Data Validation From 2 List And In Alpha Order
Dec 13, 2008The user will be pasting a list of names in Column C and a list of Names in Column F I then want in Cell M1 for example a List box with all those names in from the 2 columns in alpha order.
I can create a hidden column that has the full list of names from both column and have a data validation drop down from that but cant think how to get it into alpha order in that drop down box without having a macro they would have to run 1st to sort it which i dont really want to do. is there a way if ranking a list of names in alpha order as then i could do then do a look up int he correct ranking order and use that list
6 Digit Alpha Numeric Random?

so from some searching i figured that it should be...

but when i fill down it auto it to a2 , then a3 etc... how do i stop that?
I might delete out the o O and 0 cause it gets confusing...
Also, it re-randomizes every time I open the file... is there a way to stop it?
Data Validation List - Country Names Are Selections But 2 Digit Codes Need To Be Result
May 7, 2014I've written a procedure that loads a list of country selections in a dropdown (see attached/vb editor/ThisWorkbook).
The problem is the valid values for this column need to be just the two digit country codes, not the country code +dash+country name. The reason the dropdown selections include both the two digit country code and the country name is because most users will not know the two digit codes. Presenting the selections in this fashion will make t much easier for the user to make the proper selection.
So here is what I need: When the user makes a selection from the dropdown list, the resulting value needs to be the two digit country code only. Is there a way to incorporate this formula .... =MID(B2|1|2) ... in the vba procedure which runs after the user makes a selection? Or, is there another way to accomplish this?

Formula To Extract Numbers From Alpha Numerical Entry
Jan 8, 2014I have a sheet with thousands of rows of ID's which are made up of a series of letters, numbers, underscores and or spaces. Within the sheet there are numerous duplicates so I need to able extract the numerical element, which is the key data to be able to identify the duplicates.
The numbers I need to extract are mainly 6 and 7 digits long however don't always sit in the same place within the ID. I don't need the 3 digit number sequences, just the 6 & 7 number sequences
e.g
AB_123_456789_Jones
CD_131_7654321_Smith
AB_123_Jones_456789
I've found a formula that strips out all the numbers, however it also included the 3 digit numbers which I don't want. I've also used Text To Columns to break up the ID across a number of columns however that leaves me with 2 and sometimes 3 columns where a 6 digit ID appears
Is there a simple way to extract the number if it's a certain length? i.e. 6 or 7 digits long
Data Validation With Indirect For More Than 1 Entry
Aug 13, 2014I am trying to arrange a dependent drop-down list and have the basic listing working. My problem however is that when i pull data from sheet "Mon" for column C using indirect it works but when I try to do the same thing for column D i get the same data as column C. How do i get indirect (or offset if it works better) to allow me to reference the alternate data 1 column over?

Nov 19, 2009I already have various dependent validation lists established using the INDIRECT function.
Now I want to figure out how I can automatically change the selected values given the selected list. For example:
Cell D11 is a validation list with options: Boat/Car
Cell D15 is a validation list where if D11 = Boat the options are Catamaran/Sailboat/Tugboat. If D11=Car the options are Convertible/Sedan/Midsize.
The problem is that if D15 is preselected as Sailboat, for example, and you go back and change D11 to equal Car, cell D15 remains an option from the Boat validation list. I would like it to automatically update as the 1st item on the car validation list.

Also,does the Data Validation limitation function includes spaces as well? Will the message appear while you are entering the characters (when it has reached the limit) or will it wait until you have hit Enter?

Nov 14, 2009I have a spreadsheet that pulls in a log file after running a macro with 100000eight digit numbers which may or may not have a record in the system. These numbers are produced by using any seven digits and adding a check digit at the end for an eight digit number using the mod function specifically Mod7...=MOD(A1,7) , for example, if cell A1 has 1234567 the mod7 function will produce the check digit 5 then concatenating for the eight digit number 12345675. the next number will be produced by adding 1 to the end of the 7 digit number 1234567+1=1234568 then concatenating again the number with the check digit 6, 12345686. this would be sequential order.
my spreadsheet gets all the eight digit numbers with no record and sorts them in MOD7 sequential order in one column. since the spreadsheet ignores the eight digit numbers with records. my compiled list of numbers have non sequential numbers in the list.
i need a way in VB to loop through 100000 lines (column A) and find the first and last number of a MOD7 sequential range and place the first number in (column B) and the last in (column C).
I have figured a way to do this in a spreadsheet but it takes too many functions and calculations in 100000 lines so the spreadsheet takes too long to open and sometimes crashes!

Feb 9, 2007I have a spreadsheet that I add to daily with 3 Columns that are always the same. Name, ID number and Phone Number.
Is there a way to make it so that when other people in my department use this that no matter how they enter the name, it is always formatted the same. No matter they enter the ID number and phone number they are always formatted the same. I've tried some variations of data validation but couldn't get to where I need to be.
Attached is a simple example.
I'd like the name to always be formatted as Smith, Bob

Take a two digit number in a cell and separate it into single digits in two cells. If you have the number 50 in a cell, then is there a formula that will take the 5 and put it in cell and take the 0 and put it in the cell beside it?

That is, I need to restrict the user to entering only a decimal value, only if a particular other cell (say A2) is blank. To put it another way, if A2 is blank, the user can enter a decimal value, but if A2 is not blank, the user cannot enter anything. I can use Data Validation to enforce either the decimal restriction or the ISBLANK, but I'm not sure how to make them work together.

Jun 13, 2014How to calculate a check digit in excel. The details to calculate this are as follows:
All variables in the calculation are positive integers.
We take each integer of the pro number and multiply it by a value and sum them to get a total.
An Example: 8 Digit Pro Number: 66988757
Pro Number: 6 6 9 8 8 7 5 7
Position in the Pro Number: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Multiply each digit in the pro number by (10-position) in the number, to achieve a sum.
Using our example pro again:
6*(10-1) + 6*(10-2) + 9*(10-3) + 8*(10-4) + 8*(10-5) + 7*(10-6) + 5*(10-7) + 7*(10-8)
6*9 + 6*8 + 9*7 + 8*6 + 8*5 + 7*4 + 5*3 + 7*2
54+ 48+ 63+48+40+28+15+14 = 310
Take the Sum of the previous calculation and divide it by 11
310/11 = 28
(Actually, it's 28.181818, but since we're working with integers, we truncate everything behind the decimal).
Figure a remainder by multiplying the quotient by 11 and subtracting from the sum.
Remainder = 310 - (28*11) ---> Remainder = 310 - 308 ----> Remainder = 2
Check Digit = 11- Remainder
Check Digit = 11 - 2 ---> Check Digit = 9
Note: if the check digit is 10 or 11, need to subtract 10 from the Check Digit.

Jul 3, 2014I need a macro where I can highlight a column and change all of the 2 digit years to a 4 digit year (actually, some of the 2 digit years are only 1 digit, e.g. "9" instead of "09").
I have an if then statement that I can use in the column after it, but I'd rather change the actual numbers in the original column, rather than adding another column (and having to keep the original, too).
The statement I had was:
=if(A1>=50,1900+A1,2000+A1)
I just copy dragged down to get the cell numbers for the rest of the column... but using A1 was just for an example, here, it's not necessarily going to be in that column. It needs to be just whichever cells I select.
It seems like it should be pretty simple, but I don't know how to word it in a macro.
