Password Protected Macro Workbook - Remove Protection
Jun 6, 2014
In my office, our colleague locked his macros before he left. Now, I would like to continue in that but I have no idea, how to get into macro - to study it and change it as needed now.
How to open it?

I am trying to change a password on a workbook. I have already gone to encrypt document and changed the password. However, when I open the workbook again, my new password works but another popup shows and asks me for another password for write access. That second password was my original password, and I don't know how to change that.

I used VBA codes to apply different passwords for different worksheets in a single excel workbook. They worked fine. Then i applied a password to the VBA code itself through the VBA project properties. Also worked.
But my problem is that, if any one enters a wrong password to open any of the worksheets, the VBA will open an error message window and when "end" option is clicked, the VBA code will open without any prompt for the password.Thus the entire purpose is defeated.

Code:
Sub Open_Test_File()
Dim wb As Workbook
Set wb = Application.Workbooks.Open("DesktopTest File.xls")
End Sub
This very simple little code opens a new workbook.
But if I add a password to the file that I'm going to open the password box appears.
What do I need to add to this code to automatically input this password?
I have tried putting this at the end:
Code:
Password:="123"
but this does not work?

I have a master for each manager that pulls a few values from each of their employees personal sheets.
The personal sheets (about 30) are individually password protected so only the owners can open them.
This is creating a security issues as the links in the master require the passwords for each of the "source" workbooks.
Is there any way to add some code so that the passwords do not need to be entered each time?

My question is as follows:
I have two workbooks in the same folder on a shared drive. Workbook2 is linked to workbook1. I have protected Workbook1 with a password protected to limit access.
When my collegues who use workbook2 try to open it, it asks for the password for workbook1 before opening. When they ignore that and go a head to open the file. The new information from workbook1 is not updated into workbook2.
How can i mentain my password in workbook1, and keep the files linked such that they can be able to see the new information in workbook2 without knowing the password for workbook1.

I've got two files: the one that is the source file and the second one which is the target file. The target file is password protected (let us take the number 1 as the password in this case). I have a macro that would copy the value of an example cell to the target file:
Sub iso()
Dim wBook As Workbook
Range("A2").Activate
ActiveCell.Copy
On Error Resume Next
Set wBook = Workbooks("Test2.xls")
If wBook Is Nothing Then
ChDir "D:"
Set oWB = Workbooks.Open(Filename:="D: est2.xls")
to add a line (or two) to this code, that would open and unprotect the target file and then at the and protect the target file with the same password.

While my excel file is protected, I want to have a functionality that allows user to modify on certain areas (of the file), such as below:
1. After the user select number of years at the drop-down list (Main sheet), rows and columns at other related sheets will shift and hide certain values which corresponded from the drop-down list (e.g. if user selects 3 years, then at other sheets, rows from year 1 till 3 will be displayed, and rows for year 4 and year 5 will be hidden).
2. Users can add rows for entering new data at a new line and delete rows for deleting data at the correspond line.
This PC is using the Excel version 2000. At Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet, the available options are 'Content's, 'Objects' and 'Scenarios'. In order to allow users modifying rows/columns (while the file is protected), options such as 'Format Rows' and 'Format Columns' must be checked. But these options are only available in the later versions I believed.
After I have done macro recording for the protection properties at Excel version 2003 (my sister's PC), this is what I got for the .....

My macros are set up with hard-coded passwords to protect and unprotect the sheets where they run.
But I need a way for the macros to refer to a user-provided password without having the user edit the macos themselves. The simplist approach (I suppose) would be to have a worksheet for this with a cell for the user to enter the password he/she wants. The macro protect/unprotect code would then look at the cell to get the password.

I've 10 workbooks (which represent different areas around the factory) that populate a master workbook (belonging to HR).
We've now started to password protect the 10 workbooks. When i open the master workbook and click update - i get prompted to enter the passwords of the 10 workbooks
My question - is it possbile to automatically have the passwords entered so that the master can get updated?

I was handed a workbook that is password protected. The worksheets are not password protected. Because the workbook is protected, I cannot add or delete worksheets.
I figured that I could get around this by copying the worksheets to another workbook, but I can't even do that. Naturally, no one remembers what the password is.

