Make Formula Pick Up Filename From A Different Cell...
Feb 9, 2010
I have a formula that looks like this : ='G:STOCKS[1001 Stock.xls]Matl%'!$I$32
There are hundreds of similar formulas, all referencing different cells in the same file. The “1001” bit refers to the date, and next month it will need to say “1002” to pick up the new month's file. I would like to hold the “1002” bit in a cell (say A1), so that at month end, I just change that one cell, and all the formulas will point to the new file, but I’m not sure how to work that into the formula.
I have a file name typed into cell C3. I want the formula in cell C4 (C5,C6,C7......) to include the name of the file typed into cell C3. The formula in cell C5 shows what the content should look like.
I want the users to be able to type the file name in Row 3 (C3,D3,E3.......) and have the formulas below them insert the file name and access the information from the files (yes the files can/will be open when we do this).
I need to to have at least twenty different formulas (rows) referencing specific cells in these files.
The formulas would look like this ='["File name from C3"]Audit Information'!$D$35.
I am hoping it may only be a syntax thing and someone here can "show me the way" I have tried &$C$3& with and without quotations with no luck.
Is there a formula or function that allows me to always select the lowest (not min) actual lowest in a column? For example, I have a formula in A1 and I need it part of it to always reference the bottom of a certain range (i.e. A5.A200).
So one day the lowest would be A7 but a week later it could be A8. I don't want to have to keep changing the formula in A1 to find the lowest value. I will be adding data on a regular basis.
I have a large spreadsheet with many pieces of equipment in it. There are a few piece that I would like to highlight should thier computer license go out of date, or even better 30 days prior. I have a Feild with the Expire dates but it is at the end of the spreadsheet not in plain sight. Is there a way to make my Equipment description column highlight when the date in the other column reaches the current date (or 30 Days before). I have cut and pasted the part of the spreadsheet into a new file to make it easier to read and hid all the none important feilds.
I am looking for a formula that will work with my current formula, and check that cells a1 and b1 contains information. If they do contain info then the original formula should carry on as usual and leave the answer in cell c1. I also need it so when no information has been entered in cells A1 and B1, C1 will be blank instead of containing a zero.
This is the formula I have at the moment: =IF(SUM(A1=0,B1>0),B1-A1,"No Charge?")
I try to make a macro that pastes 'Data'!K4 into 'Data'!L3 and then have that formula functioning in cell 'Sheet1'!A31.
The problem is when I try to make a macro to do this it will always paste the values that were recorded during the macro rather than the unique formula that is created via cell 'Data'!K4 at the time.
Is there any way to have A31 actively using the values that are created with 'Data'!K4? at all times?
I am trying to display the Filename in a cell on my worksheet. However, when I enter the =Cell("filename"), it provides the full path (C:/Documents......Cost Summary.xls) How can I display only the filename without the path?
I want my formula to output a blank cell if the answer is 0. Ex. [B1=IF(A1=0, ???, A1)]. I want B1 = A1 if A1 is not 0. I want B1 to output a blank cell if A1 = 0.
See attached. This is a report that I have to do every month. I cant work out a formula for it. What I need is a formula that will pick out which is the largest Figure of column A,B,C,D for each row and put the corresponding header in column G. i have manually put these in. Would anyone know a formula i could use for this.
I have the following formula =IF(VLOOKUP(F89,'2013 susp 2714035 Reissues'!F:F,1,FALSE)=F89,"yes",FALSE)
That is supposed to look at the tab 2714035 Reissues and find the same dollar amount. The issue Iam having is the dollar amount can be a negative or a positive amount but the formula is only picking up the number if it matches exactly negative to negative or positive to positive. formula to pick up the matching number if its a negative or a positive.
I'm creating a "universal-fluctuating" vendor inventory return worksheet for a auto parts store that consist of one criteria (cores, warranties, or N/R ) and will return one or two results of core cost and/or unit cost. This part of the task I have accomplished by using a drop down list for my criteria and my results will appear in two different columns using a Vlookup table. The problem is due to inventory fluctuating from cores and waranties on a month by month basis, vendor requiremnts differ for the number of units returned, and last make the boss happy on ink and papers supplies :D I was wondering if it is possible loop my code in a given column where it will move my code to the next row untill I reach a grand total?
