Excel 2007 :: Sorting While Maintaining Subtotals?

May 6, 2013

I have a spreadsheet with nested subtotals. i need to sort it based on one of the nested subtotals, but maintain the rows that comprise the subtotals, together with the subtotal.

is there a way to do this? I don't want a macro because then the whole project will be done as a macro. this is just a small part of what i am doing.

sample included. my goal is to sort by column F (ABS value) high to low so that rows 8-13 are together and maintain the subtotal and on top, then rows 34-36 are together and maintain the subtotal and are next, etc.

I am in Excel 2007.

Sorting Excel Alphabetically Maintaining Spaces

I have data arranged in columns A-F. I am wanting to set it up so those groups are all based on the name in column A:

Name Location Quantity Notes Etc.

Joe Likes bread
Hates butter
Jane

Julio

Column A only takes up one space, while the other columns take up 3-4 spaces on average. I am looking to sort column A alphabetically while maintaing the spaces between so that the info doesn't become jumbled.

Excel 2007 :: Subtotals With HIDDEN Rows AND Columns Given Some Criteria

Aug 8, 2014

I am trying to develop a compliance report with Excel 2007) based upon a simple pass/fail criteria. The subtotals must be tracked both by Device (column) and by Requirement (row). There are macros (not included in the attached sample) that hides both columns and rows. I successfully found an example which I modified to correctly calculates data for a column when rows are hidden (see GOOD function below). However, I'm totally clueless on how to calculate data by row when columns are hidden (see BAD function below). What I'm trying to figure out is highlighted in red in the attached spreadsheet.

GOOD
=SUMPRODUCT(SUBTOTAL(103,OFFSET(B$2:B$5,ROW(B$2:B$5)-MIN(ROW(B$2:B$5)),,1))*(B$2:B$5="Pass"))

BAD (returns 0 and includes a circular reference)
=SUMPRODUCT(SUBTOTAL(103,OFFSET($B2:$F2,,COLUMN($B2:$F2)-MIN(COLUMN($B2:$F2)),1))*($B2:$F2="Pass"))

Excel 2007 :: Sorting Across Columns

Excel 2007 - Sorting across columns

Need to sort part of an Excel worksheet across multiple columns.

For example data is:

ABCDEF1
Machine
4394264394294394434399834399842
Model
TD860TD400TD860TD620TD6203
Pgm
OPTABCOPTEP2EP24
Start
5/31/119/1/115/1/096/15/092/1/085
End
2/28/158/31/125/31/114/30/108/31/09

I need to sort it first by Pgm, within Pgm by Model, and within Model by Machine. I do not need to sort on Start or End

The results should look like:
ABCDEF1
Machine
4394294399834399844394264394432
Model
TD400TD620TD700TD860TD8603
Pgm
ABCEP2EP2OPTOPT4
Start
9/1/116/15/092/1/085/31/115/1/095
End
8/31/124/30/108/31/092/28/155/31/11

After selecting the data to be sorted (columns B,C,D,E,F), I tried using "Sort Left to Right" under DATA-SORT-OPTIONS but it doesn't seem to work.

Excel 2007 :: Data Sorting According To Column

Jul 26, 2012

I have some data in a Excel 2007 workbook in the range a1:d100 and I want to sort the data according to "A" column, which is the first column of the range and when I am giving data sort it is prompting to select the column, where as in 2003 it will prompt to select the column but by default it will take the first column of the range, so if we want the first column the we can hit enter key otherwise need to change the column name which will save time.

My question is that whether there is any setting I can make at the time of sorting data and by default it will take the first column of the range.

Excel 2007 :: Sorting Names In Pivot Table

The result is that I have Mr Sun and Mr May at the top of my list, rather than listed alphabetically. Sorting the list does not solve the problem. It switches Mr Sun and Mr May, but does not included them in the main list. Is there a setting I can use that will stop Excel 2007 thinking that these words are something that they are not?

Excel 2007 :: List Of Numbers Not Sorting Correctly?

Oct 29, 2013

Using Excel 2007, I have a very simple spreadsheet made up of only two worksheets that I am using to track the songs played by a band during a current tour.

One worksheet is called "Summary" and the other is called "Setlists". In the Setlists worksheet I list every show played (10 shows so far), and every song played from each show. In the Summary worksheet I have very song listed that has been played during the tour in one column (A), then the number of times that song has been played in another column (B). Column B, the number of times each song has been played, is populated by a COUNTIF function that looks at the Setlists worksheet and counts each instance of each song.

What I want to do, very simply, is to sort on column B in order to display the list of songs from the most played to least played. That is where I run into a problem. When I sort my list of numbers, I end up with a seemingly random list that certainly isn't from most to least and I can't figure out why.

Is it possible that the COUNTIF function which populates that column of numbers is somehow throwing off the sort?

Excel 2007 :: Sorting Pivot Table Columns By Column Field Label (date)

Jun 30, 2014

I have a pivot table with multiple row fields and multiple column fields. One of the column fields is a Date and I need some VBA that will auto-sort the columns into ascending order by the Date column field.

E.g., if the first four column labels are "2-Jun-2010, 13-May-2009, 16-May-2013, 17-May-2012" then i want the sort to arrange them as "13-May-2009, 2-Jun-2010, 17-May-2012, 16-May-2013".

Note: This is the left to right order of the columns i'm talking about, not the top to bottom order of the rows, or the data in the rows but specifically the column labels.

I've tried googling a solution and I can find a variety of code that deals with sorting the data in the rows in all sorts of ways, but nothing on how to order the columns.

i'm using excel 07, and the source data for the pivot table has the Date field formatted as custom "dd-mmm-yyyy". This can be changed if necessary.

