I would love to be able to click on an assigned button in a new sheet, and a pop box appears.
Then I can type in a word, click find, and the macro will go through my whole list of keyword phrases and find all the words STARTING with the word chosen in the pop up box.
Yes, I could just sort from a-z, find the word, then copy and paste etc.
But I work with large lists sometimes, and its just so much easier to type the word, click find and the macro returns the list of just the phrases with the starting word I've chosen
As a note. I did put a post up a while ago which a coder called Jindon solved which works perfectly. (A great job by the grand master)
This macro finds the words ending with.
So, what I would really like is exactly the same macro, but it finds words at the start of a phrases not the end of a phrase.
I'll post Jindon's macro now
Sub Find_Words_Ending_In()
Dim sTime As Single, res As String, msg As String, x As Range
Range("c3:c" & Rows.Count).ClearContents
res = InputBox("Enter word to find")
If res = "" Then Exit Sub
sTime = Timer
On Error Resume Next................
In ColA From A 3 downwards I have a large list of keyword phrases.
I am looking for a macro where I click on a assigned macro button and a pop up box appears saying " Find words Ending With" In the space provided I insert a word.
So, for example I insert the word "rent".
The macro then looks at all the data in ColA (From A 3 downwards) and searches for all keyword phrases ending with the word "rent".
If it could return All Phrases in ColC (From C3 downwards).
If it can't find any, then if a pop up box can appear saying something like "No Data Found"
That's it really. If it could have a pop up box at the end saying "Total Phrases Scanned: 1234" " Total Phrases Found Ending With "In" "Time Elapsed (sec.): 12.12353
I am trying to find certain words in a column and delete the word and characters following. For example, Say I have a column of info as seen below. This is a test of me. I am just experimenting with this stuff. Deleted (6/15/01) Let me know what you think. I am not sure about it all, but I guess I will figure it out. riviledge1 (01/05/06) Now let's see what happens when I try to test it.
I want to find all the "Priviledge1 (01/05/06)" and replace with nothing. Please note, the date will change with each record, so I need to figure out how to tell Excel to find "Priviledge1", delete it and the date behind it. So I want to delete "Priviledge1" and the next 11 characters including the space.
I'm looking for a macro to remove all words (in a single word per cell format) in a range (approx 100 columns & 7000 rows), except for a list of 100 words.
I have a list with all our company cars (300). I also have a list with all the transactions of the fuel cards (12000 lines). Now I need the find for every company car (exact match) the nearest fuel-consumption-date (closest match to the given starting date) and take the mileage of that transaction. I've added an example. I have tried linking carnr and date (like carnr&"#"&date) and match these, but I don't always get the right car number.
My data is set out in columns, where alternate columns provide day numbers for given years (we can call these type 1 columns), with adjacent columns containing values which correspond to those type 1 column day numbers (we can call these type 2 columns). There are about a hundred columns in total (50 of each type). I would like to get excel to return the three largest numbers within each type 2 column, but I want to exclude data within the type 2 column above the point which is adjacent to a specific (varying) day number in the type 1 column. The location of this point varies for all the type 1 columns, according to a third row of numbers (the look up start point), which are currently listed below the dataset in every type 1 column. So, for the type 1 column "year 1", I would want Excel to ignore the values 0 and 1, which are listed next to day numbers 78 and 79, and begin looking for the three largest values down the column starting from the value which is adjacent to 81 (which is a 2). In type 1 column "year 2", excel would start looking for the largest values from the cell adjacent to 78, so it would ignore the 18 at the top of the column, and would return 2 and 12. And so on.
I have Ctrl+x to run a macro and it is not working. I have used it before fine, but made modifications this time and am having problems now. I'll just show the code for now and can give more details if the fix is not obvious.
I want to build a Macro that basically moves right of the cell I am in a few cells and then copies and pastes this info into another worksheet and then prints this worksheet.
However, I can't seem to build a macro that will run from whatever cell I am in.
Everytime and try it just goes from the cell I was in when I recorded the macro.
For instance, if i build the Macro in row 1, but then want to run the marco in row 23, it keeps going back to row 1 whenever I press play.
