Locking And Protecting Certain Cells - Filtering Columns

Jan 22, 2013

I have a spreadsheet where I need to lock certain cells, only problem is this then takes away the ability to filter the columns which I also still need in that spreadsheet.

Is there a way to lock cells so that they can not be edited but also keep the filtering function?

Locking Cells And Protecting Sheet

Feb 14, 2007

A1 is number of days available
this sheet goes to a routing recepient from me who fills A2 and B2. C2 and D2 are calculated.
A2 has starting date
B2 has ending date
C2 is days between these two dates
D2 is number of days left i.e. A1-C2

I want to lock and protect cells A2,B2,C2 and D2 so that these cannot be changed when I route it back to get next set of dates to be filled by the same person.

Locking Conditional Formatting In 2000: Copy/paste Text From Other Cells Or Columns Even Other Workbooks

Jul 27, 2009

I have a column "g" with this conditional formatting:- =A2<>A3 Format Bottom Border.
However I will pass this workbook onto someone else who will fill in the text in column "g". They will use copy/paste text from other cells or columns even other workbooks that will not have the conditional formatting.

I have used Cells > Projection > Locked unchecked then used Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet and checked all. There does not seem to be a way to unlock the cell but protect Conditional formatting. Each time I copy and paste from other non formatted cells it wipes out my formatting.

Locking Columns On A Questionnaire Spreadsheet

Sep 16, 2009

I am trying to develop a questionnaire spreadsheet using a ranking system. I have different questions (based on certain criterias) and four columns for each question: NEVER | SOMETIMES | MOST OF THE TIME | ALWAYS.

I want to see if there is a way that I can lock the other three cells when the user has chosen a particular column by typing an X. BY doing so, I want to ensure that the user will not choose two options (or columns) instead of only one, because if he/she does it will mess the other calculations that are not shown within the table. Only the input and output are shown.

Column List Sorting Locking 2 Columns Together

Sep 24, 2006

This should be a simple question for those who have the knowledge. I am making a 2 column excel page, the first column will have an authors name and the second one will have the book name. I need to lock these two columns together so that author name and book name always stay together (side by side) on the sort command. I need to be able to sort by author or book title and I realize that it gives you the choice to expand the selection, but I can't trust that the others (kids) will realize the importance of doing so. This is going to be a very large list with hyperlinks and I can't afford to chance whether someone else will select the correct command. So a long story short. I want to build a list that can be sorted by author name or book name and be sure that the correct author will always be beside the correct book, but that are able to be independantly sorted

Locking Different Cell Ranges Then Locking Whole Sheet With Macros

Jan 4, 2010

I have been assigned the task of creating our new integrated time and leave sheet in Excel 2007, previously we had 2 sheets, one for times and one for leave.

The problem I have is that I need to protect the authorisaton columns therre are 2 one for AM and one for PM, so that only Managers can authorise leave by inputting a password and then initialing the leave.

What I then need to do a the end of each month is for the manager to be able to click a Button with a Macro which will then lock the whole worksheet so that employees cannot change their times after the manager has checked the sheet.

I can lock the authorisation columns and password protect but I have to enable protection on the sheet, when I do this I cannot then figure out a way of running a macro which will then protect the whole sheet and assign a password to it so it cannot be changed after being checked and signed off.

I have tried to create a macro (button) to remove the protection on the 2 columns and then reapply protection to the whole sheet with another button but to no avail.....

If anyone has any suggestions I would be eternaly greatful.

Passwords on the sheet for the different buttons are abc or cobra.

You can download my Spreadsheet here.

Filtering Columns When Adjacent Columns Are Blank

Apr 15, 2013

I import a text file that displays outstanding parts orders. The order Number column only displays one number even if there are multiple parts ordered I.E. so if three parts are on order then the order number is displayed once with the other two underneath blank. I would like to filter the column that displays the amount of stock that is available so that even if the row has no stock but the other two have all three rows are displayed that reference the order number.