Excel 2010 :: Maintaining Format In A Cell When Using Formula

Jan 10, 2014

I just upgraded to Excel2010 and noticed that if I calculate percentages resulting from other formulas, the result displays as a percentage with 15 decimal places and it ignores the format of the cell. My guess is that since formulas are being used in cells A1,B1, and C1, Excel is ignoring the format. When I hard code the numbers, I obtain the desired result.

Is there a way to change the default of 15 decimal places for formula results involving inputs that use formulas in their own creation? (outside of the Round function in each cell? Within Options?)

The data looks like this:

A1 = formula resulting in 1.76%
B1 = formula resulting in 1.90%
C1 = formula resulting in 1.69%

D1 = C1*B1/A1 resulting in 1.8218147382920100%

The desired result is 1.82%.

Excel 2010 :: Making Hard Coded Cell Dynamic While Maintaining Original Content

May 16, 2014

I pulled a set of financial statements from a database into Excel. All of the values are hard coded but I would like to make them dynamic, while maintaining the original content. For example, If cell C3 is a revenue figure for 2012 ($1,000) I would like to link it to cell C5, which will be a currency conversion rate (2.0). So I would like cell C3 to read =1000*C5, which would equal 2000, and for cell D3 to equal 2013 sales*D5, etc. I would also like this to go across a specified range so that I can also change operating expenses, taxes, etc over a number of columns (dates) that I define, all linking to the conversion rate for the given year. Having another tab where you link and anchor is an option but I would prefer something in VBA where I can qickly include this functionality with new workbooks that I download.

I am using Excel 2010.

Excel 2003 :: Show And Hide Rows - Use Subtotals?

Jul 24, 2014

I have a seating plan for my students that has all sorts of data in it and I want to hide certain rows from students. However, they are not all in a group, they are spread out. So for example I have row 3 with student name, row 4 with their target grade, row 5 with their current grade, then row 6 is another student with data on 7 and 8. After that I might have a gap and then the next student on row 10 with data on 11 and 12. I want to toggle on and off the data and leave the student seats. I'm thinking that Subtotals would be the best way, but not sure how to implement it. Do I put row headings on the side? Also I haven't used subtotals since Excel 2003.

Excel 2010 :: Importing Data That Has Imbedded Cost Center Subtotals - Move To Column

Jul 29, 2014

I am trying to create a Dashboard in excel (2010) using tables/pivot tables to build it. The data I am bringing into excel has these key fields of data: cost center+cost center description, general ledger account+general ledger account description, and YTD amount.

My problem is the data is from an external source report and the report has subtotals built in at cost center, and the report's format of subtotaling puts the cost center first and then the general ledger accounts below. There is no
formula value in the cell that has the subtotaled amount and the number of general ledger accounts can vary depending on whether there has been general ledger activity.

I want to take this format:
July YTD
Cost Ctr 1050 XYZ$6.00
625110 Supplies$2.00
650150 Postage$2.00
650550 Fees$2.00
Cost Ctr 1052 ZZZ$4.00
670500 Pens$2.00

and have it look like this
Cost CenterCost Center DescrGL AcctGL Acct descYTD Amt
1050 XYZ 625110 Supplies $2.00
1050 XYZ 650150 Postage $2.00
1050 XYZ 650550 Fees $2.00
1052 ZZZ 679200 Pens $2.00

Besides manually doing data moves and assigning a unique sort sequence number to keep the records together, how else can I quickly move my cost centers to a new column and keep the cost center with the gl account and $amount?

Maintaining Row Format

Feb 28, 2007

I have a table where alternate rows are formatted with interiror colorindex 15. Macros will result in 1 or more of the rows in the table being hidden (this can be consequtive rows).

Obviously, when a row is hidden (unless that results in 2 consequtive rows hidden) the alternating row format no longer works (ie either 2 grey rows or 2 nofill rows together)

I am struggling with the code to set the format when a row is hidden. I loop through the table to set format, fine if no row hidden. But when row is hidden everything I try to do to take account of the hidden row results in an endless loop when the hidden row is encountered.

Is there any way to organize the information maintaining each cell's formats?

Maintaining A Sorted List In 2003

Jan 27, 2009

I have an Excel sheet with a list of data, which is likely to change frequently and has to remain in sorted order.

Requiring that users of the spreadsheet maintain the data in this way (i.e. sort it every time it changes) is a really bad solution and I'd rather not use a macro if I can avoid it (too much stuff can go wrong).

Is there a good way of doing this? At the moment, I've implemented merge-sort within a sheet, which works, but is a heavyweight solution, taking 6 columns per merge-sort iteration (so 60 columns to sort 1024 rows, 96 columns to sort 65536 rows). I could try to compact it, but my head was starting to implode programming it even with as few as 6 columns.

There must be a better way of getting Excel to maintain an automatically sorted list.

Doesn anyone know how I can output in B1 with the format from A1?

Adding And Deleting Rows In Worksheet While Maintaining Formulas?

Mar 26, 2014

I need to be able to add or delete rows depending on how many employees' productivity I will be tracking on any given week; each row represents a separate employee. I need the following functionality out of my form:

1) formula in column F needs to copy and paste with each new line
2) when a new line is copied and pasted I need the contents to be cleared
3) I need the user to be blocked from deleting the first row (3 on this form) in the table

The code I'm using for my "Add" button is:

[Code].....

The code I'm using for my "Delete" button is:

[Code] .....
The buttons add and delete rows as I'd like them to but content is not clearing, with each row added the contents provide a sub total. I've tried various lines of code (some more complicated and some less) before I recorded my own macro (see above).
