Convert Column Letter To Number

Nov 22, 2005

I need to convert a column letter to a column number for the following line of code in my VBA application:

VB:
strAverageBaseFormula = "=AVERAGE(D" & Trim(Str(lngFirstRowOfIncrement + 1)) & ":K" & Trim(Str(lngFirstRowOfIncrement + 1)) & ")"

I am inserting a formula into a cell using VBA, but the problem is that I don't know the letter value of column "K" (used in the middle of the line); instead, I know it as column number 11. Is there a simple way to convert the column number 11 to the column letter "K"?

Method To Convert Column Number To Letter

Sep 15, 2014

I wanted to know if there was a way to either make a variable hold a column letter or else automatically convert a column number to a letter. This would be for use in the Range property.

All I could find is some complicated technique requiring division by 26 that I will never remember let alone code quickly.

Or if you have a variable holding a column number, is the only way to use it with Cells?

Auto Format Spreadsheet With Various Rows Month To Month

Feb 4, 2009

I have a database that I export to excel every month. The export process is built in the database software (ACT!2009). The export opens Excel with the standard Book1.xls file name. All the field columns will be the same every month.

Goal:
I need to format the spreadsheet to make it more readable and have been assigned the task of:
1 - Inserting a blank row between each row that contains data and filling in with color.
2 - Resizing the blank row to make it look like a "thick" border.
3 - Auto adjusting the columns to correct size.
4 - The last column contains comments and needs to be wrapped text.
5 - All of this needs to fit on 1 sheet (landscape).

Issues:
1 - Each month there will be a different number of rows.
2 - I know I can create a macro to do this but the macro that I would be creating will be in a saved template or spreadsheet. How could I use a that recorded macro in a spreadsheet that is called Book1.xls?

I have attached 2 spreadsheets. One called Book1.xls which is the raw data after exported and the 2nd spreadsheet called Formatted which is the end result that I am looking for.

Dates - Show Month Only, And Actually Be The Month Only (not Just Format The Date)

Jul 28, 2008

I have a range of dates from 2003 to 2012. I formatted them to the 'Mar-01' option, but when I want to pivot on the month, Excel still reads them as the date - example 3/25/2008, 3/28/2008...and so my pivot table has multiple columns for all of the dates present in that month.

How do I truly format my dates so that excel reads them as the month only so that I can then pivot and show 12 columns (months) per year?

Is there some way to remove the letter and correctly format the value to a negative or positive number on a whole worksheet or column?

Currently I am doing this manually one cell at a time.

Convert Cells With Percentage Format To 'same' Decimal In A Column With Mixed Format

Jun 7, 2006

I have a column of cells with values - 0.2%, 0.32%, 0.22, 0.5 etc. The cells with % symbol are in ' Percentage, 2 decimal' format while the plain numbers are in 'General' format i.e. column contains cells in either of these formats. I need a macro where I can specify the column and it will select the cells with the % format, convert it to 'General' and multiply the result by 100 eg. 0.2% converted to 'General' becomes 0.002. When multiplied by 100, result is 0.2 i.e. is displayed without the % symbol.

So, is there anyway they can type say 'R' and then getting the hours total cell to ignore it because it isn't a time?

Convert Name Of Month To A Number

Jan 15, 2013

I am trying to convert the name of a month to a number but there is a slight issue with using my normal method of TEXT("1/"&A1&"/2013","mmm")

I am trying to create a dynamic table which if you change 1 value for the month, it changes others

so my data looks like so,

Jan
Feb
Mar
Apr
May <---- this is the value which is chosen

The problem is when I select the month "January", it assigns the value of the above cell as 1/0/2013 which is not a date when in fact I want to set it as "December".
