Copying Pivot Table To New Sheet - Chart Data Range Grayed Out
Jun 4, 2012I have a user that uses pivot tables and charts every month to do a report. He wants to copy his charts every month and then just change the month in the data for the pivot table, but not matter what he tries its tied to the previous month and then chart data range in the select data source properties is grayed out. how to get this to work?

Oct 8, 2008I have Excel 2007 and a local copy of worksheet that was previously shared.
There are some fields that refer to broken hyperlinks that I wish to remove, however the "Remove Hyperlink" is grayed out.
Note: The "Pointing Up Hand" appears when mouse cursor is within these fields with broken hyperlinks. I wish this not to occur.

Dec 2, 2012I put the "Insert new equation" button on my "Quick Access Toolbar" but it is grayed-out, as in, unavailable. The weird thing is, I also have a "Insert Equation" button on the same toolbar, clicking that opens a small menu of ready stored equations and at the bottom there is another "Insert new equation" button, that is also grayed out. However simply clicking the "Insert Equation" icon puts allows me to insert a new equation, as it should be. The same is true for the "Insert Equation" button in the "Insert" tab.
I am working on a new excel file, i.e. it is a .xlsx file with only one sheet. It worked for me before but I did a windows reinstall and now it doesn't.
Also while on that subject in Word 2010 you can put a "Insert Symbol" button on the "Quick Access Toolbar" which, when clicked, opens a small menu of recently used symbols, while its Excel counterpart directly opens the entire Symbol catalog. Any way to put a button on the Excel "Quick Access Toolbar" that behaves like its Word 2010 sibling?
Excel 2007 :: Paste Grayed Out When Attempting To Copy Or Cut
Oct 28, 2013copy or cut then paste - paste grayed out in excel 07 tried several popular fixes from the web without luck.
Tried: the Excel repair and diagnose tool
Tried: uninstall / reinstall Excel program as well
Tried: go into Hikey - user - software - Microsoft - excel - new - 32 binary and tried adding new rule
Tried: Close Excel.2. Go to C:Documents and Settings[userID]Application DataMicrosoftExcel3. Delete the XLB file.4. Open Excel (the XLB file will be recreated - like the normal.dot) ------> This one - I could not find the XLB file - looked everywhere.
Tried: Open excel hit alt-f11 (to get to the VBE) hit ctrl-g (to see the immediate window) type this and hit enter: application .command bars ("cell").reset Then back to excel to test it."
Excel 2007 :: Macros Enabled But Record Macro Grayed Out
Apr 14, 2008I have excel 2007 and I want to record a macro. I have enabled all macros via the Trust Center settings and have even saved the current workbook (created from scratch in 2007) to a macro-enabled version.
But when I click on the 'developer' toolbar, 'record macro' is grayed out.
Excel 2007 :: Can't Edit Cell - Unprotected Button On Changes Group Tab Grayed Out?
Jul 28, 2014I'm trying to change a cell in a 2007 workbook but I'm getting this message:
"the cell or chart that you are trying to change is protected and therefore read only. To modify a protected cell or chart first remove the protection using the unprotect sheet command (review tab, changes group) you may be prompted for a password."
However, the unprotect button on the changes group tab is greyed out (the protect button is available though). The workbook isn't password protected and I'm not being asked for a password. What am I missing?

Mar 2, 2012I want to be able to run a macro that will export some of the data from a worksheet called Generated Report into another worksheet called Matrix. The data will be taken Generated REport and grouped into sections of the worksheet. These sections will be defined by the BRID value.
The Data that i want to export will be from the first 5 columns within the Generated Report(note there are other columns which data is not required from).
The following columns will be exported from Generated Report -
BRID,Requirement, Bug Description, Bug ID and Alt Bug ID.

For Matrix
The data will be imported into Matrix worksheet into the following columns as part of the row headings
- Requirement, Description, Bug ID and VF Bug ID.There will also be other columns (outlined below) which i will use to manually enter data
The data will be grouped and imported into the relevant section by its BRID eg PQ115, PQ116 etc.
I want each section (marked by BRID number)to be separated by row headings.
These row headings are to be generated after populating all data within each BRID number.
When the data has been populated in each row there is a column called 'Status' which contains drop down list boxes which can be assigned.
The default status will be set to 'To Do'. The complete row headings are displayed with Output from Generated Report underneath

So far the macro that i have been using allows me to locate the data for each specific BRID in Generated Report and copy into the corresponding BRID section within the Matrix. I have to repeat this step for each new BRID and i want to be able to whole automate this process.

Import Multiple Text Files & Copy Each Import
Jan 29, 2008I'm attempting to import around 200 (and growing!) separate text files into Excel. I am using the formula below to import the text file and then using a separate macro to select the information I need, copy it into another spreadsheet, and then run the import macro again.
However, I have a problem in that my import macro gives me 'Run-time error '1004:
Application defined or user defined error''. At first this wasn't a problem as the information is pasted into the spreadsheet despite the error anyway. However, now that I am looping the macro it is obviously causing more problems as it prevents the loop. I would really appreciate it if anyone knows of a work-around or can spot an error in the coding to resolve this!

External Data In Spreadsheet Without Having To Import All The Data
Aug 6, 2009I'm wondering if I can use external data in an excel spreadsheet without having to import all the data. I basically need a persistent connection with the external data and I want the excel spreadsheet to get the item descriptions by using the item number as the user types in the item number. Writing out the descriptions is killing me and I have all my products in an excel spreadsheet already. I really need someway to link two separate excel files together. One with data and one with user input that searches that data as I type in the item number.

First I have to clear the worksheet Invoice_Plan (file Financialplan.xls), but the whole row(s) that have data in column F (comment) have to stay on worksheet.

Mar 3, 2008I am trying to import data from an external source file (Excel) into an Excel sheet that will get uploaded into a db accounting system.
The source data varies month to month in the number of rows and need I to import 7 columns.
The upload file will be saved as a text file for the upload.
I tried to use Import External Data, but since the rows vary in size (anywhere from 1 - 2000 rows) I had to create a named range for the entire column. Upon saving this caused all rows beyond the last row of data to have quotes in them which will kill the upload.
Is there a way around this with the Import External Data, or is there a better way through some combination of INDEX, MATCH, INDIRECT or the like?

Aug 7, 2007I am trying to import data from different spreadsheets "about 100" to a principal spreadsheet which will have all the centralized data. I included the principal spreadsheet layout and a sample of two detail spreadsheets. The information that I want to import is from column B 1 to 5 from the detail spreadsheets and put into the principal spreadsheet from row D to G.
Is there any way to import this information automatically, like creating a macro or something similar.

Each category has its own worksheet and i want to put the data for each category onto the corresponding worksheet. I am having a difficult time describing this so I have attached a brief example. Dec 26, 2007I'm trying to pull in data from another Excel workbook which gets updated on a regular basis. Using the Import External Data fucntion in Excel I created a query which pulls the data from the original workbook into a tab in the workbook I'm using. The issue I'm having is that not all of the column headers get pulled in when using the Import External Data function. I tried typing the column headers in myself but they disappear again after refreshing the data set. Any ideas what is causing the issue?
