Dynamically Update Chart Source Range

Aug 31, 2007

I'm trying to create a chart and set its source dynamically.

I've tried two methods, the first by setting the XValues of a chart's series collection to a range specified by cells,

ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = range(Cells(9, coloffset + 4), _
Cells(9 + numvsteps, coloffset + 4))

And by using the chart wizard.

Call vchart.Chart.ChartWizard( _
Sheets(resultssheet).range(Cells(9, coloffset + 6), Cells(9 + numvsteps, coloffset + 6)), _
xlLine, , xlColumns, _
Sheets(resultssheet).range(Cells(9, coloffset + 1), Cells(9 + numvsteps, coloffset + 1)), , _
False, "End-End Eff., " & current & "A", "Line Voltage", "Eff. [%]", "test")

Setting the XValues property gives an "Unable to set the XValues property of a series class".

Using the chart wizard, trying to set the category labels parameter of the chart wizard to a range doesn't give an error message, but does leave the category labels section of the chart (when I click and view it) blank.

I've also tried

resultssheet = "Sheet1"
tempstring = "='" & resultssheet & "'!" & "R9C" & (coloffset + 1) & ":R" & (9 + numvsteps) & "C" & (coloffset + 1)
ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = tempstring

When I step through the code, tempstring is "='LineReg Results'!R9C1:R19C1", which is correct, but I still get an "unable to set the xvalues property of a series class" error.

Interestingly, if I record a macro of me setting the category labels, and play it back, I also get the error.

Automate Chart Source Update

Aug 30, 2007

I'm trying to change the source data for a worksheet for a series of charts. The source data appears in a series of tables. There are about 30 such tables and associated charts on the worksheet. (I need to duplicate this many times over, which is why I need to automate.). The chart names seem to increment by 2 (i.e. Chart 1, Chart 3, Chart 5) And the source data for the charts increment by 9: BM95:BP102, BM104:BP111, etc. How can I automate this? Also, I'm trying to automate changing the reference in the title of the chart. This reference increments rows by 9. When I use the macro recorder to do this, I get the following

ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Chart 1").Activate
ActiveChart.PlotArea.Select
ActiveChart.SetSourceData Source:=Range("BM95:BP102")

I'm unable to generate any code that allows me to change the reference of the chart title.

Dynamically Expand Range To Create Chart

See the attached example. I have data listed as shown, but need the chart to automatically update whenever a new sales figure is added to the next month. I know you have to use the OFFSET to create dynamic ranges but I can't get it to work horizontally, only if my data is laid out vertically.

Change Chart Source Range

Jun 14, 2007

My spreadsheet has multiple charts, each referencing a dynamic named range as its source data (e.g. "California1", "California2", etc). Each named range contains multiple series. I would like to make it easy for a single chart to quickly adjust to display different named ranges (e.g. view the chart with "California1" data, then update the same chart to view "California2" data).

I'd like to do this without having to right-click on the chart, select Source Data, and then type in "California2" as the Data Range. My question: is there a way to make the chart's Source Data Range dynamic so that I can quickly select the named range that I want to display? For example, would it be possible to tie the Data Range to a separate cell so that if I typed "California2" into that cell the chart would know to use that named range as its new source data?

Expanding Range For Chart Source

Jul 6, 2007

I have a problem setting up an offset range on my charting example ( attached).
My X axis will always be row A

I want my charting range to be more than just the one column and since the months will keep expanding I'm looking fopr the easiest method to do this.

My range could start at 1 row and finish at any other. User Defined.
Bu I want that whole range to be included in the charts. This is a stacked chart.

So in my example I'd liek the shaded bit as a stack chart. 3 bars for 3 months with 4 stacks in each one.

VBA - Retrieve Chart Series Source Data In Range?

Jan 13, 2010

Currently I'm working in an excel file that contains a lot of charts. I want to write a macro that changes the source data of every serie in every chart. It only needs to add extra rows. But as every series has different columns where they get the data from, how can I change the rows without changing the columns?

