Const cyr = "123456789" 'the cyillic alphabet in order
Const lat = "abcdefghi" 'the latin alphabet in the same order
Function convertchar(inchar As String) As String
Location = InStr(cyr, inchar)

If I type any number in cell A1 and run the above convertcells, it is not converting to latin.

I run excel 2010... I have xls file (see file attached) with both English and Non English characters.
When I save this file as xls or xlsx - everything is good, but when I save the file as CSV and try to open it later - I see that the English characters stays the same but the non English characters become gibberish.
How can I save a file (that include some non English characters) as CSV without loosing the non English characters? Is there a way to do that from within the excel 2010 menus? Or maybe there is an external tool?

I want macro which export each excel column to new text file. The data in excel file is number. The column has only 5 rows that means each new text file should contain five lines of one column. It looks simple but couldn't manage to do macro for it. I have very big data set in one excel file, and have to be splitted into text files. The file name in new text files can be any kind as long as it can be in some sort of order for each export.

how to word it but if someone understands then please help. I have two excel data files namely Book1.xls & Book2.xls. Both files have different data in it. Both files contain macros. When these macros run the files become **FINALIZED** version.
Originally, I get the above files in my email as txt. attachments. I then move these two txt files to my desktop in a folder called Folder-1. Then I open these files as an Excel and save them.
Basically, I need to know if two txt files are sitting in a folder-1 on my desktop. What can I do or what can I clik that....those two text files get converted into excel automatically, including running that macro I talked about in the above paragrah.
To put it differently, if I have two txt files Book1.txt, Book2.txt in a folder, how can I automatically create an excel **FINALIZED**version which sits right next to their txt version.

i'm having a problem with a script I have (script is below). What i'm doing is running a script that displays files in a certain folder, those files are then displayed on sheet1 column O and are linked so when they are clicked upon, the file will open. I also have a combo box with a input range of $O$O. That puts the values in column O in the combo box. Now here is a problem and request.
Problem first, when I select the file names from the combo box, they don't open the file, all it does is display the file name in combo box and that's it. how to I get it to open up the file? Now for a request, I have another sheet that is almost exactly as the one i described above. The only thing different I want is when someone clicks on a file name from the combo box, instead of it automatically linking to the file, I want them to click on a button to display the file.
Sub HyperlinkXLSFiles()
ActiveSheet.Unprotect
Dim lCount As Long
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Application.EnableEvents = False
On Error Resume Next
With Application.FileSearch
.NewSearch
'Change path to suit
.LookIn = "c:Sec"
.FileType = msoFileTypeExcelWorkbooks
' .Filename = " Book*.xls"..................

i am very new to and admittantly can only use by running through the commands...i dont know how to run/use a macro with vba language...
so, i can easily set up a small macro run button that allows users to input a ''member number'' at any one time manually and it then selects the data behind that number and prints all relevant info/sheets etc,,,
HOWEVER, i dont know how to do an auto run selection in macro...so, rather than manually entering member 1, select, print, then manually enter member 2, select, print, then manually enter member 3 etc... i want to produce a macro that would automatically run the whole list of member numbers from 1 to 170 in order and print all their relevant info in one go...rather than manually entering the numbers which would take ages...
in a nutshell, select all (1 to 170), run all, print all...

I have a listbox with 8 columns. Multiselect is enabled, and it must stay this way. As part of my program, after the user presses a command button, I need to use the row indexes of the selected rows in order to copy the selected information into an array which is then placed in a different listbox, and then delete the items from the original list. Pseudocode of what I want to do:
[Code] .....
But my understanding is that .ListIndex does not work this way with multiselect listboxes. I've tried searching for a solution for a while, but I cannot find one.

I have a list of English words (about 2500) that are listed in excel in column A. In column B I'd like the Portuguese translation.
The best I've got so far is to have a hyperlink in column B -
=HYPERLINK("http://www.ultralingua.net/index.html?action=define&sub=1&nv=0&searchtype=stemmed&text=XXXXXX&service=english2portuguese",
"ultralingua").
Where I've typed 'XXXXXX' this is the word that will be translated in
ultralingua.
Is there any way that XXXXXX can be replaced with the contents of a source cell i.e. so ultralingua translates the contents of one of the cells from column A? I'll the transcriibe the result into column B.

I would like to run a macro against a worksheet that will have variations in the amount of data (rows not columns). The column headings will always stay the same.
Once the basics in the macro run (formatting) I will need a certain statement to "lookup" values in a column (see values below) "count" them and give me a total.
I have attached a before and after file showing what I would like the macro to ultimateley do because it is so time consuming. Any assistance would be most appreciated.
.083=0-2hrs
.125-.50=3hrs-12hrs
.541-1.0=13hrs-1day
1.04-5=25hrs-5days

So I have table that consists of several columns describing a single transaction. I want a macro to translate the (potentially thousands) of rows into a single cell for each row on another worksheet.
The rows need to be formatted by transaction type. The problem is that I know nothing of excel syntax .
I was thinking something along the lines of a case loop, if possible:
Case D1 = BUY
Output("You bought ("C1") on ("A1") for the amount ("E1")")
Case D1 = SELL
Output("You sold ("C1") on ("A1") for the amount ("E1")")
etc.
How would I get that into workable excel code, if possible?

I have US reporting package that e-mails a report, which I then run macros to put extract the required data, and pivot etc...
There can be anwhere between 1 and 15,000 lines of data.
The file is generated as a CSV file, with dates in the first column in the format mm/dd/yyyy. Other header information also has a "/" so it is impossible to do a text to columns.
I need to continue using UK dating format, so cannot change the Excel settings.
Can anyone provide me with VBA code to convert mm/dd/yyyy into dd-mmm-yyyy without it ignoring any dates where the dd is less than 12?

I have an excel file which I really need to encode non english characters as when I import it into our system all special characters return as
The problem is I need it to work similar to how this works: Unicode to HTML converter
It only encodes standard text, leaving the HTML intact, and only converts non-english characters such as UTF-8 etc...
I have tried setting the encoding when saving to a CSV file as UTF-8 however still no luck.

What is the most efficient way to change this into '3-columns & multi-rows' like this?:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
The actual list is a lot longer and numbers are not in order.
