Delete Modules From Multiple Files

Dec 6, 2006

I have several organized folders which contain contain, in total, hundreads of files all created from the same master file. The Master file contains several macros used to sort and organize data copied from our engineering database (web-based).

After a file is created the macro is no longer needed. I am looking for some direction on how to go about opening and saving the files which are located on a network drive.

I have found some good starting point here for the actual removal, and I am working on a new master file which doesn't keep the macro when saved (save as...).

Remove Modules In Multiple Open Files Results In Error If Module Doesn't Exist

Jan 30, 2008

I have a number of similar templates on a server used to produce quotations from other files with lookup formulas. They all have 2 modules, 3 & 4. Module 3 deletes certain data and shows values instead of formulas for most of the pricing etc. Module 4 contains a macro that logs info in another central workbook on the server.

If 2 files are opened based on the same template at once, when the Quote_Wrapup macro (in module3) is run on one of the open files(code follows) from a button on the spreadsheet it often produces a Run-time error '9' Subscript out of range error.

Sub Quote_Wrapup()
'To stop screen flicker

Range("D8:F9").Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone
Range("qdata5").Font.ColorIndex = 2
Range("qdata6").Font.ColorIndex = 2
Range("A18:A1018").SpecialCells(xlCellTypeBlanks).EntireRow.Delete

Copy And Rename Files In VBA By Searching Multiple Folders For Files?

Jan 4, 2014

how I can loop through folders to select files starting with a certain word and copy all of them to a different folder and rename them. The folder structure is given below

Company 1(parent folder)
North South East(sub folder) West(sub folder)
Jan Feb Mar.... Dec Jan Feb Mar.... Dec Jan Feb Mar.... Dec Jan Feb Mar.... Dec

In the above structure, the files are present inside each folders Jan, feb...Dec under the regions North, South East n west. note that I have to select files starting with "Sales" and copy them into a new folder(say results) and rename copied files as Sales1.xls, Sales2.xls etc. (Files are not present in the folder company1, north, south, east and east.)

Files Open Automatically

Jul 25, 2007

The background is that I only use macros for a few limited files to save me some time spent on monotonous clicking. Well, yesterday I made three little macros that clear the info in three weekly files and save each with a new date (in preparation for me adding the new info). When I left yesterday, the macros worked as intended. I come in to work this morning, and each of those files now open automatically whenever I open any other file in Excel (just for the first one, nothing happens if I open a second).

Automatically Convert Text Files To CSV

Aug 24, 2006

I have a lot of .txt files that needed to be converted to .csv file format. Right now I am doing it manually using MS Excel i.e. File > Open. For each file, I need to specify the length of each fields one by one, so it is quite an effort for me.

Is there any way to automate this process using MS Excel or any other existing programs?

Automatically Create Csv Files From Columns

Apr 9, 2008

I have an excel worksheet with data from A to T and the numbers of rows may change from use to use. I want to create a button/macro that determines where the data ends and will take the data from two columns, say column A and column D and put it in a new csv file.

In my final product, I would really like to be able to have a set of check boxes that say "Column D", "Column E", ... "Column T" and so if I check TWO boxes, say "Column D" and "Column T" and click create, it will output TWO csv files, one with Column A and Column D and the other with Column A and Column T.

Mass Data Import From 200 Files. Automatically

Apr 24, 2009

I have around 200 files, all named from 001.xls to 200.xls, all containing the same format, the same number of colums, but a different number of lines.

Now I have the great task to actually open all these files and copy each files data into one file and start analyzing it. Well, since I personally have no interest to open, copy and paste 200 hundred times, I am wondering if there is any faster way to let excel automatically copy the data into this master file?
I am thinking about somehing like *='001.xls'Sheet2!B2:E20*

One thing is that each file never has more than 20 entries, thus i would only need excel to import the from line 2 to 20 from a certain file and then do same thing all over again with the next file.

Automatically Combining Records From 2 Files Into One Database

Aug 30, 2013

Specifically, I have customer sales data from my web site that contains order numbers and sales data. From Google analytics, I have transaction information that also contains the order number. The data element that is common to both is order number. I can't just paste columns from one file into the other because the records listed in rows may not match up.

I don't want to have to copy and paste data from one file to another for each record manually since I have thousands of records. Is there a way to merge the two files together automatically by having Excel "understand" that it should pair the two files together using the order number to create a row that contains data from both files?

Creating Files To Automatically Determine Proper Entry

Jan 1, 2009

I have posted about creating an Excel worksheet which would help determine proper entry into a retirement plan. Another idea that I had entailed setting up a separate worksheet which would return the dates of entry following an employee's date of hire. Therefore, an employee hired on 8/5/2005 would have dates of entry following that stand at 1/1/2006 and 7/1/2006. Then, I had an idea of creating a formula or function to add up the number of hours that the employee had worked.

Setting up a separate worksheet with the number of hours that an employee worked during the initial eligiblity computation period and the subsequent computation periods (separate respective columns for the initial eligibility computation period and then for each subsequent computation period) would help. I would calculate using sum functions.

