Editing File On Ftp Site (i.e. Opening Not Readonly, Or Downloading First)
Jul 7, 2006
I've got a basic spreadsheet that I edit at home and at work, and I am always forgetting to either email it to myself or copy it to a flash drive. So I figure I'll use my ISPs webspace given to me, and then just edit it on the ftp site from home and work so there is just one copy. I can add the ftp site and my name and password in Excel fine. BUT when I open it, it is always read only. How do I open it with write access? I have specified my ftp username and password in Excel.
I am writing a VBA for downloading a csv file from google trend.
In the first worksheet ,enter the search keyword in the excel file and the click a button to download the csv file and place it in another worksheet in the same excel file.
I have had some experience with downloading the stock stat. csv file from yahoo but then I realize this time is really a different story. In the google trend case, I cannot find a real URL of the csv file.
I strongly believe the solution is on [URL] .....
I have tested the code in #1 .It runs but cannot return a proper csv file just like Lloyd said. I do not understand what Kyle said. What do title and id refer to ?
Besides,I do not understand and cannot run the code in #6.
What is the input and output of this code?
When I run this, I face a Run- time error '-2147024891(80070005)'.
I have tried to search these forms for some information on how to have VBA code check a file saved in an FTP site. I am hoping to use this file to contain version information where the workbook code will compare the version of the workbook to the version log saved in a text file on an FTP server. If they are different, I would like a pop up window to appear that notifies the user that there is a new file available, and perhaps a prompt to save that new file to the user's computer (it does not need to update and replace current workbook).
Is it possible to have VBA check an FTP site for this if I put the username and password in the code?
I have a need to open a file from my companies intranet. My current method was to open said file via the method that the recorder gave me. However, I would like ot be able to open a said file without having to start open another workbook.
This is the path: [url]
So the command is this: Workbooks.Open [url]
Links are not actual links
So what I need to know. Is how can I open this file without opening a workbook. I haven't been able to use the VB "Open Statement" to open a file and I don't believe that I've been successfull using the Filesystem object either.
I have two CSV files that I would like to edit through Excel VBA. Both files have too many lines to be shown in Excel though, so I can't just use cell rerences. Every so many lines I want to delete a row and insert a row from one CSV file to the other. I could easily write a loop do this with cell references, but since all the lines aren't shown I can't do that. I have no idea how to reference all the rows in the CSV file with VBA when most of them aren't viewable on the worksheet.
I am getting a message, the Excel file i am opening (xlsm) is locked for editing by 'another user'. But, NOT SO, of course; i am the only user logged in to this PC, and there is no network access. I quit Excel and verified that i see no Excel processes running. But, when i try to open the file, i still get the "locked by 'another user'" message, and at this point can only open read-only. I looked in the folder the file is in and do not see any of those ~ files or anything else suspicious.
So, what do i do? How do i "unlock"? How can i open this file once again to make modifications to it?
I have a text file, which has a column of wrong data. I can change it manually by loading it into Excel but it is semi-colon delimited and I can't export to such a file.
I therefore, would like to write a VBA tool, which reads the file and edits the the value between the 5th and 6th semi-colon and will continue do this for each row (the new value is constant across the rows).
I tried to open excel file from shared drive but it's pop up
"File in use" xxxx.xls is locked for editing by XXXX, Open 'Read-Only' or click 'Notify' to open read-only and receive notification when the document is no longer in use.
I din't know how to insert the picture so that I wrote everything.
It happens almost every time even if file has not opened by any one. how can I stop it? Version: Excel 2010. OS Name: Microsoft windows 7 professional.
i have this code to run autofilter in protected sheet2, assigned to a check Box, but it gives me this Msg when i run the code by checking the check Box: File in use. The file is locked for editing by the (my name). However, when i excute the code by F5 in the VBE window, it works fine also when i excute the code from Worksheet_Activate , it works fine
Sub t() With Sheet2 . Protect "0", , , , userinterfaceonly:=True, Allowautofilter:=True .AutoFilterMode = False .Range("A5:DT5").AutoFilter End With End Sub
I know that a workbook/spreadsheet can be made a readonly, but i find that this can be altered even if password protected.
I m looking for is a way of making it so when the user has finished entering in data and they save it, ready to send to anther user to view, that the whole sheet is readonly with no way of editing it ( like protecting the whole sheet).
I have a file that I save with a new version number each time I make major changes. The file name currently is: "Telephony Equipment Inventory v26 (Summary).xlsm". The "26" is the variable number. give me the vba code to ensure I open the file with the highest version number?
I'm currently using this script to download over 400 txt files which are needed for a project here at work. It works great, however, it will download the ftp files in question (which it gets a list of from another tab) in order. I would like a way to either download all 400 ato nce, or in a batch of 50 or even 100. As it is, the procedure takes around 70 mins to complete. I was hoping of a way to speed it up.
Here is the script I am using.
VB: Private Declare Function URLDownloadToFile Lib "urlmon" Alias "URLDownloadToFileA" (ByVal pCaller As Long, ByVal szURL As String, ByVal szFileName As String, ByVal dwReserved As Long, ByVal lpfnCB As Long) As Long Public Function DownloadFile(URL As String, LocalFilename As String) As Boolean Dim lngRetVal As Long lngRetVal = URLDownloadToFile(0, URL, LocalFilename, 0, 0)
In this workbook, I am working with several things. Once I upload my items into the listbox, put a button where I select one item and delete? What would be the code for that? When I finish with my userform, adding items, once I click order, how could I populate the cells in the spreadsheet with that info? Also, in sheet2 I have the price for those items. Once I populate the cells, how could it find the price and multiply into a total?
