Getting Data From MDB File Protected With User Level Permissions?
Aug 30, 2013
I need to get the data from an MDB file. No problems normally but in this case the MDB is protected with a workgroup file (MDW) from the old user level permissions that was available in Access.
Is it it possible to get data from the Data ribbon from a protected file or do I need to resort to vba?
I am having an issue with Excel creating a duplicate file when logged in as a user with restricted permissions on our network. If I modify a file while logged in as another user, excel will save the file but will also create a duplicate file with an eight character random name and no file extension. For example if user "Dave" opens a file called test.xls and saves it, in that same folder on the server a file named 296E9E20 will be created. Users are using Windows XP SP3 boxes and the server is running Win 2003. I am not sure why this only happens with Excel.
I've created a shared spreadsheet with multiple sheets. All the content was created to be visible without having to scroll at 87%. My question is can I protect or lock the zoom level so that when anyone else opens the spreadsheet, it will only be visible at 87%? I have my screen resolution at "Smallest" so not sure if that too will affect the viewing level.
I have an the excel book with sheets that are password protected so that the users cannot delete rows or columns.
In each sheet I gave permissions for certain ranges that need to be filled out only to specific users that need to fill out those cells.
The users are located and managed in the Active Directory.
The point is that each user can only update his/her sheet within the Excel book.
It was working for a day or two and then all of a sudden without any changes all the permissions were gone and every user was able to edit every sheet.
I have created a simple userform that is linked to a button on sheet1. When the data in the userform is submitted, I set it up so it goes into a database under sheet2. The problem is, I don't want anyone modifying the entries in the database. Usually I would protect the sheet with a password, but when I do that, there is an error when the userform is submitted. The only thing I can think of is to hide sheet2, which doesn't seem like a great solution.
Is there any way to protect my database from being modified yet still allow the userform to be linked to it?
I wish to import data from another workbook which will always be one directory level up from the target workbook. The problem is that the source workbook's name will change but it can always have the first four characters the same, ie, List_Dublin, List_Kildare, etc.
I have an existing application that uses DAO sql queries to populate a form. It has always worked fine. Earlier this week, I password protected the spreadsheet. Now my DAO query fails. I get a run-time error '3161'. Could not decrypt file.
' Const stExtens As String = "Excel 8.0;HDR=Yes;" Const stExtens As String = "Excel 8.0;HDR=Yes;PWD=money16;"
Private Sub Execute_Query(SQL) 'Instantiate the DAO objects. strDb = ThisWorkbook.FullName Set DAO_ws = DBEngine.Workspaces(0) ' code fails on the line below Set DAO_db = DAO_ws.OpenDatabase(strDb, False, True, stExtens) Set DAO_rs = DAO_db.OpenRecordset(SQL, dbOpenForwardOnly) End Sub
Code: Else Sheet8.Unprotect Password:="rm123abc" Sheet8.Range("V" & rw) = "Item is not found in the Data Base. Please Contact DME for all documentation requirements for this item" Sheet8.Protect Password:="rm123abc", AllowFiltering:=True, AllowInsertingRows:=True, AllowDeletingRows:=True End If
Unfortunately, once the code has run and has finished re-protecting my sheet, it doesn't allow the user to select locked cells. These locked cells contain hyperlinks, and they need to click on these hyperlinks to navigate through my workbook.
So I have two questions:
1. How can I enable allow user to select locked cells 2. Do I have to allow the user to select locked cells to access my hyperlinks, or is there another option?
I have an excel file with multiple sheets. I want my HR team to update that file, but one user shouldnt see the entries of other users. I want to make a consolidated file out of three files. This excel template is for salary input.
a) run a code that will create a pop-up window with the question, "Can you show me where the CODEMAP.txt" file is?"
b) then the user will locate the file in a pop-up window and be able to click/select the file and there are "ok" and "cancel" buttons.
c) once the "codemap.txt" file is selected, the vba code will automatically change this file to "codemap.csv" so that it will open in excel (temporarily). This file can be placed anyway, even on the desktop because it won't be needed later. This is only temporary.
d) Then on the "codemap.csv" file, everything from sheet 1, cell b1 to cell b700 are copied and pasted to sheet two of this macro
An Excel file named CLEARING is availble in thr central server system. it will be accessed by 5 or 6 staffs from some other systems what i need is when one person accesses/edits this file the others should not even able to open in the read only file ,when the file is saved and closed ,then only the next person should access it
Sheet 1 is a large data array (approx 8 columns x max 400 rows), than contains the inventory and cost information of a list of products in a running cafe.
