in the date fields excel only recognises some of them as date, so when I try to change the format of dates (mm/dd/yyyy to dd/mm/yyyy) it only changes some of them so I end up with some wrong dates.how I can make excel read them all as date?
When I tried to import data in a CSV file, I ran into a couple of issues when trying to change the date format from MM/DD/YYY to other date format. I've already tried a couple things to no avail:
1. Use text to column functions and change the format from text to MMDDY 2. Use format cell function and change the date format 3. Use the text function (text(Cell,"MM-YY"))
Interestingly when I click on the cell and put my cursor and press backspace, the format will change. It seems like there's an extra space, but using the trim function does not work. I can't do this to thousands of data manually.
I am trying to add a calendar picker to Excel 2010. Everything I read online says that it is possible, you just need to use the ActiveX control "Microsoft Date and Time Picker Control 6.0", and that it should be listed under Developer Tab -> Insert -> More Controls ->... But it's not listed.
I also tried downloading the Microsoft Windows Common Controls-2 6.0, but when I tried to add it to Excel using "Register Custom...", it says "Cannot register this control".
I have a long list of dates that are fomatted as 3-12-13 that I want to format under custom date as d-mmm-yy : 12-Mar-13. I tried to do this but it does not change. I tried to change it to a number and that didn't work either.
I have data in these two formats 7/13/2014 9:24:14 AM and 07/12/2014 13:02. I want them in Am - PM style. I tried date , there is no format which suits my requirement. The first format in excel is general and other is custom under dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm . I have 23k rows, which I cannot afford to change manually.
I've got dates and times in the format of a text string. each string is always formatted in the exact same way to identify the data and time. As such:
Wed Aug 12 16:39:52 BST 2009 Mon Aug 10 14:39:03 BST 2009 Sat Aug 08 18:01:34 BST 2009
And I want to change them to a date formate that excel can understand, so i can search by month, or by date range. The main crux of the question is how to change that string into a excel understandable date though.
If you want to know, this is for my mobile phone bill. I have excel set up to give me a summery of how many texts I've sent, minuets I've used/have remaining. but i want to filter them by month, so I can see how my usage changes.
FYI I put up this question on another forum, however I'm asking it again here b/c I'm not really getting an informative answer there and this project is due soon. [url]
I'm working on a file right now where dates are in the format "06/01/09" meaning 6 Jan 2009. Or more specifically thats what the data is supposed to mean, however when I change it to word form it appears as June 1 2009. This means dates such as "27/01/09" dont get translated.
How can I fix this? I've tried changing the date format, and I've changed the global settings, yet this isnt working.
In case its relevant, before I pasted this data into the current spreadsheet my global settings were set at month day year, which is what I prefer. But the rest of the office works on DMY so I'm switching to that.
I have a list with several thousand dates listed like:
19931014 19900724 19910701 19911209
That is, yyyymmdd.
I would like to list it as yymm only. Is there a way to convert it in Excel? I have for a long time been copying and pasting in to Word then doing a search and replace of the first and last two digits, which results in the yymm format I am looking for. A better way would be nice.
When I remove "Release date:" from "Release date:24 December 2008," excel will automatically change the text to "24-Dec-08." Yes, I did try to format the column to "text" before using find and replace.
This wouldn't be a problem, except that half the dates are in Dutch, so only half the dates are changed, which means that I can't make all date formats in a column uniform.
I am working with a 2010 Excel spread sheet and need some direction.
One column has dates in it. Some dates are like dd/mm/yyyy (eg 15/03/1974) and others in the same column are in the following format 14th October 1983.
I need all of the dates to be in the first format (dd/mm/yyyy).
Is there a way to do this without manually changing each field? I have already tried highlighting the column, then clicking the 'numbers' arrow and picking 'date' from the number tab but that didn't work. It's never that easy, is it?
I have a table of data (total 142 rows). Column contains dates, in the format dd-mmm-yyyy.
I tried to filter using DATE FILTERS->EQUALS and in the custom filter window, I chose EQUALS then picked a date from the date picker icon. The date I picked was 5/4/2009 (this is May 4, 2009, formatted automaticall by excel as m/d/yyyy).
When I clicked OK, nothing showed up despite the fact that there are 6 occurences of May 4, 2009 (formatted as dd-mmm-yyyy in the data table)
So my questions are:
1. Is this due to the formatting?
2. Is there a way to change the date format supplied by the date picker?
I am having trouble getting Excel 2007 on my work computer to save as .xlsx by default.
