Excel 2010 :: Catching User Delete Row / Column Event Possible?
Nov 15, 2012
If possible, I'd like to be able to catch & handle the event of a User deleting a row (or potentially a column) from a specific Worksheet so I can then implement some automated "housekeeping processing" on other existing rows / columns.
I'm using XL 2010 so from what I've found so far it looks like I should possibly be using the Worksheet_Change() function, but beyond that I'm currently stuck.

i am trying to project future date by adding certain number of days, the problem is that i m trying to catch starting date(C2) based on user defined(B2) date criteria is
a. if B2 is normal working day then C2 is the next day i.e. B2 + 1 for example if user enters 1 jan 14(B2) then C2 should be 2 Jan 14.
b. if B2 is saturday then C2 should be monday i.e. C2 + 2 eg B2 = 4 jan 14 then C2 = 6 jan 14.
now the main problem part
c. if B2 is saturday and monday is holiday then C2 should be date corresponding to Tuesday or if tuesday is also a holiday then C2 should be Wednesday and like wise..
d. same for last day of leave is to be calculated similarly to starting date..
I tried lots of IF combinations but it's not working...

I'm using Excel 2010). I have column I, which is the sum of columns A and B (first and last names of patrons), and I have used conditional formatting to identify all duplicates in column I with red text. I would now like a macro to find red text in column I and then delete the corresponding rows.
I've been looking around on the web for a while and have cobbled together this code stolen from other people's macros:
[Code] ....
When I run it, I get the following error:
Run-time error '1004':Application-defined or object-defined error
Excel doc is called "stupid mailing list.xlsm", sheet I want to run the macro on is called "voters".

Why my code is not working. I am working with Excel 2010. It will only delete the column on the active spreadsheet and not go to next worksheet. Not all worksheets contain the word "Broker".
[Code] ......
Not sure if its something to do with Activecell, try After:=ws.cells(1,1) or passing it in as the active cell stays the same i think.

Using Excel 2010. I have a ComboBox (Not ActiveX) on a worksheet
I'm trying to add an event so that when user click on a choice a macro is fired using the selected item as citeria for a filter When I click on the drop down and make a selection I receive this error msg:
Cannot find the macro "cboUserSelection_Change" The macro may not be available in this workbook or all macros may be disabled
I also tried _AfterUpdate - similar error message.
I added the Combo Box code to the Worksheet code, not a standard module
I was able to run a quick test macro so I do not believe "all macros are disabled"

I have three worksheets Sheet 1, Sheet 2 and Sheet 3 with three Pivot Tables
Sheet1 - Sheet1Pvt1
Sheet2 - Sheet2Pvt2
Sheet3 - Sheet3Pvt3
When I use In Sheet 2 the following lines of code
Private Sub Worksheet_PivotTableChangeSync(ByVal Target As PivotTable)
Application.EnableEvents = False
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
MsgBox "The pvt table refreshed " & Target.Name
Application.EnableEvents = True
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub
and even If I Refresh Sheet 3 pivot table, Sheet 2 Event is triggered and it prints "The pvt table refreshed Sheet2Pvt2";
How to restrict the event code only to Sheet 2 and pvttbl Sheet2Pvt2.

Excel 2007/2010.
Hope this is fairly easy to solve. I have Screen #1 with a listbox with a CLICK event. The event populates a combobox below (with items based on listbox's selection). Listbox is NOT multi-select. Code runs fine manually, i.e., user opens screen selects from listbox, then can select from combobox.
I now what to open and make selections from another form/screen, Screen #2. I've written code to select the proper item from Screen #2's listbox but this does NOT trigger the listbox's CLICK event for me so the combobox isn't populated so I can then make that selection from Screen #1, also. I've tried setting focus to listbox first, then making selection, but that doesn't work.
QUESTION: Is there code that selects from a listbox in a way that mimics the user clicking the selected item in the listbox?
The alternatives I can think of are:
1) Change Screen #2's listbox code from CLICK to CHANGE event, but I'd rather not.
2) Move CLICK event code to sub-procedure and then call from both listbox CLICK and Screen #2 code
3) Some sendkey string like ENTER?
Would be easier to just mimic the user click, if possible.
With frm_Screen2
'Select item type from listbox
With .LBox_Items
[Code].....

