Sum Formula That Works In 2003 But Not 2007
Jun 9, 2009
I have this formula :
=SUM(F25:M25*$F$6:$M$6)
It works great in xl2003, and it works properly in XL2007 until you try and change it. I changed the column F to Column D and now it gives me a #value.
How can I re-work this for xl2007?

The below code works fine in excel 2003 but when I run it in excel 2007 it crashes excel.
(Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to shut down etc etc)
Private Sub CommandButton2_Click()
With Sheets("Sheet1")
.Range("A1").Value = ComboBox2.Text
.Range("C2").Value = ComboBox2.Text
.Range("C4").Value = TextBox5.Text
.Range("D1").Value = TextBox5.Text
.Range("C5").Value = TextBox7.Text
.Range("C6").Value = TextBox9.Text
.Range("C7").Value = TextBox13.Text
.Range("C8").Value = TextBox11.Text
.PageSetup.RightFooter = "&""Arial,Italic""&9" & ComboBox1.Text
End With
With Sheets("Sheet2")
.Range("G1").Value = ComboBox1.Text
End With
Unload Me
End Sub
I have tried all kind of changes that I thought might make a difference,
like changing .Text to .Value and vv,

I convert text file into Excel. Then what I want is to look in column C for cell value “UNT:” (it is chopped word account: ) and copy value what is in the same row next column D into column K.
Then in column K copy down the value until next not empty cell.
My problem is that it works on Excel 97 and 200 but 2003 doesn’t work.

This script works great in 2003 in formatting text brought from Access, but fails in 97 - unfortunately I don't have direct access to Excel 97 - can anyone with it (or with a compendious knowledge of the differences!)

I often need to use Paste Special . .. Values, using Excel 2003. So I recorded a Macro into "Personal.xls" and assigned a shortcut key combination "CTRL-Shift-V" so that it would always be available. I first select one or more cells and hit CTRL-C to copy to clipboard, click on another cell, then hit CTRL-Shift-V to run the following macro:
VB : Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
It often works . . . and it often fails. When it is working it seems to keep working over and over. When it is failing it keeps failing. So it is almost as if there are two "modes" of operation, which for lack of terms, for this post I will coin the terms "fail mode" and "fixed mode". Once I am in one of the two modes, it stays there for a while. When it is in the "fail mode", I always get the dreaded:
Run-time error 1004: "Pastespecial method of Range class failed".
Since this problem is very intermittent, I believe this is why there are so many posts in the Internet about this, and so many people are replying back "it works fine for me". I have seen many solutions offered but none work so far for just a simple shortcut key to do a PasteSpecial :Values. Some solutions "work" . . . such as adding the PasteSpecial button to the Toolbar, or pressing ALT-E-S-V <Enter> - but both of these bring up the Paste Special dialog box which I want to avoid.
I spent days trying the many solutions offered but so far all I have found is a trick to convert Excel from "fail mode" to "fixed mode". The trick is to add a line to the macro to first do a "Paste Special: Format:
VB:
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteFormats, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Then select and copy any cell/s, click on another cell, and run the macro just ONCE - it will paste the formatted value successfully and you are now in the "fixed mode". Now you can remove the PasteSpecial:Format line that you just added, to get back to the original macro with just the "Paste Special: Values" line:
VB : Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Now Excel is in the "fixed mode" and the original macro will once again start working properly. BUT only for a while !! Then some time later, usually within a day or a couple hours . . . Excel goes back into that "mode" where once again the macro fails repeatedly. I have been unable to isolate what causes the mode to return to failure.
Any simple way to either change the code so that it ALWAYS is successful, why this often is not successful ? I believe that the fact that adding in the Paste Special : Format code and running it just once to fix the problem, also could be a clue as to what causes this problem to "sometimes" occur.

I have an annual leave (vacation) work book with a summary page work sheet and separate work sheets for each month i.e. Jan, Feb, Mar.....to......Dec. In order to protect the formulas I have protected them by allowing only access to the input cells on each work sheet and the protect each work sheet.
When someone either joins or leaves the team I have to manually unprotect each sheet and protect again when I have completed the amendments to each of the 13 tabs.
macro code I would need to unprotect all the works sheets in one go (as I use the same password for all the sheets) and reset the passwords (protect) the sheets with more macro code.
I will be running the two macros from my own personal.xls file and ideally they would be fully automatic i.e. I would not need to input the passwords in to unlock or lock the work sheets as the password would be written in the code already

I've created a workbook with code to email it to a reviewer then back to the originator when reviewed (along with other editing functions etc.). The problem - The originator is working in Excel 2003, the reviewer in 2007. The macros work great until the reviewer sends it back. I have not been able to figure out which FileFormat:= ???? to use when I SaveAs prior to emailing as an attachment. My Excel 2003 doesn't recognize the .xlsm file and other formats are eliminated the vba/macro coding

In Excel 2007 I am creating a macro with the "relative references" setting turned on. I want to repeat some tasks like: go to column A, sort, hide columns B thru F, hide columns H & I, return to column A.
Every time I try to create this macro by capturing key strokes, it inserts the workbook / worksheet name in the macro! Kinda defeats the ability to use it in any other workbook.
I am recording the macro in the PERSONAL.XLSX workbook. I have other macros that successfully perform in any workbook they are used in . . . but today I can't create one that doesn't incorporate the name of the original sheet it was recorded in.