Locking Text In Cells But Not The Ability To Change Colour Of Cells With Mouse Click

Locking text in cells but not the ability to change colour of cells

******** width="234" height="60" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0"
marginheight="0" vspace="0" hspace="0" allowtransparency="true" scrolling="no" id="aswift_0" name="aswift_0" style="left: 0px; position: absolute; top: 0px;">*********>

I have a spreadsheet where I can change the colour of a cell by clicking the mouse, I also have text in many of the cells.

What I need to do is protect (lock) the text so that no one can change the text in any of the cells, but I still want to be able to change the colour of the cells by clicking the mouse in that cell.

Excel 2010 :: Hiding And Locking Columns And Formulas Together Via Passwords?

Mar 8, 2014

Is there a way in Excel 2010 that the administrator of a excel document can not only hide some columns but lock the columns by some kind of password so it remains hidden? I know user can hide/unhide columns but can some columns be hiddens and locked with passwords?

Secondly can formulas like IF and vlookups statements be hidden and locked with some kind of password?

In maybe via VBA or by some other means, is this possible?

The end user should only be able to type and select certain cells only.

Protecting Worksheet But Only Cells

Jul 21, 2006

I have a spreadsheet with about 2000 lines of vba code. My application needs to be protected so users don't mess themselves up; however, I really only needs the contents of cells to be protected. I have many macros that run, and in order to do this I need to unprotect and re-protect the worksheets. My problem is this: when I re-protect the worksheets, everything is locked up. I would like to allow users to change column widths, hide and un-hide rows, etc. I can't find the parameters needed to do this more controlled type of locking. Is there a list somewhere of all the parameters that can be passed to the Protect method? Here is my current subroutine:

Sub ProtectSheets()
Dim ws As Worksheet
For Each ws In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
ws.Protect Password:="password"
End Sub

Filtering Columns

May 13, 2009

I have an excel with the following information

A1 - Is a dropdown which will have names of the systems (EAI,Mediation,CDF

Row2 will be header which will have following data

B2 - Project Id
C2 - System ID
D2 - Project name
E2 - Project Phase
F2 - Status
from g2 to GN2 there are about 60 resources names entered

From C3 to F3 the data wil be entered and appropriately a chk mark will be
made to the corresponding resource wroking on that project

Say i have about 10 systems provided as dropdown for entering data in A1
(Ex: EAI, MEdiation, .....)
There are resources working for each system

when i apply filtering on a system name i shoud be able
to show only those resources working for that system and all others should be

Also under the "system" dropdown i will have an option "All", when "All"
option is selected i should be able to see all the data for all the systems.

EX: if i take system "EAI" and if the resources working for eai are there in
AO2 to AX2 then i want the resources from AX2 onwards and before AO2
not to be shown.

If i take a system "Mediation" and if its resources are from Z2 to AI2
then i want resources before Z2 and after AI2 notto be shown.

If "All" option is chosen then i should be able to see the whole sheet
with all the data for all the systems and all resources.

Conditional Locking Of Cells- More Than One Sub?

Aug 19, 2009

I am trying to create a form that has multiple drop downs, which are dependent on answers from other drop-downs. I'm trying to make it super user friendly and have the cells lock, so that the user can tab through only the items that they need.

I have it almost down, but I'm not sure how to do it for multiple cells. The closest I come is one big long if,else statement which runs through the whole thing on every cell change.

I have an example of the spreadsheet attached.
If F1 says "Other", I want H1 to be unlocked
If F2 says "Y", I want F3 and F4 to be unlocked
IF F4 says "Other", I want H4 to be unlocked

Locking All Cells In A Workbook

Feb 4, 2010

I have been having problems protecting my worksheets, using the normal manner, mainly it does not seem to work, So i came up with another idea, but cant seem to work out how to do it.

I have a workbook with about 7 worksheets, this needs to be sent via email to our customers, and on two of the worksheets the customer can enter there comments and then email back the workbook, the problem is that i cant protect the data.

So i was thinking is it possible to use VBA to program a function i can enter in to the toolbar that the user can lock all the cells in the whole workbox except for two columns when they finish entering in data, maybe with a password for locking it and unlocking for the original user so that they can unlock the cells for editing.

I just need help adjusting this code so I can put my password in the code and allow the worksheet to unlock and lock at will by using this password.
