Finding Recent And Previous Dates Based On Multiple Criteria?

Apr 29, 2014

i have with noting the most recent date of a test and also the one prior to the most recent dependant on location and test type. I require most recent and previous test info to enable a comparrison to be made. All other dates are not required but need to be kept as historical data and can't be deleted.

Excel 2013 :: Saving / Opening Workbook With Multiple Windows

Aug 7, 2013

With excel 2013 you're now able to open multiple windows or views of the same workbook. However when a workbook is saved with multiple windows open, the next user to open the spreadsheet will also open it with multiple windows. Which can be very annoying when most people work off of one window vs. multiple. Is there a way to disable saving the multiple windows or a macro to force open excel in 1 window?

Force Single Instance Of Excel When Opening New Workbook From Email?

Aug 28, 2013

I have multiple buyers that use an Excel workbook containing several macros to perform edits on other workbooks they receive via email. Generally, they have the workbook containing the macros open, and they can double-click the workbooks they receive in the email messages to open them, and the macros are available from the "master" workbook.

Recently, however, some of the buyers have been getting new computers running Windows 8 and Office 10. Now when they have the "master" workbook open, and double-click the attached workbook in an email, (Outlook 10), the new workbook opens in a new instance of Excel, and as a result the macros are not available to run on the newly opened workbook.

The work around has been to right-click the attachment and save it to their desktop, and then use the File/Open command from the "master" to open the new file. This is a hassle and takes extra time.

I'm sure I am overlooking a setting somewhere that tells Excel to always open new workbooks using the same instance of Excel, (there are two people using the new systems that aren't having problems, and two that are), but for the life of me I can't find where to set these parameters.

Opening Excel Workbook With Embedded Connections Using VBA And Auto Refreshing

Apr 3, 2014

I have an Excel Workbook with Showcase Queries embedded into it.

Upon a manual open, the user is prompted to either refresh data or keep data since last save, the user then has to enter a username and password to allow the query to access the database.

Using the code below to open the workbook, no such prompts are given. Is the code overriding the prompts and automatically refreshing the data without password? [Given nature of data, visual validation of refresh is not possible]

If not, how can we code a data refresh through showcase query with user/pw req's?

Excel 2007 :: Using Parameters While Opening Workbook To Get File To Autoload

Oct 5, 2012

I need to combine AHK and Excel, and in this I came up with the solution to save my parameters in a file, and let the workbook autoload it when I open the workbook. To do this I need to pass a command line parameter, or working directory to the workbook, as I will be using many different work directories for this to make sense.

This is only a matter of how to execute my workbook so that the path is included (and usable) to the working directory

I have tried

..workbook-name.xlsm /p "workdir"

But it results in a "grey" version of Excel aka. Excel is open, but no workbooks are.

I have also tried

excel.exe workbook-name.xlsm /p "workdir"

But this did not work either, and is not an option as we use both 2007 and 2010 at my workplace where this is intended to be used.

I can do it very easily by using absolute paths in the Excel auto-load, but as I have explained already this is just not an option.

Excel 2007 :: ActiveX Controls Command Button Opening Worksheet In Same Workbook

Feb 6, 2014

I have a workbook with two worksheets, "Main" and "Control".

Both of them are with hidden tabs (unchecked "show sheet tabs").

On worksheet "Main" I have command button which opens worksheet "Control".

The assigned makro is: Sheets("Control").Select

The problem is: when I open "Control" and close after that the workbook, the next time when I open the workbook "Control" pops-up instead of "Main" even though I do not save it.

1. I need macro on "Main" which will allow me to open "Control".

2. Regardless I "Save" or "Don't Save" "Control" when selected and workbook is closed, to open the workbook always displaying worksheet "Main".

I use Excel 2007 (at home) & 2010 (at office).

Excel Workbook - Finding Hidden Link

Jan 9, 2014

I have an excel workbook that a colleague of mine is working with. each time she opens it, she gets a message telling her that a .xls file could not be found, and a web-address specifying the file path. We went through the workbook together and looked at all of the formulas and i cannot find anywhere that this address is referenced. I also looked for any code, but there was nothing showing on any of the worksheets in the entire workbook. I broke all the links to other workbooks, used find and replace to search for the path, and to search for all the formulas. I also copied the tabs to a new workbook, but to no avail.

Opening A File Without Opening A Workbook

Apr 17, 2007

I have a need to open a file from my companies intranet. My current method was to open said file via the method that the recorder gave me. However, I would like ot be able to open a said file without having to start open another workbook.

This is the path:
[url]

So the command is this:
Workbooks.Open [url]

Links are not actual links

So what I need to know. Is how can I open this file without opening a workbook. I haven't been able to use the VB "Open Statement" to open a file and I don't believe that I've been successfull using the Filesystem object either.