I know there must be a way of telling it "move right 5 cells from whatever cell is highlighted when the Macro is run...etc"
I am using the code below to search an Excel worksheet for a pre-determined word and then delete the row the word is found in. It works fine, but I what I really need it to do is search for several pre-determined words and delete the rows.
column A has text column B needs a Formula that returns specific value(s) ie. want to find any of 17 specific strings within a row in column A and return that (those) string value(s) in column B
for example row1 column A contains the following: Troubleshooter Notes: Sound KVSND Tree was not used as doc exists that covered the specific issue
The formula in column B needs to be able to find any of the following values (note: these values could be placed in a lookup table): "KVBAT" "KVBLTH" "KVDNW" "KVDOC" "KVDWB" "KVFLSH" "KVKBD" "KVLAN" "KVODD" "KVOTH" "KVPFS" "KVRCVY" "KVSB2" "KVSFT" "KVSND" "KVVID" "KVWFI"
and place the found value(s) in row 1 column B
in the above example column B would return the value:.............
The idea is try to search the words from Column C in Column A and if some key is found, show value from Column C (As a simple Vlookup but column A contains sentences):
A B C D
This is a test test 1 This is a tst excel 2 test case 3 tst 3 case for excel test 4 tst nº 5
Excel1.JPG
And expected result should be: (column B, contains the formula):
A B C D
This is a test 1 test 1 This is a tst 3 excel 2 test case 3 1 tst 3 case for excel 2 test 4 1 tst nº 5 3
Excel2.JPG
The idea is not to use. Column C could have more of 1000 entries.
Very simple program I think, can either be solved by build-in functions or macro. So situation is I have a table, where the D column, contains certain words.
Now I have table where the M1:M10 column contains the same words and the corresponding column (N) contains the value.
So for example , cell D5= "A" and I find that cell M6 is also "A" so I then go at cell N6 which has the value "3.3". So now I want I5 to have the value 3.3 in it.
In Summary, I want the value of the n column copied into column I. Now I have plenty of rows in the D column so I prefer a fast way.
What I am trying to do isn't very complicated. I started on some code, but it's just not good enough to do all of what needs to happen.
A B C
1 Cupcake Monster Aisle 5 Shelf H
2 The Cupcake Ghoul Aisle 2 Shelf P
3 Fred Baxter's Diary Aisle 1 Shelf X
4 Angry Cupcake Beast Aisle 3 Shelf A
5 Everyone Loves Cake Aisle 4 Shelf R
So I have a list of titles that I want to search for a particular string. The title in this list is the "proper" title, whereas the rest of my workbook typically uses a shortened version of the title. Sometimes the two will match 100%, but usually, they will be close.
If the string in the table above has more than 2 words, I want to use the first 2 words to check for a match. If the string has 2 words (will never have fewer), I want to match the first word. I want to do this IF there is no 100% match (if possible or reasonable). I will settle for just matching 1 or 2 words. I want to copy the values to another sheet and then delete the row that I originally got the data from.
What I want to do is search the list for "Angry Cupcake" and return the Aisle and Shelf location of Angry Cupcake Beast. There will never be any other "Angry Cupcake", so I am not worried about mismatches there.
Code: Dim SearchRow As Integer Dim StoryTitle As String
....
how to do and can get to work without issues is an exact match. This still leaves out all of the shortened titles though.
I have received a workbook containing lists, unfortunately the names are listed in individual cells - several per cell, separated by commas. I need to highlight wherever a particular name occurs without splitting the data from the cell, ie like Find but within the cell.
I have a spreadsheet with 65000 potential client surnames in column c, with contract details in neighbouring columns. I have also a spreadsheet of 6000 actual client surnames. I would like to search the large spreadsheet to make sure that none of the clients are contained in it, or if some are to highlight them.
Do I use advanced filter or vlookup? I use excel 2000 and due to the size of the first spreadsheet it takes 6 minutes to open/save e.t.c.
