External Data Query Based On Cell Content..
Nov 30, 2009I have a sheet which is running a a query against an external source, and coming back with a list of client data. Each row is an investment with it's own unique InvestmentID number and a ClientID number. Each client has their own unique ClientID, however may have multiple investments (InvestmentID) linked to their ClientID (does that make any sense?!).
Anyway, the query I have returns ALL investments. I know how to manually change this to only bring back certain client(s), however I want to be able to have the users (who don't know what a query is, yet alone to how to use/edit one) enter a ClientID into say, cell B2 and have the query reflect that ClientID. If they have to click a button to run a macro after entering the ClientID, so be it (although it'd be great if it actioned once they hit "Enter").
I know this is possible because I've used something similar before (that someone else created!). What I don't know is... if I had multiple "entry cells", could I have the query filter by two (or more?) ClientIDs? That is, they enter the first ClientID in B2 and the second ClientID in C2, the query then returns all information relating to B2 or C2
Query Parameters Which Takes The Date From The Cell Into The Query
Mar 29, 2007Need the query parameters which takes the date from the cell into the query. How should I modify my query if it needs to take the date from a cell?? The bold one date should be picked from one of the cell in sheet 2.

Query SLA Based On Time Logged
Jan 23, 2009Is it possible for a formula to calculate SLA's based on the time its logged on the spreadsheet.
For an example if a spreadsheet is opened and a date of a query logged in cell A1, this date would be 23/01/09. This would then be given an SLA date in cell B1 of 23/01/09. Unless this was inputted on the spreadsheet after 3pm then it would be given a SLA of 24/01/09.
Is there a formula which could do this as we have to manually check around 3pm and manually update all the SLA's.
Sorry it also needs to exclude weekends and bank holidays.
SQL Query Or Equivalent Filter Based On Condition?

I want to develop the capability to be able to have a form that Will search a pre-existing call and then when it finds it to bring up the main userform and populate it with existing details so that the user can amend them if reqd and save back to the database.
So what i want.

I want to open 'search existing call' userform, be able to search based on one of the following: callrefnum, fault_type, Call_logged_by
Once the call is found - it should be displayed and then on double click it shd open up in the main userform 'New Call' with all existing details populated.
Make A Pivot Table In 2003 Based On This Query
Mar 16, 2009I have an SQL Server that has a query (a view stored on the server) which takes roughly 10-20 seconds to execute. This execution time is the same in Excel 2007 if I import data to worksheet/pivottable. It is also the same in Excel 2003 while importing data into a worksheet. It returns about 350 rows.
However, if I try to make a pivot table in 2003 based on this query, it is much slower. I can set it up fine, but refreshing this pivot table takes at least 10-20x as long to complete, in the order of 5-20 minutes, to sometimes taking so long that I give up and kill it by hitting escape a bunch.
It's important to note that I am forced to used Microsoft Query to set up a pivot table in Excel 2003. There is no other way, I believe.
While it is running, Excel just sits there saying "Waiting for data to be returned from Microsoft Query".
Here is the weirdest part. Once the refresh starts, Microsoft Query loads in the background, you can see it on the taskbar. I believe that is expected behavior, but if I click on MS Query and view its datatable, I can see all the data is sitting there.
So what is the hold up? MS Query has the data. Excel is waiting for it to be returned. What is going on? And remember from above, if I do a simple import data to worksheet, MS Query is not used and everything is fast.
So my question is does anybody have any tips/advice on this issue? I need a way to not use MS Query for a pivottable's data source or I need a way to make MS Query not freeze up. I don't get why MS Query needs to be involved in the first place since I am not doing any parameters or so forth.

Create Pivot Table Based On Union Query
Jul 2, 2010I created a union query in Access to join two tables (Projections and Actual Sales). The query produces the results I want. I need to create a pivot table in Excel using the union query as the source. When I pull up the data import function in Excel, the union query does not appear. Do I need to do something else? I have tried to create a select query where I select all from the union query and I can find that fine.
When I use this query to create the pivot table the results end up all zeros when I try to sum the values. It creates some crazy results when I show it as count of also.
I can provide the data in either the Access database or Excel spreadsheet.
Query Worksheet & Return Rows Based On Conditions/Criteria
Jun 1, 2008I am trying to query a names sheet where each row may contain more than one occurence of a member ID. There are no duplicate rows ( records), because the dates are different for all rows.
1. I want to retrieve all of the rows from the names sheet that match a unique member ID. So far I only get one row.
2. And if mistype the number, it gives me a wrong record .I would like to get an error message that if I don't get a match, that it appears in the somewhere like dialog box or even entry in one of the cells that no name exits.
Pass Parameter From Excel Through MS Query To MS Access Query
Nov 26, 2012I have an MS Access query that contains a parameter. The parameter is a date field, and I have configured that in the Access query. If I run the query within the MS Access user interface, it prompts me for the paramater value as expected, and runs just fine. However, I want to connect to this query from within Excel as a data source.
I have created a connection to the Access file using ODBC from within Excel. In the MS Query window, I am merely selecting all of the fields resident in the MS Access query, and returning all values. In other words, there is no selection criteria in the MS Query. I have done this many times with Access queries that DO NOT contain a parameter, and everything works fine. However, in this instance, I need to pass a parameter through to MS Access in order for the query to run. At the moment, I get the "Too Few Paramaters...1 expected" error message. This makes sense, because I haven't figured out how to pass the paramater to MS Access.
Is there a way to structure this that does not involve VB code? If so, I'd love to know how. I have tried creating parameters in MS-Query with the same name, but although I get the prompt it doesn't connect with the Access query as the source for the parameter value.
If the solution requires using code, I'm good with VB Code in Excel...is there VB for Excel code that could make this happen?
Failing that, I guess there must be (I've seen a few in my search thus far) Access VB Code that can make this work. I'm very rusty using VB with Access, so this is my least favored solution. However, if this is the only option, keep in mind that I need to pass the paramater ultimately from a user who will initiate the process using Excel.
Create An Conection With MS QUERY To A Csv And Query Data
Sep 6, 2008I have a csv file on another drive on the network that i need to query. I believe that ms query would be the best way. I know that a DSN needs to be setup but this macro will be used by various users who wont know how to do that. thus I would like to create one via VBA every time the task needs to be run.
I haven't a clue how to do this and i need it to be explained to me in general terms with words of one syllable!

