I have a code that creates a zipped file that saves to the desktop. The macro works fine except it repeats itself and doesn't stop. How can I change the following code so that it only creates one zipped file?
Code: Sub WhichButton() Dim strDate As String, SavePath As String, sFName As String Dim oApp As Object, iCtr As Long, I As Integer
I have been sent a file that has been zipped. I am trying to open it so that I can see all the data. So I have extracted it and opened it in EXCEL my problem is that I get an error message 'File not loaded Completely' and I am only able to view 65 536 (the max records) in my EXCEL doc but I need to see the rest of the file. Does anyone know how I can do this?
Is it possible to save/send a workbook to compressed zipped folder by vba. Using standard windows zip method (refer right click file option). As all users will have this feature, as i dont want to use a thrid party zip app.
So i and other users can automate zip of workbook into an email via macro.
my excel sheet runs through a lot of calculations, opens Flowmaster, a simulations program, passes on data, receivs data and so on. Is there any way to have a user input to stop the whole simulation. During the first tries I had a lot of break point in my debugger. But now I want to have a button to hit or better just some keys to hit to stop it without using the ctrl+alt+del which closes everything.
I want to create a macro that will “open the look in list” and stop so I can pick a file to open. I’ve tried to use “record a macro” and “ctrl-o”, but the record a macro won’t stop until I pick a file or cancel the file list. I also tried to use “o” in the short cut key box
i get the error messagebox: title bar " compressed (zipped) folders error" "cannot copy a compressed (zipped) folder onto itself" with only the OK button
I have an Excel workbook that I do not want deleted. Is there any VBA code I can do to the document to stop this from happening? which Ic ould turn on/off?
And use this to open country workbooks in turn, and get the info out of each and paste into one big, 'consolidated' report. This is all done in a loop.
My question is, how can I stop the dialog box that comes up asking a user to OK the opening of the file? I used to have workbooks.open("\....") way of doing it and turned off display alerts, but I had to change due to moving server, and now I've got it popping up again.
Is there any way to stop it (or an alternative way of opening)- as if you have 7 or so message boxes like this is quite annoying.
I'm having a little problem working with some CSV files that are sent to us by an outside party. There is a field for an invoice number. This number should be a string since it sometimes has alpha characters and sometimes has dashes. But the field is not delimited to indicate this, so when opening these files in Excel, Excel will sometimes convert the numbers to dates. Once they are converted to dates, there is no going back.
The way we have gotten around this is to change the csv extension to txt, then open as a txt file and convert that particular column to a text column. This causes a lot of additional work as the file ultimately needs to be converted back to a CSV.
Ideally, the people creating the CSV files should create them so the invoices column is properly delimited. But that doesn't seem to be possible right now.
Is there a way to create a macro that would make the modification while opening the CSV file, before Excel has a chance to modify those fields?
I have workbook that has questions on column K and L that NEED to be answered. When the user closes the spreadsheet I need the macro to create a pop up that says "unfinished Workbook"
So I need a macro that tells the user to finish answering the questions on K and L -
I already have a macro that on opening the workbook checks to see if the workbook has been renamed outside excel in windows and if so closes the workbook. I need a macro to intercept the save as command and prevent the user from saving the workbook as another name. I would however still like the user to be able to save. I would also like them to be able to save the workbook in another directory but only with the same workbook name.
To have other users open a workbook on the network without having to click button to open it as read only.
I have been trying to get rid of the "File In Use" message for the other users since they only need a read only copy. I am the only one who needs to know if it is in use because I will make changes to the workbook tools and have to save them.
I have set the Save As preferences so that it requires a password for modification and checked the read only checkbox. But that dialog box is popping up for the users. I am trying to eliminate any file in use dialog box for users other than myself.
Here is my workbook open procedure...
Private Sub Workbook_open()
Dim wBook As Workbook Dim UsrName As String
UsrName = Environ("username") On Error Resume Next Set wBook = Workbooks("Excel_Tools.xls")
When opening a .CSV created from a third party software, one of the columns is converted to date format. The numbers are imported in #/# format. and Excel changes most of the numbers to 2-Jan, 3-Jan etc... This would not be that big of an issue if I could simply set it back. Clearing format or changing to text converts it to a 5 digit number.
The only way I have found to get it to work properly thus far is to open a blank sheet and import data and setting the column to text prior to import.
I would like to find a way of opening the CSV file without all the extra steps. Is there a setting that can be turned off?