So, to sketch this out:
One sheet would have the employee's DOH

Another worksheet would have the Dates of Entry subsequent to that DOH (e.g. for an employee hired 8/5/2005 the next Dates of Entry entails 1/1/2006, 7/1/2006, and 1/1/2007)

Yet Another Worksheet would sum the total hours that an employee had worked since DOH on a month by month basis (i.e. the total number of hours than employee had worked since his or her DOH up to a certain point on a monthly basis; e.g. an employee hired on 8/5/2005 would have on the sheet the calculation of the hours this employee had worked as of from 8/5/2005 to 9/1/2005, then the next column would have the total the number of hours worked by the employee from 8/5/2005 to 10/1/2005, etc.)

Finally, the worksheet with the DOH information would have a column which would (this would probably entail heavy use of VLOOKUP) snag the information as to how many months and years an employee had worked as of the subsequent Dates of Entry; if the employee had worked 1,000 hours and 12 months as of 1/1/2007, for example, the employee would enter the plan.

To explain the situation further:

The employee must work 1,000 hours during his or her initial eligibility computation period. That starts on the day of the first hour that an employee works for the company. So, an employee hired on August 1, 2005 who worked one hour on that day must 1,000 hours from then till August 1, 2006 to enter the plan as soon as possible. If the employee did not work 1,000 hours during that period, then the eligibility computation period shifts to the plan year. So, if the employee did not work 1,000 hours between August 1, 2005 and August 1, 2006, but did work 1,000 hours between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2006 (this of course presumes the plan operates on a calendar year)

Is it possible for me to set a Workbook_Open() sub that will run these two modules?

The modules names are Module1 and Module2.
The modules stipulate what sheets etc they have to act on, I only need the modules to be initiated.

Web Queries In Modules

Aug 8, 2006

I'm trying to produce a spreadsheet that pulls infomation from different web pages throughout the day. It needs to pull quite a large amount of information from different web pages hence I wanted to produce a subroutine which could be called with different variables for each web page, i.e. url, field, destination, etc.

To actually produce the query I recorded a macro and then used the code it produced. I then changed the URL to url, a string variable which holds the urls of the pages. The destion address was changed to destination, a range variable to store the destionation location, and the webTable was changed to table also a string variable to store the table number. This is shown below.

With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _
url, Destination:= destination)
.Name = "q?s=%5EFTSE&m=L_137"
.FieldNames = True
.RowNumbers = False
.FillAdjacentFormulas = False
.PreserveFormatting = True
.RefreshOnFileOpen = False
.BackgroundQuery = True
.RefreshStyle = xlInsertDeleteCells
.SavePassword = False
.SaveData = True
.AdjustColumnWidth = True.............................

Keeping Last Row Variable Across Modules?

Jun 11, 2014

I'm trying to make it so that a lastrow I defined in one module will still be defined in another macro.

My background for this - my macro is too large for one module, therefore, I split it in two. However, the new module uses defined variables (multiple lastrow definitions) from the original module.

So, is there a way to make it so when I originally define a lastrow in one module, other modules will recognize it?

How To Dim A Response (from Input Box) Throughout Different Modules

Jan 21, 2014

I'm working with a substantial amount of code (which, due to its size, has been spread out into different modules). Whenever I transition from one module to the other, I have placed a msg at the beginning of each module to prompt the user to simply insert an integer to signify which version of the automation that is run. The following is an excerpt of a sample msg

[CODE]
Dim Msg, Title As String
Dim MyInput As Integer
' Define message."

[Code].....

Where, whatever report is being run, will be the same throughout all of the modules (for example, if you run the "Day" Report" at the beginning, the rest of the automation should be run using the "Day Report" code, not the "Night Report").

Is there a way to do one of the following

1. Label the input of "Day Report" or "Night Report" at the beginning of the automation (where the above except of code is how that would be done), and that can then be the determinant through the rest of the modules

2. Set my code in a specific module to, when it completes, automatically go to the same style of report (Day or Night) in the next module.

Delete Multiple Modules

Sep 29, 2007

I have successfully rewritten all code in one workbook project. I have cut my Standard modules from 17 to just 4 modules.

Is there a way to remove all 17 modules at once so I can replace them with the 4 new ones?

I know that right clicking on the module and then click on "Remove...." will do it, but I would have to do that 17 times.

Not too bad if this was just one workbook to do. I have about 10 other books to do the same thing to. So that would be doing the right click 170 times.

I'm not even sure if this is possible. And if it is, I was thinking at probably having the code in a workbook open event to delete the Standard Modules??? Then I could just import the new modules.

Pass Variable Between Modules

Public Sub Done()
Dim complete As Boolean

Call Done

End Sub
In the Sheet 1 Module, the code fails at the statement:

If complete = True Then
The error returned is "Variable not defined." All three subs are declared as Public. Why does the Sheet1 sub not recognize the variable "complete" from the Module 1 macro?
