Excel 2007 :: Dates By Month On X-Axis In Horizontal Stacked Bar Chart?
Aug 24, 2012
I am working with the Ganntt chart and horizontal bar charts but can't seem to figure out a way to force the X-Axis to behave properly.
In Excel 2007, I am trying to get the X-Axis to show major units of Months. However, in my chart options I can only change the Y-Axis to be Date/Monthly.
Changing my data layout (from the below) to be a vertical format produces the same problem, just in the other direction.
My data looks as follows:
System
Blocker
Production
Migrataion
Retired
Sys1
1/1/2012
780
Sys2
1/1/2012
400
60
90
Sys3
2/1/2013
30
5
1
The Blocker column is formatted as "No Fill" in order to cover a portion of the time-scale.
My X-Axis displays as random dates throughout the period and all of my data displays properly in terms of the scale on the grid.
What is NOT working is that the dates shown on the X-Axis really need to be based on a Monthly scale instead of the randomly selected dates Excel is using.
20120823.xlsx
I can't seem to find the right combination of options to make that happen or force a scale on the X-Axis.
I am trying to create a chart with dates from the past 6 weeks (one week at a time). The horizontal axis shows the dates from my data page correctly until I make one of the other data fields a secondary axis and then my dates change from the actual dates on the data page to 1-Jan-00, 2-Jan-00, through 6-Jan-00.
When I do the select data and look at the dats in the Horizontal Axis labels box, it shows the real dates. Why won't they show up on the chart as actual dates?
I'm having trouble getting the dates i want on the horizontal axis on a chart in Excel 2013. I want 12 dates along the axis starting at 01/01/2013 then each month until 1/12/13 however as you can see the dates are 01/01/1900.
We have a lot of charts we want to create in Excel 2007. We have templates created that seem to work. (But also sometime seem to not.)
After the charts are created that are placed in their own chart pages/sheets. The problem I'm having is that the x axis title doesn't seem to be centered horizontally wrt the x axis of the plot area. (It does look centered wrt the chart area.)
Some code or an algorithm to control he placement of the x axis title and maybe center it?
I have a spreadsheet with golfers handicaps, golfers names down the left in column A in rows 3-35. Row 2 has the event numbers titles 1 to 18 (18 events in a year). i need a graph that has the person as the vert axis and the horizontal axis needs to be the event numbers, so i can read down for the person and across to see how there handicaps change from each different event. i have attached the data below.
We make many graphs using XYscatter charts with lots of data points using Excel 2003 with the horizontal scale properly scaled as frequency. I have been asked to label that axis in some way as period (=1/frequency) without changing the scaling for the data plot. Is there a suitable way to do this? It would be OK to just change the axis numbers to 1/frequency computed from them automatically. Is Excel 2010 any easier for this?
I'm attempting to chart data obtained from our phone system to see when users are logged in/on rest.
I'm using Excel 2007.
The data we extract has: person | status | start | finish | duration
Status is either "login" or "rest" Start/finish is time (h:mm) Duration is a formula (h:mm, finish - start)
I want to have a stacked bar chart that shows when a person was logged in/on rest; one bar for each person.
x-axis: person y-axis: time (8am - 6pm) legend: status
The problem I'm encountering is that each person logs in and out multiple times throughout the day (therefore, has multiple lines to their name in the data), and I can't get this information to appear on a single bar for each person.
I've sorted the data into a pivot table which gives me the information I want, but how to get the chart.
Row labels a. Person b. status c. start
Values Min of duration
Ideally, I would like to avoid using a Gantt chart within cells (as it would involve vlookup/if statements), but am beginning to think that's my only option...
Using the table, draw a stacked chart that has both the project name (A, B etc) and Month on the x-axis (below all the projects). the stacked chart should contain the count for cat1, cat2, cat3 and cat 4 for each project (in different but consistent numbers for each month).
I need this for a presentation today,
OctoberNovemberDecemberProject Cat. 1 Cat. 2Cat. 3Cat. 4Cat. 1 Cat. 2Cat. 3Cat. 4Cat. 1 Cat. 2Cat. 3Cat. 4A 00236111110001B C D E F 0012230182600425G H I 02114001602210J K L
I am plotting a line chart wherein the X-axis is based on % and Y-axis is based on $. I have 5 scenarios wherein they have different ranges. I want to have the X-axis plotted up to 100%. How to get the X-axis stacked at 100%. See attached file.
