Unable To Delete Or Edit Comments
Feb 9, 2009
I have a comment which I wish to edit, but I am unable to either edit or delete the comment. I have checked the 'shared workbook', 'shared worksheet', and 'protected cell' options and they are all turned off (never had them on).
The cell I have the comment on has a dropdown box, but I can't see that being a problem. I am able to add a comment, which I can edit and delete, but the original comment seems to be 'stuck'.

I am using a lot of double click routines in my sheet. In order for the sheet to be more user friendly I have used the comments of cells to tell the user what to do. For instance "Double click to choose type" or some such. Everything works great except that after the user selects what they want from the userform and it hides and the focus comes back to the sheet, the comment is in edit mode. While this is not horrible it is not as nice as I would like. I have tried to have my code send the active cell to another cell and then back, but that doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep the comments from going into edit mode?

I need to have users be able to modify notes to various pre-set comments on a protected sheet, however I do not want to have them be able to move the comment box (shape)...

I try to edit comments in cells of a certain column and nothing happens. I am able to edit other comments throughout the spreadsheet, but when I select "edit comments" for these particular cells, no edit box is displayed for editing. It worked fine a couple of weeks ago.

I need the macro I created to run (when assigned to a button) in specific sheets in the workbook, additionally if the workbook is saved under a different name by the user, the macro will continue to work. There are 10 sheets. I need it to run in sheets 6-10, when the button is clicked in sheet 5.
Then end goal in mind is to assign this macro to a button, so the user ,when ready ,can click the button to produce the results.
Background & Current Results :
My macro is simply an advance auto filter that copies the filtered data from sheet 3 to sheets 6-10 (non-unique values).
When applied per sheet , it works . When I modify the macro (I've tried several ways based on info published here) , the best result i can get is the data copies 6 times in the same page ( whatever active sheet is selected.). I have not assigned the modified macro to any buttons, why bother if I can't get it to run in the 1st place .
I suspect I need to redo the whole thing to have it simply copy the filtered data repeatedly to sheets 6-10 , but I am not that savvy to figure that out .
My Current Macro that Works Per Sheet
Sub tcktoriginal()
'
' tcktorginal Macro
' macro to run tickets
'
Range("F4").Select
Range("cpt.code.table.").AdvancedFilter Action:=xlFilterCopy, CriteriaRange _
:=Range("A1:S3"), CopyToRange:=Range("A11:S11"), Unique:=False
Range("F5").Select
End Sub
Examples That I have Tried and Didn’t Work ........................

I'd prefer to edit links with the source workbook open, however I receive this error when I do "A formula in this worksheet contains one or more invalid references." I am able to edit links with the source workbook closed but this takes far too much time to be satisfied with that as the solution. I have used vlookup formulas and the index-match method and they both take about the same amount of time to update. I've separated each worksheet and used the "name manager" add-in and have searched all links for any type of error. I feel like I'm missing something. Is there a way to fix this "invalid reference" error so that I can edit my links with the source workbook open?

I am having trouble writing a macro to do the following. Someone had created a spreadsheet a while back that highlighted the cell green and inserted a comment with the person's name and date/time if they changed anything in that cell. The macro works great, but I need a macro to undo the changes.
I would like a macro that will remove all comments from the sheet and revert the cells back to their original color. Since the cells encompass many colors, at the very least, I would like the macro to remove the comments and make the cells the default shading (white).

I created comments to be shown when drop down list items are selected using the helper cell and workbook change solution from Leith Ross at the thread below.

This works perfectly to show the comments. What I'd now like to do is delete the comment if the content of the cell is deleted.

I'm attempt to automatically validate QTP spreadsheets with an EXCEL VBA macro. All is going well but I now want to look smarter. Is there a method to globally remove all comments from a worksheet?: D What I actually want to do is add comments to cells which fail validation but some of these cells may already contain comments. If they do contain comments then I want to overwrite with my comments. I thought the easiest way would be to delete all comments at the start of macro but I am all ears to any other approach.

I'm trying to delete images from an excel spreadsheet. She had imported several Red "X" symbols and placed them at the bottom of the spreadsheet so that she could click and drag them to various spots on the spreadsheet when needed.
Well, now wants several of the "X" symbols to be erased...the problem is that they won't simply delete and when I click to drag them they stay in the same place and give me a duplicate to drag.

I've accidentally created over 1 million rows across several sheets which has sent my file size over 35mb.
I desperately need to delete these and cannot find any way of doing so.
They were created through macros copying columns and pasting them elsewhere, although I'm not sure how they decided that 4-800 rows of data was worth a million rows.
Can anyone offer a solution that doesn't entail making a new sheet and rewriting all the forumula's in it?