I am trying to set public variables from an event handling procedure based in a worksheet so I can use that variable in a userform. Nothing I have tried works no matter where I declare the variable. I am using a msgbox to display the variable (a range) but it shows as blank regardless of whether I place the variable in a module, this workbook object or in the sheet object where the event code is placed.
I am sure there is a simple way to transfer variables from the sheet's code (where it must remain as the variable depends on the target cell's position that triggers the event).

As part of a program I'm writing in VBA (for Excel 2010), I have a textbox in a user form used as an interface to write a formula in cells in Excel. The resulting value of a formula from a cell is loaded up into the textbox. It would be shown in the textbox like "See 1.2 and 1.3" where the formula in the cell is
[Code].....
This is just used as an example but the principle is there. It is worth noting that I’m writing this for very inexperienced Excel users but I need them to be able to edit the string part of the formula without breaking the formula.
However where I’m struggling is to pick up a selection change event inside a text box already selected. I need to be able to check if the textbox.SelStart is within an address value or within the string in the textbox.
The event Enter won’t work if the user is already editing the textbox (i.e. typing stuff) and then clicking or using the keyboard arrow to move the cursor somewhere else inside the textbox. I don’t think the event Change is the solution either as it would mean that the user would have already typed something and as a result the formula may already be broken.
I have had a good look around and I didn’t find an event for a selection change inside a textbox. Does it exists and/or is there a way that would have the same result?

I'm having some trouble getting control ENTER & EXIT events to fire properly when having controls embedded on frames within a userform. I'm using Excel 2003, 2007, & 2010. Here's the userforms I'm working with:
With FRAME:
Without FRAME:
In both cases, the DESCRIPTION field is disabled. The selectable controls on both are a combo-box, textbox, listbox, & 2 buttons. On the FRAMED version, the combo-box & textbox are contained on a FRAME.
Here's the code, same on both userforms:
Code:
Option Explicit
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Enter()
ListBox1.AddItem "ENTER - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub
Private Sub cmbRecipes_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)
ListBox1.AddItem "EXIT - " & cmbRecipes.Value
End Sub
All this is doing is posting a message to the listbox when the combo-box ENTER & EXIT events fire. This works as expected without the FRAME, ENTER is shown when the combo-box is entered and EXIT is shown as focus is moved to another control. But when running it on the FRAMED version all I get is a single ENTER event recorded regardless of how I move the focus through the control set.
Another oddity is that if I have more than 1 control that can receive focus on the FRAMED version, it appears to work correctly.

We have a spreadsheet on a server location with macros. Different users will access the spreadsheet from one pc on different shifts. Is there a way to set the area as a Trust Location for all users on the PC or enable the macros in the spreadsheet to execute for all users without having to set up the spreadsheet trust location or macros for each user? I would like to have the spreadsheet accessable to any user on the PC without setting up individual access. The users can change for shift to shift.

Using Excel 2010.
The background to this question is that I'm trying to replicate conditional formatting using a user VBA function, because I require a thick border around the cells (and the conditional formatting within Excel only has thin borders)
In the final function, there will be 9 combinations of formatting {Red, Amber, Green} interior with {Red, Amber, Green} thick borders.
The formatting is determined by a number in another cell (the "target" cell), which returns a value 0,...,8
I've only got as far as filling in the interior for the first combination, but the function returns an error "Application-defined or object-defined error".
VB:
Function VBA000_003_SetRAG(strTargetRange As String) 'strTargetRange is the reference for the target cell that contains the value 0,...,8
On Error Goto handler [code]....
There is not a problem with the target range, if I remove the two lines relating to rngCaller then the function works OKExecuting the rngCaller.Interior.Color = RGB(255, 0, 0) command through the Immediates window works OKI've tried calling a subroutine & passing the range across
Same errorChanging the range in the subroutine to an absolute range (eg. Sheet1.range("A1")) also causes the
same errorExecuting the subroutine on its own (with the absolute range) works OK
So my guess is that it's a bug/limitation with Excel VBA when trying to execute commands from inside a user function

I'm using Excel 2010, and I need to restrict the value the user can enter into a cell (E9).
In cell E3 is the screen width (pixels). eg 6024
In cell E5 is the preferred width of a window. eg 450
The user, in cell E9, enters an x coordinate for which they prefer the top left corner of the window whose width is specified in E5.
If the value that the user enters in E9, added to the width entered in E5, exceeds the value of E3, (if E9+E5 > E3) then the value should be disregarded (window will be off right of screen) and the user re-enter.
I'm not familiar with the use of data validation, so I'm uncertain as to how to use it in this circumstance.

