I have a spreadsheet that ranks the 500 components of the S&p 500 on an ongoing intraday basis. I would like to have the sheet sorted automatically as it is updated. I have very limited VB skills. Also, I heard there is a feature on excel 2007 that performs this function.

This list will be constantly growning is there a way to constantally sort these into numerical numbers lowest first? The data would be on coloum B the other sort range would be in coloum a.

I'm trying to write one macro that filters a set of data based on 2 criteria and then automatically sorts the filtered data by date. The filter works fine but when I then try to write code that handles the automatic sort, I get the following message when I run the macro: "Run-Time Error 1004: the sort reference is not valid. Make sure that it's within the data you want to sort, and the first Sort By box isn't the same or blank."
I realize it would only take one or two more clicks to sort this data manully after the macro is run, but the lazy person in me is trying to eliminate this step. Does anybody have any suggestions as to why the sort is not working? I parsed basic sorting code, but it hasn't worked. The other part of this that is causing me trouble is that the number of filtered rows will vary, so I'm only needing to sort the visible range.
I would like to set the automatic rolling month when i select month at dropdown list and this will show at C5 and need to cell at the right hand side auto change month to Jul, Aug, ... Dec, Jan, Feb.
and at left handside show the previous month.

I don't want to do it manually every time I change some value; I want it to do automatically; so if I change, for example, Erick's points from 60 to 10 in Sheet 1, Erick should appear on the last place in Sheet 2, with his new value (10)

I need a function/macro that will find all rows that have a specified value in column A and extract selected columns to a new spreadsheet. More, I need it to do it for every value in column A.
I would also like it to skip creation of new worksheet if value in selected row and column is null.*
I've been trying to combat this problem with advanced filters, which helped, but due to size of the data and range of values in column A it takes an entire day to process manually. Because the data is exported to another program after it's processed, it can't stay in the same sheet, also, linking back to the original sheet doesn't work because the data changes all the time.
I would like to ask for some assistance to my Spreadsheet problem.
To illustrate my problem please see below:

I need to have a formula to automate the adding of outline numbers from "Level 1, Sublevel 1, Item 1..." So that if I deleted or added a row, the rest will automatically update themselves.
I will be the one manually inputing the Top Level and Sublevels I just need that the Items will be automatically added and computed basing from the previous level.
What I am planning to do is:
1. Check previous cell if the format has two decimal points or periods --> kinda stuck here
2. If there's only one then it will be the Sublevel 1 Item 1 (or depending to its location)
3. If there's already two periods "." then it will compute automatically for what item it is already.

1.1.2----->Checks the previous cell if it has 2 decimal places then if it does then it will add 1
a way, without using a macro, to have a specific column automatically sort data being pulled in from another column, so that even if the data from the initial column gets changed, that the destination column will take that change into effect and update the sort automatically?
View 9 Replies View Related I am building a country ranking model which ranks several different macroeconomic indicators and applies a weighting to each of the indicators. I have an overall ranking column which is an average of all the ranks. The problem is whenever I change any of the individual indicator's weighting it obviously affects the country's overall ranking. Is there a way that the model can automatically "re-sort" the overall rankings without me having to manually click on the sort by smallest to largest filter each time?
PS I'm using Excel 2007.
I have a Ranking tab that has the persons name, weeks, months that subtotal into 2 columns, MTD and YTD. I have set up with 2 Macros to sort based on two columns based on their selection of MTD or YTD.
What I did not take into consideration is if a person was added at the bottom of the list.
Is there a way to modify this to include rows that may be added?

I currently have two tables in one worksheet showing the sales of different region.
The problem is, when I sort the data in the table (I can't used the named ranges as it should exclude the first row which is the header), is there a way I can make it dynamic too??

I'm trying to write a code to sort a variable-sized data range on several sheets. A sql query populates several sheets with data in N rows, where N varies based on query parameters).
I get a run-time error on the .sort command (method range of object global failed). i think this has to do with sorting by the same column on multiple sheets and haven't been able to debug it myself.

am working on a spreadsheet that requires sorting a list of names and numbers. The numbers have a sum formula attached. I can set up the macro to sort the list fine by selecting the appropriate cells and creating the macro.