Sheet 2 is is a recipe analysis tool that I want to be able to use data validations to cost out recipes, drawing information from sheet 1 in three dependent drop down boxes 1- category, 2- supplier, 3- item name, which then returns that items cost per standard of measure.
Sheet 3 is where I have started to try to generate a unique list for category and supplier to assist sheet 2 in referencing from sheet 1.
There is data overlap across the inventory items, with many items having the same category and or supplier.
Examples that I have found online use the index and match function, in conjunction with naming to return the array required for the drop down, however most of these examples I have found contain simple unique lists.
I cant seem to nut dynamic naming, which is integral as the list is expanding and contracting all the time.
So far I have been successful by manually naming a range (not a satisfactory solution as per above) and then using the indirect function to reference that named array from sheet 1.
I have an Excel File and I have created some code. I locked the VBA Project where that code is contained..... However when I work with the excel executing the mentioned code and after that I try to save it with the information resulting, Excel shows me the following message: "YOU CAN NOT SAVE TO THIS FILE FORMAT WHEN THE VBA PROJECT IS PROTECTED. YOU MAY UNPROTECT THE VBA PROJECT BY CHOOSING THE PROPERTIES COMMAND ON THE VISUAL BASIC EDITOR’S TOOLS MENU, AND ENTERING THE PASSOWORD FOR THE ACTIVE PROJECT....."...
Below is the current code I have for File Copy before the workbook closes. This file will be distributed all over and obviously will not have the same old path and new path locations as I have in my code also will not have the same file name. Is there anyway to still perform the file copy without knowing the old path and file name and possibly have message box pop up to ask the copy to location and use that in the new path string?
Sub Macro1() Dim fs As Object Dim oldPath As String, newPath As String oldPath = "I:EXLDATAMC Daily" '<---Where the file is currently located newPath = "H:South RegionOrlando Mail Services2008DI" 'Since the super shared drive is super slow we will just copy and replace this file each time before we close and of course after we save Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") fs.CopyFile oldPath & "" & "OrlandoMail.xls", newPath & "" & "OrlandoMail.xls" Set fs = Nothing End Sub
I have written a macro to select a range of cells one by one and open the excel files mentioned in them and execute a task. It works fine. But I want the system to see if the file exists in its folder or if the file is password protected (for opening). Either of the case the file should be skipped without a warning message and any attempt to open. I need a macro for that. Following is the way the cell contents are
I:ORDERSS-S 10ALIYAMARKET ORDERSADDADD-LADIES-LEGGINGS-13246.xls I:ORDERSS-S 10ALIYAMARKET ORDERSADDADD-LADIES-PANTS-13247.xls I:ORDERSS-S 10ALIYAMARKET ORDERSADDADD-LADIES-SHORTS-13244.xls I:ORDERSS-S 10MICHELLEGAMESWORLDWIDE COMPANYWORLDWIDE COMPANY - GAMES - 10014.xls
And following is the VBA code I wrote. It it almost stops when reaching a non-existing file name
I have a file used by numerous facilties. I would like code to track any time a protected sheet has been unprotected / protected. I would also like the stamp to show the user data if that can be done.
Workbook Password Protect 2 Levels. I have managed to write simple but effective code that allows only one password to be enetered to open a SS & offers 3 levels of protection, limited permission to enter data, read-only & data completely hidden. This is excellent for my needs however I want the user who has limited rw to be able to insert a pic file which is their signature but because the sheet has protected cells it won't allow user to insert picture jpg file.
I have just thought of a creative solution tho. What if the picture file is already saved in the workbook and by using code to ask to insert pic file it copies from one location in SS to the appropriate cell in the worksheets?
The scenario is that I have fortnightly timesheets in 12 calendar months in 12 separate sheets. When staff member fills in timesheet I want them to insert signature for that f/night indicating thatthey have filled it in & it is correct but because of protection it won't allow me to.
A client has sent me an Excel workbook that appears on the screen with the message adivising that it is Protected View as a result of having been downloaded from the internet. If I click on the Enable Editing button the workbook is completely deactivated. I have played around with my Trust Centre settings but nothing seems to work.