This is what I've written so far:

Code:
Sub ammend_datarange_series_all_charts()
Dim start_cell As String, end_cell As String
Dim chart_tot As Integer, c As Integer, s As Integer

[Code]....

As you can see I've tried two things, first I tried to change the string of the source data, however this meant that every series would have C and E as their source data. So I wanted to retrieve the x and y values in string format. This does not work yet, it returns an array with the values of all the entries in the series source data. From that array I can not retrieve the column where the data came from.

Dynamic Named Range As Chart Source Data

Jun 16, 2008

I've read through every thread I can find about dynamic named ranges as source data for a chart. It seems as if everyone can get it to work but me. I have a chart on one sheet that needs to update dynamically from data on another sheet when a button is clicked. Here's my code that runs when I click the button:

Sub Update_Center_Chart()
Sheets("Center Data Chart").Select
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("Center Data").Activate
ActiveChart.SetSourceData Source = Range("CenterData")
End Sub

I get the error message: "Type mismatch." The data is in B1:F2 on a different sheet. The formula in the named range, "CenterData" is this:=OFFSET('Center Data'!$B$1,0,0,COUNT('Center Data'!$B:$B),4). The data will expand by 1 row every time.

Add Data Monthly And Then Have To Manually Update The "source Data" To Reflect The Added Data On Chart

I have a column line chart to which I add data monthly and then have to manually update the "source data" to reflect the added data on chart. This is a rolling graph, which mean that I have to remove data for one month(from last year) and then include the new month's data. Is there any way on automating this process...like a macro or something, so once I add the data excel automatically removes one month of old data and make changes to include fresh data. Eg Currently chart is based on data from A2:F2 and I add new data to cell G2. I need something which automatically update the source data to cell B2:G2.

SMALL Function For Update Graph Dynamically

Personnel transfer out of the Department on know dates... but they come in to the Department all the time. I would like to know if I can increase the "range of my data" even if I don't have data in the cells (i.e. B2:B6 have data, I want the range to include B7:B16, which has no data)... When I have no data in the cells I get errors/ circular references...

Ideally, I would like be able to add or remove personnel and the SMALL function would "organize/update" my graph dynamically. Is this possible?

Dynamically Chart Series

Sep 18, 2008

I have calculated data (the column and row headings are calculated as well) similar to this for which I need to create an automatically updating chart.

******** language="JavaScript" ************************************************************************>Microsoft Excel - test.xlsm___Running: 12.0 : OS = (F)ile (E)dit (V)iew (I)nsert (O)ptions (T)ools (D)ata (W)indow (H)elp (A)boutA1=

[HtmlMaker 2.42] To see the formula in the cells just click on the cells hyperlink or click the Name box
PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS TABLE IMAGE ON SAME PAGE! OTHEWISE, ERROR OF JavaScript OCCUR.

The chart should update if the data is filtered; so if a user doesn't want to see the 'orange' row they can filter the data accordingly. There is a finite number of rows and columns in the range but sometimes there will be less data. I have tried to convert the data to a table and that works quite well except the legend keys persist: so if there is no data for pillows and stickers the legends still appear and have to be removed manually. Also, there seems to be a bug in Excel 2007 whereby the removal of a chart linked to table data causes a persistent error message to appear.
I know that I need to created a named range for the data series using OFFSET, and I have also read that I need to refresh this formula using VBA but I am now very confused and none of my attempts quite work.

Chart Series - Set Start / End Dynamically

Apr 16, 2014

The formula used to create the marked series line.

Code:
=SERIES(Rolling_window_data!$B$2;Rolling_window_data!$A$3:$A$122;Rolling_window_data!$B$3:$B$122;1)

The statistics in Rolling_window_data.

I need the marked line to be different from/to a point in time (x scale), depending on the backfill date in Rolling_window_data. All the contents are generated programmatically so the backfill date cell with a value will almost always be different. From what I've researched, I should make 2 series that overlap each other (in the current case, the 1st series should end on line 27 and the second should start from line 27 and continue to the end). The start is always line 3 and the end is always line 122.

