Excel 2007 :: Formula To Return First Cell Reference In Another Cell Formula

Oct 1, 2011

Version: Excel 2007 WinXP

I'm basically looking for something almost like an inverse function to INDIRECT. This function would first look at a cell's formula as a text string, parse out the first valid cell reference in A1 format, and return that cell as a text string.

Detail: I have a spreadsheet with cells that point to other values. I would like to get only the row number from the first cell reference in the formula residing in a given cell. For example:

Suppose A1 has the formula =AL267. and A2 has the formula =SUM(AL94:AL235)

I would like a formula in B1 that returns the text string, "AL267" so that I would know this is the first reference.

Ideally it could be dragged down to B2 such that it returns the text string "AL94" (and not "AL235") because AL94 is the first cell reference in A2's

Currently I am copying the formulas after hitting ctl+` and pasting that text into a text editor, followed by text operations to manipulate the results into the desired values. Any solution that didn't involve going out to notepad.

Return Cell Reference Of Large Formula

Jul 23, 2008

I am creating a summary financial sheet in Excel 2003, Win XP. It needs to show the top 10 sales variances from a large data list, along with the associated department.

I can bring in the top 10 largest variances using Large(array,k), but because variances are either positive or negative, I'm not really showing the true top 10. To fix this I can use absolute values via Large(abs(array),k) but then I don't know how to convert the value back to its original sign (positive or negative).

If I could somehow get the cell reference that the Large(abs(array),k) formula points to, I could do something like this:

=Large(abs(array),k) * (Large Cell Reference/Large Cell Reference)

I'm afraid to use the address function because of duplicate sales variances. I often have several variances of with same value, so I might not truly be pulling the address that the large(abs(array),k) is pointing to.

Excel 2007 :: Converting Formula From Absolute To Relative Reference?

Aug 13, 2013

I am migrating a bookkeepping spreadsheet from Quattro v12 (c2001) to Excel 2007 and have hit a stone wall over relative 3-D references.

In this workbook each sheet holds data for one month, and this includes some lagging-12-month calculations -- that is, summing a range on a single cell for the preceding 12 sheets (including this one).

Unexpectedly, this formula:
=ISUM('201206:201305'!M6)

gives absolute references, even though I put in no dollar signs after the sheet names. This means it gives the wrong answer when copied to the next sheet to start a new month.

I can find no reference at all to converting the above formula from absolute to relative reference.

Excel 2007 :: Not Being Allowed To Input Formula With Reference To Another Workbook

For example, I being typing out my VLOOKUP function on 1 sheet, as soon as I get the table argument, I switch over to the other workbook in which the table is, and I no longer have the VLOOPKUP function active.

I am having this problem for any formula in which I am trying to reference this workbook.

Excel 2010 :: Reference Cell Value Not Formula

Jun 4, 2014

Excel 2010. When the result of the formula in Col. E is less than zero, I need to move the row to another sheet, and then delete the row.

I modified another poster's script as follows:

Private Sub Workbook_SheetChange(ByVal Sh As Object, ByVal Target As Range)
' Move rows with negative value in E to Flagged Items sheet
Dim rng As Range
' Set Target Range
Set rng = Target.Parent.Range("E2:E200")

[Code] ........

The script works perfectly if a negative value is manually entered into a cell in Col. E, but not when the result of the formula produces a negative number.

I can't find a way to make the Case Is < 0 act on the resultant value rather than the formula.

Is this possible in the script or is there another way to achieve the desired result?

I want the cells in sheet "Data Input" to look something like "='newsheet'E26"

Excel 2007 :: VBA - Place Formula X On Sheet Y In Cell Z?

Jun 1, 2012

Excel 2007 I have 80 very similar sheets. The only difference is the sheet name (Phase A (1), Phase A (2) etc.). I want the formula located in cell B5 to be different on every sheet.

I have listed the desired formulas on a single seperate worksheet, named "Overview". On this sheet, the following columns have these data in them:
A - Sheetname (example: Phase A (1), Phase A (2) etc.)
B - Cell location (example B5, constant)

C - A formula (example: =Sheet1!G47, =Sheet1!G48, etc.)

I would like to create a macro that will loop through all the sheets, doing the following:
1. Check if the sheetname exists in column A of the Overview sheet
2. If it does, take the formula from column C of the Overview sheet
3. And put it in the cell specified in column B of the Overview sheet

Here is some code, to illustrate the above. I know the code is mostly nonsensical.