I have an issue with VLOOKUP. By runnig VLOOup we can get the data that there is present in a specified range. But how about to get the data DISPLAYED which is not there in the specified range. I tried combining IF and VLOOKUP functions. I am on a simple project now and I would be happy if I could get the answer immeidately
I have a macro that I run repeatedly in a certain type of spreadsheet that does an export on a selection, pulls up a "Save As" message box and saves as a text file. There are 9 sheets in the workbook that contain the same data analysis for a set of samples, the only difference between them being the number of data (e.g. some may have 1500, 1400, 1600, etc.). I only select three columns of data to export (I6:K????) that contain counts (1,2,3,....), x-coordinates and y-coordinates. The counts column (I) uses a formula that only counts if there is an x-coordinate next to it (Col J).
.....
Generally, what I do to make quick work out of selecting the variable ranges is to select Sheets 03-11 (the first nine sheets) and select K6:I6 (starting w/ K6). Then, on each individual sheet, I do CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN to select all the relevant data (if I started my selection with I6, then it would select all cells that contained formulas which may or may not have x,y-coordinates adjacent to them). Once the data is selected (I6:K????), I run the export macro and save the data as text. I would like a macro that can automate the selection for each Sheet 03-11, excluding Sheets "all", "data" and "summary", and run the export macro, first prompting me for a file location and a file prefix. When the text file is saved, it uses the file prefix and Worksheet name to build the filename, i.e. "pathprefix_wkshtname".
I've attached an example workbook : 20120511_Au-cit_pH5_test.xlsx
see attached spreadsheet. In sheet 1 I would like to look up each word in column D, seeing if they are in column B at all. Note if the word "Jill" is in D and "jilly" in a surname in B I would like it to get picked up. I have highlighted manually those that would get picked up. Those that do get picked up I would like to be copied into column C as per sheet 2 (this is what I would like it to end up like). There is a very long winded way of doing this using a find function and 1 column per word but as the actual sheet i'm using has thousands of different words this isn't really viable!
I have two different lists that have some similar text and some irrelevant text. What I need to do is move the matching words from column B to the same row in column a and leave blank the rows that have no similar words. Column A will not move ...
I have collected some data on economic factors for different countries. Unfortunately, the dates when I started to calculated my economic factors are different for each country (due to the data available to me).
What I would like Excel to have done is to take the date when I started to measure for e.g. country A (D3 ie 30/06/2007), copy it into column "I" (for country A, it's cell I3) and fill in the following months in the rows below (with always the date of the last day of a month) until it reaches 28th of Feb 2013. Then, it should go up to the next country (country B) take the starting date (D4, ie 31/07/2007), go to the last entry in "I" (ie I71) and paste the date in, fill in the months until 28th of Feb 2013, do the same for country C and so on.
I have started to code a VBA but I am unfortunately a beginner in VBA and totally stuck at the moment. My VBA code does paste in the months but for some reason, it also changes the starting date of the first month.
Moreover, I tried a workaround for the fact that Excel doesnt know when to stop; ie I introduced a "monthdiff" variable which should calculate the number of months between the starting date (which is variable and unique for each country) and the end date (which is always 28th of Feb 2013). At the moment, it only does this for country A.
VB: Set rng = ActiveSheet.Range("I3" & Cells(monthdiff, "I").Address)
I have tried to make this dynamic but have been unsuccessful so far.
Spreadsheet with data&code is attached.
VB: Sub Macro1() Dim mainrange As Range Dim rng As Range
I have a column of text strings on Sheet1, Column A, which I need to check for the presence of keywords listed on Sheet2, Column A
So if any word from the keyword list on Sheet2, Column A is found in, say, cell A2 of Sheet1, the cell to its right (B1) should have a formula to display the count of keywords found in A2. I also would like to see each keyword identified either through a highlight or a list. I need the formula to NOT be case sensitive and the match does not have to be for whole words).
I've been racking my brains trying to find a way of doing this. I have a list (column A in Excel) of over 50,000 organisations and I'd like to know what the most common words used in the names are. Ideally it would great if I could produce a top 10 list of the most common words at the top e.g. Ltd, School or Church with a count in the next column of how times that word it appears
