How do I convert 11.20.00 in A1 to 11:20:00 in B1?
I've tried =TEXT(A1,"hh:mm:ss") to no avail.
I'm trying to sort a dataset that contains time stamps: each line is an event with a timestamp containing milliseconds and no leading zeroes:
if I sort, I get this result:
10:0:18:507
10:0:18:640
10:0:2:414
10:0:20:271
10:0:21:651
10:0:21:693
10:0:22:131
10:0:22:70
which is wrong on so many levels...
how can I correct this?

I tried custom format, but Excel won't accept the formats I proposed "hh:mm:ss:000", "h:m:s:000", "00:00:00:000" it's all for the cat.

I have a coloumn of cells in the format Dec 12 2005 07:04 PM
I need to convert them to the format 12/12/2005 19:04
I have a ton of time in the above format (hh:mm.*) that needs to be converted to a 12 hour format (2:15 PM). I'm not wonderful with formulas, but if it's explained "simplistic" enough, I can probably get it. Please help - I've googled this to death every possible way. I can go in an manually change 19:37.5 to 7:37 pm - but it will take me FOREVER!
View 9 Replies View Relatedhow to convert number to data time format:
eg. I have number 20121231230000 and I need its conversion to 31/12/2012 23:00.
I have tried to use fucntion date with left, mid, right but still I do not know how to extract time.
Example......
In D2 I have: =B2
In D3 I have manually input: (space)3-08
As you can see the CONCATENATE puts the "39569" date in A2 But the second line puts the text date as I prefer. What I would like to do is put in a formula or macro in D2 and down that will change the "Mar-08" to "3-08" so it CONCATENATEs correctly to column A. Simply: I'm trying to avoid manually inputing the text version "3-08" (or whatever M-Y) into D2 down a hundred or so rows!

Is there any way that I can have a column of cells change the entered 4 digit to a time format? E.g. when somebody enters 1212 in a cell it will automatically convert the entered numbers to 12:12
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am pasting a large amount of data from a sql server query into excel. There is multiple tables output in each query. Some of the data is date/time and excel is formatting all of these cells to time. The date/time cells to not neatly line up in any row or column, so I cannot just format any give column or row. I need a macro that will find all of the cells that are formatted as time and change them to a date format.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use software that exports date/time stamps in the format of: MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm:ss.s
I like to keep the data in this general format so that we can keep it consistent and it can be useful to others using other software.
I recently had to do some date/time stamp manipulations where I added 61 days to a dataset because the data was erroneously set to a diferent calendar. (Still don't know how that happened but it isn't relevent to this issue) When I set up a formula to add 61 days, it appears that it automatically converted it to the excel serial date/time format before adding the 61 days. Now I have a column of data that is mostly general format but has this portion in serial format. How can I get the serial format changed back to general so that the entire column is in the same format?
Is there a way to enter a colon into a standard number to create a value that can be formatted into a 24 hour time value? eg a time is listed as 1345 with a general number format, and I want it returned as 13:45 witha custom format of hh:mm. Other than creating a table and using a vlookup function
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have loaded a .csv file in which the first column contains date/times, e.g. 01/12/2012 00:00. How do I now tell Excel (2010) that this is in fact a date/time format? If I select one or more of the cells, click on the Number dialog box launcher and try to pick a suitable format tghe cells resolutely refuse to budge from being text (i.e. left-justified, still allows me to edit the 'seconds' component to a number > 60). Also which data type should I be using? The only one that appears to have a full date/time format listed is Custom (not Date or Time).

I am trying to make a very simple macro but get stuck in de Excel date format. When using the date "=TODAY()" in one cel it is no problem but I want to integrate it in the CONCATENATE function.
I want to create this text "(WG 01-01-2006)" but then with the actual date of that day of course, which can be inserted in de active cell.
Whatever I do, copy, pastespecial, reed text with RIGHT, change format on an temporary cell etc. Excel keeps returning the number in Excel date format counting from 01-01-1900. Nice for calculating but I want the date text!
I just copied a range of data from a website however these numbers are in TEXT format.
Basically each number in this data set has a SPACE behind. This turn the number into a text itself and i cannot do a sum for this range of data. I tried TRIM function and also tried to format it to number but no luck. Also tried to mutilply the range to 1 yet they're still in text format.
Is there a way to convert date to text of format (number stored as text) either directly using excel formulas or VB macros. We've a requirement to pass today's date as a string in the format of "number stored as text". For this, i've in cell A1 a formula today() which gives today's date 10/15/2007 and I'm looking an output of '20071015 in cell A2 and this should be treated as text with a symbol " ' " before 20071015.