I am trying to do something simple but not quite sure how to do it. I am using the GetImportFileName and then selecting information of one sheet from that file and copying to another workbook. I need to know how to then get back to the file I have opened to search the next sheet and so on. The problem I have is with this line.
Workbooks(FileName).Activate
Sub GetImportFileName() Dim Finfo As String Dim FilterIndex As Integer Dim Title As String Dim FileName As Variant
' Set up list of file filters Finfo = "All Files (*.*),*.*"
' Display *.* by default FilterIndex = 5
' Set the dialog box caption Title = "Select a file to Import"
' Get the Filename FileName = Application.GetOpenFilename(Finfo, FilterIndex, Title)
rows 1 and 2 are used for my parameters. row 1 being used for descriptions: Ticker Symbol, Start Date, End Date, and pulling in the close price and volume for each ticker symbol with the selected date range. row 2 being used for entering the parameter info. row 2 Would read (as an example)
MSFT, 1/1/2002, 1/1/2003, close price, volume.
For each ticker in column A, add a separate wksheet named the ticker symbol and pull in the corresponding info.
So the final result for MSFT, would be an added wksheet named MSFT, with the colums headers being the close and volume, and the rows being the date parameters set in row 2.
Is it possible to access data from flash content using excel?
The data I am looking for can be found by navigating to this link: [URL] ..., selecting one of the live games by clicking on the names of the teams, then clicking on the statistics tab on the next page.
The data I'm looking to extract is the shots data, i.e. shots on target, shots off target and shots on woodwork, plus the current score.
I have some VBA code that allows the user to open a linked powerpoint presentation from an Excel workbook. It works well but it does not ask the the user to update links so if the Excel book has changed the powerpoint stays the same. I am very new to VBA so I tend to copy things that work but don't always know why! Anyone out there know how to get it to update links automatically or at least ask the user to do so? Here is the code:
I would like to open a certain file everyday. However each day this file is created and named with the date, for example Production_FixYYYYMMDD.csv, in VBA how do I accomplish this? The alternative I could think of is to create a .bat file to copy that file over to a separate directory and rename it Production_Fix.csv and just use that, but if that batch file fails to run that would cause issues.
Any idea why a file in my XLSTART folder does not open when I start Excel?
I had a cell in a file (not one of the files in XLSTART folder) that was refered to by thousands of other cells. I clicked on Trace Dependents and Excel then spent the next 10 minutes trying to point to all the cells. I eventually gave up and used the Windows Task Manager to close Excel. Ever since then Excel doesn't open 1 of the 3 files I have in the XLSTART folder.
I'm looking for a command for a macro, haven't been able to find it thus far. Is it possible to get excel to open a .txt for example, and copy its contents into excel at an activecell?
I have a 14.3 MB xlsb file that I am trying to open with no success as it just hangs. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the data out of there? I would like to be able to get the data to a pivot and copy the pivot to another file to try and reduce the load on one file. I tried to import to Access but was told I was using a file version before 2007, which is impossible since it is a xlsb file.
I am having a problem that shouldn't be that hard to fix, but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a file in the xlstart folder, called "personal.xls" with macros in it. The security level is at low, it isn't on the disabled list, and it won't automatically open when excel opens. If I double click on it, it opens. It just won't open when excel is first started. Is there any way to correct this?
Everyday a report is emailed to me as an attachment in .pdf and .xlsx format. It is always sent to me from the same address and comes at around the same time every day.
I already have another macro that uses that report to update our records with the new info in the report and then email our records to my boss. I would like to make it easier for other people who also get the report emailed to them to run the macro. To do so I would like to amend the macro I have to check for the email in whoever is running the macro's inbox and download only the .xlsx file and save it to the correct location.
I have tried messing with the restrict method. I want to make this thing fool proof. (Ex. if the email isn't in yet, return a msg box informing as such.)
The code for the macro I already have can be found below. Confidential stuff has been redacted.
Code: Sub PartThree() 'This macro does the following: '1.) runs the MTD.template.xls module 2
I have a list of expenses on a certain project. I allocate each line to a certain type of expense by using a dropdown list. When re-opening the file, the first few lines were good: dropdownOK.jpg
But after a few lines, the dropdown range changed, although it keeps the selection I made in the previous version: dropdown_wrong.jpg
I have seen that the data validation list changed to =$A$2:$A$17 instead of my separate list =Dropdown!$A$2:$A$17 but cannot understand why excel has made this twist. Each month I update this list, which means adding lines to the list, both inserting them at the bottom, as in between other lines. I can't see any pattern, because it kept the range of the first 6 lines, when the previous version already had 50 lines or so. It does not only happen to the inserted lines, for example.
I want to use a macro to open an existing file on my c drive where the reference to that file is contained in a cell.
E.g. In my sheet, the cell A1 contains the following text "C:Documents and SettingsTest". Therefore the file I want to open using a macro will be Test.xls.
However the file I wish to open (and therefore the reference text in cell A1) could change (and it could also change to be a word document) so it needs to be able to adapt when a new valid file (and document type) reference is entered into the cell.
Also, as an aside, when I want to change the file referred to in A1, the easiest way I've found is to find the file I want in windows explorer, go to properties and copy the file reference and then paste it into A1. However the reference (from the properties tab) seems to miss the ".xls" or ".doc" at the end (see above). Is this an issue? If yes, then I'm happy to manually type the .xls or .doc extension at the end.
