I have a worksheet (Sheet1) that is constantly growing with information. I have several categories under the "Category" column and then the various amounts under "Amount" column. I would like to have Sheet2 be able to keep a running total of the "Amount" column for each category as it increases in entries. I've attached an example sheet.
I setup a table with a column titled "Type". Each value under column "Type" defines the type of row it is: "Section", "SubSection", "SubSubSection"
I wish to create a set of conditional formatting rules that apply to data rows in this table, each rule controlling how cells within a whole row should be formatted, according to the value found in "Type", for that row.
Rule1: [@Type]="Section" -> fat red line on top of cell. Rule2: [@Type]="SubSection" -> thin black line on top of cell. Rule3: [@Type]="SubSubSection" -> dashed black line on top of cell.
I can't seem to make this work.
How can I leverage the nice column names, and the "@"-this row designator, within a table to create conditional formatting rules that apply to all the cells within a row, in the same way one can refer to in table formulas?
I have a large amount of data that is from an events file. When I enter it into excel, it almost maxes out the row count (excel 2010) The data basically lists Event, Date/Timestamp, Call ID, and a few other details. Im trying to get a total of specific events and if they were successful or not, so the other columns arent of concern. For instance, there is an event called searchbyphone, a later row in the data will include searchresult found or notfound. The only way to pair these up is by the ID number which is unique per call.
So in the example below, ID 123-45-789a was a search by phone and successful (found). The Date/Time field is down to milisecond. If this were just adding up all the various events and then totalling the searchresult found/notfound, it would be simpler. However, Im only interested in certain events and found/notfound is used for many other events.
Using the data below, what is the best way to pull out an event (say the total number of searchby phone) and then know how many of those were found and not found (when the information needed is on 2 seperate rows and only the ID would be the same?)
To through a wrench into it, there can be several events with the same ID becasue the ID is unique to a call - a caller can search by a few variables. There will be the same amount of found/notfounds though with that ID. (meaning as a caller, I can do a few searches and all of these will be in the event file with the same ID) In this case, the number of requests (events) will match the number of results (found/not found).
What Im trying to accomplish is to get a total of searchbyphone found and not found, So in this example I would have searchbyphone found = 1 and searchbyphone notfound = 0.
ID Event Date/Timestamp
123-45-789a searchbyphone 10/7/2013 12:52:38
987-65-432b searchbycity 10/7/2013 12:52:39
123-45-789a searchresult.found 10/7/2013 12:52:41
874-35-123c searchbyzip 10/7/2013 12:52:42
987-65-432b searchresult.not found 10/7/2013 12:52:47
I am trying to add columns to my Excel 2010 Pivot Table to calculate % change of sales from year to year. The field name is "Year", while the item columns in the field are 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. How do I add a column between the years that will calculate the % change os sales up or down from the previous year?
I know how to separate data into different columns i.e. Marry Johnson into two separate columns; however, I have data in different rows that I need separated into different column. See screen cast [URL]
I'm back working on my estimate sheet again and hit another roadblock. I have a series of rows all separated by multiple spaces and would like to copy every one to the first empty column on a separate page sequentially until a certain condition is met (first time row starts with zero in column U, in this pic second row down would end routine).
The first column here is U on sheet "Partitions & Woodwork" so since this first row doesn't start with a zero, U10 - BC10 would need to be copied and pasted transposed into the first open column on sheet "Rebirth" (2nd pic below).
U V W X Y Z
It would be pasted transposed here from B2 downwards on sheet named "Rebirth". The next row that didn't start with zero would be pasted transposed starting at c2 and so on until the first time a row beginning at column U on sheet "Partitions & Woodwork" began with a zero (0).
The number of spaces between rows being copied varies on the partitions & woodwork sheet but the columns (U - BC) are a constant every time a row needs to be copied.
calculate the number of full rows in one data base located on one sheet X to determine how many rows the macro needs to extend on sheet B (sheet B is made only of formulas for data interpretation in sheet A.
I am looking for some to create a simple macro to sort multiple rows in ascending order based on the values in a particular column in the selected range. I want to sort A4:AI1004 in ascending order by column D. I recorded the following macro in Excel 2010:
Sub sort() ' ' sort Macro ' sort by column D (Sequence #) ' ' Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlToRight)).Select Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlToRight)).Select Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlToRight)).Select Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlToRight)).Select
First of all, I think this code can probably be simplified. Secondly, it does not work in older versions of Excel. In 2007 it always ends in a runtime error. How can I clean this up so that it will work in both versions of Excel?
I'm trying to delete a range of rows based on the value of a given cell. For example, if cell AC1 shows 5000, then I'd like to delete (not just clear) the range A5000:AA1048576. Or, if cell AC1 shows 10000, then I'd like to delete range A10000:AA1048576. I've come up with what is below but I don't think this is the right way to do it. I am using Excel 2010.
How to make EXCEL 2007 Automatically convert all my CURRENCY symbols in all cells formatted for CURRENCY in THE SAME SHEET to the one and ONLY currency selected in JUST ONE cell ? (i mean, after conversion, all of them are Not just display currency symbols, but Calculable monetary values like regular Excel's built-in currency format)
I am a dummy in VBA so I really am not familiar at all if the solution is really one of VBA. I don't even know how to start programming VBA at all in Excel.
I have a fairly large database in excel 2010 that in being updated everyday by a employee. In column A there are a set of dates all in the same format 9/1/2011 what i would like to happen is that if there are any dates in column A then it cut out the row and paste it into Sheet1 (the data is stored in sheet2).
