Macro Runtime Error?

Jul 16, 2014

I have a bug on a macro that was working until yesterday. I did not write this macro and I cannot seem to fix it. The debug stops at the below command. The data it looks at seems to be in the right format so I think there is something else that is wrong.

Set PTCache = ActiveWorkbook.PivotCaches.Add(SourceType:=xlDatabase, SourceData:=PRange)

Macro Runtime Error 9

Dec 7, 2007

I downloaded an excel file from a German student's site. With this file, it is possible to calculate very simply species turnover (I'm a biologist) activating a macro. When I run it, afetr answering lots of questions (which I think I answer well), it appears an "error run-time 9 - subscript out of range". In the download folder there were only two files: turnover.xls and instructions.pdf
Here is the code. The debug highlights the bold line.

Macro Runtime Error - Items (charts) Not Found

Oct 3, 2013

I've got an interactive chart on a sheet where users select a chart from a combo box control and a picture link to the chart is displayed. The actual charts are on a hidden sheet. I have to activate the charts first for it to work so I put a button the sheet and recorded a macro where I unhide the hidden sheet, select each chart as I scroll down the screen by clicking on it then hide the sheet again and return to the interactive chart.

My problem is that I'm getting an error when the macro tries to select the first chart which is called "Chart 6":

Run-time error '-2147024809 (80070057)':

The item with the specified name wasn't found

I recorded the macro so I'm not sure why the macro isn't working now.

Sub ResetCharts()
' ResetCharts Macro
' Reset all charts
Sheets("Budget v Actual Graphs").Select
Sheets("Graph BG").Visible = True
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 6").Activate
ActiveWindow.SmallScroll Down:=15
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 35").Activate

Excel 2010 :: Macro To Send Email Now Fails With Runtime Error 1004 - Mail System Failure

Aug 23, 2012

I've been using a macro successfully for the last couple of years, but this morning when I went to use it, it decided to fail. I have a workbook which contains various spreadsheets. The macro that has failed performs the following tasks:

1. It copies a list of email addresss from an external workbook to a sheet in the current workbook (still works)
2. It copies the referral sheet I want to send to a new file, and saves it with an appropriate filename to an appropriate folder (still works)
3. The macro then creates an email with a standard subject line, attaches the new worksheet and emails it to each of the addresses as above (broken)

The error message is from Microsoft Visual Basic. "Run-time error '1004': Mail system failure. Check your mail installation."

I'm guessing there is a setting somewhere in Excel that has changed as part of an update.

I've been through a number of the options in the developer menu to remove any obvious restrictions (& reopened excel afterwards), but so far it hasn't resolved the problem.

For what it's worth, here is the macro code.

With Application
.EnableEvents = False
.ScreenUpdating = False
End With
Run "PullInSheet1"
Dim oldbook As String

[Code] .......

In case you're wondering about the pullinsheet code, I'll add it below - but I probably grabbed it from this forum a couple of years ago (like some of the above) & just made some changes.

Sub PullInSheet1()
Dim AreaAddress As String
'''''' Sheet11.UsedRange.Clear
Dim ClRange As String

[Code] ........

There are a couple of things I've wanted to do to improve the macro, but I couldn't justify the need to spend time working it out (since writing spreadsheets isn't really my job). Since it's broken at the moment, I can...

1. I'd like to create a subject line that reflects the name of the person being referred. For some reason though, anything other than text in the cell reference caused an error for me. eg, I tried using concatenate to create my subject line, but it didn't work.

2. I'd like the copied sheet to contain all of the formatting of the original sheet. Presumably there is a paste option that will do this and I just picked the wrong one.

The mailsystem we use is Groupwise 8. I couldn't find any settings in that program that have been changed, or that I could change.

I should change the extension from xls to xlsx in the code since I'm using Excel 2010 (but changing it doesn't fix the problem).

Error In Runtime First Go, No Error In Debug Or Second Go

Jul 6, 2006

The code thats generating the error is the following:

For Y = 8 To 131
TmpDate = Empty
Range("A1").Value = "=" + Path + Sheet + "B" + CStr(Y)
TmpDate = Range("A1").Value

For Langd = 1 To Len(TmpDate)
TmpChar = Mid(TmpDate, Langd, 1)
If Not TmpChar = " " Then
TmpComp = TmpComp + TmpChar
End If
Next Langd

TmpDate = TmpComp
TmpComp = Empty

If Len(Dag) = 1 Then
Dag = "0" + CStr(Dag)
End If

Macro continues before the Next-statement...

(it might not be good programming, but I think it should work).
A little explanation to the code.
I have a spreadsheet located on the intranet that has values I need in my spreadsheet. These figures are sorted by date, so I search for the date to find the right figures.
The line Range("A1").Value = "=" + Path + Sheet + "B" + CStr(Y)
works prefectly. I can see the value in my spreadsheet in the cell A1. its the next line that causes the error "Type mismatch".
The value I get from the intranet spreadsheet looks similar to this:
"1 Jul 2006 " (note all the spaces).
What I do is just run it through a loop and cut of all spaces so it will look like this: "1Jul2006" to be sure I dont miss a space or anything.

Now to the funny part.
The error only happens at runtime on the first go.
If I chose to END the macro then and there, and then run it again from the top it works perfectly.
If I set a stopsign to debug the code, it works perfectly on the first go too.
Can anyone explain to me why that happens??

I know enough about programming to handle my syntax errors and so on, but I cant see anything wrong in this one...

Please note that this isnt the the entire code.
I'm building a report on 12 diffrent spreadsheet. The main macro is almost 2000 rows of code, and it call other Subs too (because of limitations in the VBA-editor. A macro cant to be too big), so its impossible for me to post the entire macro...
