No Access To The Features In The Ribbon

View 9 RepliesI noticed that my custom "Close without Saving" button stopped working. I checked the VBA editor and my Personal workbook was missing and all of my personal macros were gone. I restarted excel, same issue. Rebooted my machine and they re-appeared. Not sure how what happened, but at least the Personal workbook was not lost. I'm working off my company's network, so often I get the "Personal Workbook is locked for editing" message. I usually select the open as read-only file and go about my merry way. Perhaps I clicked something different on accident without paying attention.
Anyway, I digress, the custom macro button that I had in my ribbon still didn't work, so I removed it and tried again in both the ribbon and the quick access toolbar with no success. The Macro executes if I execute it manually or via the keyboard shortcut, but the ribbon/quick access toolbar buttons won't work. Frustrating, because I use this quite often. I've even tried writing a quick "dummy" macro to see if it was some sort of code error related to the macro, but got the same result. My "Close without saving" code is below (super basic code).
Sub Close_Without_Saving()'' Close_Without_Saving Macro' Closes active workbook without saving changes.'' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+q' ActiveWorkbook.Close (False)End Sub
I'm using a Chart, Column, Clustered Cylinder. In the Select Data Source window I pick a (series) to edit.
The series value is, =Sheet1!$L$2:$L$5
This creates a column that contains the sum of values in specified range L2:L5 How do I add to this Series an additional limit that would be depicted as a "max budget" line that would appear as a line above the column?
=Sheet1!$L$2:$L$5+Sheet1!$O$2:$O$5
Where as I want ...Sheet1!$O$2:$O$5 to be the line above the column depicting max budget.
I am trying to use protection in order to prevent users from only inserting a row or a column, sort, and autofilter. I don't think Userform is a good choice for this situation. I've tried using the following
Sub MyMacro()
ActiveSheet. Unprotect
'YOUR CODE
ActiveSheet.Protect
End Sub
The problem I'm running into is, when I protect the sheet from the main screen (allowing for everything but those listed above), then run MyMacro, the things that were previously allowed under protection are no longer allowed. Indeed, upon re-protection it prevents the user from accessing anything other then the very basics (selecting cells). How can I make it so that the protection works the same as before the macro?
I am using the following code to restrict what users are able to do with a Pivot Table I have designed:
Sub Workbook_Open()
Dim pf As PivotField
With ActiveSheet.PivotTables(1)
.EnableWizard = False
.EnableDrilldown = False
.EnableFieldList = False
.EnableFieldDialog = False
.PivotCache.EnableRefresh = False
For Each pf In .PivotFields
With pf
.DragToPage = False
.DragToRow = False
.DragToColumn = False
.DragToData = False
.DragToHide = False
End With
Next pf
End With
End Sub
However, I am getting a Run-time error with the 'For Each pf In .PivotFields' section after it has looped through all the Fields in my Pivot Table.
We have a file that needs to be updated monthly by running macros, but the macros are being blocked by protection. I would like to put some code at the start of the macro that unlocks all sheets and then at the end locks them up again. Actually, all I really need is a macro to do just that unlock all sheets, and then another one that locks them back up again as we will need to lock and unlock at various times and it is annoying to have to do it by sheet ....
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am Generating Excel file with Macro using my asp.net (c#) application.
I am able to generate Excel file in development environment, but in Production it gives following error:
"Programmatic access to Visual Basic Project is not trusted Line: Microsoft Office Excel"
I did googling a bit and found that I have to open Excel file physically make few security related changes in macro as below.
1. Open the Office application in question. On the Tools menu, click Macro, and then click Security to open the Macro Security dialog box.
2. On the Trusted Sources tab, click to select the Trust access to Visual Basic Project check box to turn on access.
3. Click OK to apply the setting. You may need to restart the application for the code to run properly if you automate from a Component Object Model (COM) add-in or template.
Can i do above changes at runtime (using some code)?
I have a macro that I found somewhere on the net to look within a folder and list all the files of a certain file extension.
The macro to do this is in the attached example and is called 'Get_File_Names_Within_Dir_ext'.
I have created a basic userform outline, 'UF1' for the user to define:
Select File Extension
Select Folder to Search
Destination Sheet
I just don't have any idea how to sync the two.
If you type 'exe' into 'TB1_File_Extension' of 'UF1' the macro should search for '*.exe' files within the specified folder.
The search folder 'RefEdit1' box should open a windows explorer box (or some such) so that the user can select the directory in which to search for the previously specified file extension.
'TB2_Destination_Sheet' is a text box for the user to type the sheet within the workbook in which to list the files found within the specified directory.
'CB1_Find_Files' should activate the macro to find any files for the specified criteria.
There is also a Button 'Find File Types' in Sheet1 of the file which should activate the userform 'UF1'.
I used FIND (ctrl+F) in excel to find what I want to look in excel but it's very annoying that once it finds the cell I have to click on that cell. Is there a way to toggle using the keypad between 'Find and Replace' and the worksheet.
example: once it locates the cell, I want to use the keyboard to jump into that cell, instead of using the mouse, then jump back to the 'Find and Replace' window again using the keypad.
I have an Excel file ( named "Classes.xsl"), that has a worksheet (named "RawData") that is layed out something like:
Name Dept Class
John 0547 Class 1
Jane 0368 Class 1
Jim 0368 Class 2
Sue 1235 Class 2
I am trying to get an Access-Like report without utilizing Access. Is there a way to generate a report similar to below using Excel as the data source (could be mail merge, perhaps a macro with a printout) I am not sure which way to try and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction...and possibly provide an example.
Class EnrollmentClass 1John 0547
Jane 0368Class 2Jim 0368
Sue 1235

I have opened a dodge workbook on which disabled the Feld List button in the pivot table contextual tab Options>Show>Field List.
I found the following line of code which confirms the command as being disabled by returning a FALSE message.