I'm new to VBA and macros, using Excel 2010, and am trying to figure out how to delete all duplicate rows in a sheet where 2 or less of their values in column A is "1". I'd like have a script that is flexible enough to change to 3 or less if need be. I also have a header row that needs to be offset in the process.
A---B- 0--123 <-delete 0--123 <-delete 0--123 <-delete 1--123 <-delete based on this the value of column A 0--123 <-delete 0--123 <-delete 1--321 1--321 1--321 1--321 1--321
A---B- 0--123 <-delete 0--123 <-delete 1--123 <-delete 1--123 <-delete based on this the value of column A 0--123 <-delete 0--123 <-delete 1--321 1--321 1--321 1--321 1--321
I am new to VBA programming so i might be making a obvious mistake. I am trying to create a macro that will insert rows depending on a cell value. I also need this to be executed from a command button rather then to occur immediately after the cell value is entered. So as a example
Lets say Cell A2 has a value 20 Cell A3 has a value 3 Cell A4 has a value 5
when this data is entered and then a Command button poressed there should be
Basically; there are three main columns in the first worksheet (lets call it "Main Data"): OrderNumber, TaskName, SignOffDate with data listed as follows. The actual spreadsheet has hundreds of order numbers but i'll keep it simple and lets go with two.
OrderNumber TaskName SignOffDate
1 OED 01/05/2012
What I am trying to do; is sort this data in a second worksheet (lets lable it "Output") so that the sign off dates for each task; for each order; are listed within 1 single row. Ie:
OrderNumber OED CTN FAD6 RFS
1 01/05/2012 17/05/2012 22/05/2012 02/06/2012
2 03/05/2012 19/05/2012 27/05/2012 02/06/2012
There are many orders in the main data; and I'm not sure what to do exactly to return the sign off dates for each task for each order without creating separate worksheets for each task name; then using vlookups to find each date.
An order may have a sign off for all task names, or none at all. In addition to this; they may not always be in the same order as listed above.
When I select the cell formula extension button thing and drag it to the right, the formula copies exactly into the next cell. If I select multiple cells starting from 19-23 and then drag, excel just repeats the formula over, (19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 19, 20...) This is seriously frustrating as I have to click into the formula bar on each cell and change the value of the column lookup.
I can't keep going manually as I need to go to about 300 cells...
I'm using excel 2010 and windows XP with a moderate amount of experience tinkering with macro programming. I know what I need is very doable but I can't get my head around what the code would look like. I must not be wording my searches correctly because most of what I'm getting for results are iterative programs based on a cells value which isn't what I need.
I'm trying to build a macro that will check a cell (C3) and based on the contents of that cell copy a column (I) to one of 12 different columns (K:V). So if the value in C3 is 1 it should copy I to K, if the value is 2 it should copy I to L, and so on.
I work on an excel spreadsheet all day and I'm constantly cuting and pasting a value to filter another column. I would love to have a macro button that would automatically do this.
The job card sheets are labled 'Page 1' through to 'Page 175'. As I am working on each job card sheet I need to filter column on another sheet within the same workbook. This is indicated on the attached picture.
So in a perfect world as I would enter in the PLANT ID number on to any job card, then hit a macro button on the toolbar and the Pole No column would then be filtered by the value in the PLANT ID cell.
As there are multiple job cards the macro would probably need to use the 'active cell' value to filter by. But as you can probably tell I'm no expert so you judge the best way to do it.

What is the VBA code for inserting text in all column B-cells of multiple selected rows?
I am creating a worksheet with a table containing various data related to orders of various materials (this is more or less data gathering from an older, paper-based 'system'). This table spans, columnwise, from A to D and expands downwards as more orders are added. The information in each column is: A=order number, B=type of material and C=material specs. and D=additional comments.
I've set it up so that the only thing I really have to do is to insert the type of material in the cells of column B, and the rest will sort itself out. Instead of having to insert a new row for each new entry and manually typing in the name of the material (these entries are often done in the midst of already existing data), I created several similar, macroed buttons for the different types of materials we use. These macros work by selecting the row of the currently active cell, inserting a new row and then add the name of the material in the column B-cell of this new row. What I am having trouble doing though, is to get the text-entry to work for a selection of multiple cells.
As an example, lets say that I would like to add 5 orders of "Grade A Steel" in the middle of the table - in the row above row 8. With the macro I currently have I can select cell B5, click the macro, and a new row will be inserted with "Grade A Steel" in column B of this new row. This action could be performed 5 times over, but would be easier if I could just mark a range of 5 cells, say B8:B12, click the macro and get the text/data inserted the column B-cells of all 5 of the new rows. So far I've been able to create a macro that inserts multiple new rows, but I've only been successful in filling the column B-cell in the first row leaving the 4 below empty.
I'm trying to get Excel 2010 to automatically generate a custom timeline in a separate tab using data I enter in a different tab. In the attached example, the data in the first tab ("daily log") tracks the number of trucks parked at a certain yard by the state they are registered in, their company, and their ID number. I would like Excel to automatically generate the timeline I've created by hand in the second tab ("Timeline (desired outcome)"). I need a formula that returns a "1" if several conditions are met (see comments in example) and a " " if those conditions are not met. I played around with IF(AND...) functions, but I've never used them before and couldn't make them work. There are a few complicating factors: there aren't a consistent number of trucks at the yard per day, and some trucks changed their ID numbers during the data period. I use a blank row, highlighted in dark grey, to visually differentiate days. This row can be filtered out with the "null" column.