When ever I add a secondary axis to my chart my bar chart sub type changes to a stacked bar chart. How do I keep the sub type bar chart? I have attached an example. I have tried playing with the gap and width of the bars but to no avail.
I am wanting the colors of the bars in a stacked chart to change based on the date in the X Axis. As the current date arrives, the stacked bar needs to change to various blue shades. If the date is in the future, the stacked bar needs to be various grey shades.
I would like to create a chart with stacked columns. Usually, the data on the Y-axis is some kind of numerical data, such as budget. I would like to have the Y-axis have non-numerical data (= nominal categories).
Example : Take the following data : category | productname red berry red carrot green cabbage green apple
The ouput format i want is a chart which shows on the horizontal axis the categories red and green, and stacks in each category the right productnames on top of eachother; preferably each productname should have a different colour and showing data labels (e.g. "1", "green","apple" could be 1 specific data label).
I don't know how to achieve this, because if you display data as "count of productnames", then automatically you get something like a block with value 2, which doesn't show the different productnames inside that block.
I want to draw a chart in Excel, in X axis Dates and in Y axis some other data. The dates which fall Saturday and Sunday will show in RED colour. Other dates will show in default colour.
I need to create a chart showing a timeline from 0 hours to 100 hours. In this timeline, there has to be 8 seperate segments - ie, phase 1, phase 2, phase 3, phase 4, phase 5, phase 6, phase 7, phase 8. Each phase takes a certain amount of hours (the number of hours of each phase is irrelevant for now!).
how to format this data and then how to display such a chart? I need the timeline along the X axis.
Would like to add totals to stacked column chart in Excel 2007.
I have followed same steps listed here [url] but cannot position data labels above column.
Excel only gives me the options Center, Inside End, and Inside Base.
I also tried setting label position with VBA:
For Each co In ChartObjects For Each s In co.Chart.SeriesCollection If s. Name = "Totals" Then For Each dl In s.DataLabels dl.Position = xlLabelPositionOutsideEnd Next dl End If Next s Next co
Also tried the following without luck:
dl.Position = xlLabelPositionAbove
For each VBA example I get following error: Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)': Automation error Unspecified error
It seems like Microsoft has removed this positioning option for stacked column charts because it works fine for normal column charts. Anyone find a way to do this otherwise?
It all works fine but I've noticed an odd quirk which I can't explain nor can I seem to fix. Here's the (reduced) code :
Code: Dim appExcel As Object ' Excel Application Dim chtPareto As Object ' Chart Set appExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application") Set chtPareto = appExcel.Charts.Add With chtPareto ' Primary category axis
[code]....
The category (x) axis title should be horizontal, whereas the value (y) axis title should be rotated. Stepping through the code, when I .SetElement for the category axis title, it appears horizontal as planned. However, as soon as I .SetElement for the rotated value axis title, the category axis title also rotates.
I have a simple piece of code that creates a chart using the the values in column A as the x-axis and the values in column E as the y-axis. The values in Column A are all dates in this format: mm.dd.yyyy. However, when I collect the x-values they always appear as numbers (1,2,3). Even if I format the axis to Dates, they appear as 1.00.1900, 1.02.1901, etc.
Here is the code (also, I would like a VBA solution but if this is with excel's chart tools, so be it).
Code:
Sub Macro2() ActiveSheet.Shapes.addChart.Select ActiveChart.ChartType = xlXYScatter ActiveChart.SeriesCollection.NewSeries ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Name = "=""Rate of Productivity""" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = "='Sheet1'!$A$2:$A$4" ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Values = "='Sheet1'!$E$2:$E$4" End Sub
I recently switched to Excel 2010 and have a rather peculiar problem.Every week I update a bunch of charts in different workbooks. By update, I pretty much mean just shifting the range over one column or down one row to incorporate newly added data.
So I right click the chart, select "Select Data", update all the Data series ranges and then I click on the Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels button "Edit" to update the Axis label range.