I have a question with picking out certain word in the column. I am trying to write a formula that would allow me to pick out names that has first 3 alphabetical letters from the columns. The column has a lot of different names, but the one that I would want my automation to pick out is similar to this, C, AR, AA-103, BG-2056, HJE-1100, etc. However, in the same column, I have other words like elevtar, hsvte, lvnrm, etc. that I do not want my formula to pick out.
I am trying to use the formula below to get the filename of the spreadsheet, it seems to work fine but when you open a second sheet the first sheet will pick up the name of the second. =MID(CELL("filename"), FIND("[",CELL("filename"))+1,FIND("]",CELL("filename"))-FIND("[",CELL("filename"))-1). These spreadsheets will then be uploaded to another application and having 2 with the same name could cause issues. Obviously the answer is to only open one at a time, but this is always subject to human error!
I have a folder full of sales reports, all of the files are given a consistant format e.g. 09_wk50. I have a macro that do various calculations in each book. I now need a calculation based on the report date.
I am able to get the file name in the sheet so that I am just left with the value above (09_wk50) but I need to be able to get an actual date from that value.
I need to be able to get the monday of the week given. for the example given i would want the date 13/04/2009 because of week 50 in 2009, the 13th is the Monday.
Text configuration - how can I tell a cell to pick up a phrase from one cell, but if that phrase is equal to one particular phrase, then produce a blank.
I want a macro fill the value which is on the upper cell.
eg:If A1= Code and A2 is blank, A2 should be filled with A1 value which is 'Code'.
In the attached, I want C3,C4,C5 to be filled with 'A' which is in C2,
likewise I want C7,C8 to be filled with 'B' which is in C6 and C11 to be filled with 'C' which is in C10, likewise the data has to be filled in entire C col.
How can I add multiple cells (ranges) to a listbox, and when the user clicks one, it will activate that cell in excell. I thought about have the list box for the text, and a corresponding array that holds the actual range or address, but I cant get it working.
Long version: I have a search feature that, when you type a name, it searches through a column and finds the name. Now if there are multiple matches to your string, I want it to add the full name to a listbox, and have the user pick one from the list to activate.
So basically, if I search for the name "john" but theres multiple people with that name ("john doe", "john smith", & "john mazz"), it would add the three to a list box, I would pick one from the list, and it would activate that cell.
I have everything done except that last part. I have it adding multiple matches to the list box, but I cant figure out an easy way to activate the correct cell when double clicking the item in the list. I could have it search again for the selected full name, but there is likely to be a case where one person is entered twice.
In my attachment, I have a worksheet where I need to pick a rating from a combo box or list (Expert, Leading, Applying, Learning, Under Performing). I will be picking this rating 10 different times on this worksheet and the selections will not be the same in all cases so the definition I need won't always be the same.
I would like to return the definition (definitions are detailed on another worksheet, Data Elements) to the cell to the right.
I've tried IF statements but when I make one selection from the combo box, all the combo boxes select the same thing. I've also tried vlookup but can't figure it out and can't find an explanation in layman's terms.
I have a spreadsheet with my Periods along row 10. e.g. C10: "1", D10: "2", E10 "3", F10: "4", G10: "5" etc. (green on the attached sheet). I have my departments along column B, e.g. B11: "Baked" B12: "Fresh" B13: "Frozen" (yellow on the attached sheet)
what I need and cannot work out is some VBA code that will populate two variables (lets call them Period & Department) when I click on one of the figures. For example if I click on cell: if I click E14: Period would have the contents of cell E10, and Department the contents of cell B14.
if i click G14: Period would have the contents of G10, and Department the contents of cell B14 again. I know how to get the click on the cell to work properly etc, and I have code to slot these variables into that works very nicely, I just can't get this bit to work!!!!
CELL("filename") gives you the name of the current workbook but if you switch to another workbook and then come back, the name has switched to the other workbook. You have to refresh to make the name switch back to that of the workbook you used the formula in.
What alternatives exist, short of writing some VBA, which is an option, to fetching the name of the workbook via a formula and having it remain the name of that workbook when you go away and come back again?
GOAL: Have an Excel file renamed automatically using the contents of a cell in the first sheet. DETAILS: The cell with the new file name is always D8. The cell is blank initially (although it doesn't have to be). OTHER INFO: OS= WIN 7 Excel= 2007 EXAMPLE: If I input "Mike T" into cell D8, the name of the file will be Mike T.xls
