Prevent Automatic Date Format When Referencing Date Cell
Aug 1, 2008
I have been struggling with my Excel 07 Date format. Nearly every time I perform a calculation, enter in a value etc in a spreadsheet my answer is returned as a date. So for example if I enter in a cell: = 5 - 4. I get the answer "1-Jan-1900" instead of 1. I have to manually set the formats to general or number if I want the correct format. The setting seems to be the default one and occurs for all workbooks I open. What can I do to change this.
I have a table of data (total 142 rows). Column contains dates, in the format dd-mmm-yyyy.
I tried to filter using DATE FILTERS->EQUALS and in the custom filter window, I chose EQUALS then picked a date from the date picker icon. The date I picked was 5/4/2009 (this is May 4, 2009, formatted automaticall by excel as m/d/yyyy).
When I clicked OK, nothing showed up despite the fact that there are 6 occurences of May 4, 2009 (formatted as dd-mmm-yyyy in the data table)
So my questions are:
1. Is this due to the formatting?
2. Is there a way to change the date format supplied by the date picker?
I am trying to take the year from today's date then subtract away a date from a referenced date in a separate workbook. Then I want to put this result into an IF statement. For example if the result is between the number 1 and 4, display 1, if the result is between 5 and 9, display 2, etc. Right now, I'm simply trying to reference the separate workbook for the date and subtract that from today's date, but I'm stuck because I only get the date's serial number back.
I am trying to automatically capture and record the date of a cell's last change in value (date stamp). I have an item price list and if a particular cell gets updated I want to automatically record the date of change of that cell. I realize that after I change cell A1 I could tab to cell B1 and enter Ctrl+; but if I have a hundred new prices to enter I don't want to do that (plus me or the data entry person might forget).....
I copied the code that was used to inserting the date when the cell next to it was updated, the original post can be found here: [URL]
The Code below will check a range of cells between c3 and c20 and if I make a change to the value in any of them, then the cell to the right of them will have the date inserted. I've had to modify the original code from the other post a little bit to stop an error appearing when I insert a new Row:
[Code] ....
On the first example that was posted it all ran ok until until I attempted to insert a new Row, then it would put the date into about 5 of the cells to the right of where it should do and I received an error message with the usual Debug stuff on it. It would also delete my column descriptions that I had on Row 2.
Would it be possible for it to not auto insert the date on any new blank row that I insert?
What would be the correct range for me to get the code to work on c3:infinity....
Is it also only possible to enable macro's and code like this in the current document instead of every document that you load through excel.
I have a workbook with several sheets, each of which represents a client. At the bottom of this sheet, I have a call log to record the times that we attempted communication, left a message, etc. Since it's tedious enough as it is, I'd like to save my team 2 seconds and a slight bit of that tedium by having the date an attempt was made automatically recorded in the row where the attempt is entered.
Let's say this all takes place in A47:D47. For example, if I called the client on 7/15/08 and left a message, I would record who was called in B47, the name of the caller (me) in C47, and the result in D47. If possible, I would like to have the date of the attempt (today's date on the given day) entered in A47 upon the entry of information in B47:D47.
formula that can automatically use the current month date to extract information from other cells on my spreadsheet.
For example: This formula should be located in cell C6. Cells D6, F6, H6, J6, L6, N6, P6, R6, T6, V6, X6, and Z6 (these cells correspond to the months of the year, January to December respectively) contain the values I need. The month names are labeled above in row five.
Let's say the current month is March, I need the formula in C6 to automatically know that it is the month of March and to pull the information from cell H6 (which is the March cell). Then when April comes along, it will know that it is April and to only pull the information from cell J6; and so on until the end of the year.
I've got an issue where Formulas Referencing Cells on another sheet are getting changed automatically to refer the the moved cell data. The formulas on a sheet (2) refer to specific cells on sheet (1) within my workbook. I update Sheet(1) data with a macro. When sheet (1) updates, the present data gets shifted to the right.
In other words, I need to prevent the formulas from changing to reference the moved data values and keep referencing the initial cell with the new values. xample of change that occurs with update:
I have a series of worksheets, named, 'sheet1' 'sheet2' etc. through to 'sheet10'. A final worksheet, 'sheet11' has been produced that uses the formula: address=Sheet1!A1, address=Sheet2!A1, address =Sheet3!A1 etc. The same goes for other identical cells on each of the sheets. I am at the moment entering each cell on 'sheet 11' separately because if I copy the formula down it progressively changes the cell value and not the sheet number. How can I produce a formula whereby the cells remain identical but the sheets change progressively?
