In the picture I've highlighted the formula I use to determine how many games each team has over the next 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. What I've been doing is deleting the column for each day after that day has passed. (So tomorrow, I'll delete column K, and all the other days will move up one. Sunday will become column K)
My problem is that the formula =7-COUNTIF($K3:$Q3,"—") in cell G3 will read =7-COUNTIF($K3:$P3,"—") after I have deleted Saturday, and thus will only count 6 days worth. (The 14, 21 and 28 columns will only count 13, 20 and 27 as well.) Is there any way I can write this formula so that it stays as K3:Q3? Right now each day I modify the 4 formulas for the 1st team and then copy/paste then over the other 30, but this is rather tedious.
I do a weekly report for my employer. We have our tabs conditionally formatted. We then insert the corresponding arrows to show a trend to the weekly variance. After the week is up I will delete a column and add a column to the end (making it a trended view) and move the arrows by selecting and dragging all of them into its respected week. I then go on to delete several arrows throughout the worksheet. For some reason my file continues to grow in size however I am only keeping a 12 week trend. The arrows are not deleting properly and are sitting in the background, where I cannot see them. I know this bc I did "find & Select" and chose selection pane. I was wondering how I can resolve this problem or maybe delete just certain columns of arrows (objects)? I had 61,000 arrows and shouldn't have more than a couple 1,000.

I couldn't think of anything but wanted to double check.
I've got the following vba code: (not sure if im in the right forum? )
ActiveWorkbook.FollowHyperlink Address:="http://blah/blah/blah/Pipeline Submissions/" & CountryOnly & "/" & useronly & "/Published Reports" & "/Pipeline_" & DateOnly & ".xls"
And use this to open country workbooks in turn, and get the info out of each and paste into one big, 'consolidated' report. This is all done in a loop.
My question is, how can I stop the dialog box that comes up asking a user to OK the opening of the file? I used to have workbooks.open("\....") way of doing it and turned off display alerts, but I had to change due to moving server, and now I've got it popping up again.
Is there any way to stop it (or an alternative way of opening)- as if you have 7 or so message boxes like this is quite annoying.
We have created a macro that basically looks for rows that contain an "H" and hides the row if it does.
Users can add new rows throughtout the year to this spreadsheet. and based on certain criteria, an H or U will be placed in a hidden column which the macro looks at and hides any row it finds an H.
The user has to click on the button that has the macro assigned to it once they have finished working on the spreadsheet.
The problem we're finding is that for users who insert/delete rows, once they click the button it takes up to 15 seconds to run through macro (which is ok). However, users who haven't added or deleted any rows and who click the button, they have to wait upto 5 minutes (which isn't ok) for the macro ro run.
We can't figure out why the macro takes longer to run when no changes have been made?
I have a code that creates a zipped file that saves to the desktop. The macro works fine except it repeats itself and doesn't stop. How can I change the following code so that it only creates one zipped file?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a little problem working with some CSV files that are sent to us by an outside party. There is a field for an invoice number. This number should be a string since it sometimes has alpha characters and sometimes has dashes. But the field is not delimited to indicate this, so when opening these files in Excel, Excel will sometimes convert the numbers to dates. Once they are converted to dates, there is no going back.
The way we have gotten around this is to change the csv extension to txt, then open as a txt file and convert that particular column to a text column. This causes a lot of additional work as the file ultimately needs to be converted back to a CSV.
Ideally, the people creating the CSV files should create them so the invoices column is properly delimited. But that doesn't seem to be possible right now.
Is there a way to create a macro that would make the modification while opening the CSV file, before Excel has a chance to modify those fields?
I have workbook that has questions on column K and L that NEED to be answered. When the user closes the spreadsheet I need the macro to create a pop up that says "unfinished Workbook"
So I need a macro that tells the user to finish answering the questions on K and L -
I already have a macro that on opening the workbook checks to see if the workbook has been renamed outside excel in windows and if so closes the workbook. I need a macro to intercept the save as command and prevent the user from saving the workbook as another name. I would however still like the user to be able to save. I would also like them to be able to save the workbook in another directory but only with the same workbook name.

I have been trying to get rid of the "File In Use" message for the other users since they only need a read only copy. I am the only one who needs to know if it is in use because I will make changes to the workbook tools and have to save them.
I have set the Save As preferences so that it requires a password for modification and checked the read only checkbox. But that dialog box is popping up for the users. I am trying to eliminate any file in use dialog box for users other than myself.
Here is my workbook open procedure...

Set wBook = Workbooks("Excel_Tools.xls")
When opening a .CSV created from a third party software, one of the columns is converted to date format. The numbers are imported in #/# format. and Excel changes most of the numbers to 2-Jan, 3-Jan etc... This would not be that big of an issue if I could simply set it back. Clearing format or changing to text converts it to a 5 digit number.
The only way I have found to get it to work properly thus far is to open a blank sheet and import data and setting the column to text prior to import.
I would like to find a way of opening the CSV file without all the extra steps. Is there a setting that can be turned off?
I'm working on a sheet which references a sheet in another workbook. I want to refer to the other workbook simply by it's filename (Forecast.xls) but whenever I save and reopen Excel has replaced the filename with the full path (C:Documents and SettingskoconnorMy DocumentsAuto-sheet project[Forecast.xls])
This is quite inconvinient as I am eventually going to want to move both workbooks together to a different location. Is there a way to make Excel stop working out full file paths and just look for the filename in whichever folder the active sheet is sitting in?
I have a template excel file that is loaded with macros. When the file is opened, a userform opens and the user makes several different selections. Based on the selections, the excel file is populated with information and pictures. I want to make sure that the user does not accidentally save over the template file when he/she is finished with the document.
My original solution was: when the user opened the excel file, it would automatically save under a different name in a temporary location. This would stop the user from being able to overwrite the source file. The users were not happy because the excel file is very large and takes a long time to save.
on another method to stop the user from overwriting the source file? using code? or another method?
When opening a CSV file in Excel, it seems Excel makes an "intelligent" attempt at interpreting the data into a data type.
This causes a text field containing 7300070E-4 to be interpreted as 7.30E+0
my excel sheet runs through a lot of calculations, opens Flowmaster, a simulations program, passes on data, receivs data and so on. Is there any way to have a user input to stop the whole simulation. During the first tries I had a lot of break point in my debugger. View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to catch if the user has deleted a row. There is a need to know when a row is deleted and what the data was in that row. So, what I'm trying to do if a row is deleted is to undo the action and then change the font of all data in that row to have the strikethrough effect. This will enable others looking at the workbook to know that the information in the row existed but is no longer relevent.
So, the code is something like this:If row deleted Then
Application.Undo
Target.Font.Strikethrough = True

I'm not sure what it's called, but in a workbook that was sent to me, when a cell is selected a text box appears with instructions in them. This is not a normal comment and I found that I cannot select it, right click it, or anything to delete them. They can be annoying as they cover up other data when the cell is selected.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded a macro which came with it's own button on it's own toolbar. (I can't remember the developer, but it's called Multihide and simplifies the hiding and unhiding of worksheets).
Now, I've copied the button onto my own toolbar, and tried deleting the toolbar (by the usual method - Cursor over toolbar, R-Click, Customise, highlight toolbar name, delete) which came with the macro, and although it at first looks as though it's gone, when I next restart Excel, it's there again. I find I can't delete the button from the toolbar either, nor delete the whole toolbar.
