Change Cells Comments Commented By Text

Dec 28, 2008

I noticed that I have several (@200) comments that when visible displays Cell X Commented by (my work user number) in the lower left corner of the excel window. I'm not sure how to change this so its the company name instead of my work number. I'd be using a loop to go through each comment but need help with the line that would change this part.

Worksheet Change Removes Comments

May 11, 2007

I have an inventory sheet in which I am trying to accomplish two things:

1. Have comments pop-up when certain cells are selected that will explain to the user what kind of information he should enter. (So far, I have been able to make this work.)
2. When the user begins to enter information into the first of the aforementioned cells, a worksheet change event will automatically select the next cell for him, so that he will be immediately ready to enter information into it. That is, the worksheet will automatically "tab" over to the next relevant cell. (I'm having problems with this part.)

All in all, for each product on the inventory list, there are three cells that the user must enter information into.

Step 1: The ending inventory amount (the amount of product on hand).
Step 2: The user's initials.
Step 3: The time that the user physically counted the inventory.

(Then, when step three is done, the worksheet automatically tabs to STEP ONE ON THE NEXT ITEM. That is where I am failing miserably, although that is not the only place. . . . Keep reading.)

Here is my problem. I am not able to have my cake and eat it too. The comments are popping up beautifully, at the right time in the right way. However, when I enter the appropriate lines of code to make the worksheet change "tab" over the next cell, problems occur: the comments that provide instructions to the user do not stay visible. They flash for a split second, and then disappear. I am attaching a sample so you can see what I mean (and then I'm heading off to lunch with the boss, so it will be while before I can respond). The lines of code that I would like to have working are currently "commented out."

Prevent Copy / Paste Cells With Comments Or Allow Paste But Do Not Paste Comments

Feb 4, 2014

How would you prevent the copy/paste of cells that have comments?

Also, how would you allow cells with comments to be copied and pasted without pasting the comments?

I also have an aside question about the forum advanced search. When searching for multiple search words, how would you type the search to include all words, for example, "prevent" & "paste" & "comments".

Locking Text In Cells But Not The Ability To Change Colour Of Cells With Mouse Click

Mar 5, 2013

Locking text in cells but not the ability to change colour of cells

******** width="234" height="60" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0"
marginheight="0" vspace="0" hspace="0" allowtransparency="true" scrolling="no" id="aswift_0" name="aswift_0" style="left: 0px; position: absolute; top: 0px;">*********>

I have a spreadsheet where I can change the colour of a cell by clicking the mouse, I also have text in many of the cells.

What I need to do is protect (lock) the text so that no one can change the text in any of the cells, but I still want to be able to change the colour of the cells by clicking the mouse in that cell.

Excel 2007 :: Change Username In Mouseover Status Bar Message For Cell Comments?

May 30, 2012

I am having with Excel 2007.

When I hover the mouse over a cell with comments, the status bar displays a message; for example "Cell A12 commented by A satisfied Microsoft Office user".

I only get this message for one column. The cells in all other columns give my first and second name as the author of the cell comment.

Why it is only effecting one column. I have been unable to change the annoying "commented by A satisfied Microsoft Office user" to my own name.

Is there a macro that can do this? I tried two macros I found online, both from a few years back, but neither of them worked.

VBA To Add Comments Based On Cell Text

Jun 5, 2014

I have a VBA that can add a comment based on the cell value, however, I need it to do it for the whole worksheet and not just one cell. I am pretty new to using VBA's, so this is the best code I could find that would perform what I need. If there is a way to have it do run a vlookup, instead of me listing all the cases, that would be great as well.

VB:
Sub AddComment()
Dim strText As String
With Range("s6")
Select Case UCase(.Value)
Case "UPT": strText = "UnPaid Tardy/Late"

Convert Text Comments To Date In VBA

Nov 8, 2012

I have a situation where textual comments are entered into a cell where the comments are supposed to begin with a date in mm/dd format. Some enter all 5 characters but some enter m / d in if appropriate to the date, e.g., 9/6 vs 09/06.

I'm trying to take the left 5 characters and compare that to the current date - 7 to ID aged comments and highlight that cell. I currently do this by populating a variable LastUpdate (dim as string) with the first 5 characters, then run this IF statement.

If LastUpdate < Date - 7 Then
Range("O" & i).Select
Selection = "Comments over 7 days old."
End If

This works find except in situations where there is a zero for the first character after the "/", such as "11/05." The code doesn't properly calculate the date and assumes it's old. "11/5" works just fine. I thought I could try translating the variable into a proper date. I "borrowed" this formula from another post herein: =DATE(2012, MID(N12,1,FIND("/",N12)-1), MID(N12,FIND("/",N12)+1,2)). This works fine as a formula to translate the characters into a date but I don't know how to do this same thing in vba.

Colouring Lines Of Text In Comments With VBA

Aug 2, 2008

I currently have some code which reads a stock file, adding up the stock for each individual item (which may be in one or more locations in the warehouse) and then placing the total stock count in a cell with the detail (of how much stock is in each location, the location and the expiry date) and a separate line for each location, in a comment.

The comment is constructed one line at a time as the code finds the stock records, see code below:

With shtWorking.Range(strStartColumn & intRow + 2)
oldComment = .Comment.Text
.Comment.Delete
.AddComment oldComment & vbNewLine & strComment
.Comment.Shape.TextFrame.AutoSize = True
End With
All this works very nicely, but I want to colour individual lines depending on the expiry date. This can be done manually in Excel, but I cannot find a way of colouring individual lines of text in a comment using VBA.

So, does anyone know of a way I can colour individual lines of text in a comment, using VBA?

Next, I would need a macro that resets everything back to red. I hope this macro could be assigned to a form button.

How can I modify this sub to skip cells that are empty? I only want cells that are populated within the range to actually display the comment indicator, with the cell text transferred to the comment.

Ideally, I'd also like the text to be moved (not just copied) to the comment and leave an 'X' in the cell, in place of the text that was transferred to the comment, but I'll settle for the action above.

I would like a macro that will remove all comments from the sheet and revert the cells back to their original color. Since the cells encompass many colors, at the very least, I would like the macro to remove the comments and make the cells the default shading (white).

Transfer Cells Values To Cell Comments

Now whats getting annoying is i have to copy this commentry and then create a comments box then paste the text in there and finally, hide the comment.

So what i want to be able to do is be able to Copy the cell, then, have a right click menu button saying "Paste As Comment", so it paste the selected cells contents into a comment and hides it.
