Copy Range To New Workbook & Close Existing Workbook
Jun 30, 2008
I have a very brief question
dlgAnswer = Application.Dialogs(xlDialogOpen).Show
Selection.Copy
Windows("Derivative YK pricing Mod G.xls").Activate
Columns("B:B").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValuesAndNumberFormats, Operation:= _
xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Range("C5").Select
Application.CutCopyMode = False
Windows("EXPORT1.xls").Activate
ActiveWindow.Close
As you can see, I open a workbook with the dlgAnswer, I was wondering how I could close that opened workbook
Currently I have
Windows("EXPORT1.xls").Activate
ActiveWindow.Close
however the workbook will not always be called export1.xls, I want it to close whichever one I opened earlier.

Here's my macro:
Code:
Sub CopyRow()'
'Copies row to new sheet, highlights it, marks column 'A' as copied.
'
Dim cCell As Range
Set cCell = Selection.Cells(1, 1)
Selection.Copy
Sheets("Sheet2").Select
Rows("2:2").Select
[Code] .....
Is it possible to modify it to paste into a different workbook called c:filesDestination.xlsm, instead of the existing workbook (Source.xlsm)? The destination sheet name is the same (Sheet2). It's OK if both workbooks are open at the same time.

I have Excel 2002. If I start the program it opens with a blank workbook, called "Book 1".
If I then open an existing workbook, I have two Excel buttons in the Windows taskbar: the one I just opened, and the blank one titled Book 1.
At work I have Excel 2003. The blank "Book 1" is also there when I start the program, but if I then open an existing workbook, the Book 1 goes away. I like this way better.
My question is: Is this just the way versions 2002 vs. 2003 work, or can I change a setting somewhere to make Excel 2002 close its default blank workbook when I open an existing one?

this is the macro code I am using to copy the currently selected worksheet to an existing workbook:
Sub test2()
Workbooks.Open Filename:= _
"C:Documents and SettingsManagerDesktop PS444Log.xls"
Windows("PS444.xls").Activate
Sheets("sales").Select
Sheets("sales").Copy Before:=Workbooks("PS444Log.xls").Sheets(1)
End Sub
The source workbook is named PS444
The receiving workbook is named PS444Log
The sheet to be copied and moved is named sales
The source workbook is already open and the code is executed by clicking a button on the worksheet.
If I perform the steps manually the worksheet in the source workbook gets copied correctly into the receiving workbook.
The problem lies when I try to execute the code, the source worksheet doesn't get copied to the receiving workbook.
The receiving workbook gets opened but the worksheet does not get transfered.
Neither of the workbooks are protected nor are either of the worksheets protected in the workbooks.
Can someone tell me why the code is not copying the sheet to the receiving workbook.
I developed the code using the macro recorder so I don't understand why it doesn't work.

I have a user who is trying to use <EDIT><MOVE OR COPY SHEET> to copy a sheet to an existing workbook. She has them in the same directory and has them both open, but when she tries to copy a sheet from either of them to the other, the only workbook listed in the "TO BOOK" drop down menu is the one she is in. NO other workbooks show up as an option for her to copy to.

I m not able to use the standard Excel Paste Special function when I copied a range of cells in another Excel workbook opened in a separate instance of Excel. Instead, Paste Special thinks that I have copied some non-Excel objects and gave me the Paste As options. This is not the case if I open both workbook within the same instance of Excel. Could you share with us if there is a trick to trigger the normal Paste Special options in such situations (without having to invoke Macro procedures)?

I have 2 workbooks. 1 is where data is entered called wksPB, the other is like a database workbook. The wksPB has data to be feed from column B to F and there is a dropdown.
what im looking to do is, if the combobox value is selected as Decline then it should display a messagebox that reference value in cell B is denied. if combobox value is Agreed then the macro should search the database workbook for the text entered in column b of wksPB and then copy data of C:E of wksPB to H:J of database sheet where that text is found and also the approver name in wksPB C24 to the approver cell of where that text was found. I've reached till finding the text but what I get my head twiting on is how to copy the text from wksPB column B:F to database sheet column H:K. Im attaching the sample workbooks and the code where ive reached till.

