I have a spreadsheet with a couple of hundred rows on each tab that looks like this: A1: #1 PENROSE TIJUANA MAMA PCH 2620039190 665794 12.00 CT 1 Front 1 1 1. The only constant is the 10 digit number followed by the 6 digit number in the middle and I want to use it to parse the text string. I want the output to be everything prior to the 10 digit number in A1, the 10 digit number in B1, the 6 digit number in c1 and everything else in D1 and so on through the rows.

Extracting Number Of Seconds From Variable Text String?

I have a column of cells, each with a with text string that has three possible formats where I want to extract the total number of seconds.

The three formats are:

nnn hrs nn min nn sec (example: 1 hrs 42 min 58 sec)
or
nn min nn sec (example: 55 min 1 sec)
or
nn sec (example: 10 sec)

The result I want is a numeric value of the total number of seconds in the text string.

For example a text string of: 1 hrs 42 min 58 sec

Should give the result: (1 x 3600) + (42 x 60) + 58 = 6,178

Now I want to extract ONLY the customer no from the text string in column B and insert it as number value in column A on the same row.

Would have been easy with "Left" command, but as the customer numbers have variable length, I have a problem.

I have a list of English game results with the score and the soccers of the game.

E.g. : [Steinsson 34, Davies 41, Elmander 46; Fuller 91]

As you can see in the excel, what Im trying to do is to find the time i.e which is the numbers in the field and display them seperately onto the cells beside. So what i need is to Find and extract these numbers 34,41,46,91 and paste them just beside cell on the list.

I can use formula but i can only display 1 number, so i think this might require a VBA script.Thanks in advance guys..

Find The Longest String Including A Variable

I have a database application which appends an "A" to the sequence number each time an entry is amended and then posts it as a new row in the database. This means there can be multiple entries with the same number but with different amount of "A"'s afterwards.

e.g.
Cell A6 contains seq no 1
Cell A7 contains seq no 2 - Seq no 1 is subsequently amended so...
Cell A8 contains seq no 1A - 1A is subsequently amended so...
Cell A9 contains seq no 1AA - and so on and so forth..........

What i am trying to achieve is a formula which will look at the record number which is required (i.e. 1) and will search for record 1 with the most number of "A"'s appended. This way the user will only be amending the most up to date record.

The formula i have tried (but doesn't work) is:

=INDEX(A6:A65536,MATCH(B2&MAX(LEN(A6:A65536)),A6:A65536,1),0)

(B2 is the record the user wants to amend)

I need to store a known index, unknown value in a variable so I can increase the value and use it in a database. It is used as a version number for a part and the versions go like: "00" -> "AA" -> "AB" -> .... -> "AZ" -> "BA"... etc.

Restricting Text And Number List To Finite Column Size

I have a long list of data: a unique number identifier that needs to be grouped with text. Right now they are in two separate columns. I would like to have two large columns on a page, as if you were looking through a phone book. I have been trying to get this list to load into a finite number of rows before it breaks into another column on the same page. Then moves to the next page, so about 30 rows that are set 8 rows down on a page to account for company letter head.

I haven't paired the text and numbers together at all. But I haven't been able to find a way to have them move in a way that maintains their correspondence. I have gotten my numbers to move into the row column set I have wanted but not the text.

Hey I got a long String like this "[...] increase of x.xx% [...]".

I am trying to extract only the percentage number which can be of variable length, so maybe 900.99% or 9.99%.

I tried this formula:
=MID(G14,SEARCH("%",G14)-5,5)
but this one doesnt bring the right results as the percentage figure is often not exactly 5 characters long.

Excel 2011 :: Find Multiple Text Strings In Another Text String

How do I use an Excel formula to find which (if any) multiple sets, each of up to 50 words, exist in a series of rows of a spreadsheet - if set A has one or more words found in a searched cell.

A positive result will return a specific value in the designated result cell. If none of the words in Set A is found in the searched cell, the formulae will repeat the test for the words in Set B, and so on.

After all 50 sets of words have been tested, the formula will move to the next cell in the searched column.

New words will be added to the sets of words continually as required.

Multiple words within sets are included in double quotes. Within each set of words there will be some n-tuples of words (i.e. 24 adjacent words) that contain one or more of the words in the set, but for which the formula will be required to return a negative result. Example: Set A = word 1, word2, word 3, "word1 word2 word3". (The words within a set could also be each entered in separate columns, as opposed to all included in a single cell.) The single column of text to be searched is about 10,000 rows.

I am wanting to use the above in a spreadsheet that contains data downloaded from a series of bank accounts to automatically allocate items of expenditure to one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.

The formula will search the description field to find words that are used in the in the downloaded files from the various accounts to describe each transaction.