I have written a macro to select a range of cells one by one and open the excel files mentioned in them and execute a task. It works fine. But I want the system to see if the file exists in its folder or if the file is password protected (for opening). Either of the case the file should be skipped without a warning message and any attempt to open. I need a macro for that. Following is the way the cell contents are
I:ORDERSS-S 10ALIYAMARKET ORDERSADDADD-LADIES-LEGGINGS-13246.xls
I:ORDERSS-S 10ALIYAMARKET ORDERSADDADD-LADIES-PANTS-13247.xls
I:ORDERSS-S 10ALIYAMARKET ORDERSADDADD-LADIES-SHORTS-13244.xls
I:ORDERSS-S 10MICHELLEGAMESWORLDWIDE COMPANYWORLDWIDE COMPANY - GAMES - 10014.xls
And following is the VBA code I wrote. It it almost stops when reaching a non-existing file name

I have a macro in a workbook (good start) as follows:
Sub UnhideSheets()
' Set to Auto Calc mode
With Application
.Calculation = xlAutomatic
End With
' Asks for a password (must be "unhider")
Dim mypass, response As String
mypass = Application.InputBox("This macro requires you to enter a password to proceed." & vbCrLf & "Please enter password below.")
' If password is correct
If LCase(mypass) = "unhider" Then
' Unhides all sheets
Dim i As Integer
For i = 1 To Sheets.Count
Sheets(i).Visible = True
Next i
' Then tells you that all is OK
response = MsgBox("All sheets unhidden", 0, "Macro run")
' Otherwise
Else
' Tells you that there is a problem (Unauthorised to continue)
response = MsgBox("Sorry, you are not authorised to use this macro.", 16, "Macro stopped")
' hides the sheet again
Sheets("BSG Only!").Visible = xlHidden
Sheets("CC07").Activate
' And ends the "if"
End If
End Sub
This unhides the "very hidden" sheets that make the book work and is password protected because I want to limit the people who can see this data.
What I would like to do, however, is call this macro remotely from another procedure in a separate book, which can only be accessed by those who are authorised to see the hidden data.
Essentially, then, my question is: "How do I call the protected procedure without the user having to enter the password each time, as they must be authorised to have access to the procedure that calls the protected procedure?"

I've had several goes at creating 2 macros to unlock and then lock the sheets (with my password). I've managed to create on that unlocks the sheets using the password but i can't get a macro to lock the sheets up again using the password.

I am having an issue with a macro to open password protected workbooks. The macro works just fine in opening the files and whatnot, but for some reason it prompts me to enter the password again once the file has been opened. Funny thing is I can either hit OK or hit Cancel and it goes to the next file. All files open correctly, I was just curious as to why this is happening and how to correct it?

I use the following piece of code to show/hide certain worksheets in a workbook. To access the hidden sheets, a command button runs the code. It works very well, except that the password is openly displayed in the message box (as opposed to returning asterisks for the typed characters).
Sub togglesheets()
Dim Ws As Worksheet
Dim strPassword As String
strPassword = InputBox("Enter Password")
If strPassword "Password" Then MsgBox "Wrong Password": Exit Sub
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
For Each Ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
If Ws.Name = "Apr-Sep" And Ws.Visible = xlSheetVisible Then
Ws.Visible = xlSheetVeryHidden
ElseIf Ws.Name = "Apr-Sep" And Ws.Visible = xlSheetVeryHidden Then
Ws.Visible = xlSheetVisible
End If..............

I have tried Tools/Options/Security Password to modify, but it can still be saved as a copy to the network which becomes very confusing to many. If I use Tools/Potect Sheet, I need to re-enter the password for all sheets twice. I am trying have it so that everyone is read only, select people can edit (with same password). Password protect all sheets and the workbook with the same password everytime when the workbook is closed
Basically 2 questions
1) Is there a way of remembering a password so that when the workbook is closed it and all sheets are automatically protected with the same password every time
2) Is it possible to have it not copied unless it is opened by an editor

I have a macro that needs to unprotect the sheet before it does what it needs to do. The sheet has a password (i.e. it is not just protected). the macro runs fine but when I go back to the sheet and try to unprotect it, no password is required. simply clicking on Unprotect works and I am nopt prompted for the password in the macro.
I realise that they are not the most secure things anyway but the people who are going to using this will mess around enough to try and unprotect the sheet but if they were to be promted for the password they would stop looking.

I have a spreadsheet that was given to me, which I used as a template. It already had password protection in it for each worksheet, and the macros are also written to unprotect before performing the actions, the re-protect at the end. Everything works fine except I cannot change the password. The thing is is that the password in the macro code is not the same as the actual password which you have to type in when unprotecting the worksheets.
For example the password in the code is "IPP" and the password you have to actually enter into the unprotect sheet box is "AAAABBBABBB&", yet all the macros still work like this. When I attempt to unprotect the sheet (with the AAAA... code) and re-write the password codes in the macros to say "###" then re-protect the sheet with the new password and run the macros it'll work fine, but when I save and close and then re-open the password required to unprotect the sheet reverts back to the "AAAABBB...." and then the macros stop working because the passwords don't match (even though they didn't match before!!!)
There is no encryption password or workbook password as far as I can tell, only the worksheet protection. Why cannot I no get the password changed?
