Proper Way To Replace And Delete Embedded Object?

Oct 25, 2012

what I am doing is running a parameter query. Based on the users selection it pulls in and embeds a pdf file based on a link put into cell A1. The problem is when the user selects another file. My current process deletes all of the oleobjects on the page (because I couldnt figure out how to just delete this pdf embedded object as it is named differently each time it is pulled in) My current process worked fine up until I needed to add some controls (radio buttons) now when it loads the next file it deletes the radio buttons. Is there a way to name this embedded pdf file so that I can then delete only that object? or is there a fundamental better way to handle this?

below is the section in question

Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim KeyCells As Range
Set KeyCells = Range("A1")
If Not Application.Intersect(KeyCells, Range(Target.Address)) _
Is Nothing Then
Dim wsh As Worksheet
For Each wsh In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
wsh.OLEObjects.Delete
Next wsh
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 0).Range("j1").Select
ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add(Filename:=Range("a1").Value, Link:= _
False, DisplayAsIcon:=False).Select

Hyperlink To Embedded Object

Mar 28, 2008

I'm using Excel 2003 and have a spreadsheet that I want to distribute to a handful of people around the globe.

I want some cells in the page to link to various PDF files which I need to distribute with the worksheet.

I can embed the PDF files no problem, but I need each link to the embedded objects to take up no more vertical space than one row of text (without an Icon) - ie I need to be able to access the object through a "hyperlink style" item.

I can't figure out how to do this, as the hyperlink function does not seem to permit linking to embedded objects.

Setup: I have a ppt presentation with several MS excel worksheet objects embedded.

Goal: I am trying to write a macro in ppt which opens an embedded object, then once it is open applies an existing excel macro that is in my personal excel book.

The code from ppt "record a macro" stops at ActiveWindow.Selection.SlideRange.Shapes("Object 8").Select
ActiveWindow.Selection.ShapeRange.OLEFormat.DoVerb Index:=1

How can i let it know that the active window is an excel sheet? and if i get there, can i run a macro once in?

I have embeded a PDF file in an Excel Worksheet. When I double-click to open the PDF file the I get an error message: "Cannot start the source application for this object." However, the pdf file opens anyway. how to prevent the error message from displaying (without stopping real error messages)? (...happens in Excel 2000 and Excel 2003) NB: I researched this site first - user "Ed" raised the same issue 27/1/03 - but it doesn't appear to have been resloved.

Proper Syntax To Delete Non-contiguous Rows

Nov 11, 2009

I am drawing a complete blank. If in a macro I have determined and built a string list of non-contiguous rows that need to be deleted (e.g. rows 3, 5, and 7) from a range of rows named "Prices", what would be the correct syntax?

For example, I know it isn't..

Prices("3:3", "5:5", "7:7").Rows.Delete
because this gives me a "Type Mismatch".

Add And Delete / Modify PDF Object At Runtime (VBA)

Mar 20, 2014

On sheet1, I have a list of items with the path to a PDF file. When the user select a item, I need the PDF to open on sheet2 and print the Sheet. this is the part I've done so far...

But if the user click on a new item, I need to replace the previous pdf open on sheet2, this is where I'm stuck.

To open the PDF, I do as follow :

Sheet2.OLEObjects.Add Filename:="c: empsample.pdf", Link:=False, DisplayAsIcon:=False, Left:=40, Top:=550, Width:=150, Height:=10

How can I name this file so I may delete later? EX :

Sheet2.Shapes("Object 12").Delete

for this I need to know the name of the inserted shape.

Batch Find And Replace (Delete Row)?

Aug 11, 2014

I have an excel spreadsheet with a list of numbers in column A. These are all "random" numbers in that they don't follow an order, but they mean something elsewhere.

The rest of the columns have other information that is related to the number in the same row.

I have another list of random numbers which is much smaller than the original, but all of the numbers on the smaller list (which is in a different excel document but can easily be put in its own column) are in the larger list as well..

I want to compare the two lists, and if the number from the smaller list is found on the larger list, I want the entire row deleted and all the remaining cells shifted up. I do not want any blank rows between the data.

Column Taking Way Too Long To Delete Or Replace?

Jul 21, 2014

I have a data range with just under 100,000 lines by about 60 columns. In one of the final columns I used the formula =IF(COUNTIF($A$2:A2,A2)=1,1,0) in order to set a flag the first time that each unique value in Column A appears. (I know about the remove duplicates function but the data was sorted in a certain order and I needed information specifically from the first row in which each unique value appears.) The formula works - it's not very quick, but it works.

The issue I'm encountering though is that now I want to remove that formula so it doesn't keep recalculating and every technique I use either takes forever or stalls Excel entirely. I've seen the same issue in two different spreadsheets where I used the same technique. Techniques I've tried: selecting and deleting the entire column, copying and pasting values over the formula, Selecting all the cells and pressing delete, copying and pasting an empty cell over them, Selecting and cutting and pasting the cells to another workbook. I've done these while disabling automatic recalculation and even turning off Data Filtering. I just can't understand why a simple delete operation should take so long, it shouldn't matter what is in the cell because all I want to do is delete it.

Object Library Invalid Or Contains References To Object Definitions

Jan 17, 2005

I'm getting the following error:

"Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found"

I wasn't getting that error last night and I'm not sure what I may have done to cause this error.

It seems to be cause by code running on one sheet of my workbook, but I'm not really sure about that. I'm still a bit of a novice at VBA.

I'm using Excel 2002 SP3 and I'm running MS XP Home as my OS.

Do you have any ideas what can cause this error and/or how to trace down the offending objects/code?

So i need a formula that can work out their total pay. Im not sure what i could put in a dummy document to help you since it would just be one cell for their hourly wage, one for their hours worked and then one for the calculation. so you can reference any cell as an example and assume Ł6 as hourly rate

Proper Filtering

Jun 4, 2009

Is there a way to filter my data with the combobox and have the listbox reference the filtered data directly?

I am populating a listbox from a rowsource, housed in a sheet in my workbook, the sheet in my workbook is populated from another sheet that is filtered by a combobox selection and pasted to the sheet with the rowsource range.

My listbox is a multiselect with 5 colums and columnheads, named ListBox42

The sheet with the data to be filtered is named Building Material

Building Material is filtered in column “M” with a color

With ComboBox24 selected name: Names “M1” which activates the color down the column for filtering.

The ComboBox24
Private Sub ComboBox24_Change()

Worksheets("BuildingMaterial").Range("M1").Value = ComboBox24.Value
Sheets("BuildingMaterial").Select
ActiveSheet.Range("$M$1:$M$4247").AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:=RGB(0, _
176, 240), Operator:=xlFilterCellColor
Sheets("matfilter").Cells.ClearContents
Sheets("BuildingMaterial").Select
Range("B1:F4249").Copy
Sheets("matfilter").Select
Range("A1").Select
ActiveSheet.Paste
Sheets("BuildingMaterial").Select
ActiveSheet.Range("$M$1:$M$4247").AutoFilter Field:=1
Application.CutCopyMode = False
Sheets("matfilter").Select
ActiveWindow.ScrollWorkbookTabs Position:=xlFirst
Sheets("Tom").Select

End Sub

My RowSource is a defined name “=matfilter!$A$2:$E$4230 “
