If I want to improve my excel performance like ability to open multiple excel and sheets to perform calculation, should I change to a SSD or a faster intel chip? My current PC sometimes give me a black screen for my excel sheet or is unable to save certain sheets when I open too many sheets.

I was told that I have to copy/cut paste the document onto my desktop, edit/ work on it then move it back to the storage device. - column A: date
- column B: name
- column C: exercise weight
- column D: exercise rep's
- column E: exercise predicted max (essentially, weight x reps)
Now, I have a pivot table which picks out each persons highest "exercise predicted max" (right click on table, field settings, MAX) but I want to know the actual weight they've lifted and how many reps they've done with it.
So basically, I want a simple table which shows me the date, persons name, heaviest weight they've lifted and how many reps they did with it. I've used the CONCATENATE function to group the "exercise weight" and "exercise rep's" in to one cell but the pivot doesn't return any values (all cells in pivot = 0).
I have discovered a strange problem with my VBA code. After testing it on several machines, I've found no problems with my workbook until now. After being run on a rather slow Windows Vista laptop, I've found that VBA appears to be running faster than Excel, and consequently it is creating errors as VBA asks Excel to do things before it has finished a previous action. This is causing macros to fail several times in each run, though can be solved simply by pressing 'debug' and then F5 to continue the code. Is there a way to get VBA to run slower to solve this? As I can't think of any other way of doing it? I've certainly not seen it happen on any XP or Win 7 computer!

When I first entered the function code as a formula on the worksheet, the result was instant and correct.
However, if I change the contents of one of the cells in the stringconcat range, the result does not change.
I need to edit (eg F2 then enter) either the cell with the text or the cell with the formula for the result to update.
If I highlight the column where the formula is used and Find / Replace to change "=" for "=", they all update at once (tip I learn't here)
Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas why it may happen?
Notes:
I am using Excel 2000 (work)
I have 6 cols of info (I to N),
These 6 columns contain formulae that basically copies plain text from the same row in Cols A to F. (Since not all the left hand side cells are full, the formula copies down the value above if the cell isblank, or copies the cell value if there istext)
Formula is in Cell G2 and reads

Code is stored in the Module1
I have 1 header row (Row 1)
I have 16 rows of text (Rows 2 to 17)
Not all rows have text in all 6 columns, but the are no blank cells betweeen data working left to right

I am working to make an automatic result card in which excel automatically gets data of every student which is present in sheet within the workbook by simply writing roll number of the student in a cell. and i have done it easily by Vlookup and index functions but the only problem i am facing is, that i want to show the picture of each student by roll no. pictures are in one folder on my hard drive, now i want that as the roll number of the student is written the result excel should display the picture (from the folder, each picture named by roll)of the student. for example i write 1234 in roll no cell and want to get and show the picture no 1234 in another cell. All of the values are hard coded but I would like to make them dynamic, while maintaining the original content. For example, If cell C3 is a revenue figure for 2012 ($1,000) I would like to link it to cell C5, which will be a currency conversion rate (2.0). So I would like cell C3 to read =1000*C5, which would equal 2000, and for cell D3 to equal 2013 sales*D5, etc. I would also like this to go across a specified range so that I can also change operating expenses, taxes, etc over a number of columns (dates) that I define, all linking to the conversion rate for the given year. Having another tab where you link and anchor is an option but I would prefer something in VBA where I can qickly include this functionality with new workbooks that I download.

I'm trying to make it so that a backup copy of my file is written to floppy when the file is saved (but not with SaveAs). So far, I have the following code, which if the floppy is in the drive works fine, and doesn't error out if the disk is not in the drive. But it doesn't make sure that a backup copy actually got made. How would I check to see if the disk is in the drive and loop somehow until it was so that the file got saved to floppy?

I have a workbook with a field that contains the users name in cell B1. The first time the user opens the workbook, they put their name in this cell. Is there a way that that name can be saved to disk outside of the workbook in the same directory as the workbook is saved and a formula be put in workbook.open so that it will go get this name variable and insert it in B1 so the user doesn't have to enter their name each time.
I now have them putting their name in and saving the workbook which works until I send out an upgrade. Then they have to type in their name again.
I have a huge workbook that takes up a lot of memory. The user saves her work every day by saving the entire workbook. Hence, we are using up a lot of hard drive space. I have been trying to find a way to save the relevant worksheets in a format that consumes less disk space. I find that if I save a single worksheet as a web page without the option of interactivity the file is only about 50k. But I need to save three worksheets, not just one. Is there any way to do this? If not, is there any other SAVE AS method that allows one to save three worksheets at a reduced file size? I do not need interactivity, I simply need for the user to be able to go back and view the relevant information in each file.

My document will be read by LOADS of people, so I want to be able to follow my eye across. A soft system like that lets someone scroll across twenty columns and see they're still on the same row. It's like writing 7 Oct 2013 instead of 07/10/2013. It makes sense whether you use UK dd/mm/yyyy or US mm/dd/yyyy. People say 'October' not 'month no 10.' That's my logic and design principle.