How do I dynamically set the series start/end so I can make them overlap each other? I'm assuming I should add some kind of 'IF Statement' to the series code but I'm very new to excel formulas.

Code:
=SERIES(Rolling_window_data!$B$2;Rolling_window_data!$A$3:
IF(FOR Each Cell in Range("D3:D122") cell.value #N/A, Cell, "D122");Rolling_window_data!$B$3:$B$122;1)

Update Data By Ado - Change/delete Data And Then Run Macro For Update Data In Source Spreadsheet

Dec 6, 2006

I have one source spreadsheet, where are columns NAME, DATE. I read these data by ADO to other spreadsheet, where I can change/delete data and then run macro for update data in source spreadsheet. The problem: In source spreadsheet is column "NAME" and column "DATE", with values e.g. "Joseph"; 1.1.1980. I read this data to other spreadsheet, then I delete in it value 1.1.1980. When I run macro Update, it messages error.

Sub UpdateItem
...
.Fields.Item(1).value = activecell 'activecell value = "Joseph"
If Not isempty(activecell.offset(0,1)) Then
.Fields.Item(2).value = activecell.offset(0,1).value
Else
.Fields.Item(2).value = "" 'I tried Empty and 0 too but when I read data again then, it displays 0.1.1900, nothing works
End If
...
End Sub

It seems that in source spreadsheet has data in column "Date" format Date and when I try to update data in format String ("") in source spreadsheet by Update macro, it messages error. When I used

.Fields.Item(2).Value = Empty
' or
.Fields.Item(2).Value = 0

after rereading data it displays 0.1.1900 What I want to get is that if the cell with date (in other spreadsheet) is empty, the cell in column Date in source spreadsheet after updating will be blank (contains no values).

Update Combo Box Source On A Condition

Dec 4, 2007

My userform has a combo box that upon entry event is populated via a sub procedure.

The sub procedure defines a column of data on the active spreadsheet as a range and manipulates the range to add unique values only in alphabetical order into a collection.

Which the collection is then used to Add.Items to the combo box.

The userform allows selection of an existing value from the combo box OR type a new value In (no formatting on value).

When combo box is exited and a further command button is pressed the value from the combo box is added to the spreadsheet.

However, I don't need to refresh the source values of the combo box upon EVERY entry as I currently do, ONLY when a NEW value has been typed in and added to the spreadsheet.

How can I (possible check index value ?) ensure when the user types in a new value, exits field and presses the command button is the ONLY time when the combo box source values need to be refreshed.

Update Source Data For Multiple Pivot Tables With VBA

Each of these sales data sheets runs several pivot tables (One for dept sales, one for waste, one for sales on Selected UPCs etc) and I used to have 1 copy of each pivot table for each store (ie 24 pivot tables). Now I have found a way to have only 1 copy of each PivotTable which changes based on which store is selected using the following code:

Code:
Sheet13.PivotTables ("Top10LW").PivotTableWizard SourceType:=xlDatabase, SourceData:= _

This works great however I was repeating it for every pivot table I had in the spreadsheet, causing messy code and file corruptions.

ComboBox Control Source Update With Multiple UserForms

Oct 12, 2006

Excel – Forms – Combo Box, cell updating.

I have a form (the main one) which accesses a second form, which accesses a third form. All forms have a combo box, control button and a text box.

The items selected in the control boxes are entered into cells (the base cells) in the spreadsheet, via “Control Source”. The text boxes access these cells and show the selected items, which are then copied to other cells via a macro on activating the control button in the main form.

The main form stays open while other items are selected and transferred. Some of the items may not be changed (reselected) as they may be common. The problem is that after a number of items have been selected and transferred, the base cells for the second and third text boxes do not update after a selection from the combo boxes, and they continue to show a previously selected item.

The problem can be solved by closing the 2nd and 3rd forms and starting again. What can I do keep the cells updating without closing the form down?