I do all that then press OK. The data series have updated, but the axis labels haven't. So then I do the procedure again for the Axis Labels, hit OK again and voila: It worked.
But I ALWAYS have to do this procedure twice. It will NEVER update the axis labels the first time around. Even though the little preview window below the edit button show the labels correctly.
I have a set of data with values and dates (call the dates 'raw dates'). I have added 3 columns with formulae in them as follows:
Year =YEAR('raw date') Month =TEXT('raw date',"mmm") Day ='raw date', formatted as "d".
I have a pivot chart with three Axis Fields. In order they are: Year, Month and Day. This is so that the chart itself has three layers of x-axis names (year, month and day) rather than a whole load of dates which looks messy.
I would like to show the values as a running total "in" the raw dates of the data.
When I show the values as "Running Total in" 'raw dates', I get a load of #NAs in the pivot table because the raw dates are not in the Axis Fields. If I select Running totals "in" the Days (which is included in the pivot table setup), I get running totals over each month, starting at zero on the first date in each month. I need to have the running total run over the course of the whole data set, not mini running totals in each month.
When I choose only the 'raw dates' in the axis fields (i.e. taking out Year, Month and Day), running total works fine. The only thing is that I lose the nice looking x-axis. Adding the raw dates to the other 3 Axis Fields also doesn't work - it doesn't even try to give a running total at all, just the original values.
how to achieve a running total without sacrificing the x-axis?
Using Excel 2007. Would like to format X-Axis values to display 1st month and 13th month as Feb 2, '08 for example. I would like the other 11 tick marks to remain. Sample attached ( Saved in 2003 format, I .xlsx was invalid file type) 4th micro chart uses F1:F13 for values for x axis
I got a problem with displaying my dates correctly on the X-axis of my combined column - line graph. For some reason X-axis labels appear as consecutive numbers with regards to number of data points. Please see attached.
Also, why does the indent change as seen in this screenshot?
Last but not least, how can I prevent my secondary axis label from coinciding with the labels as seen here?
Is there a way to display only the current month and the past 11 months in a Line Chart in Excel? So if I was to print Jan 2008 Excel graph, it would only display Feb 2007 - Jan 2008 data charting.
The spreadsheet of the data contains data for Jan 2005 - Jan 2008 so far, but only the current month with the past 11 months should display in the line chart depending on what is the current month.
Using Excel 2007. Is there a straightforward way to do a waterfall chart?
eg. stacked bars running from left to right. First Column = 2011 Headcount 2nd Column = stacked bar with additions (by category) - stepping up from the 2011 total. 3rd Column = stacked bar with reductions (by category) - steppind down from the first column + 2nd colum total. 4th column = 2011 exit (which will be at the same height as the bottom of the 3rd column).
I am trying to create a 100% stacked column which has a superimposed line chart over the top of it.
Basically % of yes and no for two separate datasets, but which share the same characteristics. The x-axis is months of the year.
CSP Yes CSPNo All Yes All No
Apr-13 6 19
[code]....
I can create 2 separate charts. One for the yes/no of one set as a 100% stacked column. I then use 'no fill' on the No column to stop this from being seen.
I can create a 100% line chart for the second data type, and 'no fill' the 100% line that appears.
However, I can't merge the two charts to show the Yes % for one dataset as bars and the Yes % of the other as a line.
I am using the the stock chart and I would like there to be a horizontal line across the chart with a y-axis of the opening price. In the end I want this to be in VBA but how to do this manually I should be able to put it in loop of data that will produce many charts with a horizontal line starting at the day opening.
I have tried to add a new series to the chart but I'm using the Candle stick stock chart and the new series comes out as a vertical not horizontal line. I read about using a secondary horizontal axis but all the tutorials I find are in Excel 2003 and they donlt line up well with Excel 2007.
I found this link on charts with horizontal lines but again they are in 2003 and I'm using a candle stick stock chart not a scatter chart. [URL]
I want to a horizontal line in a chart. There are only two figures with me. One I want to display as a column chart. The other as a horizontal line chart. (I can use both excel 2003 or 2010, whichever is suitable)
