Protecting Workbooks But Allow Use Of Colour Pallet
Feb 14, 2009
i am currently working with protected workbooks but i need to allow the use of autofilters and the colour pallet to allow colour changes/fill colour. Currently i am using the following code to allow the autofilter:
Protecting and unprotecting a key wookbook is becoming tedious!
I want to unprotect a workbook, work on it and when it comes time to close it I want the protection to automatically kick in upon closure rather than having to re-enter and confirm the password again (and again).
So, We are using Excel 2002 & Excel 2007 and for some reason all of the workbooks that we have open decide to randomly change the fill colours of nearly all the cells. The only reason this is an issue is that a lot of my work envolves me sending reports to clients and from a business perspective this does not look professional at all.
To add to this, once the cells have changed colour, the original colour is no longer available to select.
I need to do is be able insert a bunch of pallet references (manually, you will see a tab called 'Pallet Check' on the workbook attached) and then click a button that will check to make sure that those pallet numbers have been entered onto that workbook on one of the sheets from sheet1 to sheet100
If they are all ok I want it to return a value 'Pallet Reference Verified' in the column to the right of that pallet reference (column B) if it doesnt find that pallet then to return a value of 'Not Found'
I would also like to know if it finds any duplicates and if it does then return the names of the sheets that the ref is duplicated on (something like..... sheet3; sheet87) in column C for that ref i.e. pallet ref 'R6 10' has been entered so it will come back as being verified BUT it is also on another sheet which is bad so I want to know that it has been entered twice.
My pallet lost color-coding - if I hover over each little scare it displays the names for the colors and if I click on them they color the cells with the right colors, but the palette itself lost the visual display of colors except for 8 colors: black, blue, red, magenta, yellow, cyan, and white.
I use color-coding of cells a lot and I find it difficult to work without visual clues. At least the hover-support allows me to get the work done, but with difficulty.
A column of cells can be 1o different shades of green according to their value (achieved by using conditional formatting.) I want to arrange that at a certain time all the cells of a part of the row of a formatted cell are the same colour.
So I have a macro that colors the selected cells in a certain color. Now im looking for a code that will switch that color every 7th cell, the cells will only be selected horizontally. For example:
if the selected range is 10 cells, 7 of them should be in one color and 3 of the should be in another. But if the selected range is 15 cells the first 7 should have one color and the next 7 should have another and then the last one should have the first color again, and so on..
I'm creating a worksheet which tracks pupils progress in our school. down the left there is a column to put in the level they came into our school on - eg 1C or 3B etc.. to the right of the level is a colour coded row which shows Pink, Yellow and Green - if the pupil makes it into the green part of their level by the time they leave then they are on target.
Basically I have a column of cells which use a data validation list which is linked to another sheet with a list of levels. What I want to happen is when I select the level - it fills the row to the right with the correct colours.. I've attached a picture to show you what i'm trying to do.
Reason being is - we might have 6 kids on L3, and 1 on L1 so the number of rows needed for each level changes - at the moment I'm having to copy and paste - which although is easy enough, it is a bit tedious when you have a whole bunch of pupils to put on the grid.
I can't find the option in imageshack to use a thumbnail
Is there a way to just protect just a single cell, in order to lock & hide a formula within that cell, without having to password protect the whole worksheet?
I am trying to protect all sheets on a Workbook Close event.
I don't want the user to even be able to Select the Loked cells so I set it up that way through formating of cells.
This is what I have tried:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean) Dim sh As Worksheet For Each sh In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets sh.Protect Password:="P@ssword", DrawingObjects:=True, Contents:=True, Scenarios:=True ActiveSheet.EnableSelection = xlUnlockedCells ' sh.Protect Password:="P@ssword" Next sh End Sub I even tried the commented out line in that postion instead of where it is now.
It does protect but still allows selection of locked cells.
I have a spreadsheet that everyone in my department uses. My boss has asked me to protect certain columns so that only I can edit them but leave others so that the rest of the depratment can use those.
I have tried locking the ones I am to use and unlocking the ones the others can use then protecting the document. This works well enough as far as it goes, however, it is combersome having to unprotect then reprotect it every time I need to work on it. Also, that method makes the drop down lists that we are using for easy sorting no longer function.
I have a very large workbook - there are only five sheets of this workbook that should be viewed by anyone. What I would like to do and just can't seem to find a solution is...
I would like to set the workbook so that when opening I use a password which will give me full access to anything in the workbook - upon read only, a user would be able to open the entire workbook without a password - but only view it's contents - not be able to do any adjustments.
I have locked cells which I do not want anyone to adjust the formulas to, then protected the sheet - this works, however, because there are so many sheets, it becomes very tedious to unlock and lock sheets to work in them.
I have a Sheet with some Macro Buttons for the boss to use. How can I protect the sheet from any Data Entry changes, but still allow the Buttons to be used?
I tried a few scenarios and in all, the Buttons can't be used.
I have a work sheet with formulars on column A,B,E and F,(from row 19-119) Column C and D are for inputing data. How do I protect the the columns with formulars at the same time be able to input in column c and D.When I try using protect worksheet it protects all including the one for imputing data..
I have a workbook and i have spent time protecting all the formula cells and allowing user to only be able to select unlocked cells (so they can quickly tab to where they need to input info).
I have lots of codes running and always use Activesheet=unprotect If i am modifying protected cells and then at the end of the code i put back the activesheet=protect.
HOWEVER
When i transfer this book to another machine or to someone else to run it on their machine - ALL of my protection GOES OUT THE WINDOW
Also - is there a way to hide or protect all my code so that users cannot modify it?
If so - how do i get it back to modify state when i want to edit it?
I'm trying to use the Tools|VBA Project Properties dialog box to stop folks from unhiding an xlveryhidden sheet, but even though I check the "lock" checkbox and input passwords in the password and the password verify boxes, Visual Basic fails to stop me from selecting the sheet in question from an Alt-F11 spawned VBA, and editing away.
Could there be something that will not show the macros and also make it impossible to edit them (but ofcourse let me have access when I need to change soem thing, password may be? )
Having to talk about password, let me tell you that, I did try and put a password inside the VBA but it didnt seem to make any diff uzzled:
I have some database in excel worksheet, also I have an userform with a button that opening another excel file. When I press the button and opening a new workbook I want to protect my database from seeing. How I do it (code)?
