Code To Delete Shapes But Not Charts

Nov 25, 2011

I have the following code:

For Each wShape In ActiveSheet.Shapes
wShape.Delete
Next wShape

This works great to delete the buttons and rectangles I have on my worksheet, but it is also deleting charts. Is there any way to avoid the chart deletion?

Delete All Shapes In A Range

May 29, 2008

I have been researching how to create a macro (that will attach to a button), that will delete ALL Shapes and Pictures in a range of cells. So far I have only met with limited results. The Range can be hard coded into the script as it will not change. Does anyone have a script written already they would care to post? I am using Excel 2003.

Delete All Shapes On Worksheet

Sep 26, 2007

I've written a macro that plots a graph directly in a white painted sheet, using lines and arrows figures.
The problem is that everytime I plot something, the xls-file gets larger, and the size doesn't change if I delete the figures. Since there's a lot of lines and arrows in my plot, I use 'Select All' and Edit-> Remove and this removes all figures, or at least for the eye. I suspect they are still left there somewhere, since the size grows with every new plot and since that sheet seems to have gotten a bit slower, when moving between cells.

Am I correct, or is there another reason for the size/ speed issue? If I my theory is correct, how do you permanently delete these "invisible" figures?

Delete Shapes On Workbook Deactivation

May 13, 2008

I have a workbook in which certain shape objects (2 command buttons and a combobox) can be present on a worksheet if another macro has been run. When a worksheet is closed and another opened, or the workbook closed, I need the shapes to be cut if they are present. There are other shapes on the sheet which must not be deleted.

Each shape has a defined name which is the worksheet name followed by DD, GetStats and Rfrsh

I have tried the code below but get 'The item with the specified name was not found' error message if the one or more of the shapes are not present. The code works for any of the specified shapes that are present.

Private Sub Workbook_SheetDeactivate(ByVal Sh As Object)

Range("f5:i17").ClearContents
If Not Sh.Shapes(Sh.Name & "DD") Is Nothing Then Sh.Shapes(Sh.Name & "DD").Cut
If Not Sh.Shapes(Sh.Name & "GetStats") Is Nothing Then Sh.Shapes(Sh.Name & "GetStats").Cut
If Not Sh.Shapes(Sh.Name & "Rfrsh") Is Nothing Then Sh.Shapes(Sh.Name & "Rfrsh").Cut

End Sub

I am sure I am not using the 'If Not' and 'Is Nothing' properly but can't figure out how it should be.

Delete Shapes But Not Active X Controls Box On Same Sheet In VB

Mar 12, 2013

I have an active x control command button on the same sheet as some shapes (lines,circles) which are generated from some parameters. I want to be able to delete the current shapes so I can plot the next shape. Below is the delete shapes part of the code, not sure how to complete the code.

Currently, the box is getting deleted as well as the shapes

Code:

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim line1_Beginx As Single, line1_beginy As Single, line1_endx As Single, line1_endy As Single
Dim line2_Beginx As Single, line2_beginy As Single, line2_endx As Single, line2_endy As Single

[Code]....

'Calculate positions of line vertices for plots

line1_Beginx = 1000
line1_beginy = 1000
line1_endx = 1000 + CD_2
line1_endy = 1000

Run Time Error 7: Out Of Memory. Selecting Shapes To Delete

May 24, 2005

i have a macro which is executing some cleaning up and then copying information from project sheets to a summary sheet. the individual project sheets are (currently still manually) copied/moved into the big(ger) overview workbook. to support the work with the individual project sheets they contain a macro that is assigned to some (three) shapes. one part of the cleanup is stripping the macros off the individual project sheets:

' remove the traffic-light macros of the project sheets from all sheets in case of unwanted or uncontrolled "infection"
For CurrentWS = 1 To SheetCount
Worksheets(CurrentWS).Select
ActiveSheet.Shapes.SelectAll
Selection.OnAction = ""
Worksheets(CurrentWS). Range("A1").Select
Next CurrentWS

on the line "ActiveSheet.Shapes.SelectAll" i get frequently (not always... ) a run time error '7': out of memory. it happens on at least two computers. i closed all other SW. according to the windows task manager information there should be plenty of memory free.

questions:
- how to get rid of the error message? OR:
- is there another (more smart) way to strip the ("imported") macros, while keeping the "main" marco alive that does not lead to an error message?

Autosize Cell Comments/Shapes Via Macro Code

Aug 25, 2006

Among many attempts to insert and autosize a comment using VBA manually, which errored, i recorded the following bit. When running the macro, it does format the cell - text, not the comment - text and errors in the line highlighted in red.

Range("A14").Select
Range("A14").AddComment
Range("A14").Comment.Visible = False
Range("A14").Comment.Text Text:="Ladida"
With Selection
.HorizontalAlignment = xlLeft
.VerticalAlignment = xlTop
.ReadingOrder = xlContext
.Orientation = xlHorizontal
.AutoSize = True
End With

I just want to add

.AutoSize = True

or something to that effect to the bit below. Any suggestions?

