Custom Cell Format In Which Space Follows Thousands Place
Feb 10, 2010
I am trying to write a custom cell format that would allow me to replace the comma with a space after the thousand's place. Therefore, 1 million would look like: 1 000 000 instead of 1,000,000. I do NOT want to change my regional settings to accomplish this.
When I write ### ### ### it accomplishes this, however, there is one small glitch. When you apply an "underline" you get the following result:
I have a giant sheet that culminates in a graph. It is for various regions. When used in a country with in-control currency, you end up with a nice healthy number that looks good on the graph. When our Zimbabwe office uses it with their crazy inflation and high prices, we get a crazy number that goes into scientific notation...
Anyway, my question:
Given a number like 4,200,000 or 6,500 or 345,123, I want to be able to show as few trailing numbers as possible, and give a nice K or B or D or however you abbreviate Quadrillion (kM? for Zimbabwe) after it.
And, if possible, I'd like to do it with number formats, but I am flexible so long as it doesn't use VBA.
The lookup table would be:
Sheet1 AB1<1,000As is21,000K31,000,000Mil.41,000,000,000Bil.5>1,000,000,000,000Tril. Excel tables to the web >> Excel Jeanie HTML 4
All numbers have 2 significant digits, and I want to keep 2, so if it ends up as 4,200,000, I want the answer to read 4.2 Mil, etc.
I tried doing this with a lookup, and couldn't handle it.
I want to show numbers on my excel spreadhseet in thousands. However, the challenge is I want to show negtive numbers in red within brackets. For instance, I have a number -104,784,089. I want to display it as (104,784) in red color. Similarly, I want to show 577,090 as 577. Is there a customer formatting I can set up in excel that do that?
i want to know how to numberformat numbers (Currency) into thousands, lakhs. For example i m having amount in colmun D like 1239.00 i want to format the numbers in this column as Currency with thousand seperator and lakh seperator. like1,239.00 or 1,23,900.0
We have created a userform with several textbox for numbers. We'd like to show them with a format similar to "###,##0.00" and allow the users to enter numbers without commas, but always show the textbox formated. Is there any special way to manage this format? As the textbox is a "text" value, how can we manage the input and the numbers? Should we always replace the "," withi a nullstring? Example:
Private Sub tbCakPrice_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean) tbCakPrice.Text = Format(Val(tbCakPrice.Value), "######0.00") tbPxCakCnFCgl.Value = Format(Val(tbCakPrice.Value) + Val(tbFleteRealCgl.Value), "########0.00") End Sub.......................
I have a column in excel which gets populated in the format "2/1/1980" when copied from a different source. I want a macro to run on this column and convert this in the below format. Required format: '02-01-80 (note the ' symbol before 02 which will keep it as text)
I need this macro to run on two columns and replace them with the required format. I can do a find and replace either in the sheet or through hard coding the VBA, but as the date format keeps growing, I would need to do this via code and hence requesting the same.
Can this be done automatically in a worksheet using the custom cell format function??.... because then it wud get formatted as necessary whenever someone enters a vehicle no. in that particular column.
I want to create a custom format for a cell for entering in "cup measurements". I want to be able to type in 5, 1/4, 1/16, etc. and have the word "cups" appear after the number in that cell. I formatted the cell to say the word cups after typing in the numbers in my cell using the code "cups".
ex: 0 "cups" works fine for whole number
so then if i change it to 0/0 "cups" is works great for only 1/8 but not 1/16 or whole numbers. Then I looked at other custom codes that already existed in my formatts so I attempted to try this code which I just kinda came up with
well it isn't doing what I want and If I use the 0/00 "cups code and I type in 4 cups the cell then says 4/01 cups.
What does my code need to be for me to show whole numbers and and size fraction without having it look weird?
Data in a cell is formatted in h:mm which is truly a result of a calculation of # of hours & minutes detained at a location. D
Data is result of microstrategy query so result is
Cell is formatted as custom h:mm, but there is actually a fictitious date of 1/1/1900 defaulting in front of h:mm when double clicking into cell or viewing in fx field above. How do I get rid of that date which is inhibiting me from converting 17:08 to minutes by using the formula of =TEXT(L3,"[m]")
In cell 'I6' if I enter the text "Balance" I would like it to display as "Actual" but if any other text is entered I would like it to display the text entered. How to do this using custom cell formatting. (Currently on Excel 2010).
I am trying to export a range of data from excel to xml. I have a module that puts the range of data into one cell:
Function Concat(myRng As Range) Dim myStr As String Dim c As Range myStr = "" For Each c In myRng If c.Value "" Then myStr = myStr & ", " & Chr(34) & c.Value & Chr(34) Next Concat = Mid(myStr, 2, 9999) End Function
How to all data to come in with one decimal place (eg. "4.5","5.0",7.0")
Question 1: how i can automatically add a cell into a formula by just clicking the cell to be added? in other words, say i typed an "=" sign in a cell and want to add a number of cells just by clicking the mouse without having to type the "+" sign after selecting each cell. the formula will just appear as > =A1+B1+C1 by default with each click of the mouse. Is there a default setting that can be set so the plus sign will appear with each click?
Question 2: how can i set a comma to appear for all thousands, (i.e. 1,000) without having to format each cell individually to show commas?? in other words that any spreadsheet i open will always insert comas for numbers larger by a thousand?
I have a RAW DATA work sheet that has data of electricity consumption for a given week but it is in a vrtical table.
I have many other work work sheets in the workbook that I require to look at the RAW data and the return the correct information in the specified cells
I need the store number that is in cell F1 of each sheet and the Date on each sheet that are on Row4 of each sheet to Look up and match the information in ROW1 for the store number and columnA for the dates.
then in columnB of RAW DATA I have time intervals of 30mins which need to match up with the time intervals on the sheets and display the readings from the RAW data on the sheets.
I have a sheet which uses a 'Custom Format' in column A, '00000' to give each row a unique reference. Is there any way to do a 'Find' using this format, e.g. 00012, rather than just 12. Searching using '00012' doesn't find the appropriate cell, whereas using '12' does?
I can't format them as text because I'm getting them as an isbn with dashes (ie:978-05689-256-7) and when I remove the dashes (even if its formatted as text) excel changes the number to 9780568.9E+12 (or something like that)
I think the solution would be to create a custom format (ie. 0000000000) to preserve the zeros, but I'm having 2 problems:
1. Since the ISBN#'s have 2 different formats (ISBN-10 & ISBN-13) I need to somehow check if the first 3 numbers are 978 then based on that it should be formatted either as ISBN-10 (0000000000) or ISBN-13 (0000000000000)
2. In the post that I linked to above it said that I won't be able to do a vlookup if its custom formatted. Is there any way around this?