I've got a kind of "menu" sheet that will pull up various reports from Excel spreadsheets. Rather than having the user work with the live data, the menu opens the file and saves it as a copy, closing the original. This is working fine.
The tweak I want to add is, since the user is looking at a copy rather than the live data, I don't want them to save when closing. Is it possible to programatically add a bit of code to the new copy to handle this?
Here's a sample of one of the menu button's code:
Code:
Private Sub CommandButton18_Click()
Dim wb As Workbook
Set wb = Workbooks.Open(Filename:="J:Z PII OvensRack Repair TrackingRack Repair List.xlsx")
With wb.Worksheets("Sheet1")
.Unprotect Password:="pass"
ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Sheet1").Copy
End With

I have data that daily needs to be refreshed and printed to pdf.
I figure the simplest way to do this would be to task schedule the workbook to open daily. Then on open it will refresh the data, print it after all data has been refreshed and close the workbook.
I set it up originally without the need to print so I have all the queries set to refresh when opening the file, however when I now try and put the code to print to pdf on the workbook open event it runs before the queries are finished running. (Query notes: queries were created through Microsoft query, and are accessing a MySQL database queries set to refresh when opening the file queries set to enable background refresh).

The amazing code I saw was from this thread Auto lock cells after data entry when file saved... where the code was made by Jafaar Tribak.
It basically locks cells that have had data inputted into them when the file is saved (with a nice prompt warning of the used cells being locked.
This is Jafaar's file [URL]
And this is my file where I'm trying to make it work in the "Employee data entry" Sheet:
[URL]
And finally this is the file after I tried to copy the code over : [URL]
Trying to make it so that in the employee data entry sheet locks cells after an employee inputs some data into said cells.
I thought that by setting an "inputrange" on the employee data entry sheet the code would track it down automatically but maybe I'm completely wrong. I cant see anything wrong with it (probably because I"m not that good at vba) but I fear I may have left out something really simple!
I seem to disable my other macros when i try to insert this code in (I have a macro that when you click on a cell a calendar pops up so you can click on a day from the calendar rather than typing out the date)

I'll soon have an ETL process that will load about 150K rows into an Excel workbook. On of the columns will be the end user's userid.
I need to autofilter that external workbook based on the end user's userid, copy that range, clear a worksheet on the current workbook, and copy that range to the current worksheet.
For example, see the attached workbooks. I need to replace the data in Source.xlsb!Cases with the data in Output.xlsb!Case_List, filtered on my userid, which we'll call foo.

I have a Macro that is stored in a specific workbook,"Projection Modeler.xls" the last line performed in this macro is the close workbooks without saving chages(this needs to be done due to the way this macro was written, and it would take too long to rewrite). If I would then like to reopen this workbook, and then rerun this macro, can I do this from inside the current macro (in a new sub routine, for instance), or do I have to write a macro outside of the workbook and then open the workbook and call the routine?

I have a sheet that users fill out and there is a macro on that sheet to copy the info to another workbook, save and close.
for some reason, the date, which originates from a cell with the value "=Today()", and when pasted in to the new book, it is pasted values.
the issue is, every so often, the date will say 09/26/10 and continue to do so for quite a few entries.
i have tried almost everything. I checked the dates on the computers, and all are fine. i even went through it step by step, and when the data pasted it, it was 09/26/10.

I am using Excel 2003.
It’s been working perfectly up until around an hour ago. However, now when I close Excel, I get compile errors.
These compile errors seem to be because Excel is trying to access controls in the workbook after it has closed. Since the workbook is closed, VBA can no longer ‘see’ the controls, and therefore it thows up errors.
I’m also getting a similar error on a Worksheets("DataExplorer").unprotect line, which seems to be because the worksheet isn’t there after closing.
These errors only occur when I close the whole excel application using the big cross in the top right. If I just close the workbook (using the smaller cross just below the big cross in the top right of excel), it doesn’t throw up these errors.
Just to clarify: all of the code runs perfectly when Excel is open. The errors are being thrown up for lines of code which run without problem until Excel is closed.

