Code For Gray And White Rows

Dec 29, 2006

I have a spreadsheet where the user wants gray and white lines to occur starting from row 36. Meaning row 36 is grey row 37 white 38 grey etc. to make it look like old accounting paper. The problem is there is a macro that runs to hide the zeros so I cannot preformat the rows because they will change along with the worksheet. Also, the coloring should stop when there is nothing more in the rows, usually around row 100.

Dotted Gray Lines Around Cells In Worksheet

Jan 11, 2010

I'm working on a worksheet that another person started. For some reason there are dotted gray lines around every single cell in the print area in the print preview (no idea what this person did or who this person is, so I can't ask them). Anyhow, I need to get rid of these dotted gray lines. Clicking on no borders does not work.

Want Whole Row To Shade Gray When Drop Down Item In Row = "completed"

Jul 16, 2009

I have a a worksheet with a drop down menu in one column to show various completion status options (Not started, In progress and Completed). I was able to use conditional formatting to change the color of the cell to gray when I choose "completed" from the drop down menu, but I would like the whole row in view (about 8 cells across) to shade to gray when I choose "completed" from the drop down - not just the completed cell. I'm thinking an IF statement would work, but I don't know how to use an IF statement to shade a range of cells a color.

Extract Numerical Data

if it is possible to create a formula to just extract numerical data. It is formated in text or sometimes general format.

Example

John Doe - 1202939402093
109230920933 - Jane Doe

Is there such a formula that will read the cell, and extract the numerical part of the cell and place it in another cell?

Formula To Extract Numbers From Alpha Numerical Entry

Jan 8, 2014

I have a sheet with thousands of rows of ID's which are made up of a series of letters, numbers, underscores and or spaces. Within the sheet there are numerous duplicates so I need to able extract the numerical element, which is the key data to be able to identify the duplicates.

The numbers I need to extract are mainly 6 and 7 digits long however don't always sit in the same place within the ID. I don't need the 3 digit number sequences, just the 6 & 7 number sequences

e.g

AB_123_456789_Jones
CD_131_7654321_Smith
AB_123_Jones_456789

I've found a formula that strips out all the numbers, however it also included the 3 digit numbers which I don't want. I've also used Text To Columns to break up the ID across a number of columns however that leaves me with 2 and sometimes 3 columns where a 6 digit ID appears

Is there a simple way to extract the number if it's a certain length? i.e. 6 or 7 digits long

Calculate Screen Pixel Position Of Cell AA1

Jul 7, 2014

I have an image overlapping a range of cells. I want this code to scan the pixel at the center of the cell, find out what color it is, and set the entire cell to that color, for each cell. Unfortunately with the GetPixel function I have to specify the x and y coordinates in terms of pixels from the top left corner of my monitor. The "CurrentCell.left & CurrentCell.top" method is not giving me the right location (Should start at cell AA1). If you would like, open up the file, go to sheet 2, insert an image, and click "Generate Field from Image". I set the cursor to follow the current position so you can see that it is selecting pixels from the corner of my monitor rather than cell AA1. Is there a way I can calculate the screen position of the top left of cell AA1?

Rank Values Into Top/Bottom X Scale

May 21, 2008

I am creating a Power Poll Spreadsheet for a Fantasy Football League, and I need to create a code that will take the win/loss columns and in a new column assign rankings so that the team with the most wins gets ranked '1st', then '2nd' etc. I'd like it to, in the case of a tie, rank both teams equally 'the 3rd and 4th best teams both have identical records, so both get ranked '3rd' and the '4th' ranking gets skipped.

I have searched for a formula to allow this, and I can't find it. Can anyone help? As an aside, is anyone aware of a place I can find a listing of formulas that can be used in sports ranking, etc?

.MinimumScale = Target.Value
Case "$AH$7"
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 2").Chart.Axes(xlValue) _
.MajorUnit = Target.Value

However, I have some of the cells setup as formulas....but worksheet_change apparently only updates values when manually changed.

Turn Off Error Alert When Using Zero Values In A Logarithmic Scale

May 26, 2006

I'm creating several dozen charts all using Logarithmic Scale and while I know you aren't supposed to provide Zero values in the source data this is one project where that can't be helped. My problem is that the Excel Alert keeps popping up to tell me I shouldn't use zeros and it keeps crashing my sheet because it pops up every 10 seconds or so.

My question is: Is there any way to turn off an Excel Error Alert? OR Is there any value I can place in those cells (other than Zero or One) that would stop that troublesome alert from popping up? Just for reference, this is the alert: MICROSOFT EXCEL

Negative or zero values cannot be plotted correctly on log charts. Only positive values can be interpreted on a logarithmic scale. To correct the problem, do one of the following: * Enter only positive values (greater than zero) int he cells used to create the chart. * In the chart, click the axis you want to change. On the Format menu, click Selected Axis. Click the Scale tab, and then clear the Logarithmic Scale check box.