I'm working on a sheet which references a sheet in another workbook. I want to refer to the other workbook simply by it's filename (Forecast.xls) but whenever I save and reopen Excel has replaced the filename with the full path (C:Documents and SettingskoconnorMy DocumentsAuto-sheet project[Forecast.xls])
This is quite inconvinient as I am eventually going to want to move both workbooks together to a different location. Is there a way to make Excel stop working out full file paths and just look for the filename in whichever folder the active sheet is sitting in?
I have a template excel file that is loaded with macros. When the file is opened, a userform opens and the user makes several different selections. Based on the selections, the excel file is populated with information and pictures. I want to make sure that the user does not accidentally save over the template file when he/she is finished with the document.
My original solution was: when the user opened the excel file, it would automatically save under a different name in a temporary location. This would stop the user from being able to overwrite the source file. The users were not happy because the excel file is very large and takes a long time to save.
on another method to stop the user from overwriting the source file? using code? or another method?
i need to make a button that Immidiately stops all macro's, Or (and This will maby be little more difficult) Stop all macros on a specific time inserted in 1 cell
the macro's that i want to stop running, are all single macro's which i activate with only 1 button i created.
i like something like this:
if "A1"(this is the cell where i have my updated clock) == A2 (the time i insert here stops the macro's at this time) do stop Macro's
If you run it now, ctrl t, it produces letters and changes alphabets as it hits a yellow box. If i change or add a yellow box, the letters change fine. The macro works perfectly, but instead of inputting the range or K3 to what ever, i would like to to run this macro and stop once it sees the row with the sort number of 4. ( this changes row postion depending on which sheet im working on, this is the problem).
I have a spreadsheet containing a macro to automatically sum values from week to week and display the max/min and average. This is almost fully working. The problem I have is the macro copies the sum formula down the page and doesn't stop at the last row. It always adds one or two extra rows. The formula should stop at row 77 however this does not happen and therefore the sum keeps going. Which in turn, distorts the max/min figures.
I'm trying to create a macro to input information into a cell then repeat until the information stops.
So say I have 10 rows of information that fill up A1:D10. in E1:E10 I'd like a macro to insert some data into E1 then go to E2 and do the same until the end and then stop. So since A11:D11 would be blank the formula would just stop.
I actually work on 100's of cells a day and this is for a bigger project I'm trying to put together or I would just drag.
I have got he below code in "thisworkbook" it works fine but I have a problem with it if it has been closed before the time expires. If it is closed it tries to reopen it and then close it again. So for my users who have got their security set to prompts the file will be closed and a message box appears saying "enable or disable Macros". If it is already closed than i dont really want this to happen. My security is set to low but i still see it flash up and the bottom then dissappear again. How can i get the Macro to stop if it has already beed closed??
Private Sub Workbook_Open() Sheets("database").Select Range("au16").Select Application.OnTime Now + TimeValue("00:15:00"), "TimeOut" If ThisWorkbook.ReadOnly Then MsgBox ("The file is currently being used by another user, please contact them to ensure they have not left the file open.") ActiveWorkbook.Close SaveChanges:=False End If End Sub
Sub TimeOut() ThisWorkbook.Close SaveChanges:=True End Sub
I am running a macro that populates the same chart with variable data. I have approximately 40 sets of data and wish to pause or stop the macro to view one of the sets of data more closely. The pause option would be better but Stop option is acceptable
I have macros that often pause for the user to take some action -- for instance, to confirm that the correct cells are selected, or to delete something. Usually I use the "Stop" command, which opens the VBA editor; when I finish doing the manual action, I just resume the macro.
When writing macros for actual users, I'd like to do the same thing without their having to deal with the VBA window. Is there a way to pause and resume action and remain in the Excel window?
I did not want to bother you again but I have a problem that I can not solve it because my knowledge in vba etc, are limited and could not become to find with Macro Recorder.Usually I solve the problems on my own by searching on Google and experimenting with ready Macros and Macro Recorder.
I have an excel file with a macro and I want before this macro launched, to run another macro that can check if the headers have the correct name and in its correct position. The headers is in first Row.
If are not in the correct position or if it doesn't exist or if not have the correct name, then the process of the next macro be stopped and of course be informed that there is a problem. But if Is everything okay, then proceed to the next macro and be informed that Is everything okay.
I have attached a Sample file with the headers i'm using.