If a word describing travel expenditure (e.g. hotel, "holiday inn" but not "holiday travel") is found in the description of an expenditure item - the item cost will be allocated to the TRAVEL EXPENDITURE column, which is one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.

Happy to consider a different solution if the task can be done better a different way.

Tried using a combination of INDEX/SEARCH/IF in Excel, but was not able to get a correct result. PS I am using Excel 2011 for Mac - which does not allow macros, so the solution needs to be entirely formula based.

I am working with data where I need to extract a 10-digit number from a string. Where the 10-digit number is in the string varies, so I can't use a simple left/len combination. Here's an example below:

Something and email@me.com 1234567890 stuff thingsThe formula I am using now is this:

=MID(F4,MIN(FIND({0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9},F4&"0123456789")),10)

This finds the first number in a string and returns that number and the next 9 digits for a total of a 10-digit string (so it would return 1234567890). However, I run into an issue when I have a string that has numbers in the email address.

So this:

number in email123@me.com 1234567890 exampleWould return this:

123@me.comIs there a way to modify the formula above so that it searches for 10 consecutive numbers and not just the first number in a string?

I am trying to create a macro (please look the attached excel what I have done), I have already crwated a macro that after 5 seconds is gonna change the background color of the of the cell en function of another cell.

That means if F3:F4 change the background color F8:is going to change the backgorung color also, every 5 seconds. The macro I wrote is also include in the excel attached file.

Now this is my problem... I have a variable cell that is give for D6 which could be A,B,C,D,E,F (Range F2:K2).

If the variable cell D6 is A the background color of F8:F9 should be the background color F3:F4 .

If the variable cell D6 is B the background color of F8:F9 should be the background color G3:G4 .

If the variable cell D6 is C the background color of F8:F9 should be the background color H3:H4 ......and etcetera.

In cell B1 I want "Company ABC DEF"
In cell C1 I want "10.50%"
In cell D1 I want "12/13/2014"

String:

how the MID formulas work (as a bonus)? I used =MID(A1,FIND(")",A1,1)+2,45) and it returns "10.50% 12/13/2014".

So I see that that formula says start from 1 character after ")", count 2 over, and then put in the next 45 characters. How do I do an in between amount, and how do I just have it come from the LEFT but stop when it finds " ("

I have 4 columns in which is text combined with numbers (Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet t-shirt LPW01-B consectetur adipiscing.) I need to search every column and cells in them for a word/string which is written in R2 and replace the word in every cell by the word in S2

So for example, in R2 is "t-shirt" and in S2 is "potato"

The program finds the entry: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet t-shirt LPW01-B consectetur adipiscing." and replace it with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet potato LPW01-B consectetur adipiscing."

Find Text String In A Value Instead Of In A Formula

What formula can I use to search a range of cell values for a specific text string? My method is searching formulas instead, which is not what I want.

Background: I am developing a little test script for a project and I want to include some automatic validations to help make the job of the testers easier.

What I have set up so far:

1. Testers input numbers into specific fields M8 through M20.

2. Fields N8 through N20 automatically check fields M8 through M20 and compare those with what is contained in a range of hidden cells I set up in advance. A formula ensures that it reports "correct" or "incorrect" on a field-by-field basis, based on the comparison.

3. Cell O8 searches for the text string "incorrect" in cells N8 through N20. If that text string appears in any one of the cell values (not formulas), then O8 directs the tester to test again. If the text string "incorrect" does not appear, then cell O8 reports that the test was successful, and the tester can proceed to the next test (exact same setup repeats).

My only problem is in the formula used for the last step. I have tried a few different formulas I know in cell 08, but none are giving me the results I'm looking for. The closest I have come is a successful search and validation based on the string being in the formula instead of in the value of the given cell.

I am trying to be able to input a value in column A and the string of text in column B will be affected by the value that I put in Column A. And i want to be able to do this with multiple rows with multiple values. Example:

My string of text in column B remains the same until the value of Column A changes. The find/replace will overwrite the "" in the string. This is my string of text in Column B: "^cCHT;all;;t;g;F1;F1;;all;;t;g;F2;F2;;all;;"

A1 value = "ABC"
Resulting Text in B1 = "^cCHT;all;;t;g;F1;F1ABC;;all;;t;g;F2;F2ABC;;all;;"

I know that I can accomplish this by creating a button but I was wondering if there is a more automated way like a formula in a cell or something.

I have a monthly report. Worksheets for each month, each row is a type of fruit (column A), and the number sold (column B). A new worksheet is added each month with the information. I also have a Summary worksheet - running total of all months: Type of Fruit (column A), Number sold (column B), and Total of all fruits - number sold. I would like a formula for the Summary worksheet - to match that fruit (column A) to any of the other worksheets - matching the fruit (column A), and bring back the number sold (column B). (note some apples are Fuji and some are Honey crisp - those would be totaled together)