Auto Numerical Values

Jul 25, 2009

creating functions in excel and would like to hire someone who can assist me in creating the following functions: Column A (For Numerical Values Less Than or = to 100): Column B Value should be (+10)

Example 1: If a numerical value of 90 is placed in Column A then Column B Numerical Auto Value should be 80+10 (190). Example 2: If a numerical value of 35 is placed in column A then Column B Numerical Auto Value should be 35+10 (45) and so on. Another important point is that if the values in column A are copy and pasted Column B should automatically discharge the values visibly as the examples stated above is this possible? If not i'll need to have this done.

Also there are other numerical values that must be added in Column A (basically for every increase in numerical value of 100 there are to be different numerical plus factors in accordance to Column A). Column A (For Numerical Values greater than 100 but less than 200): Column B Value should be (+15).......

Assigning Numerical Values To Words

Mar 9, 2013

I'm making a spreadsheet for the homes I'm looking at purchasing and wanted a way to calculate automatically which one has the most things we're looking for.

So for example, if a home has a walk in closet, it would say "yes". If it doesn't it obviously would say "no".

Is there a way to assign a number value in a totals column where "yes"=1 and "no"=2?

Or a way to make colors equal a certain value?

Where I'd make all the "yes" items green and then a green cell = 1, a yellow cell = 2, and a red cell = 3.

Conditional Sum From Matrix With Non Numerical Values

Feb 27, 2012

I am trying to conditionally sum numbers from a matrix. On the vertical axis, there will be duplicate values (text) who's rows should be summed, and on the horizontal axis I need to sum in between two numbers that will be in sequential order (such as dates). The real tough part for me is that the data field that I will be summing from has non numerical values, like dashes. Obviously, I don't want to sum the dashes, but it throws off any formulas I have tried (like sum arrays).

My hopes are to use as little memory as possible so my file size wont get too big and to not have to use macros (I do not really use them), although I am willing to try if they are basic.

In the example below, I want to sum rows for the letter "A" and in between numbers "2" and "4."

# 1 2 3 4 5
A2 6 5 4 2
B4 5 6 4 1
C-----
A4 2 1 2 1
E1 1 2 2 2

Y Variable: A
X Variable Min: 2
X Variable Max: 4

Correct Result = 20.00 = (6+5+4+2+1+2)

Remove Symbol From Numerical Values And Add?

Mar 19, 2013

I often have to OCR files in Adobe and then copy the data as a table into Excel. Sometimes when I move the data over these little boxes with question marks inside will appear infront of the data in the cells. I can delete the square from the spell by just backspacing after it but I don't want to have to do that for hundreds of cells individually. Googling around I found a formula: =RIGHT(A1, LEN(A1)-1)

That formula will get rid of the box, once the box is removed I need to be able SUM the values, but I am still unable to. I've tried to copy and paste the values before using the SUM function but that does not work, I've also tried to SUM before removing the box but that does not work either. I've found that if I double click in the cells after using the formula that it will allow me to use the SUM function but that would require me to double click hundreds of cells individually. Also, just in case this matters, a little green flag appears in the upper left corner of the affected cells after I use the previously mentioned formula.

Summary Of Numerical Values, Based On Several Conditions

Oct 16, 2008

I am trying to do is a summary of numerical values, based on several conditions.

column a column b column c
local loop live cross connect
loop A cancel 100
long haul live 10000
long haul pend canc 1000
loop Z live 100
x-conn live cross connect

In column a, i have several choices and i want to focus on those choices that fall into column B "live" or "pend canc" and then only have numerical data in column C

I've tried several different formulas like

=SUMPRODUCT((a30:a38="Loop A")*(a30:a38="Long Haul")+(b30:b38="Live"),cX30:cX38)

I know the result of this should be 111000 but it's not working...I usually get n/a. I know about using cntl-shift-enter to use the formula properly.

I can get one variable to sum up properly using =SUMIF(M9:M21,"Live",BW9:BW21)

but, that leaves out anything that is pend-canc

I have also tried =SUM(IF((a9:a21="long haul")*(b9:b21="live"),cX9:cX21)) which gives back a value that is accurate.....

Find Numerical Difference Between Text Values

Nov 21, 2008

Hi all, first post here.
I've been asked to do something in excel i can't seem to get my head around.

My client provides me with data in the form

1c, 1b, 1a, 2c, 2b, 2a, 3c etc... where 1a is the lowest.

I need to find a way of working out the difference between these, e.g.
edit: 2a - 1c = 5

I've been working on it and have made some headway by splitting these with MID function and then using CODE to try and work out a unique ID for each, but i can't help feeling there's an easier way!
