Minimize Workbook On Userform Launch
Oct 24, 2006
Is there a way to minimize Excel when a userform is launched, so just the userform is showing? I've tried using "Application.WindowState = xlMinimized" in the UserForm initialization procedure, but it minimizes both the workbook/application and the UserForm. I can click on the Excel window on the taskbar and just the UserForm will display--which is the goal--but I'm hoping there's a way to do it automatically without needing to click the taskbar icon after it's minimized.

Private Sub OptionButton3_Click()
Call Compare_Map
Exit Sub
End Sub

I want to use the following to launch a userform I created.
Sub showuserform()
Dim ans As Boolean
ans = msgbox("do you want to show the userform?", vbYesno)
If ans = vbYes Then
userform.show
End If
End Sub
The trouble is that if I click yes, nothing happens.

I've found the code below and tweaked to suit my needs but having trouble. Had it working one time. The code below calls a userform when the user double clicks on a cell. The form pops up and is not active/enabled. I cannot select anything on the form until I select a cell on the sheet, then everything on form becomes active/enabled.
Private Sub Worksheet_BeforeDoubleClick(ByVal Target As Range, Cancel As Boolean)
'check cells for desired format to trigger the frmSel_WBS.show routine
'otherwise exit the sub
Dim NumberFormat, DF
NumberFormat = Array("[Blue]General")
For Each DF In NumberFormat
If DF = Target.NumberFormat Then
frmSel_WBS.Show vbModeless
End If
Next
End Sub

I currently have a small userform placed at the bottom right of the screen (with a command button on it) and this opens up on top of excel instances and other applications/windows and it is set so that you can't interact with anything except the userform.
I wanted to minimize the userform and give focus to immediate next window (can be excel or non excel applications) for 10 seconds and then activate/show the userform back again, when the "Button 1" on the userform is clicked.
I tried hiding the userform, but this doesn't give focus to the immediate next window. Below is the code
Private Sub Button_Click()
Me.Hide
PauseApp (10)
Me.Show
End Sub
I could only find answers for adding minimize and maximize buttons to userform.
When the button is clicked, it should perform
Step a - Minimize the userform
Step b - Give focus to the next immediate window behind the userform
Step c - Wait for 10 seconds
Step d - Bring back the userform its to state.

I have tried searching for this code but just cant find (or remember) how i did it before.
I have a regular workbook (which changes name upon start up). In this workbook is a button that opens a linked database of products.
I want this button
1. to open the database C:/Database/db.xls
2. Minimize it
3. Maximize my regular workbook to its original state (this is where I am having the problem because the workbook name constantly changes)

I would like to be able to automatically minimize the Excel 2007 ribbon on opening a particular workbook. My preference is to be able to apply that minimization to certain worksheets only, but if that's not possible then minimizing the ribbons on all sheets in the workbook will be ok.
Will I also need a BeforeClose code as well to reinstate the ribbon so that it is visible when opening subsequent workbooks?

I have a macro-enabled workbook, in sheet1 i have two columns Country and Codes, they are in column C and D respectively. I used vlookup formula in generating the codes of the countries pasted in column C, they are being looked-up in sheet2 in column C and D as well. I already have 100000+ rows in sheet 2 under column C and D that's why the file is now heavy. Is it possible to encode column C and D in sheet 2 but still can be looked-up? or is there any other way to minimize the file size.

What I would like to do is to be able to open a second workbook from a user form, preform some work on it then save and come back to the same place in the original user form.
So in steps:
1 : user clicks command button to open user form
2: user then clicks on command button on userform that opens 2nd workbook via a yes / no message box, but closes userform on 1st workbook (would be ideal if this could stay open, but hidden)
3: user then does work on 2nd workbook,
4: userform on 2nd workbook saves then activates the 1st workbook and reopens the userform
This is where no matter what I try I cant get the command button on the 1st userform to be clicked automatically so the yes / no message box appears.
This is part of the code in the 2nd sheet commandbutton that saves / closes / opens
Code:
Unload Me
ActiveWorkbook.save
Windows("ABC.xlsm").Activate
Sheets("Request Sheet").Activate
Call Sheets("Request Sheet").ForceClickOnBouttonXYZ
Call UserForm1.CommandButton6_Click 'this is where I cant get it to work!!
Windows("xyz.xlsm").Close
ABC is the 1st workbook
xyz is the 2nd workbook
This is the code on the 1st workbook I use to call on the 2nd workbook
Code:
Public Sub ForceClickOnBouttonXYZ() Call CommandButton1_Click End Sub

Edit: Typing the string into the Run command works fine.