Workbook contains a number of named ranges where the name is no longer used. I wish to remove the name assigned but not the actual range of referenced cells. When using Name Manager to try and delete the name the Delete button is greyed out and not available. Workbook is being heavily modified from its original form used by another. Is this possibly from a protected area from prior user? However, I have not had a problem creating new worksheets, cell ranges, etc. Also, even for new ranges I create I am not able to delete the name as the Delete button is greyed. What is going on and how can I delete just the unused range names? Version is Excel 2010.

I have some code that worked perfectly in Excel 2007 but crashes Excel 2010.
The part of the code that appears to be the problem is this:
Code:
For i = LR To 2 Step -1
If Cells(i, 15) = "Delete" Then Rows(i & ":" & i).EntireRow.Delete
Next i
For info., both screen updating and calculation are already both set to manual.

When i do try to delete it, nothing comes happens and when i try to delete a large amount it comes up with 'not enough memory, continue without undo deleting rows' but my laptop has 8GB and my other laptop has 16GB so i can't see why a 16GB laptop wouldn't be able to delete it.

I have a not too big catalog in Excel format (2010). Each row has a picture. Now, I need to generate sales report. Some items do not sell. For report purpose, I want to delete those rows along with the pictures. Possible to do so? I did an Internet search and found that drawing objects are not bonded to a row or a cell. Seems to me I cannot selectively delete picture in a particular row. True?

For a weekly import into Excel, I need to delete the last row each time. I'm using Excel 2010. My first thought is to start with the first cell, A1, and use .End(xlDown) to find the last row. Do I have to assign a variable to hold the row value then delete it? Or can it all be done in one statement without a variable?

I'm using excel 2010. I'm working with columns of values where most of the values are numbers - which is fine, and there are some numbers that have a "p" at the start of them.
e.g. Column has 49, 52.2, p56.7, 34
OK, I want to preserve the 56.7 but I want to delete the "p". I'm thinking I've got a mental block as to how to delete the unwanted "p"s but I can't think of how to do it at the moment! My code goes as follows:
If Left(Cells(1,1),1) = "p" then
'delete the "p" and leave the remaining number in tact
End if

I have a massive spreadsheet (ca.110 000 rows [excel 2010). I need to cut this monster by deleting all the cells that do not have a certain cell value within them.
Say that in my column A there are different entries (text type). I would like to delete the ones that do not match the following criteria:
"mytextascriteria*", where * somehow stands for the rest of the string.
Strictly speaking I can only determine beggining of the string I want to perserve but the values at the end of that string are changing.
I found the thread about deleting entire row based on a cell value here:
Delete entire row based on one cell?
but I couldn't quite work out how to apply it in my scenario....
Otherwise is completely pointless to do it manualy with these amout of records.

I'm new to VBA and macros, using Excel 2010, and am trying to figure out how to delete all duplicate rows in a sheet where 2 or less of their values in column A is "1". I'd like have a script that is flexible enough to change to 3 or less if need be. I also have a header row that needs to be offset in the process.
A---B-
0--123 <-delete
0--123 <-delete
0--123 <-delete
1--123 <-delete based on this the value of column A
0--123 <-delete
0--123 <-delete
1--321

1--321
or
A---B-
0--123 <-delete
0--123 <-delete
1--123 <-delete
1--123 <-delete based on this the value of column A
0--123 <-delete

Just recently My Excel 2010 has decided to not let me right click to format cells, delete or insert rows. I can do these functions from the ribbon, but not via right click. this happens in both existing spreadsheets where I am the author, or even a brand new spreadsheet like in the image below. we have restarted the computer, Uninstall and reinstalled Office and still get same symptoms. I got here thru google but cannot find an answer anywhere.
I am very computer literate and even our IT personnel have looked at this with no answer. as you can see in the image, these options are greyed out.
