I am unable to change the date format in a column of dates. The cells have values that look like the following: 4/29/2013 8:59:12 AM. I want to change these to YYYY-MM-DD format, but no matter what I try the format will not change.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to move the data from sheet1 column A to sheet2 column A while reformatting the data from its current format (dd/mm/yyyy) to format (mm/dd/yyyy). The data from sheet1 is provided to me by a client and is produced daily through their system which they have told me they cannot change the formatting on the reports. When i try to move data from sheet1 to sheet2 and reformat it only half the data formats into the correct date format. does anyone know how to get the data from sheet1 to format and move to sheet2 properly?

I have a database of roughly 9000 rows. My first sheet is this data in a raw format (Masterdata!). Each row is a fire-rescue response call and therfore has a time stamp. The raw data uses different formats to provide the time stamp. My second sheet is my filtered data (Filtereddata!). In order to make these time stamps uniform I have a formula that looks at the Masterdata! timestamp column and if it is in a numeric format changes it to a text date and if it is a text date perserves it.
=IF(ISNUMBER(Masterdata!K:K),TEXT(Masterdata!K:K,"dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm"),Masterdata!K:K)
This gives me the "timestamp" which has both the incident start time and the date. I have =left and =right formulas breaking apart the date and the time. Therefore I have two columns on my Filtereddata! for the date of the incident and the time the call came in. What I would like to do is run some pivot tables and group incidents by month. I am unable to group them once I run the pivot table. I get a "Unable to group these items" (or something like this) message. I have assured multiple times that the date column is in DATE format. However, when I change the date to long date or short date I see no changes in the column so I am assuming there is something happening that I'm missing. The formula populating the date column on Filtereddata! is as such:

I have a some dates in a format which are not being converted into the normal date format. So i made this formula to convert it into the normal date format:

I have a table of data (total 142 rows). Column contains dates, in the format dd-mmm-yyyy.
I tried to filter using DATE FILTERS->EQUALS and in the custom filter window, I chose EQUALS then picked a date from the date picker icon. The date I picked was 5/4/2009 (this is May 4, 2009, formatted automaticall by excel as m/d/yyyy).
When I clicked OK, nothing showed up despite the fact that there are 6 occurences of May 4, 2009 (formatted as dd-mmm-yyyy in the data table)
So my questions are:
1. Is this due to the formatting?
2. Is there a way to change the date format supplied by the date picker?
I have created a userform but I am having extensive problems with the date formats.
My system is set to UK and short date is set to: DD/MM/YYYY
When I used code to add the values in the userform to the spreadsheet, any that contained a date format would revert to the US format.

However, my formula in excel deals with dates and times in the format mmddyyyy and hhmm. How do I change the values of the dates to exclude the "/" and the times to exclude the ":" operators?
I want to change the actual value of the cell too. Basically, using custom format mmddyyyy in the date column will not work (because the true value of the date will still yield mm/dd/yyyy.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an excel sheet full of dates in text format and want to convert them into regular format. For instance, one of the dates listed is in text as "60801". I'd like it to show in regular date format of mm/dd/yyyy, so that 60801 becomes 8/1/2006.
I am in strange situation where I have a data with Invoice Dates. These dates are in Text. However, when I convert it into reall excel dates. For some reason the dates do not come right. convert my text dates into excel real dates. I did a lot of google search and apply these three methods but all of these gave me strange result I was not expecting. These are the methods I used and the result of each method.
Method 1 : Using Text to Column Wizard (Excel 2007)
I highlighted invoice column and went into text to column wizard. I clikced on Date button, and selected MDY format. Strangely enough, my result was day, month and year i.e. DMY which does not seem right.
Then I press Control ~ on this data as shown in second view.

2nd Method - Using formula to convert text date to real dates When I used formula, I get the following result. As you can see, formula is converting text dates into different system dates than the first method.Further strange things is when I take these system dates i.e. 4283 and in 2007 excel format use "Short Date" the same system date gets converted into wrong year as shown in the second view.

Similarly, I tried other methods or copying blanks etch but none seems to convert text dates into real (system dates).
I have txtboxes in which I write date in format dd/mm/yyyy but if I want to put date in cell correctly from this textbox in need to declare event on exit -change format to mm/dd/yyyy and then it puts date in desired format which is dd/mm/yyyy and my regional settings are English(uk)
Is there a way to put any date format in textbox and in cell there will always be format dd/mm/yyyy or at least if date is entered in format dd/mm/yyyy that also in cell the same format is putted

I am parsing a string which contains (European) dates:
"10/08/2005,11/08/2005,12/08/2005,13/08/2005,14/08/2005,".
When broken into individual cells, dates before the 13th of the month are recognised as "American" dates and display as "08/10/2005", "08/11/2005", 08/12/2005" etc. with automatic date format. Dates from the 13th onwards are left in general format as "13/08/2005", "14/08/2005".
I have written a macro that converts each date individually to its correct Excel serial number, but I can't help thinking that there must be a simpler way, and that I cannot be the first to have asked this!
I am using a CSV that has the date in Column A in the format of DD/MM/YYYY. When I open this CSV using a VBA comand the Format of the Cells in this col are then formated as either Date or General. The general format happends when the date cant be turned into US format and when it can then the date is turned US and displayd as such.
SO
14- Sep = 14/09/2007 as General
10- Sep = 09/10/2007 as Date
Im in Australia so the correct format is DD/MM/YYYY. Microsoft has issued a fix for this using Local:=True in the file open comand which is all good and well as it works unless you have office 2000 when it crashes. What would be the best way of fixing this, so that the Dates are all correct or the col is all the same format?

My dates are coming up in serial format even though I have the cells formatted to date. It doesn't matter which date format I select they all remain as serial dates.

when I do Format Cell, the date formats offered use US formats like 20/02/1999. Why does it do this, and can I fix it? I suspect that this the root of the following problem.
I have a button on a userform to enter today's date into a textbox. It enters it as 05/27/2009. The wrong format. I save the data to the worksheet, then use the data form to go to the next record, then back. The date then appears in the correct format as 27/05/2009.
Another related problem: if I enter a date manually into the textbox on the dataform, such as 2/3/2008, it interprets it as Feb. 3, and when I save it to the worksheet, and then use the form to view it, it comes out as 3/2/2008.
In column M, i have a long series of times (times of day) which are currently formatted as "1654", "1021", "1628", etc. In column AI, i need to reformat those dates to look like: "00:00:00.000"

I am facing a problem with number formats. I have downloaded some data from a database. In the data, there are some date columns in MM/DD/YYYY format. In a seperate workbook, I have copied that data as values.
Now when I am trying to change the formats of the dates to d-mmm-yy, they don't change. The formats are not not changing to any other format. I even tried changing the formats using VBA, but it did not work.
I have a file that I want to change the format for my date field. Currently the cells are in general format. How can I put them into a date format. Example the first one is 20070328, how can I make this 03/08/2007?

....
....
Ultimately what I am interested in doing is writing a macro (and saving it in its own file) that can be run on any excel spreadsheet that will change the dates to be formatted the same: MM/DD/YYYY
The issue is that a date written as 10/10/27 would need to be changed to 10/10/1927 (so adding the 19).
I have a column which contains User ID's, the user ID is created by our local IT and is composed of three letters and two numbers, my issue is that excel recognizes some of the ID's as dates i.e. Jul-25 when the user ID should be jul25. When I change the column to "Text" then the user ID become numeric... how can I change the date format "Jul-25" to Alphanumeric format as "jul25"?