Now I need the code tore-enable this command.
I am looking for the settings if possible that will add to a custom tab in the ribbon.
What I have is an add-in that creates a custom tab in the excel ribbon. I save it as an add-in and activate it in excel options so it is available for all workbooks.
Now I have a callback in there that runs a macro that opens a workbook, this workbook also has custom UI that I want additional callbacks added to the same custom tab created in the add-in.
Is this possible?
I have a template sheet where the only thing the user need to do is fill in all the appropriate cells and the click the button that says SAVE to save the file to the right folder and file name.
I want to Grey out the ribbon completely so that user can even change the font or any thing else for that matter. The sheet and workbook is protected. Need a way to stop any unwanted tinkering.
Someone sent me a spreadsheet that made my ribbon and everything disappear. All that remains is the grid field and the title bar.

In a program that I'm intimately familiar with (Excel) I seem to find it annoying. ...or at least in my limited usage thus far it's been that way. Takes up a lot of screen real estate and seems to be a bit of a cluttered jumbled mess of text and graphics.
For programs I use less frequently (Publisher) it seems to be helpful. I can sorta right-click my way through lots of things and get stuff done. That's kinda nice.
For a program I use moderately (Word) it's sort of a toss-up. I can't find stuff easily, but once I figure it out, it seems like it's a more efficient design.
I imported an Excel spreadsheet from a computer running an older version of Excel to my computer with Excel 2007. I opened up the specially designed add-ins tab and started a new worksheet which I then saved. When the programme was closed and re-opened, the add-ins tab was missing so I could not continue working on my new file.
Is this a compatibility issue between the versions of Excel (yet everything worked fine when freshly opened)? Following the help instructions I could not recover the bespoke add-in tab.
how I get this back each time I open the file? It is important I get the bespoke add-ins as they are designed to input runners taking part in a race and working out the results afterwards in various categories.
I have an excel tool I am adapting to 2010 from 2003. It imports another tool which has been created elsewhere in my company and it is protected so I cannot alter it. This tool that I cannot change creates its own custom toolbar the "old fashioned" way so it dumps into the add-in tab on the ribbon. My tool opens this corporate tool and changes some items on the toolbar (enters values in a text box) and then imports data from it. However in run-time the custom toolbar never appears. Is there a way to refresh the ribbon in run-time after opening the file so I can then access the toolbar items?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to restore some important functionality in Excel 2007 which has become disabled for a spreadsheet which I saved in different file formats.
I opened an Excel 2003 file with Excel 2007 and used 'Save As' into different formats (default, macro-enabled, binary) to see the resulting file size.
A number of Ribbon items are now greyed out for this file, including,
- Insert - Tables, Illustrations, charts, etc.
- Styles - conditional formatting and Format as table,
- Formula Auditing
- Data - just about all of them
- View - some of the Window items.
Also, I cannot resize or move a button on a worksheet.
Attempts to 'Save As' into the Excel 2003 format cause Excel 2007 to hang.
What caused so many features to become disabled?
How do I restore them?
I'm making a task sheet for my employees and would like them to see the option in the ribbon automatically that allows you to add a picture. I have made my custom ribbon with the "picture" command right under the Home tab. I want to email my workbook as an attachment to my employees and have that picture button right there in their ribbon when they open up the attachment. Is this possible?

Is there a need to install an add in / or activate an add in?
The macro's are on the ribbon on the tab VIEW.
I expect to find the buttons on that place also.
I have the code that accompanies the attached spreadsheet model that locks the copy, paste, cut, double click and so on, with the right mouse button and shortcut keys, however, the toolbar excel these functions still remain active. How well I block access to the toolbar.

Is it true that I have to enable macro and choose to trust access to the VBA project object model in order to create and run macros? It seems there is some security risk associated with making the workbook as macro enabled. What makes the commands run from the ribbon security free? Is it true that we can work around the macro security concern by creating a command button to the ribbon and run the macro from the command button? If yes, how come I could not find any discussion of creating the command buttons? I am using Excel 2007.

Is there any way to remove the ribbon from view completely. I am aware they allow us to minimize it and I can do that through VBA or Macros however I don't want the people doing the entry to have any access to the ribbon at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a pretty developed add-in I've created for use at work. It has 3 full custom ribbon tabs worth of buttons and boxes and other features that run all of the macros in the project. Everyone loves it. The only problem is, its only used when we work with customer statement excel files. When using Excel for other tasks it is annoying to have 3 extra, essentially useless tabs taking up space on the ribbon.
Is it possible to create a button and stick it on, say the Data tab, that will "Start" the add-in and make the 3 custom tabs visible? Ideally there would also be a button to "Close" the add-in or hide the extra tabs until they're needed as well, but how to customize for my specific needs.
I have working macro but I need to share it with other people.
I have saved it as a xlam file.
I would like to make modification to my vba code or Excel settings such that the add-in become available as a click-able button on the Ribbon.
