Excel 2007 :: Password Protect Sheet But Allow Filtering And Sorting
Jan 30, 2014
I am using Excel 2007 and I have a worksheet with multiple columns, some of these columns are protected and some are not.
I then lock the worksheet with a password so the user can't edit certain cells that are protected but can modify the unprotected cells, the problem is the user cannot use the filter or sort the workbook.
Is there a way to allow filtering or sorting but still lock down the worksheet.

I know how to protect a worksheet with a password so that no one can amend the contents or view the formulas in the cells. And then we can un-protect the worksheet by clicking on the "review" tab in excel 2007 and so on. But recently I came across an excel sheet which was password protected and my query is that the "Review" tab was greyed out. What kind of protection was this that clicking on "review" tab option is also unavailable. And how does these kind of sheets get unlocked then.

I have a sheet that is password protected. I have this code attached to a command button. It will unlock the worksheet, autofilter it, print it, unfilter it, and password protect the sheet again. However it is protecting it without a password. I need to have it protected with the password so that someone will not be able to just go to tools to unprotect the sheet.
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
ActiveSheet.Unprotect "rainforest"
Columns("O:O").Select
Selection.AutoFilter
Selection.AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:=">0", Operator:=xlAnd
ActiveWindow.SelectedSheets.PrintOut Copies:=1, Collate:=True
Selection.AutoFilter Field:=1
Selection.AutoFilter
ActiveSheet.Protect DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True _
, AllowSorting:=True, AllowFiltering:=True
End Sub

I have an intern that is working with me, and I have a file that I need updated but one of the columns has confidential information so I would like to just hide & password protect this column this way he can't access/view this information but still have access to modify the rest of the spreadsheet.
Is there a way to do this in Excel 2007?

I have an Excel 2007 workbook which has five sheets in. I just wondered whether it is possible to hide all five of them when the workbook is first opened. Also I would like the user to be asked for a password when they wish to unhide a sheet, with the password being different for each of the sheets.
Is there also a way to do this which won't be affected by Excel disabling all Macros when the application initially opens.

1) I need to have code to protect the sheet that my user form is writing to. In other words, when the information from the user form is populated to the sheet, I want that sheet protected by a password that I set where I can unlock it, but no one else can.
2) I need to protect my VBA code with a password, I do not know how to do this, I have looked everywhere. I do however think this is something simple and I will kick myself once I find out where it is.

This question is related to my post here:
http://www.excelforum.com/excel-programming/634024-cell-range-protect-unprotect-toggle.html
When you protect a worksheet via VBA then unprotect it the conventional way via: Tools>Protection>Unprotect Sheet. Why is it when you unprotect a worksheet in this way Excel does not ask you for a Password. You simpy only have to select Unprotect Sheet and the sheet is unprotected which for me kinda defeats the object.

I'm looking to password protect the sheets in my workbook (using vba) but I can't seem to join this up with allowing users to edit scenarios.
If I record the protection I get this:
Code:
ActiveSheet.Protect DrawingObjects:=False, Contents:=True, Scenarios:= _
False
I normally use:
Code:
ActiveSheet.Unprotect Password:="password"
I just need to combine the two. Adding the password before 'DrawingObjects' or at the end doesn't seem to work.

I have 5 sheets in my work book.
Sheet Names:
1) PasswordPage - - I would like this to be the page where a user needs to type in their password. If it is correct, their own worksheet would display.
2) Sally - - Hidden and protected, unless Sally types in correct password. Sally's password would be Summer
3) Vanessa - - Hidden and protected, unless Vanessa types in correct password. Vanessa's password would be Pluto
4) George - - Hidden and protected, unless George types in correct password. George's password would be Carpet
5) Alexander - - Hidden and protected, unless Alexander types in correct password. Alexander's password would be Lampost
I would like to ensure that noone else see's anyone else's sheet unless they know the appropriate password, as each individual sheet contains sensitive information.
I also plan to "protect" each sheet also, so that the Sally, Vanessa, George and Alexander cannot make changes to the formulas, etc. - - this I already know how to do.
My question relates more to, How do I hide/ password protect each sheet as outlined above? I assume I must use visual basic, however I am not very familar with it.

I have a worksheet with employees names and their overtime hours worked that week. I would like to add some code to a button that will prompt for a password. If that password matches a predefiened password then lock a range of cells and place a time stamp next to the button and maybe change the button color of the button to Red. Now if the person with the password wants to change the locked cells, they can click the button again and enter the password and the button will turn green so they can make the changes. I would like the time stamp to be updated every time the cells are locked. Also wanted to have one button for every work week so about four buttons per worksheet. Here is an example of the worksheet. The range of cells I want to lock are the ones in bold.

