Excel 2002 SP3
When a file is currently open, and the user selects "Save as", it takes them to the files native directory. (Where it was last saved).
If the user has that same file open, opens another file from a different directory, goes back to the first file and selects "Save as", it takes them to the location where the last file was opened from.
Assume a workbook with some nice pictures.
How do I save all of those to D:TEMP on my Hard Disk ?
I've go a shared Workbook, which will be distributed among several users and stored in different places. The workbook uses the following

to save the sheet "data" as a text file with a name based on the value of cell a1. All I need is to modify the code so that the target path would not be
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="d:" & Range("a1").Value
but be the same as the source Workbook's - so that I wouldn't have to modify the code for each user separatly, because the sheet would alwayas be saved in the same folder as the current path of the source workbook.
I'm trying to save a copy an excel file in the same directory of the original file. The code is pretty standard but it does not work if the file is stored in C: (only c: ) Is that a bug or am I doing something wrong? Anyways here is the code in case someone is interested in trying it out:

I have a file which is kept on the C Drive. Each day, a different excel file is downloaded to a usb memory stick. The first file reads data from this file. The problem is, the drive letter keeps changing from E to F and the macro then crashes out.
The file on the memory stick always has the same name, so is there a macro to find the drive letter of this file and then use it in my existing macro?

I am trying to allow users to select a file, and then the file name/ the file path / and date are added.
Right now, all those functions work in the following code, but the file path shows up as a letter drive. As there could be upwards of 50 people using this file and the mapped drive could be different, i wanted the full path to be displayed.

Currently a Save As Macro copies "A1" as the file name and then opens a screen to allows the user to save that filename to a location that the user selects. View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to create and add-in that will allow a user to select a file (using the in built dialog boxes), the file will then be copied across the network to another server to which the user doesn't have access - I do have access so would hard code in the appropriate username and password in to the script.
The way I had done this before was to look through the users mapped drive to find a free one, map the network drive connecting as myself, save the file and then disconnect the drive.
I am able to map and disconnect the drive, but can't work out how to find an empty drive to use (thus preventing me from overwriting any mappings they may already have).
What I am trying to do is that I have an excel file with macros and it is a read-only file. In order for the user to save, I want them to only be able to save as a .xlsx file as it disables all macros. If for whatever reason, the user wants to save the file as another .xlsm file, they should be allowed but before they save, a "are you sure you want to save as .xlsm?" message should pop up.
All the options in the save as box should still be available in case they want to save in that particular format. Just that the .xlsx should be the default.

The same situation occurs with cell Z8 as well. It appears it is looking in the wrong location. If I change the E to a C in the formula bar it fixes the issue but I cannot rely on my users to do this every time. We keep the WB's in question on an external drive and pass it around as needed. So they will run into this problem on a regular basis.
I also get a "Security Warning - Automatic update of Links has been disabled" message only when run from the USB drive.

Then it will automatically save it under the SAME name as the original and the SaveAs Box must show up (for cosmetic fixes). It is important it asks if it wants to save it under the same name. Example: My file is called "Summary_2008" and when I hit the Macro it will do those things and it will ask me if I want to save it in the SAME directory under the name "Summary_2008" (I will only add a number then).
(The macro must know how to read the original name since I have 7 possible filenames - it depends on which company I choose, that is why it is important it is saved under the same name)

An excel workbook we have on a shared drive is returning an error message: "The document is corrupt and cannot be opened. To try and repair it, use the Open and Repair command in the open dialog (File Menu) and select extract data when prompted. I am having trouble following those suggestions, Open an Repair doesnt' seem to be an option on the file menu. I have Excel 2003, is there any way to recover our workbook?

Open the SaveAs box with the path already pointing to a specific directory and with the Name and file format already entered (.xls)
This is basically to save time navigating through our folder structure (which is a real mess). I don't want to automatically saveas the file as the target folder will change each month and the last part of the file name will chance (month). So I'd like a bit of flexibility rather than total automation.
I am currently using the following code to lauch the "save as" window.

When saving excel workbooks in our shared drive, a second copy of the workbook (with an unusual name) is being saved in addition to the original copy. Why would this happen?

I have made a macro in a xltm book that will open the "Save As" dialogue but I would like it to default to xls file type instead of the user having to select it in the drop down box.
In addition to this I would like it to name the file based on a returned "=NOW ()" function from a cell (sheet1!G13) that has been mdms date formated which returns an unique document number each time for our reference.