There is a button on the sheet Mandatory Training that looks at the sheet CS CM and finds certain numbers, when it does it makes them red and copies them to the Mandatory Training sheet. If other lines are added to CS CM that have the same numbers and the button is clicked again, only the new entries are made red and copied to Mandatory Training.
I am generating the chart from the following code but when it prints i.e (Mode#1 or 2 or 3 etc....) with type i.e. (GL_Weld or Bend or any other text). Printing as i.e. (Mode#1Bend or Mode#2GL_Weld). I would like some space in between (Mode#1 Bend) or (Mode#2 GL_Weld) or even put it in next line underneath it ( Mode#1 Bend).

During function calculations in VBA, such as is done by numerical integrators, numerical run-time errors may occur, such as:
Err.Number = 5 Invalid procedure call eg. LOG(-5)
Err.Number = 6 Overflow
Err.Number = 11 Division by zero
My present strategy to address these errors:
Say the variable x is used in the function calculations, and some particular value of x causes one of the above errors to occur. After the above errors are trapped, the x value is increased slightly from its initial value, and the failed calculation line is retried (Resume). On the next error trap, the x value is decreased slightly from its initial value, and the calculation tried again. This way, the initial x value is cyclically changed by adding increasing magnitude increments of alternating signs, searching for the nearest x value which will allow the function calculation to be done without error. Thus it causes the x value to swing around the initial x value in a pendulum-like manner, but with a widening swing per pass.

I have a large worksheet (Sheet1) containing approximately 15,000 records (15,000 rows x 21 columns). I need to search through all these records, and manually decide whether a record should be copied onto another worksheet (Sheet2) or not. how to reduce formula size/improve excel efficiency?
I have a really complicated formula with lots of COUNTAs, VLOOKUPs, IFs, etc etc etc which returns a variety of values, ZEROs (for blank cells being referenced), and #NAs.
I would like to turn all ZEROs and #NAs into ""s without repeating this super long formula over and over.

I'm using the following code to populate the columns next to the dynamic named range dataforgraph (varies in length). It works, but the problem is that it takes ages. Is there a more efficient way of doing it. It is important that it only populates the cells next to the varying dataforgraph. The avg1 and stadev1 are the same for each entry (thus constants)

I have a relatively small Excel workbook that is using numerous lookup and Match function combinations. I also have a number of dynamic ranges defined and a few UDFs.
Problem is I am encountering some fairly severe performance issues. Changing a single value on a sheet is taking ages.
I suspect it may be due to the workbook dynamic ranges recalculating. Is there a limit to the amount of dynamic ranges in a workbook? And when do they get recalculated? Could it be something to do with sequencing of the calculations?
I'm trying to write some code that is performing operations on large arrays, using a pair of For loops. In languages like C++ and Fortran, it makes a big difference to the performance of the code which way round you put these 2 For loops, due to the way that array data is stored in the computer memory. However, for VBA, I've no idea which way round this is. For an array, A(i,j), do I want

I have an entire row of if statements that basically check other sheets if a number occurs. If it does then it will display "Pending Approval" ,"Open", or "Closed" depending on which sheet the # appears on .. Just wandering if their was a better formula for this..

This causes a bit of a delay (7 seconds or so) when switching to the sheet, which is causing the user to think that excel has locked up.
I am trying to work out a % score for a telephone operator. To explain further, I would monitor a call that an agent takes. The agent starts at 100%. There are 20 points to be scored and they are scored like this
1 - Yes
0 - No
left blank - n/a
B3 counts the number of entries in the column
B2 counts the number of 1's in the column
B28 = B2/B3
Seems to work fine until the agent makes a fail which would enter a 0 in the column. Somewhere I think I need to take account that there are 20 possible fails or passes?
I need formula to calculate a fee based on performance. For example I have 4 unique keys with the following performance:

I need to work out how I can formula drive a fee calculation based on performance which is subject to different ranges:

For example key 20 has a min fee chargeable of 100, however a fee is chargable based on performance as follows:
Fee Range 10-9999

So key 20 gets charged 0.1% of amounts between 0&9,999, 0.2% of amounts between 10,000&19,999, 0.3% on amounts between 20,000& 29,999 and 0.4% on the rest.
How can this be combined into a lookup/range/low-high formula to extract the correct values????
Morning all. I'm trying to use VBA to generate autoshape arrows to track changes in values.
Something allong the lines of Column B (Jans data) C (Febs Data) E (autoshape arrow, green up, for improvement, or red downwards for a worsening).
The problem I'm having is postioning my autoshapes. The only way I can do it at present is to keep all columns and rows a standard width, and position using multiples of those.
Is there anyway to set the autoshape to the cell height and width, and position it within the boundries of the cell? This way I don't have to worry about rewiting my code every time I change a cell width?