Edit Query Using Query Wizard
Apr 25, 2006I created an Ms Excel Database Query to bring in data from MS Access. (versions 2002 of MS Excel and Ms Access). The query works fine initially. I can right click, choose Edit Query and change my criteria. Results are returned almost instantly.
My problem is that, once I save the workbook, or autosave happens, I get an error when I right-click to Edit Query: This query cannot be edited by the Query Wizard..

Basically I have a web query. In this web query the url has a part which changes to direct it to a different page with similar formatted data.
These variables that change are all in column A of my excel sheet.
So say it was http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=*VARIABLE*
and Variable changes according to the cell value in A1, A2 etc etc.
Right so say i set up a macro to get the data from the website, and i do some stuff to this data e.g. cop and paste it to B1. I need it to automatically change the urls variable to that of the cells below and then do the copy and pasting to the cell below (B2) it copy and pasted before(B1). Then again it change (the variable at the end of the url) to the value of Cell A3 and after its obtained that data copy and paste it below B3
Im not great with vb, like i can understand it if its infront of me but at this stage i cant write it.
Im guessing though i have to use like a counter that increases makes the variable pick it from the cell below.
Oh and i need it to stop at say when the variable reaches cell A360.
Clear Cell Content Query

Jan 22, 2013We have a query, that looks at an external data source (db2 i believe). It will pull all data under a certain product set, and as an additional Criteria we currently have Serial Number.
Now, if the value entered is the serial number, lets say '1234567' for example, it will happily pull all instances of that into the table.
However, what I would like is a cell where I can enter the serial number, and the query will look at the Criteria, the Value will reference a cell (where we can type any serial number), and it will then populate it! I thought that would be fairly intuitive even for a complete novice like myself - now I am likely to have nightmares about Function Errors!
What I have tried:
*Setting the value to a cell ref... ie instead of '1234567' i have set the value to =$a$1 and in that cell i have a serial number.
*Tried to create a parameter. So value of [Serial Number] I then get a prompt saying "Enter parameter Value (serial number) - Regardless of if i type a cell reference (ie =$a$1, or i input the actual serial that worked before when it was '1234567' I still get a function error!
I keep trying different permutations of things, but I am ill prepared.
Event That Triggers When Cell Changed By Web Query?

I tried putting that code in the Worksheet_Change event but it only works if the user physically changes the cell, not if it's changed by a web query. So how can I run code that triggers when a cell is changed by a web query?
Lock Cells Based On Value Of Other Cells - Code Simplification Query
Apr 22, 2009I'm using the code below to lock certain cells depending on the value of other cells. The code below deals with one line of my spreadsheet only and as the spreadsheet comprises 38 data entry rows I've repeated this code 38 times in the worksheet module with the appropriate changes to row numbers.
It works, but causes much screen flickering and "thinking". I'm new to vba so no doubt I've made this code too extensive or lengthy or whatever (or just plain wrong).
Can anyone assist with suggestions on how to simplify the code and/or help with code to handle all 38 lines without repeating the routine 38 times?

Aug 30, 2012I am trying to make a macro that will query a column J4 for a date, if the date is found say "Wednesday, July 4, 2012" (J8) get the text from Column K8 "Independence Day" and insert the text in Cell (H1).
The Macro Prints sign in sheets with the date in H2, it only prints Monday through friday. Then skips the weekend and the next date will start the following Monday.
The Federal Holiday schedule is in column range J (Date) and K (Holiday)

Autoupdate Cell Comment Based On Cell Input / Dynamic Cell Comments?
Aug 16, 2013I'm wondering if it is at all possible to have a cell comment automatically update depending on what data is input in the cell (via user input, VLOOKUP, etc.)?
For example, if cell A1 contains the text "CHARLES" with a comment saying "Employee of the Month", and is then subsequently updated with the new text "JOHN" (again, via direct input, a VLOOKUP, data validation, etc.) is there a way to have the comment automatically update to say something else, such as "Team Lead" for example?
I've considered using VBA to accomplish my goal, but am unsure how to compose an effective code to do so. I've also considered perhaps creating a named table filled with all the different comment possibilities I would like to have used in this cell and then inputting a formula in either cell A1, or the comment contained therein, that would then call the corresponding text from that table based on the data in cell A1. Honestly, I'm not sure that what I'm trying to do is even possible;