VBA To Create New Workbook From Most Recent User-numbers From Exported List

Apr 15, 2012

I need to create a macro that can produce a new workbook with the list of the most recent users of my company, so that we can print their membership cards.

From my company's admin I can export the complete list of users with their name, serial number and address. Every time we export this list, the file is saved as "userdata-dd-mm-yyyy.xls", and "dd-mm-yyyy" as today

However, I would like to create a macro that would
1) open the most recent "userdata-dd-mm-yyyy.xls" workbook in the folder,
2) compare the user numbers in this file with the most recent "card_order-dd-mm-yyyy.xls" and
3) produce a new "card_order-dd-mm-yyyy.xls" workbook with the list of all new users since the last "card_order-dd-mm-yyyy.xls" ("dd-mm-yyyy" as today), based on the highest number for user number (this is a continuous list)

Note, the "userdata-dd-mm-yyyy.xls" workbook has name, serial number, address, expiration date and user number as columns.... but the extracted info to "card_order-dd-mm-yyyy.xls" is just of the name, serial number and expiration date.

What is the easiest way of doing so and what code should I use for the macro?

Opening New Workbook And Pasting Values Into Current Workbook?

May 13, 2014

I am using the below code (i have combined different bits of code which i found on these forums) to open a new workbook, copy all the data in it and paste it into Sheet2 in the active workbook . Also, i want the data to be pasted on the next empty row as there is already data in Sheet2. The data that is being copied and pasted has the same format and it is going to be repeated many times.

The problem i am having is that it is not offsetting the data to the next empty row - i think it is a simple change but i can't seem to get there :s

Also, the code is currently selecting all of the data from the workbook that i open - is there a way i can select all of the data, excluding the first row (the first row contains the headings which i already have in Sheet2 in the active workbook).

Excel / VBA / Outlook Integration - Attach Most Recent File

Jun 21, 2013

I am trying to create a script for a manually morning process that I need to complete that entials downloading a number of .PDF files and sending them out to a distribution list. I am unable to automate that actual saving of the files onto the network drive, but I believe I can automate the process of attaching them to the email. I have run across some problems so far though, this is what I have been able to come up with. After doing a bit of research it seems as though using cmd would be the best way to locate and attach the file but I am still unable to get it to run properly:

Code:
Sub AttachMultiple()
With CreateObject("Outlook.Application").CreateItem(0)
.To = "test@gmail.com"
.Subject = "Test"
.Attachments.Add Split(CreateObject("wscript.shell").exec("cmd /c Dir 'G:Client ReportingMGIDaily
ReportsAGFAJune 2013*.pdf' /b /o-d").stdout.readall, vbCrLf)(0)
.Send
End With
End Sub

Here is an example of a folder I will be trying to pull the most recent saved PDF from, there are about 10 similar folders:

I feel like I am relatively close to completely this, my cmd syntax may just be a little off.

Save Data From One Workbook To Another Without Opening Workbook

Mar 1, 2013

I have a spreadsheet that data gets exported to from a software program. There is information such as customer name, part number, inquiry number, etc that I'd like to use to develop a log of all my estimates I create for parts. I'd like excel to take the cells I select and insert them into certain cells in the other workbook and automatically save that workbook. This will create a log of all my estimates where I can then link the full estimate to the log. The information will have to go in the next available row. Is there any way I can accomplish this without having to open the other workbook and save the work book each time?

Opening In Different Workbook

Jan 6, 2007

I currently have a workbook that, when opened, automatically kicks off a macro (with a call from the Workbook_Open event in ThisWorkbook). I was to run that same called macro from a custom button that I put on a toolbar in Excel itself...which is pretty straight forward. However, when I do this, the macro kicks off twice...once from the button and once because the called macro's workbook opens and kicks off the macro with the Workbook_Open event.

So, what I was thinking was...is there a way to tell if a workbook is being opened by another workbook (by calling it's macro) or whether is was opened "normally (manually)"?

Add-in Opening A Workbook As Read Only

Feb 9, 2009

I have created an Add-in for use across the business, the add in calculates financial impact based on figures that are stored on the shared drive.

The addin currently opens the workbook, and sets the variables to figures contained in the workbook - and then closes the workbook.

To roll this out to the business - I need to get the add-in to open the workbook as read Only, so that it will allow multiple users to access at once. I have set to open as read only in the past - however this prompts me to save the workbook as something else.

Is there any way I can get this to just open as read only, do what it needs to - and then close; without having the option to save as something else?

File is stored in "E:NetworkTeam1Testfile.xls"

However, some users have access to this file and it is mapped as E:, but some users have been mapped as F: The advisors who have been mapped as F: cannot access the file. Is the VBA/Macro smart enough to bypass the drive letter and just search the rest of the past...NetworkTeam1Testfile.xls".