I've got a spreadsheet that has password protection before you can "modify" it. All of a sudden today, when I open the spreadsheet and enter the correct password, it still opens but only as Read Only.
Hi there, I have searched for this problem and whilst I can see several "round-about" ways to achieve what I want, none quite do it in a way I would like.
Essentially, I have a dropdown box, with a list of water types. What is selected from the dropdown determines the data from a lookup table that gets utilised in subsequent calculations.
The lookup table is protected and cannot be edited, however what I would like to do is for the last entry on the dropdown box, which could be called "special water" would then prompt for a password. If the correct password is entered than the last row of data corresponding to "special water" in the lookup, becomes unlocked and can be edited. If the password is not forthcoming the user cannot select special water and consequently cannot edit the corresponding row in the lookup.
I can think of a few long-winded ways to achieve the basic result, but nothing seems elegant....or fool proof
I had thought about a simple check box against the appropriate row in the lookup called "unlock" which would require a password to use. Once the password is entered, then it can remain open until the check box is clicked again whereby a password is required to "lock" it again
I have set a password under the permissions tab but all it does is protect the structure and not the content. I want all users to be able to view the file, but have to have the password to edit any of the sheets or data on the sheets. I can still protect the individual sheets, but that doesnt quite do what I want.
Some of my worksheets are permission protected. They will allow me only to view the sheets - No editing, copy, cut, sort, add filter, etc. Is there a way to hack this and copy data (including formating) into other / new worksheets?
Is there a way to protect the conditional formatting of accessible cells in a protected sheet.
Detail: I have a protected excel sheet. However some of the cells are made accessible so others (my secretary) can fill them up. The accessible cells have conditional formatting which become nonfunctional during pasting from other sources if "special paste" is not used.
I have a user form that has a combo box "City" two text boxes one called "Flight" and the other "Date". What I'm trying to do is to prevent the user from saving the data input from the user form if any of those three fields is left blank. The code that I have so far checks all of the required fields, if any are left blank a message notifys which field(s) is left blank and return the focus back to that field. But the rest of code also fires.
What I really need is either to stop the code if any fields are blank and return the focus back to the blank field, the user completes the field(s) and clicks the save again, or better yet, pause the code until all the required fields are completed and then complete the save. (There is actually another 200+ lines of code in this sub, but I deleted it to keep the post a little shorter.)
I am putting together a corporate document which requires many different peoples access. It also requires these people to update/comment within specific columns to them.
I am really struggling with editing the columns to ensure only these specific people can access them.
Essentially I want to the document to be accessed by everyone, but column A can only be edited by Person A, column B can only be edited by Person B etc.
I've used 'Allow Users to Edit Ranges' and added a new range with a specified person - but this has not cured the problem, other people can still edit the column I'm trying to prevent them to.
Is it a case of just 'allowing' the specific person, or do I also need to 'deny' absolutely every other person to ensure that it works?
I have a file I created which works fine for me, on my machine at least but there are two issues I'm trying to sort out.
The first issue is I need to share the file with others who may not have the same access rights. I have something loading in the Workbook_Open event which I want to bypass for users who do not have access to a specific folder. So I was trying to check their access using Dir(path) = "" at the top level folder to see if any files are present (which there are). My assumption was that if it finds files it's safe to assume they have permission and it's ok to continue, otherwise they don't in which case I want abort the rest of the code. This seems to work fine for me but I tried testing with someone I know does not have access and it gave her a compile error.
Part of the code in macro utilizes FileSystemObject which seems to be the line where the code bombs on my coworkers machine. The FSO seems related to appears related to the Microsoft Scripting Runtime reference, but it's not enabled on my machine or any of the others. I vaguely remember having to do something on my machine awhile back for the life of me don't remember what it was.
The second issue is an MS Forms error: "Could not load some objects because they are not available on this machine." appears when opening the file on three of the machines I tested but it does not appear on my machine. I've tried looking at the references and could not find any differences between the machines. I pored through various postings online and it appears it might be worth re-registering the DLL/OCX files but we need admin rights to do that so I will need to open a request with our support team.
I'm using VBA to query file information (path, name, size, dates, etc.) on files on a SharePoint site and returns them to Excel. I'm curious if also returning the document's permissions is possible. If not for the document, can one programmatically get the folder's permissions?