I have a spread sheet with a date colume that reads: 2012-06-27-19 I need to have this read like 06/27/2012 but nothing I do is working I have tried to go to the formatting process and backing the hr:mm out and that doesn't work. I really don't want to go line by line to manually correct this issue.. HENCE ... over 2000 lines
Second question: If I have a column that reads 02/15/2012 and another column that reads 3/27/2012 how to a format a 3rd column to make it read total number of days between 1st date and 2nd date?
I have a column in excel which gets populated in the format "2/1/1980" when copied from a different source. I want a macro to run on this column and convert this in the below format. Required format: '02-01-80 (note the ' symbol before 02 which will keep it as text)
I need this macro to run on two columns and replace them with the required format. I can do a find and replace either in the sheet or through hard coding the VBA, but as the date format keeps growing, I would need to do this via code and hence requesting the same.
I'm using nested SUBSTITUTE formula to make some changes to the some of the data. I'm also using IFERROR to return the input if it does not find the criteria I have specified. I have lot of variations in my input data.
The formula works fine for all except for date format input.
Sample:
N90232Y09--->SUBSTITUTE(A1,"N","")-->90232Y09 12335--->12335 12/3/1923---->58936 (I want the date to be retained)
why the date format is changed even if don't specify any changes for it. I expect my IFERROR to just retain the input as it is.
I have a program that exports the date as 20120621 (4 digit year, 2 digit month, 2 digit day). I have tried =datevalue(cell) but it returns #value!. I have tried =today()-(cell) and it also returns #value!. Is there a formula or something I can do to covert this field to a date?
I have a couple of columns, once edited need to update a table in SQL. This is my code
[Code] .....
However it is not taking UK date formats, it is assuming it is an american format, I get conversion of varchar data type to datetime results in an out-of-range value. What should I add to change the format? The format is in UK on the spreadsheet seemingly....
I'm in the military and for maintenance we use the Julian date the format goes as follows "09357" that is simplified as 09 = the year and 357= the three hundred and fifty seventh day of the year. so 09357= 12,23,2009..
so on to my question:
how can i make excel auto convert the julian date to the regular date and vice versa?
I have two cells. Cell A1 contains ‘The date is ’ cell B1 is formatted in the date format, 2007-01-24. I need to concatenate these two cells so that on cell C1 I have ‘The date is 2007-01-24’ but whatever I try excel keeps on changing the date to a text value and hence I am left with: ‘The date is ‘This is the date'39141 or this is the date 39141. how to get to the result that I am after?
I've created a group of user forms used for recording jobs and displaying details of jobs and have come up against a problem I think you may be able to help me with.
When the user creates a new record, I've written some code to stamp txtdate text box with the current system date and this information is then copied onto a sheet called Data into a specific column.
This part works fine and as the column is formatted to handle dates it displays fine.
However, when I pull the data back in, it displays the date as the serial number date, not formatted as dd/mm/yy. I've tried every fix I can find to sort this but none of them seem to work.
The idea is that the user selects a job number from combobox1 and then the appropriate column is pulled into each txt box on the form.
At the same time, I'm trying to do the same for the system time as well. Unsurprisingly I have a very similar problem here and use the same code as above. I've tried formatting both date and time txt boxes in the userform, the data transfer code etc etc with no success.
I have a dataset where the dates are in the following format:
19970803 = 3rd August 1997 (YYYYMMDD)
My aim is to sort the data into months and into 'turn of the month' periods.
-Is there a way to isolate rows using a search term like "****08**" for all the august entries? -Likewise if i want data between 27th-3rd for every month is there a way to sort for entries between "******27 - *******03".
I have the code below working as I want it to, when data is input in column 2 the date and time is automatically input into the corresponding cell 3 columns to the right. I want to ensure that the date is changed to the UK format dd-mmm-yy. I have formatted the column to be in that format but for some reason it has suddenly started changing the date to US format. Can this code be changed to force the date to be in UK format?
I am having trouble with formating a to date. I have ~5,000 lines of data that are formatted as follows: the last 6 digits refer to date. For example, below line should be date 09/24/09. PRIVATEBANK 3.65%09PRIVATE 3.65%09 PRIVATEBK&TR 3.65 092409. I am using the right function to isolate the date. In cell A2:
I have a worksheet where in a column, dates are stored in various date format i.e. it may be DMY or MDY or YMD.
08-06-12
08-06-12
08-07-12
08-07-12
13/08/2012
13/08/2012
13/08/2012
14/08/2012
Above is just for an example, above dates are for the month of August, but as can been some cells are in MDY formate and some in DMY. Can I have formula to convert different date formats into one date format?
In the formula bar, these formated dates appear as 11/1/2008.
What I need to do is copy the formated dates and paste them into another column so that they show up as November 1, 2008 or 1 novembre 2008 and not as 11/1/2008.
Does anyone know of a non-macro formula or function that can do this? Is there a "paste as is" function?