I have a worksheet with what appears to be symbols or text boxes; squares, some with a check mark in them, some without. cannot select any of them to edit or delete them, I can type in the cell behind the symbol, the symbol hides the text. I can copy and paste them, but not delete them. how to identify them to edit and/or delete them. Password protection and all cells are unlocked as well. I have stumped as well as other forums.

Sub Delete_0_Rows()
'Assumes the list has a heading.
Dim i As Integer
For i = Cells(65536, 1).End(xlUp).Row To 5 Step -1
If Cells(i, 1) = "0" Then
Range(Cells(i, 1), Cells(i, 1).Offset(-2, 0)).EntireRow.Delete
End If
Next
End Sub
I have data in the first 50 rows.
Then in row 51 it column A it starts 0's.
I run the macro, it deletes all the rows with 0's, and it deletes row 50 also some reason. I do not understand the above macro very good to edit it, and the fact it contains 5 1's doesnt help me lol

I'm on mac Excel 2010 and i'm trying to delete rows..but for some reason they don't go! My workbook is a basic one, just filled with a bunch of formulas, i can't understand why it wont let me delete it.
When i do try to delete it, nothing comes happens and when i try to delete a large amount it comes up with 'not enough memory, continue without undo deleting rows' but my laptop has 8GB and my other laptop has 16GB so i can't see why a 16GB laptop wouldn't be able to delete it.

Using two Combo Boxes, I am trying to create an drop down outline form input sheet.
What it does is if you select the first selection in the combo box 1, then it hides certain rows, and deletes certain cells. If you select the second option in the combo box 1, it shows another combo box (2) which has another list of categories.
When I select the option 2 on the combo box 1, it unhides a bunch of rows, and activates combo box 2. However, when I try to select categories on combo box 2, each time it tries to hide/unhide rows I get this message "Unable to set the hidden property of the range class." I have no idea whats going on.

Just recently My Excel 2010 has decided to not let me right click to format cells, delete or insert rows. I can do these functions from the ribbon, but not via right click. this happens in both existing spreadsheets where I am the author, or even a brand new spreadsheet like in the image below. we have restarted the computer, Uninstall and reinstalled Office and still get same symptoms. I got here thru google but cannot find an answer anywhere.
I am very computer literate and even our IT personnel have looked at this with no answer. as you can see in the image, these options are greyed out.

How would you prevent the copy/paste of cells that have comments?
Also, how would you allow cells with comments to be copied and pasted without pasting the comments?
I also have an aside question about the forum advanced search. When searching for multiple search words, how would you type the search to include all words, for example, "prevent" & "paste" & "comments".

I know that you can add a comment to a cell using a statement like
Range("A1").AddComment "Hello"
But is it possible to add more text to that comment using VBA?
I tried things like
Range("A1").AddComment "Hello."
Range("A1").Comment = Range("A1").Comment + " How are you?"
but I guess I can't alter the comment that way.

I was wondering if there was a way to add comments (that you see in spreadsheets) on a userform in vb editor. So that when you run the form and the user moves the mouse over a textbox then it displays the comment.

I am sure this can be done - I found a similar thread but in a different context to what I need.
I have a user of a workbook who insists on putting irritating red cornered comments in cells, rather than using the handy (and rather large) comments field I put in, especially for her.

For each cell, instead using a comment, I need another way to show a large amount of principaly letter texts, without using hypervincules, and ofcourse comments.
By the way, the same text I enter or modify put in this "way", I need to modify in the MSWord document and viceversa.
I appreciate the linking do not open another app, because the large amount of them I need to work with.

I have a sub that works just fine, but I need to test it for blanks.
Sub AddToComment()
Dim rCell As Range
Dim cCom As Comment
Sheets("Support Detail").Select
With Range("e5")
.ClearComments
Set cCom = .AddComment
End With
Sheets("Sheet1").Select
For Each rCell In Range("a4:a23")
cCom.Text Text:=rCell.Text & " " & cCom.Text
Next rCell
End Sub
I only have 1 line of test in the a4:a23 range - so I'm getting 19 spaces before the text in the comment. If the cells within a4:a23 are blank, how do I ignore them? I'm not sure how to interpret this code, so I'm sure it's probably easy:
cCom.Text Text:=rCell.Text & " " & cCom.Text

I have an excel worksheet which has a lot of comments attached to individual cells. Is there a way to convert these comments into a microsft word document along with the contents of the cells to identify where they originated? Also Is it possible to convert just a selection of cells into word document rather than the whole worksheet.

I have a workbook that I received from a vendor that when I click in a cell a comment appears. There is no line or comment indicator for each comment. So I went into the tools - options - views - comments section and chose no comments. The comments still appear and when I go to the tool bar - view - comments nothing appears. I checked for any VBA code and didn't see anything. I was able to get around this problem by copy/paste special into a new worksheet, but curiosity is killing this cat.

I must have something turned on or off but for thwe life of me I cannot figure out what it is. I can see the comments on the screen but when I go to print preview they are not there.
