Apr 6, 2013I have created a spreadsheet some time ago and have been asked to improve on it but I'm rusty with VBA.
I have an automated ordering system that saves each sent order as the date e.g "05-04-2013.xls" but the management team want a graph with the data for the last 4 weeks compared. I have created a seperate workbook called "consumables report.xls" which has a column with the products listed followed by columns "Quantity" and "cost" which is repeated for the 4 weeks of the month.
I want to add a button to prompt the user to choose the saved order e.g "05-04-2013.xls" (all orders saved in same directory) to copy and paste the quantity and cost columns (c8,D69) into "consumables report.xls". I got this to work earlier but it would only paste the formulas and not the values. So I need
A prompt to open workbook
Copy range (c8,d69)
Close work sheet
Paste special .value (c8,D69)
I dont care if it has to open the workbook to copy the data as this will only be used once a month so it dosnt matter how slow the code is.

I am trying to copy the emf image object from "Book1" into the "test" workbook whilst the test workbook is open and Book1 is closed. The code I have put together currently sort of works, I mean that it copies the text data over but does not copy the object which is what I require.

Aug 3, 2009I need to import the data from a specific sheet (same named sheet on all closed workbooks) to a sheet in an open workbook. All the columns are identical in every workbook but the number of rows is variable, so the data from each subsequent workbook must be appended to the end of the current data.
Whenever a button is pressed, this macro will clear the sheet, then import the data starting in A3. The workbooks are in different folders but they all have the same name, so some sort of explorer window will probably be needed to actually select each file.

However, what is happening is that the closed workbook is opened and only part of the data is pasted. What I would prefer to happen is this:
Open the closed workbook-->copy the named range-->paste(append) to next empty cell in column B.

Jan 4, 2010I am trying to open a stored file on a network drive (with the file location stored in cell E4). When I try to run the macro, I get an error message on Line 3. (Sheets(E4.Value).Activate)
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this, or have a better method to open the closed files?
I've read that it's possible to reference information from a closed sheet, but I don't think that I'm experienced enough in VBA to take on that effort yet.

This is in my July spreadsheet only. So is there a way to make it know which month spreadsheet to open on the 1st of the month? So come August 1st it will automatically open the August workbook and input the data for the first day? By using the date?
Function- List With The Choices OPEN, PENDING, CLOSED
Jan 9, 2009Column D has a list with the choices OPEN, PENDING, CLOSED. I want Column E to automatically enter the date when someone choose closed in Column D.
So in Cell E6. I wrote, IF(D6="Closed",Today(),"") . . . . .
It works, but wondering if E6 will keep changing the day every day to show the current day (bad) If so, how do it get it keep the closed date?

Dec 13, 2013I have an Excel file that contains formulas that reference external workbooks on a shared network. Each month, I copy the column of formulas over to the next month's column. Then, to update the file path, I highlight the new column and do a Find-and-Replace, swapping the previous month's name for the current month. This practice works fine. The only thing is ... the "Open File" promptbox appears for each formula where I updated the file path (i.e. and this can be hundreds instances!). I wind-up having to choose the file from the exact same file path. It is an unnecessary, and annoying extra step to take.

Cell A1 would be 01_032407, and I would replace [01_032407] with [A1]
but it does not work.
COUNTIF On A Closed Workbook
May 24, 2007I have the a COUNTIF function used on one workbook which refers to another workbook, however I get the result #value! unless the other workbook is open - this is even if I chose to update links when I fist open the file.
Do all workbooks have to be open when using COUNTIF?
If I open the other workbook after my workbook with the COUNTIFs on has been opened then all #value! errors disappear and the correwct info is shown.