I'm working on a tracking spreadsheet that needs to be able to function on both Excel 2004 for Mac as well as Excel 2007 for PC. The code below is written to ask for a date when the status of a particular row of cells is changed to a value other than "". These cells have validation lists where the list itself is just below the cell in hidden rows. It then places the date entered in the corresponding cell to the right of the list choice in the hidden rows and the top row is simply a vlookup to show the date with the status choice.
This way, when the status cell is changed again, it retains the date in the hidden rows while setting a different one. The code below is obviously not the full code, the whole code includes other functions and is a bit long, but I've narrowed it down to this:

In an effort to manipulate the xml documents within an xls, you used to be able to change the extension to .zip then open. This no longer works for me, just getting the 'cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive.
I have tried it with a number of different files, but no joy.
It still works with a .doc so I guess it's not that Microsoft have stopped this capability?

I want to do a vlookup between two tabs on a date in cell A1 eg 01-Apr-08
The lookup needs to be on month and year so I'm using
=Month(A1) which gives an answer 4 in cell A2
=Year(A1) which gives an answer 2008 in cell B2
I then oncatenate the results (=A2&B2) to get a unique reference 12008 - works ok
On the second tab, I've repeated the formula, I get an answer of 1 and 2008 but when I concatenate, I get a #VALUE!
I've tried
"text to columns"
unchecked Protect on the cells
worksheet is not protected
on the 1 and 2008 and concatenated result

I have some schedules set up with multiple formulas and macros (originally setup in 2003) however when attempting to make this a 2007 file when I go to copy a sheet to create another schedule I get the message “A formula or sheet you want to move or copy contains the name “xx”, which already exists on the destination worksheet. Do you want to use this version of the name? To use the name as defined in the destination sheet, click yes. To rename the range referred to in the formula or worksheet, click no, and enter a new name in the Name Conflict dialog box.”

I've been putting together an automated spreadsheet that has external data sources to SQL. I have been having some strange problems with it between versions of Excel. Unfortunately, the company's standard is 2003 but quite a lot of the company use 2007. I have been developing this report on 2007, the server that runs the automated version of the spreadsheet runs 2003 (and cannot be upgraded beyond 2003 as it is running Server 2000!).
The template opens fine on my 2007 machine and all development work has been run on my machine including the downloading of data. The VBA script runs something like
refresh datasources ........

My company used to have Excel 2003. I had a PivotTable in a worksheet that accessed data in another, completely different worksheet. When we converted to Excel 2007, I saved many of my Excel files from .xls to .xlsm. My PivotTable that once accessed data from another .xls file is still trying to access that same .xls file. What I want, though, is for it to access the new .xlsm file.

I have a spreadsheet that collates a list of data from week order and puts them in a graph. I have a macro created that basically does the graph, it works fine in 2003 but not in office 2007. I get an error "Run Time Error '1004' Application-defined or object-defined error, then when I click the debug button it highlights "ActiveSheet.ChartObjects.Delete". I'm not sure if when its trying to create a new graph its attempting to delete the old one and isnt deleting it? The full code for the macro is below:

Sheets("OTIF Chart").Delete

I am trying to conditionally format using AND() to reference if there is a value in the top line of a table and the title in the right most column for each cell in the table, the formula I am using works when i paste it into cells (i get the correct TRUE or FALSE for each cell in the sheet) but is not working as a format formula, I dont get an error but the shading does not happen.
The formula:
=AND(OFFSET($A$1,0,(COLUMN()-1),1,1)"",INDIRECT("a"&ROW())="Item1")

The formula I'm using is
Code:
=SUBSTITUTE(OFFSET(A10,-2,0),VLOOKUP(OFFSET(A10,-1,0),prim!$D$1:$I$263,5),VLOOKUP(OFFSET(A10,-1,0),prim!$D$1:$I$263,6))
But it doesn't work at all on one worksheet, half works on another, and works sometimes on another.
In the worksheet attached called workbook 4, it works a15 sheet 2, but not a10 sheet 2. But that was not always the case. In the worksheet attached justification copy, it works in a14 sheet 4 but not in a10 but for a good while it didn't work in both. In my own private doc it doesn't work in both cases.

I'm struggling constantly with the Excel 2007 I use, and the Excel 2003 that another group uses.
I'm dealing with large files; 200000 to 300000 rows often.
I wish there was a setting or way to automatically force excel 2007 to create a file in 2003 format.....meaning I want 260000 rows to automatically be divided up into 4 sheets limited to 65K each. 260001 rows would be put into 5 sheets, so that I could save it as an excel 2003 file.
Is there also a way to do this from access 2007 exported to excel?(I know that's an access question and probably outside the bounds of this board).

Is is possible to write code that is compatible on both versions.. ie
If Application.Version > 11 Then
' excel 2007 code
Else
' excel 2003 code
End If
I have developed a reporting spread for a client which contains automated chart generation, all done with VBA. I have read numerous threads of issues when upgrading.
What they want is the chart VBA to be upgraded so that it can be run on both versions.
Is this possible, or will it fail at run time?