Is there a way I can convert dates to text in a CSV file (opened via excel) using a macro?
Currently I have excel recognised dates in the first column of the format dd-mm-yyyy and a corresponding values in the second columns.
I know once I have the file open I can enter the following formula in an adjacent coloum "=text (A2, "MMM-YYYY") but I need to change the format in the existing date feild and not create a new coloum. Sure I could copy and paste the new formatted dates into the cell, but in terms of what I need to do, this is not practical as I several of these CSV files that I need to query and extract data from daily using a macro.
The macro is not currently working because the date format is wrong. I need it to appear as MMM - YYYY. When you view the date in excel it must appear like this (as it would appear in say microsoft word) and not with the underlying date format.
I'm wondering how to code the conversion of a column (columns A, D, E and Q) from an Excel time to simple text. ie. time formatted 3:45 pm to text 3:45 pm.

I receive data from an external source and it displays what appears to be dates in column B.
In column G I apply a formula to display month/year info.
It turns out that some of the data in column B is valid date data, but other data imports as plain text and therefore I can't get the month/year info that I require.
I have attached just a small example.
I get this data monthly and it usually covers thousands of rows and therefore impractical to change manually.
How to convert any types format into Text with 5 digits in selection?
For instance, the content I select is "234", and I want it to convert to "00234". Just like the function "TEXT" in excel. How can I realize it promptly in VBA?
There is probably a really easy answer to this question but I cannot seem to figure it out. I need to calculate the sum of pages faxed on a fax report at my office on an excel spreadsheet which is downloaded from our server. It appears the file is not meant to be used in excel but it downloads as an "*.xls" file anyway. When I open the file I receive this message:
"The file you are trying to open, 'FaxCetailReport.xls', is in a different format then specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
The file is comnig from a trusted source so I select "Yes" and it opens just fine. There are just over 50 rows of info, one of them being the number of pages. In a blank cell I enter "=SUM(select rows)" and the result is a "0". I have converted the cells to the "number" format, no change. When I right click on the cells and select format, the protection tab on the right has the check box "Locked" checked and unchecking it does nothing, it is checked as soon as you go back in to the protection tab.
The only way around this is to manually retype the numbers in a cell next to the pages column, which is ok for 50 numbers, but I have some sheets where there is over 1,000 entries.
I have a long date and time text value in a cell such as "2013/10/02 07:43:39.39", where the fractions of a second are very important.
I can use cdate([text]) to convert the text string to a value, but only if i omit the seconds fraction: "2013/10/02 07:43:39".
Otherwise i get a type mismatch error.
Is there any way i can get the whole date/time string converted to a date value? The only way i can think to do it it at the moment is to convert the date/time, then divide the seconds fraction by 86400 and add the 2 values. Is there a better way?
Secondly, i have a large number of these date strings, typically >30k lines x 7 columns. Each string is preceded and trailed by a [space] character.
I can strip these extra spaces no problem. And, i can "loop" to perform it, again no problem. But it's going to take time to perform and i'd rather not if i can avoid it.
How can I convert all cell values in active range to text format without losing the actual value.
For Ex.
0123 will remain 0123
07/12/2014 will remain 07/1/2014
3453 will remain 3453
regardless of there previous format. Currently I am doing this manually for every column before creating a load file for SQL database.
I have a spread sheet with a date colume that reads: 2012-06-27-19 I need to have this read like 06/27/2012 but nothing I do is working I have tried to go to the formatting process and backing the hr:mm out and that doesn't work. I really don't want to go line by line to manually correct this issue.. HENCE ... over 2000 lines
Second question: If I have a column that reads 02/15/2012 and another column that reads 3/27/2012 how to a format a 3rd column to make it read total number of days between 1st date and 2nd date?
