Display Server Message To User After POST File Upload
Feb 6, 2014
I'm using VBA to upload the open workbook to app.box URL which is working great! Since I'm pretty new to VBA, I can't figure out how to get Excel to display the sucess/failed message from the server to the user. I used the VBA POST upload module from this awesome tutorial, but I can't figure out how to return the message to the user. I did figure out that on the website there is an "id="after_upload_message", not sure if that works. My code is below.

I am trying to attach a speadsheet to an inquiry about another problem. I used to be able to do this. No known changes to my system in between.
Currently get error:
"Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing."
No one here knows what to do. Is my problem local or at the website? What should I try?

I have finally come up with a macro and would like to install it to around 10 people's "Personal Workbook" in my department. Let me explain a bit further...
We use web-based software which has an "Export to Excel" option which we all use. The resulting data populates into a spreadsheet automatically.
I would like the user to be able to click on Tools/Macro/Run Macro and then run that particular macro. I assume that this macro should be in the "Personal Workbook" so that the macro will be visible no matter what worksheet they may have open?
Can this be done automatically/with a macro or must this be manually done?
I"m using Excel 2003.

I have bit of code that:
(1) opens another spreadsheet
(2) updates that spreadsheet
(3) saves that spreadsheet
(4) closes that spreadsheet
If the spreadsheet that requires updating is open by another user, I display a message indicating the file is open and no updates occured. There are about 20 persons within the organization that may have this file open? Is there away to display the username of the person who has the file open?.

I've come across an excel spreadsheet that has a pivot table which displays data from a sql server connection query. This worked fine before but recently the database it connects to was moved.
The connection string was updated to reflect this.
The main difference in the connection apart from a new server name, is that where before we were using a Trusted Connection, now we're using a SQL login.
Now only some of the data is shown.
The query still works - if I go into Edit Query (Data>Connections>Properties) the query runs fine. It just doesn't display properly anymore
I think this is something to do with the pivot table rather than any connection properties.

I need to save the data of For Eg. A form in Sheet 1, B form in Sheet 2, C form data entry in sheet 3.
what is happening now is that, all the entries are going in the Active Sheet that is open in the excel file. I want to automate the process of data entry, by making it enter data from specific form in specific sheet.
1st form
Code:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
eRow = Sheet1.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0).Row
Cells(eRow, 1) = ComboBox1.Text
Cells(eRow, 2) = TextBox12.Text
Cells(eRow, 3) = TextBox2.Text
Cells(eRow, 4) = TextBox3.Text
Cells(eRow, 5) = TextBox4.Text
Unload Me
ThisWorkbook.Save
End With
End Sub
2nd form
Code:
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
eRow = Sheet2.Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Offset(1, 0).Row
Cells(eRow, 1) = ComboBox1.Text
Cells(eRow, 2) = TextBox14.Text
Cells(eRow, 3) = TextBox2.Text
Cells(eRow, 4) = TextBox3.Text
Cells(eRow, 5) = TextBox4.Text
Unload Me
ThisWorkbook.Save
End Sub

I have produced a basic search/lookup facility on an Excel workbook that simply allows the user to enter a post code and some details will be returned using a vlookup. The document is going to be rolled out to a number of operational users so I want to basically 'lock down' everything I can in the document (basically everything except the data entry cell) and make it fool proof- I have locked all cells apart from the data entry cell and have made the file read only.
The only issue I am encountering is when the cursor is in the one 'unlocked' cell (i.e. the one the users will enter the post code into); it appears that you can break the document. For example, when the cursor is in the 'unlocked' cell, I am able to go to Tools > Options and change various settings including cosmetic colour changes but also cell calculation which breaks the lookup functionality. This is probably enabled as the cell is unlocked, but if I lock the cell, when I protect the document, it disables data entry!
if there is another way of providing this one cell for users to input data into for the vlookup to work whilst locking down the rest of the document to ensure that no-one can break it?

I try to run a macro on my workbook everytime I open it by getting the data from the ftp file. This will be the service number for my customer. Both the excel and the data file are located in the ftp, so that I can retrieve the file wherever I go. Basically I got some code from the internet which work fine on the local network, but once it come to ftp server I am stuck there.

Const sDEFAULT_PATH As String = "Ftp://mycompany.com"
Const sDEFAULT_FNAME As String = "Service.txt"
Dim nFileNumber As Long
nFileNumber = FreeFile
If sFileName = "" Then sFileName = sDEFAULT_FNAME
If InStr(sFileName, Application.PathSeparator) = 0 Then _
sFileName = sDEFAULT_PATH & Application.PathSeparator & sFileName
If nSeqNumber = -1& Then
If Dir(sFileName) <> "" Then
Open sFileName For Input As nFileNumber
Input #nFileNumber, nSeqNumber..................

How to pull data with a VLOOKUP to a file located on a Server.
My big problem is not understanding the syntax of the Server location. I've provided it below (obviously with some character changes).
I have a file located on my Hard Drive. I need to perform a VLOOKUP from A2 on this spreadsheet. The File on the Server is called "LookupTest.xls". The Range of Data is from Sheet 1 and is from A2:C4 and I need to pull the data from column C depending on what is selected from A2 from the file on my HD. I understand how to use VLOOKUP, just not when I'm pointing to another file on a Server.
Server mapping from Windows Explorer:
rbbabc$ on 'RP17409 - ABC Database (AHSSRVVN678.tge.com)'
Again, that server mapping is fake, as I changed it, but this is how it looks on Windows Explorer.
I'm trying to keep a master file of Data on a spreadsheet found on a server so that one master file can be updated, and several other tools pull from that Master File on VLOOKUP, Validation Lists, etc.

Any code that will grab the names of all files from all directories on an FTP server? I have the path & credentials to get to them, but I need a process to drop their names into a spreadsheet to compare against a list of files loaded onto a SQL database.
The directory structure on the server is subject to change, as are the number of files in each repository.

I am looking to automate our daily sales report.
I am aware of the windows task scheduler.
However, I'd like for this report to run and be sent out very early in the morning (5AM) before I'm even at work.
My computer is usually off because it's with me as I'm commuting into the office.
These files are saved out on our network drive.
Is there a way I can "open" the file and run the macro I have that builds my sales reports with my computer being off?

Here is the
At home in my home computer this code worked when C: was selected.
ChDir ("c:")
Title = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(Name, "Excel files (*.xls), *.xls")
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Name
Save the file in specific place
But when I substituted C: path with my server path it doesnt work! Have a look. Its the exact same code except my path is different.
ChDir ("\Lnf001Lnf1vol1SharedOP_ENGWork Order")
Title = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(Name, "Excel files (*.xls), *.xls")
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Name

'change constants & FilePath below to suit

Const FileName$ = "Dxo.xlsx"
Const SheetName$ = "Open"

The spreadsheet is on a shared drive which has the prefix "K". Most users it works find but one user gets a error Message "Path or Drive" error. I got around it by adding "on error" but how do you overcome issues with drive prefixs and the drive address e.g "K" vs "\CRD2000"
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Open ThisWorkbook.Path & "usage.log" For Append As #1
Print #1, Application.UserName, Now
Close #1

Data is entered monthly by the team. I don't know how to begin with this. I've managed to inform them when they've already entered that months information, but I don't know where to begin with this.
