I'm trying to create a user-defined function, but the function needs to know what cell it has been placed in. I want to use this cell reference to get some other offset values. I can easily find out offset values based on the ActiveCell, but not for those offset values based on where the UDF is actually placed, which could be almost anywhere on the worksheet.
View 5 RepliesI have been looking around have this much code from this site, modified. What I am trying to do is calculate numbers by a position with cells D through K having numeric values. I have 'hardcoded' the cells (D2, E2, etc in the code below), but in reality I only want the current row (so if the formula is on the 2nd row, I want D2, if it is on the 3rd row, I want D3).
My problem is obviously the formula isn't working because I am not correctly tying back to the spreadsheet (Positioncalc.xls). When I put the formula in the spreadsheet it works, but in my script I get 0 everytime.
My Script:

So, when I put =Position(A2,True) I expect to see the formula results of those cells calculated based on the position (QB, HB, etc with their unique formulas).
My next challenge after this is to highlight certain cells based on the Position. So if A2 = QB, I want cell D2 boldface and Red, etc. I have seen some scripts on colors and such here, so I might be able to figure it out.
I am performing a lookup using the populare user defined function nlookup, which does not take a lookuparray argument to find lookup values. But I only want to return lookup values that fall into a certain array. To accomplish this, I figured out that I need a way to specify a condition of the type "if cell address of lookup value falls within range"
It should be possible if I find a way to return the cell address of the nlookup value, but as nlookup is not limited by a lookuparray argument, so I was not able to use the address/index/match that come up in similar questions.
I am plotting a chart using data from custom functions. On occasion, the formulas return erratic values (due to the underlying data) which I wish to exclude from the chart. If the function does not pick up a value in the code, by default it returns a zero.I would like when this happens to have my function return nothing instead of a value - and I mean absolutely nothing, not a blank string. in this way, the chart line will totally ignore this point.

But i want to make it easy for the user to be able to change the colour the function counts, so i thought i could ask them to colour the cell in which the function is written.

As I type in text into Excel often I see number signs instead of the text. Baffling - I have tried switching the format to wrap etc - nothing works.
Can anyone help - See attached file. The short solution is to retype the text - but this occurs alot and I am not sure why. Really appreciate your help.
I understand the specification of a Function procedure does not provide for it to change the contents of cells. However, I have the need/preference to be able to change cell data by using a custom function (instead of a Sub) because of its ease of use and execution of multiple what-if scenarios - displayed jointly.
Is there a way around this specification/limitation - any way? Are there different techniques (standard or non-standard) to achieve thisr goal?
I have a sheet with several entries. I want to find a way to have the user go to a specific cell instantly. What I thought I'd try was a combobox that when I click on a name in the combobox. It will make the matching name from the list the active cell.

How would you write a custom function that you could plug in a cell that would do the following.
If the value in the cell is greater than 0, traverse up that column to clear the values until it reaches the cell in that column that has been colored orange.
I am trying to return a TRUE or FALSE based on a date in a cell.
for example:
if cell A1 = 07/11/2009
I want A2 to show TRUE or FALSE if A1 is 14 days or more behind todays date.
I have tried stuff like:
=IF(A1=TODAY()-14,"True","False")
but it just always says false. EDIT: I have just noticed that if I change the date in A1 to exactly 14 days behind todays, it returns TRUE. So, it does work. Do I need to add a GREATER THAN in there?

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor example if I were to take the data in cells d3($358), d4($321), d5($130), d6($82) and skip a cell to now make the same data into cells d3, d5, d7, d9. Next, the data in cells f3, f4, f5, f6 would be merge into the blank cells of d4, d6, d8, d10.
The final result would look like column B. I have over two years of sales data in two separate columns that I need to merged into one column. Is there easier way without a simple cut and paste one cell at a time as this would take an enormous amount of time to complete? I’m not that good with VBA codes so a formula works good, but if VBA is the way to go then tell how to enter it on my worksheet.

Imagine i have 2 columns: Open and Close, both of these got numbers like
1 ---- 2
3 ---- 1
4 ---- 10
and so on. I had to make a function which checks if some number is in between any of those Open and Close numbers and count how many, for example: im searching for number 1.3, so according to previously drawn table i would get answer of 2, because 2 is in between 1----2 and 3-----1, i achieved this by a simple function:

this generated an additional column with TRUE and FALSE values which i counted with:
=COUNTIF(Table1[T/F],TRUE)
and got the answer.
so now then preparations are ready i need to make a function which would for example if the number i was searching was in 10th and 45th rows find the MAX/MIN values of Close column between those rows(hope i made my self clear)
this is how i was hoping to do that : first of all make a new array of all cell addresses from "Close" column which were "TRUE" from the first function i wrote and when do w/e i like with those cell addresses in other functions.

I have created a custom Function in excel. I would like to create a custom button so I can run this funtion with a Click of a button unstead of typing it in or clicking on the insert function button. I am very proficient at Excel/VBA and have a question about custom/user-defined functions that may be a little more advanced. I understand how to write custom functions and access them through the user-defined functions menu, but I would like to be able to include my function in an add-in that users could simply add, and then access the function via the 'Fx' box at the top of Excel, like they would any other built-in function, instead of having to go to the user-defined functions menu. I guess what I am looking for is how to add 'built-in' functions and not user-defined ones. I just want the user to start typing '=customFunction(' and have the parameters pop-up in tool-tip form, like any Excel built-in function would.

I want to return a 0-100% grade depending on where within that -55% to 55% range a sales reps growth for a month falls. View 1 Replies View RelatedAssume you have a rectangular range. Say A1:M18. There are values in some random cells (any number of cells) within the range. The rest of cells are blank. In cell M19 (ie cell below the bottom right corner of the range), I need a excel function that returns the nearest (ie physical location) non blank cell value. I have searched the internet for weeks. The closest formula is the following (see below) but it is flawed as it returns zero if there are values in rows below the row of the nearest cell with non blank...and also zero if there is value in a column greater than the column of the nearest cell with non blank.
Closest formula so far:
INDEX(A1:M18,LARGE(IF(ISBLANK(A1:M18),"",ROW(A1:M18)),1)-ROW(A1:M18)+1,LARGE(IF(ISBLANK(A1:M18),"",COLUMN(A1:M18)),1)-COLUMN(A1:M18)+1).
And the function should be relative not absolute as the range can be extended..but the location of the formula remain same relative to the array size. (ie. always at below the right bottom cell).
NOTE: Ignore the special case where two non blank cells are the nearest. That will not happen.
I have a calendar I have developed that highlights the current date and opens by default to the current month. Each worksheet is a seperate month. The current date highlighting is written with a public macro and the opening to current month is a private macro. The problem comes when this workbook is shared and the other users have to agree to accept my macro because of security. I would like to bypass that requirement and just have the workbook stand alone without the permission.
