Delete Temp Files Located On FileSever Via VBA
Aug 22, 2006
Right now the security settings on my server are set so that new files can be added by anyone but only a few people can delete them. Everytime Excel opens a file on the server it creates a temp file that it cannot delete due to the security settings. This means that I have to go in to each subdirectory and manually select then delete each of these temp files.
way to identify an excel tempfile, or a method for deleting these files with VBA?

Is there a code that will search a pre-determined folder for all .xls files containing the word "Temp", and deleting those files?
Example:
In the root of drive M, I have several Excel files. Anytime one of the original tracking logs is opened, a temp file of that log is automatically created. I would like to automatically search the drive and delete all files containin the word "Temp".
I've attached a picture of the directory tree, in case that will help. The file will always be named "PO Response Tracking - Temp#######.xls", with ###### representing a series of either 5 or 6 numbers.

I have a spreadsheet where I want to require certain fields to be completed then I want to have that file auto emailed. I have learned that I do need to have the file saved before sending otherwise the data will not appear in the email, so with this I want to have the file temporarily saved emailed then the temp file deleted.
Here is the code I have so far but it errors on the blue text, I did change the TempFileName from = "Copy of " & wb1.Name & " " & Format(Now, "dd-mmm-yy h-mm-ss") to = [C16] & "_" & [B6] & "_" & [D6]
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
If Range("B6").Value = "" Or _
Range("d6").Value = "" Or _
Range("f6").Value = "" Or _
Range("E9").Value = "" Or _
[Code] ......

When opening 1 of my files (made to be used by others) a lot of .tmp and .emf files are made. When I close the file most, but not all, are deleted and new ones are added. Simply deleting all .tmp/.emf files doesn't work because some are still in use (by other files).
There for I have made a bit of code that checks if direcory "C:...Temp|Temp_PandL" exists. If not, then it will be created:

The form is completed by the project leader, then they hit a Command Button and it's sent to the Senior Manager. After the Senior Manager looks at it and approves it, he then sends it on to Admin (me!) so the project can get set up on all of our systems.
We recently upgraded to Office 2007 (yes, we are a bit late!) and now the Macro that sends the form to Admin no longer works. An example of the error is as follows:
Cannot run the Macro "FY06-10 PROJECTS 19-Jan-10 08-32'EmailtoAdmin.EmailtoAdmin'. The macro may not be available in this workbook or all Macros may be disabled.
Here is the code that I use to send it to the Senior Manager:
Sub MailtoSM()
Dim FileExtStr As String
Dim FileFormatNum As Long
Dim Sourcewb As Workbook
Dim Destwb As Workbook
Dim TempFilePath As String
Dim TempFileName As String
With Application
.ScreenUpdating = False
.EnableEvents = False
End With
Set Sourcewb = ActiveWorkbook
ActiveSheet.Copy
Set Destwb = ActiveWorkbook
With Destwb

FileExtStr = ".xls": FileFormatNum = -4143

I am trying to export a chart using the code below, the loops change the data that is used to produce the chart:
Dim strFilename As String
Dim strExt As String
Dim lngProfile As Long
Dim lngOption As Long
For lngOption = 1 To 3
Range("nmOption") = Choose(lngOption, "Existing", "Option 4", "Option 5")
For lngProfile = 1 To 4
Range("nmProfile") = "Profile " & lngProfile
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 13").Activate
ActiveChart.ChartArea.Select
strExt = "gif"
strFilename = ThisWorkbook.Path & "Images" & _
Range("nmOption") & "_" & Range("nmProfile") & "." & strExt
ActiveChart.Export strFilename, strExt
Next lngProfile
Next lngOption
Each export command creates a file with the correct name but no data (0kb in size) and a temporary file that is the correct file type (I have tried both jpg and gif).
I could try and copy the temporary file, but why does Excel not finish the job? I have tried to put a loop in and also added DoEvents after the export but no joy.

I use some VBA that does many things and in the end it exports the files to a network drive and as a last step, it creates a Log, the log is basically one row for each file exported which includes the path and file, something like this:
Row 1: Headers...
Row 2: \networkpath odrivefolderDocument_file_name.xls
Row 3: \networkpath odrivefolderDocument_file_name2.xls
Row 4: \networkpath odrivefolderDocument_file_name3.xls
So, basically looking for a way to start at row 2 to end, and delete the files. Looking for a way to also maybe save/and archive them on my local Desktop on XP ?

