List All The Combinations Of A Group Of Cells Containing Letters, But Not Numbers
Feb 9, 2008I have 7 cells containing strings but not numbers on a row.
Now I want to list out all the combinations of drawing out 3 cells out of these 7 cells while the remaining cells that haven't been drawn out could also be listed out one column next to the drawn cells.
For example, I got 7 cells like this.
A B C D E F G (each letter in ONE cell)
And I want to list out all the combinations like this:
ABC DEFG
ABD CEFG
ABE CDFG
ABF CDEG
etc.
For more details, please refer to the attached sample (an .xls file being zipped).

Aug 3, 2009Can this be done in Excel? Using the digits 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 create all the permutations/combinations with limits on some of the digits. The digits 0,7,8,9 can only be used a max of 3 times in any one permutation/combination, digits 2,3,4,5,6 can only be used 4 time in any one permutaion/combination, producing a 5-digit string.
Example of expected results.

May 25, 2007I have found this very challenging, and have really confused my self on how to systematically approach this. I have the user enter the value in the black highlight boxes, some subtraction produces a base value, the user may also enter the tolerance of the working value (base value), effectivlly giving rise to a small range to generate the permutations from.
What I would like to do then is find all permutations of the inventory (letters in the sheet) with their corresponding values right above them to the small range determined via the user (working value and tolerance). There are also quantity limits for each item. There four basic rules that need to be adhered to:
1) Permutation can't have both S and PP, so one or the other
2) Sum of H and HN must be greater or equal to sum of S and PP
3) H or HN or both must be present, so their sum cannot be zero
4) If HN is less than or equal to 2, and H is greater than 2, then NA and NG must equal 0.

Jan 27, 2012I have a spreadsheet wtih a number of rows that contain answers to different criertia in each column.
The row may therefore have cells that either have numbers or letters.
Column A will be the title of the row.
I want to write a function to find the average value of the numbers in any row with title 'x'.
So it would look down column A, and look for those called 'x', and then average all the numbers across all those rows.
I have tried to use =averageif, but I think the fact there are letters in the cells being assessed (which I just want to be ignored) creates an error.

I want to know how I would write/format a spreadsheet that would tell me what are all the possible outcomes between the two numbers and what the components of these two numbers would be.
For example.
(8 * .32) + (3 * .33) = 3.55
So somewhere I would be able to see that in order to achieve 3.55 I need (8) .32 stamps and (3).33 stamps

Example
Column A contains : 1,2,3

Right now the formula will work with T, TP, and P; however as soon as I type TPE I get #value.

Jan 23, 2014I am a school teacher trying to adjust my tracking sheet to calculate pupils levels. I am looking for 2 potential formulas that will do the following.
1 - In cell AE I would like to generate a formula that will take the data entered in cells J:5, L:5, N:5, P:5, R:5, T:5, V:5, X:5, Z:5, AB:5 and AD:5 and give an average level.
2 - In cell AH is it possible to generate a formula that will calculate how many levels of progress the pupils are making - In other words I need Cell I to be calculated against cell J to see how much progress the pupils are making - for example if in cell I:5, a pupil is was given a 3a, and then in cell J:5 is given a 4b, they will have made 2 sub levels of progress. As well as this, can that progress then be averaged out across cells I:5, K:5, L:5, M:5, O:5, Q:5, S:5, U:5, W:5, Y:5, AA:5 and AC:5 to give an overall number of of levels of progress? An then..... can I colour co-ordinate the cell so that if the pupils are making 3 or more sub levels of progress it turns green, 2 sub levels orange and 1 sub level red?