Code:
Sub Enter_formulas()
Dim ws As Worksheet
For Each ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets

[Code]....

Excel 2007 :: Reference A Cell That Is 10 Rows Below The Cell That Is Being Referenced To In Row Above

Dec 28, 2013

If C5 refers to the value in cell C100, C6 refers to the value in C110 ten rows below. C7 refers to C120, ten rows below that and so on. Is there a formula that you use within excel (not a macro) that allows me to copy the C7 formula to C8 so that C8 will reference C130?

I have tried using INDIRECT and OFFSET formulas but cannot do it without an absolute reference to a fixed cell, which defeats the purpose, since I can go into C8 and manually change it to =C130, C9 to =C140 etc.

Currently using Excel 2007 at work and Mac Pro at home. Thought about R1C1 reference, but don't even know how to change to that style on my Mac.

Excel 2007 :: Why Does Using Cell References In Formula Give Incorrect Value

Sep 30, 2011

Surely it's user error, but it honestly seems like Excel is not calculating 2 numbers correctly. At work, we have office 2010 where it is not calc'ing correctly; at home I have 2007 and it's fine, but anyway, here's my situation:

Cell A1: 0.003529
Cell B1: 0.48

If i put in Cell C1: "=B1/A1" i get a value of 136.000000 But that's not correct, it should be 136.01587... But if in Cell C1 i put "=0.48/.003529" then i get 136.01587...which is correct.

Why does using cell references in my formula give me the incorrect value?

Excel 2007 :: Real Time Formula Change When Cell Selected

I am an Excel 2007 user.

I have a formula (below) that looks only at records based on specific filtering criteria or conditions; one of those conditions is the month of the year: ('Data Dump'!$Q:$Q,Summary!$A$26). This portion of the formula would change as a month is selected.

Opposed to having to rewrite the formula every time that I want to view a specific month, I want to automate the formula to change the first condition when a user selects a month from Column A. This would be a real time, automatic refiltering and recalculation as the user selects different months from Column A

Change Formula Cell Reference Based On Another Cell Reference

Jan 8, 2012

How do I change a formula cell reference based on another cell's reference? I'm building a schedule that looks to a task's trigger and adds days based on that relationship. All entries in column "A" will be text and all cells in "B" will be the simple formula "=A2" or "=A3". Due date is calculated by adding the value in "C" to the preceding date in column "D". In the spreadsheet below, the trigger for "Budget set" is "Specs written" with 3 days added to the previous due date.

________A________________B_____________C_________D
1 Task___________Trigger_____________Days_____Due Date
2 Design begins__Proj OK______________10____10-Jan
3 Specs written__Design begins (A2)____5____15-Jan (D2+C3)
4 Budget set_____Specs written (A3)____3____18-Jan (D3+C4)

If the trigger for A4, "Budget set", changed from A3 to A2, is there a way that the formula that determines the due date in D4 could read the trigger cell reference in B4 so that the value in the corresponding row in column "C" is added in the date column?

Maintaining Cell Reference According To Its Physical Position From Formula Cell?

Jan 29, 2014

I need to make a cell display the contents of the cell immediately below it, regardless of if there are rows inserted at the referenced row or above or below it on the worksheet. ALSO I need to do this at several additional cell locations down the worksheet. Such as : A1 displays A2, A4 displays A5, A7 displays A8 etc.

Example: I want A1 to display whatever is in the cell immediately below it. In this case A2. I need to be able to insert several rows at row 2 and have whatever new value is now in the A2 position displayed in A1.
After the rows are inserted I need the cell that was in position A4 to continue to display the contents of the cell below it.

I tried using the formula in A1 of: =INDIRECT("A2") and it works good except when I insert the rows my similar formulas below the area where the rows were inserted continue to refer to the specific original cell and not the one positioned now below it.

Convert Cell Reference Text To Cell Formula

Aug 18, 2009

I am wanting to convert a cell reference text
"=$A$1"
to an actual cell reference
=$A$1

Manually I can go through each cell and click F2 + Enter and Excel automatically changes it.

I have tried recording a macro whereby I click through each cell with F2 + Enter but the VBA writes the actual formula "=$A$1" rather than the process. This does not work as the cell reference is variable.

I'm NOT wanting an external cell to convert it for me
i.e. INDIRECT(CELL)
because I am wanting to copy the answer to another independent spreadsheet

I'm NOT wanting to paste values
i.e. return the answer from cell $A$1
because I want the cell reference to remain within the cell.