strDesktop As String
Set objWsh = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
strDesktop = objWsh.SpecialFolders("Desktop") & "Wildfire 3.0.lnk"
Set objWsh = Nothing

what VBA is required to have a combo box in a userform look up data in a different workbook, then populate that data into the drop down list of that combo box for a user to select.
I have managed to successfully create a vlookup for a combo box in a userform that looks up data in a named range in another worksheet within the same workbook and then populate that data into a field in a worksheet within the same workbook. However, I want to change this so the combo box on a userform (in one workbook) will look up data from a named range in a second workbook without opening the second workbook. At the moment, the code I have that will 'submit' the user selected data from the combo box drop down list works.
The code that has worked so far to vlookup data for the combo box from a worksheet within the same workbook is:
Code:
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()
Dim pName As Range
Dim ws As WorksheetSet ws = Worksheets("vlookupsheet")
For Each pName In ws.Range("ProjectName")
With Me.cboProjectName
.AddItem pName.Value
End WithNext pName
Me.cboProjectName.SetFocus
End Sub
Do I need specify the file path of the second workbook that will contain the data for the combo box as well as the name of the worksheet and named range in that second workbook?

I have a lot of shortcuts to movies for my 5th grade students which won't work. I can launch direct file names but not shortcuts from within excel I can click on a cell to launch a direct file like this = "C:Program FilesOfficexpOffice10winword.exe" /n "c:mode.doc" but if C:modeSC.doc" is a desktop shortcut then it opens winword but not the document.
I get " document name or path is not valid" from within winword. But if I go to drive C and click on the shortcut, it opens winword and the ModeSC.doc which is a 1 KB shortcut.

I have vba code that opens Outlook so I can run code to send emails...
Application.ActivateMicrosoftApp (xlMicrosoftMail)
But I don't want it to be visible, I want it to be minimized.
If I try:
Set olApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
olApp.WindowState = xlMinimized
I get an error "Object doesn't support this property or method" referring to:
olApp.WindowState = xlMinimized
I've tried:
Set olApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
followed later with code to send emails,
Set objol = New Outlook.Application
Set objmail = objol.createitem(olmailitem)
With objmail
.To = EMTo
.cc = EMCC
.Subject = EMSubject
.Body = EMBody
.NoAging = True
.Attachments.Add EMFile
.Send
End With
But I get an error "You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation" referring to:
Set objmail = objol.createitem(olmailitem)
Because of the way our network is designed, the only code that works to send emails is:
Application.ActivateMicrosoftApp (xlMicrosoftMail)
Set objol = New Outlook.Application
Set objmail = objol.createitem(olmailitem)
With objmail
.To = EMTo
.cc = EMCC
.Subject = EMSubject
.Body = EMBody
.NoAging = True
.Attachments.Add EMFile
.Send
End With
but Outlook remains open the whole time the emails are being sent until it's closed by code later on.
Is there a way to minimize outlook AND use the code above?

Is it possible to launch Excel at a specified time without someone pressing a button?
I'm working on a network which has disabled Scheduled Tasks. The purpose of this request is to launch Excel in the early hours of the day so that a macro would run and update the data from a data source. The macro works brilliantly, but I without anyone in the office at 2am to open Excel, I need to find a way to launch it automatically.
Also, I don't have permissions to install programs or add-ins from the Internet. It doesn't leave me with many options, but I'm just wondering if there's a trick that has so far eluded me.

I want to know if it is possible to launch a blank notepad from an existing excel spreadsheet and then type relevant "history notes" into notepad and save.
I am creating a manual spreadsheet for the company I am working for which is being used for Maintenance Planning / Scheduling and creating of work orders. Once the work order has been raised and the job has been completed it then needs to be closed out on the spreadsheet and any relevant notes entered in. I am hoping to be able to have a link that opens notepad by the click of a button within the spreadsheet and it allows the user to record any notes against that work order and save. These notes can then viewed by future users.

I'm trying to resolve, and all my clues are leading me to the impression that using VBA is the only way to accomplish my task.
I am trying to integrate the ability to launch a program with command line arguments by clicking on a cell. More specifically, I'm trying to launch vncviewer, and point it to an IP address.
the command line would look like:
c:program filesultravncvncviewer.exe 192.168.XXX.XXX
The only text the cells will have in them is the IP address to the machine with which I would like to initiate a connection, and I'm hoping theres a way to automatically pull that information from the cell and run it in the command. Is there a way to do this? Better yet, is there a relatively simple way to do this?

prompt minimize itself but still be present in
case they decide to toggle that on/off?