I have been really trying to get this sorted myself and I can get it to work with one exception. I can't get the sheet to lock with a password. It locks, but if I try to unlock it again, it does so without prompting me to enter a password.
Essentially I am wanting to unprotect two sheets, unlock the cells that were previously locked (so users couldn't enter data in them when the sheet is protected), then reapply the same password to protect the sheet, but now they will be able to enter data in the unlocked range of cells).
The second macro is to reverse the changes made in the first and 're-lock' the unlocked cells) (and again apply the same password to the sheet).
this is the code I have used.
Sub PART_YEAR()
Sheets("2012 Calculator 1 week").Select
ActiveSheet.Unprotect "taado"
Range("D20:D23").Select
Selection.Locked = False
Selection.FormulaHidden = False
Sheets("2012 Calculator 2 week").Select
[Code]...
I am assuming I have superfluous code in there, in addition to my mistake with the reapplication of the password.

Some sensitive data is held on worksheets that are used by people that do not have access to see the data.
It would be most convenient to keep the data in these worksheets but hide it from view of the users.
Is there a way to password protect a users ability to unhide a column?

I have a very big Excel file (62 MB). I need to be able to filter by one column (FACILITY) and sort the whole file using the (REGISTRATION NO) column as well as finding the missing sequence number in the (REGISTRATION NO) column. The problem is that the (FACILITY) column has more than 200 different facility name. I am thinking of macro as I have different Spreadsheet I need to do the same steps in each one separately.
I have attached a copy (example from the data that I have) .

Using Excel 2007 I have a pivot table that counts that number of incidents based on month and year. To get the month and year I group the date field as months and years.
My problem is if I want to filter specfic months in say year 2012 it also takes out the month in 2013. I though it used to give you the option of year and date in the filter but mines are 2 seperate filters.

Using Excel 2007. When I put password protection on the template, the template child doc also gets the same password protection. I want to prevent tampering on the template, but I want the child doc to be fully editable for the end user. After all, isn't that the purpose of a template? I just don't want anyone to be able to edit the template itself, which also seems like the purpose of a template. Am I missing something about not seeing how to configure this obvious functionality?

I have a set of data points with date and time shown in the picture. I need to take out all the data point that are at the 30 min interval. Meaning I only want to have the data points hourly only. What can I do to remove the :30 minute datas.
I have tried the find option typing In :30 and getting all the points but then have to replace, which I do not want to do. Need to remove them so they do not show up on the trends ( graphs) I made for them.
This is for excel 2007.
Seems I can't get picture up on the ipad, so the data points look like this
1/1/2012 0:00
1/1/2012 0:30
1/1/2012 1:00
1/1/2012 1:30
And so on for an entire year. Just need to remove the ones with the :30

I'm using Excel 2007. I know how to protect specific cells within a worksheet, but I have not been able to find any information online pertaining to locking or protecting inserted header/footer data, even if I protect the worksheet.
I'm not concerned about setting specific VBA commands to ensure the header/footer prints, but rather preventing other users from being able to edit the data upon distribution of the worksheet.

If I use "Protect sheet" I can't select a cell or enter something into it. I sure there is some setting I have to change, but I'm not sure what to select.

I've got a workbook where I need to protect certain cells by locking them.
The trouble is when I do this I lose the ability to apply formatting and to insert symbols in other cells?
I've checked the obvious options for when you're locking cells but nothing seems to be stopping this there.
Is there a reason it disables these options, a work around or am I just being dumb?
I'm using Excel 2007 by the way.

Excel 2007 - Sorting across columns
Need to sort part of an Excel worksheet across multiple columns.
For example data is:
ABCDEF1
Machine
4394264394294394434399834399842
Model
TD860TD400TD860TD620TD6203
Pgm
OPTABCOPTEP2EP24
Start
5/31/119/1/115/1/096/15/092/1/085
End
2/28/158/31/125/31/114/30/108/31/09
I need to sort it first by Pgm, within Pgm by Model, and within Model by Machine. I do not need to sort on Start or End
The results should look like:
ABCDEF1
Machine
4394294399834399844394264394432
Model
TD400TD620TD700TD860TD8603
Pgm
ABCEP2EP2OPTOPT4
Start
9/1/116/15/092/1/085/31/115/1/095
End
8/31/124/30/108/31/092/28/155/31/11
After selecting the data to be sorted (columns B,C,D,E,F), I tried using "Sort Left to Right" under DATA-SORT-OPTIONS but it doesn't seem to work.

I'm selecting only some rows in a Table trying to sort only these rows (e.g. rows 11 thru 75 in a 200 row table), but when I hit Sort Excel always overrides my selection by selecting all the rows in the table instead. The same thing happens in VBA. I'm using Excel 2007.

I have a spreadsheet with nested subtotals. i need to sort it based on one of the nested subtotals, but maintain the rows that comprise the subtotals, together with the subtotal.
is there a way to do this? I don't want a macro because then the whole project will be done as a macro. this is just a small part of what i am doing.
sample included. my goal is to sort by column F (ABS value) high to low so that rows 8-13 are together and maintain the subtotal and on top, then rows 34-36 are together and maintain the subtotal and are next, etc.
I am in Excel 2007.