I've struggled to find the code to unzip files using VBA but I finally found it and it works (using Shell).
The problem is that I want to unzip all zip files in a folder but my zip files contain 3 files:
1 csv file that I want to keep and 1 xml and 1 txt file that I want to delete.
I can't just unzip everything and deal with the txt and xml later because the xml and txt files all have the same name. So if I don't do anything, I have a series of overwriting messages prompting me to click yes or no. So what I want is either to delete xml and txt one by one after they are created or get rid of the overwriting prompt. I've tried to put a kill or delete file just after the unzip command but it doesn't work - it's telling me that the txt file doesn't exist (should I add some sort of refreshing command ?) and I couldn't find anything on google about overwriting text or xml files.

I have several organized folders which contain contain, in total, hundreads of files all created from the same master file. The Master file contains several macros used to sort and organize data copied from our engineering database (web-based).
After a file is created the macro is no longer needed. I am looking for some direction on how to go about opening and saving the files which are located on a network drive.
I have found some good starting point here for the actual removal, and I am working on a new master file which doesn't keep the macro when saved (save as...).

When I run a webquery to download information from online I have found the common 1004 error to occur very often however I have found that if I delete my temporary internet files prior to running the webquery, this problem does not occur. I therefore require an automated function to delete the temporary internet files however the simple 'Kill' statement does not seem to work.

I am new to VBA programming in Excel (currently 2003) so hopefully this isn't a "dumb" question.
I would like to re-arrange a group of data from a table of several rows and columns to a single column where the data from the first row is translated to a column then the second row is appended to the end of that data ....
ie:
( 1 ) ( 4 ) ( 7 )
( 2 ) ( 5 ) ( 8 )
( 3 ) ( 6 ) ( 9 )
to
( 1 )
( 4 )
( 7 )
( 2 )
( 5 )
( 8 )
( 3 )....
I thought a user defined formula would be a good place to start but am having problems getting the address of the cell that the function resides in to use to calculate the offset from a fixed cell (to be entered into the function as a argument). In other words, how do I get the address of the call that a UDF is entered in into the UDF? activecell.address is returning the cell that was last clicked not the cell were the UDF resides.
Secondly is there a better way to achive the results that I am looking for other than through a function? The size of the table will vary from worksheet to worksheet. I would also like to add an argumnet that lets me exclude cells with certain content from the resultant list.

I have created a drop down menu wseveral items for the first time. The drop down is located on several worksheets. What I'm trying to do is find out if there is a way to do 2 things.
A) capture a total (numerical value) of the number of items selected from the list on each worksheet. ex. if on worksheet #3 15 cells contain data from the drop down cell A1 on worksheet #1 would = 15.
&
B) capture a total (numerical value) of the number of times a specific item was selected from several worksheets. ex. if ABC was selected from the drop down menu 8 times on worksheet #2 & 6 times on worksheet #3, cell A2 on worksheet #1 would = 14.

How to pull data with a VLOOKUP to a file located on a Server.
My big problem is not understanding the syntax of the Server location. I've provided it below (obviously with some character changes).
I have a file located on my Hard Drive. I need to perform a VLOOKUP from A2 on this spreadsheet. The File on the Server is called "LookupTest.xls". The Range of Data is from Sheet 1 and is from A2:C4 and I need to pull the data from column C depending on what is selected from A2 from the file on my HD. I understand how to use VLOOKUP, just not when I'm pointing to another file on a Server.
Server mapping from Windows Explorer:
rbbabc$ on 'RP17409 - ABC Database (AHSSRVVN678.tge.com)'
Again, that server mapping is fake, as I changed it, but this is how it looks on Windows Explorer.
I'm trying to keep a master file of Data on a spreadsheet found on a server so that one master file can be updated, and several other tools pull from that Master File on VLOOKUP, Validation Lists, etc.

I have 2 tables where I need to pull data from one table into the other.
Table 1 - pull data here
A
Site
B
Begin Date
C
End Date
Rate
[Code]...
For example: site 77 in table 1, I need to pull whatever rate is shown for site 77 in table 2 for the date range specified on table 1. So the correct answer for the first row site 77 in column E would be .02. Notice there is a problem...mainly the dates do not match exactly. I just need the rate the applies for the majority of the time.
Another example. For table 1, site 174 from 2/11/11 to 2/22/12, the correct answer in column E (pulled from table 2) would be .02, even though Column D shows .00.

I have a table of data, every entry in the table is different. I need a way in a single cell to determine what column the data is in (and a way to get the row it's in would be nice too), some way to do VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP in reverse.
In the attached example I need a function that can take dog and return "1", "A" or even the header "Animal", if another similar function can return the row, that would be nice also but if I can get the column I can get the row. Example
I've tried a few things with creating an array formula to do matches across multiple columns and I can make a multi-cell array that will flag the right column with the right column number, but any attempt to sum/max/match this array formula returns 0 or #N/A