Walk - Task described above with all fixed identities.
Double- Can the task be performed using variables (sheets(variablee)) for the worksheets and ranges?
Home Run - Can task be done with variables in workbook, worksheet, and range? Or just recommend a book or link that can get me there.

I have created a spreadsheet some time ago and have been asked to improve on it but I'm rusty with VBA.
I have an automated ordering system that saves each sent order as the date e.g "05-04-2013.xls" but the management team want a graph with the data for the last 4 weeks compared. I have created a seperate workbook called "consumables report.xls" which has a column with the products listed followed by columns "Quantity" and "cost" which is repeated for the 4 weeks of the month.
I want to add a button to prompt the user to choose the saved order e.g "05-04-2013.xls" (all orders saved in same directory) to copy and paste the quantity and cost columns (c8,D69) into "consumables report.xls". I got this to work earlier but it would only paste the formulas and not the values. So I need
A prompt to open workbook
Copy range (c8,d69)
Close work sheet
Paste special .value (c8,D69)
I dont care if it has to open the workbook to copy the data as this will only be used once a month so it dosnt matter how slow the code is.
week 1 week 2 week 3 week 4
Product
quantity
cost
quantity
cost
cost
quantity
cost

I snagged this code out from another project I wrote, and it works fine in that one, but doesn't in the new project.
What I want, is when the person presses the exit button, it will save whatever was done, its running as a form printer and database. The code below is the code for my exit button.
Private Sub CommandButton4_Click()
Dim sAnswer As String
Dim i As Integer
' ****************
' ** Exit Button**
' ****************
When it gets to "If ActiveWorkbook.Saved = False Then" it does put the question out "Do you want to save changes" I click Yes and it doesn't save it.. I have tried both activeworkbook and thisworkbook ... I copied the code and verified all is good to go..

I have a range of weekly data that I need to copy into another workbook, paste it below the data that already exists there and then delete the data from the original workbook. I would love to do this with vba but after hours of searching on how to do this my brain is frazzled.
I have 50 workbooks that I need to import weekly into one master sheet (Master.xlsm) but they need to be done individually after the weekly data has been checked. The master sheet will therefore have existing data and the new data needs to be appended at the bottom. Also column A will be blank in both workbooks so to find the last used row it will need to look in column B.
The number of rows in the weekly sheet will also vary rather than be a fixed range so I guess the last used row will also need to be found there too.
The attached file is a cut down version of my working file showing where the data starts on Row 14, I won't need to copy the headings.
Example file 21.03.xlsm

I tried to open an existing Excel workbook, it tells me that it is already open. There is nothing on the screen. I closed Excel (using 2003 version) and restarted computer also. I tried to open the file again - nothing shows up on the screen. When I attempt to open the file again I get a message that says "(file name).xls is already open.
Reopening will cause any changes you made to be discarded. Do you want to reopen (file name).xls?". Even if I reopen the file, it still does not show up on the screen.

I have been trying to edit a code which previously saved a copy in a new workbook to a specific folder/path. (Additionally it copies and clears some figures, but this is working as it should.)
However I would like the copy to be saved at the same location as the original workbook, regardless of the path the original workbook is saved.
I.e if I need to move the workbook containing the code to a new folder/location, when using the macro, the new copy should be stored in the same folder/location as the original one.
For now it is only saving the copy into "My Documents"
Code:
Sub Macro1()
'
' Macro1 Macro
' Macro recorded 16-02-2009 by ceng

Sheets("Bunker ROB").Select
Sheets("Bunker ROB").Copy
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:= _
ActiveWorkbook.Path & Range("D3"), _
FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbookMacroEnabled, CreateBackup:=False