I have opened the Office Button > Excel Options > Save > Save files in this format and selected "Excel Workbook (*.xlsx)," and if I save as before closing Excel then it works perfect and saves the file as .xlsx. However if I close Excel, re-open it later and save a new file the default "Save as type:" is "Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls)" and if I open the save options again the "Save files in this format" option is reverted back to "Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls)."
I have finally overcome the [Compatibility Mode] issue by saving a file named "Book.xltx" (not "Book1.xltx") in the two default locations "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12XLSTART" and "D:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART" (we use the D: drive at work for personal files). I thought this would solve the save as issue but it hasn't. I have also changed the "Save files in this format" before saving the .xltx files in the locations to apply the settings to those specific files but that hasn't worked.
It is on my work computer so I am limited in what settings I can change because they have them pretty well locked down.
I have a procedure that allows me to view and make changes to data in a table. I list the current values for the item in one column and use simple formula to copy that value to another column where if there are changes that need to be made, the formula is simply overwritten. The Macro is then selected using a command button and the formulas are all overwritten using copy/paste values to keep from writing out the formula to the data table. These values are then all written back to the data table, current values are overwritten with whatever is in the update column, new data or old data.
I have one cell out of 48 that has decided to march to the tune of a different drummer. The format changes from General to Text and the formula written from the macro is what shows up in the cell instead of the value of the formula. Never a big disciplinarian, I have to wonder if I have been too lenient on the cell and this defiance is the price I have to pay.
The sheet is protected only allowing entry into the cells available for update.
Here is the bit of code that affects this cell (starting from a format of General:
I have an Excel 2010 spreadsheet where the default number format keeps switching to the date format. I keep switching it back and it'll stay as a number format for a time, but then it'll switch back. This is also the case for any new worksheets in that one spreadsheet.
This only happens with this one file - everything else behaves according to my regional settings or to how the file had been previously formatted.
I work with a team of users that are continually publishing reports in Word that contain charts and graphs copy and pasted from Excel into Word 2010.
We have a custom script that leverages a PDF engine to automatically convert .doc files to .PDF files that we distribute electronically to our clients. This all works great, but only if all my users select 'paste special' and Enhanced Metafile Format when adding their excel charts into our reports. Most of these people aren't tech savvy, and I'm havin ga hell of a time getting them to follow this workflow and am hoping there's a way in Office 2010 to select the default paste from excel into word when the content is a chart.
It seems like the default paste from excel is an embedded chart/graph that you can then further manipulate each component of the chart in Word; the default doesnt' paste an actual image. I am assuming the pdf renderer is using a lower resolution .PNG version of the image and when these are scaled for print and or pdf, they look like crap.
Is htere anyway I can automatically change the default paste format for the chart from excel into word to be an EMF/EMV (enhanced metafile?) Either thorugh the registry or some other saveable setting?
I am trying to automate the status date on worksheet so that if ANY data is changed/ added/ deleted within a range (cells "B6:L34"), the status date will insert today's date in Cell "S6" but if the worksheet is open and no changes occur within that range, the date remains the same. I used this code below and it is not working.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Dim R1 As Range Dim R2 As Range Dim InRange As Boolean Set R1 = Range("S6") Set R2 = Range("B6:L34")
i have just discovered the Microsoft date and time picker. at the moment i have a text box on my userform into which i put the date.can i use code to transfer the date to the text box or do i use the date picker instead of the textbox. if i used the date picker what is the code for the date picker
i built a form and in the date section i have a date picker and once i fill the form out i have a button that saves all the data on another sheet like a database, what do i need to do to make it were it adds the date to the database itll add all the other data but cant seem to figure out how to make the date display
I work with several dates in Excel 2007. What forumula can I put in a blank cell that would change the below "Start Date" to 3/1/12 if the date displayed is less than 3/1/12? Also, if a cell in the "Start Date" column is blank, how can I populate a blank cell with a specified date value such as 3/31/12?
Is there a way to put a floating date range in the criteria much the same as can be done in excel ie greater than Today() but less than Today()+3? I don't want to keep going in and adjusting the query if I don't have to and if I don't keep the range tight there is too much data.
I am trying to use queries I have been running in MS SQL Server Management Studio, to return data in Excel where it would display as pivot. Some queries I was able to use through Excel but few others are not returning anything.
I am doubting it has something to do with the query itself - but they are displaying results properly in MS Query, they are just not returning any data to Excel.