However, I want the macro to still be able to sort the data when I add new rows to the list later on. In other words, the code above in bold somehow needs to be modified so that "H13" extends as far down as needed.
I need to create a BOTH box that will dynamically pull names from both the "Chicago Office" & "Seattle Office" columns in my sheet. It is extremely preferable to do this without VB Script if possible to avoid the security warnings on opening the sheet. (Our IT department will not budge on this..)
Detail:
I have two lists of employees. Column A lists the Chicago Office employees. Column B lists the Seattle Office employees. I've been able to successfully define named ranges to work with these as dynamic lists. I can append names, or delete names, and the Chicago, or Seattle boxes (drop downs created with data validation formulas inside named ranges) will reflect the updated names correctly. I have been unable to make a single drop down with all the names from both offices, that is updated dynamically. I've attached a sheet so that this is easier to understand. Basically I need the "BOTH" drop down to actually work.
The Chicago range is defined as:
=OFFSET(Sheet1!$A$2:$A$11,0,0, COUNTA(Sheet1!$A$2:$A$11),1)
The Seattle range is defined as:
=OFFSET(Sheet1!$B$2:$B$11,0,0,COUNTA(Sheet1!$B$2:$B$11),1)
In the boxes on the right of the lists, I just have a Data Validation List formula as:
=Chicago and the other as =Seattle
I have a list of letting agents that I need to sort into a table to import into Access. The list is dynamic in that not all the fields are present for every record. I will have over 4000 records to sort out, so I would really like to automate this. If possible the macro should read rows from the data worksheet and write to columns and rows on the Table worksheet. I have attached a small example of the data and output required. To make it a little more challenging the column header name is part of the data and will need stripping out as well.

Essentially i get a Runtime 5 error on the bold bit of code....
I am trying to define a range .... by using thexlUp function find the last row ( which works ) i then pass this variable into the sort code and get the error its probably very simple to fix, all it does i sort columnA but finds the last cell .... instead of the whole column,,,,

Im sorting a dynamic range as mentioned in this Sorting a Named Range. My range is called drWarningTypes and is defined as:

When there is only one cell in the range, then running the following sort function includes A1 also in the search (and also adjoining columns).....
I have a list in rows where I have a ranking formula =COUNT($G$5:$G$81)-(RANK(G5,$G$5:$G$81)+ COUNTIF($G$5:G5,G5)-1)+1 When I sort the rank, ascending. All of the unique numbers sort ascending, but the non-unique numbers sort descending

I have a range which will change in size & in content, & I want this to be a Named Range at whatever size it is.
Reason I want to is because I want to make a Validation List with this dynamic range. I also want a Validation list which lists the content of 2 or more dynamic ranges which may or may not be on the same worksheet - is this possible?
i.e.
First dynamic range: called "Milestones" at A11
Second dynamic range: called "Activities" at A25
& make a Validation list that will list content of both
Is it possible to make excel sort ascending or descending but from mid way through alphabet and then loop through the alphabet again. for example. If Cell A1 had "A" in, it would sort as normal.

If Cell A1 had "C" in, it would sort from "C" through the alphabet and then loop to the start of the alphabet as shown below.

I would like to replace the blue bit of this Dynamic Named Range (DNR) with an INDIRECT formula in order to modify the starting point for the DNR: =OFFSET(DATA!$C$60,0,0,20,1). Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get my INDIRECT formula to work in order to use it to replace the blue bit above: INDIRECT("'"DATA"'!&ADDRESS(MATCH('SHEET1'!AC8,DATA_Date,0)+22,3)"). The orange bit of the formula above returns a value of 60, therefore the ADDRESS formula should return $C$60, that can then feed into the INDIRECT and act as the equivalent of DATA!$C$60. But it doesn’t.

is there any way i can setup a macro to do this for me? i tried recording the macro but it just is recording me choosing the column FRNAME is in. This does not work for me since FRNAME end up being in different columns all the time but will always be in row 1.
I have a question on the above but can't seem to find a solution. There are two ways that I can find for dealing with dynamic lists via data validation:-
1) Offset and match, cavet being the data must be sorted a-z
2) Have lists for each potential selection
Is there any way to get around 1 without having to do 2? E.g. Got two columns of data, unsorted, and a list from which the user can choose from. The user chooses from the list in first cell, in the second cell require the dynamic list to return all the values accordingly?
I have a dynamic table which is linked to a couple of charts. The table must remain dynamic.
I needed to add two new columns to the table, "Focus Area" and "Category". I need a drop down list in the "Category" column to be dependent on the item selected from a drop down menu in "Focus Area".
I can get the first row of the dynamic table to do this.... however; subsequent rows all lock the drop down list in the "Category" column to the same choices regardless of what is chosen in the "Focus Area" list.
Is there a way to make dynamic drop downs within a dynamic table?
I would like to ask if it is possible to sort a range of row? What I mean is, if I sort like Row 1, the entire block of row 1 will move as well? Like if i have column A to F, then row 1 of column A to F will move together at the same time.