Order Of Executed Code - Synching Sounds With Making Shapes Visible

Jul 8, 2014

I was working on a presentation for work where I wanted to build a 'Family Feud' type board to play a game. In the board I am using activex text boxes with code that would hide the text box to reveal the answer underneath or it would show a custom shape (an X in a box) and play the buzzer sound. The code is pretty simple, first I would make the shape visible, then I would play the sound then the shape would be made invisible. If I step through the macro everything works fine, but when I run the macro, you never see the shape. It's almost as if the sound plays before the shape shows up and then it is made invisible again. I tried putting a wait and a sleep command between making the shape visible and playing the sound but that made no difference. If I remove the code to hide the shape at the end and run the macro, the sound plays and then the shape appears. Is there anyway to have the shape appear prior to or at the same time as the sound plays?

Code:
Private Sub CommandButton8_Click()
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
ActiveSheet.Shapes("First Strike").Visible = True
Play_Strike_Sound
'The previous line refers to another macro that has the code commented below. The sndPlaySound32
'function is one I picked up from cpearson.com
'sndPlaySound32 "C:\_Fin SysSoundsff-strike.wav", SND_SYNC
ActiveSheet.Shapes("First Strike").Visible = False
End Sub

So, I wanted to see if I can delete the individual chart before generating a new one.

Currently, I am using the following code to delete the charts.

Scrambled Charts After Code Executes

Jan 11, 2007

I have an excel based report consisting of several worksheets. Each worksheet contains VBA code which allows the user to generate custom reports with a series of Excel Charts being generated. I have two related problems with the output/display.
Whenever I save the file the code is triggered causing each sheet to update and scrambling charts. (To fix this I have to leave the report and then re-enter, which then works fine).

Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? For example, to avoid the code being run on save or to refresh the active screen. A couple of things I should mention: I already have screenupdating turned off so the user is not seeing each action being calculated. At present to avoid the chart display glitches with complex tasks, I have added a line to my code at the end which moves off screen and then returns to the current screen. That ensures the chart no longer lingers on screen, however it does mean that for a split second a phantom graph appears in the middle of the screen before disapearing.

VBA Macro Code To Create Multiple Charts

May 9, 2009

I need to create 63 charts from data which I have in two columns. I want to create multiple charts using one macro. For the first chart I want it to use cells K2:K80 as the x values, and M2:M80 as the y values. For the next chart I want it to use cells K81:K159 as the x values and M81:159 as the y values. For the next chart I want it to use cells K160:K238 as the x values and M160:M238 as the y values. I want to continue this, creating a chart for every 78 cells of data, all the way until the 63rd chart which uses K4900:K4978 as the x values and M4900:M4978 as the y values. I have created the following macro by " recording." This macro generates the first chart that I want:

Sub Macro5()
ActiveSheet.Shapes.AddChart.Select
ActiveChart.ChartType = xlXYScatterSmoothNoMarkers
ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries
ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = "=Sheet1!$K$2:$K$80"
ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Values = "=Sheet1!$M$2:$M$80"
ActiveChart.ChartType = xlXYScatterSmoothNoMarkers
ActiveWindow.SmallScroll Down:=-3
End Sub

How can I alter this macro to create all 63 charts?. It seems like there is an easy way to do this, but I don't use macros very much (at all).

Pasting Charts Between 2 Instances Copies Macro Code Into Hidden Workbook

Apr 13, 2008

Consider two instances of Excel - one with a workbook containing a chart and some VBA code, the other containing a blank workbook. When I paste a chart from the first instance of Excel to the other, all the VBA code from the original workbook is also pasted into a new third hidden workbook in the second instance of Excel! If that weren't weird enough ON WINDOWS XP (but not Windows 2000) if the VBA code included WorkbookOpen or AutoOpen this code is executed in the second instance of Excel, which of course fails if it references sheets that only existed in the workbook open in the first instance of Excel! This is the first time I've seen the same version of Excel do different things on different versions of Windows! Example attached - What's going on!? Auto Merged Post Until 24 Hrs Passes;...note: this does not happen when pasting charts between workbooks open in the SAME instance of Excel

Code To Delete Rows Based On Status Code In Column

Jul 24, 2009

I'm trying to write a VBA script which will delete all rows in my Excel spreadsheet where Column I (which contains a status code) does not contain the word "Completed".

At the moment, I'm doing this the other way round: my script is able to search for entries in Column I which contain the status codes "Pending", "Awaiting Authorisation", "In Progress" etc and delete them. The idea is that when all those rows are deleted, I'll only be left with rows which have a status of "Completed". This works fine at the moment. However, the concern is that if a brand new status code is added to the data file, my script would be unable to pick it up and delete it. This is a small sample of the code I'm currently using (which deletes all the rows with statuses other than Completed):

VB Code To Add And Delete Row From Sheets

Mar 27, 2014

I would like to add 2 buttons to each page. One button to add a row at the bottom of the table while keeping all of the same formatting and another button to Delete a selected row from the table. So that if there is more assignments than allowed in the current table, a row could easily be added.

I would think that the code for the class sheets would all be the same.

The other obstacle I thought about is possible making a button on the Summary page that would add another sheet, call it Class and whatever number comes next and also add it to the summary table with the same formatting (including the hyperlink that's in the Classes column where it will take you to the Class sheet that you want to drill down to).

I have attached the file. If the summary sheet is took much work it's not a big deal, I would be fine with just being able to have 2 buttons on the class sheets that allowed them to add and remove and such.

I would also like to contribute. I know a decent amount about SQL and SSRS/SSIS Reporting services.

I also need it to be able to unprotect my worksheet and then protect it back, Since I will only want them to be able to type in the areas I specify. I also moved the summary at the bottom of each class sheet to the right side at the top so its easier for them to view.
