Splitting Screen Within Workbook To See Two Worksheets Simultaneously
Jan 18, 2006
I am working on a document at work with multiple worksheets. It would be most useful for me to be able to split the screen so that I can work on both worksheets at the same time without (a) having to switch back and forth, (b) modifying the workbook so that everything is on one sheet, or (c) opening the file twice and sizing the windows to my screen.
My goal is to be able to see the information on each sheet while modifying one sheet or the other.

I use a two monitor setup driven from a Radeon 9550 graphics card, but the problem I have occurs on a single monitor as well. When I open multiple workbooks or worksheets I can only view one at a time the other remains embedded behind the open window. Nothing I know of will let me view both at the same time.
If there are two open worksheets full size on the screen and I minimize one they both minimize. If I decide to close one workbook/sheet down all open workbooks/sheets close down as well. Can I view two workbooks at the same time? Can I close one down while keeping one open?

I am installing over 1000 phones for a business. I was provided a list created in excel (not by me) of all of the phones with their locations and phone numbers. Upon successful installation I simply search the spreadsheet for the phone number and place an "X" in the completed column. I do know how to filter the spreadsheet to print only those with an "X" that I submit weekly to show progress.
Now I am given a separate list of specific phones that someone wants completed by a certain date. I have copied this list to " Sheet 2" of the spread sheet. Is there anyway I can have exel mark and "X" in the completed column on Sheet 2 when I update Sheet 1? Can I update the list on sheet 2 with those that are already "X"ed as complete on Sheet 1?

See the file attached (there are the same columns on all sheets, apart from on "BLANK"). The "Sort" sheets 1-4 contain rows that are repeated various times on the "Raw data" sheets. The "Sort" sheets are mutually exclusive; there is no repetition of rows among them. When I make an entry into an "ACTION" or "REASON" cell on any of the "Sort" sheets, I want that entry to be replicated on all identical rows throughout the "Raw data" sheets. Matching of the rows is to be via Criteria 1 and 2. I would preferably like the replication to be as I make the entries.
I am currently looking into writing a private sub for each "Source" worksheet. This would activate when a change was made to that sheet's ACTION and/or REASON cells, group that sheet with the three "Raw data" ones and change the relevant cells/rows (assuming that finding the relevant cells/rows within this function is possible). Or the macro could just loop through the rows of the three "Raw data" sheets and copy IF, but this would be long. Does this sound like the way forward or am I barking up the wrong tree? Should I be looking into VLOOKUP or pivot tables? Or is my data structured badly in the workbook from the outset? How straightforward will this macro be? Has anyone any pointers, magic routines in their libraries or links to relevant info?

I have a workbook with 20 worksheets. All tabs are identical in format and layout. On B3, I have a drop down list (this may be irrelevant, but it's to select one month of the year) using simple data validation. Now, I initially had a formula in B3 equal to B3 of the first sheet, so that if I changed the month in the first sheet it will change on all sheets, it will do it the first time without touching the drop down lists on the subsequent sheets.
However, if I changed the date on any other sheet other than the first sheet, it will erase my formula and replace with the value I selected from the drop down list.
Can you guys please help me to device a way (code or formula; open to anything) where if I select, say September, on ANY sheet, it will change all the others to that selection (September) as well?
PS: B3 is actually a merged set of cell merging cells B3:D3. I know this is important because code and merged cell don't really mix.

My Workbook contains several UserForms in which employees will be entering hours and activities on a daily basis. In the UserForm, they select their department and enter hours for each specific type of work/activity that shows up for that department in the userform. They click the submit button and all the data (date, name, department, type of work and hours) is added to a database table in another sheet, which in turn feeds a number of reports.
I need to be able to have anywhere from 20 to 100+ employees enter their hours on a daily basis, many of them at the same time, all from different locations (within the network of the client's system), using the same UserForms.
We've experimented with Google Drive, but that seems not to be the solution. It kind of works, but is not secure (it installs a copy of the entire workbook on the users system and then synchs the data back to the server upon "save") and way too cumbersome. I've heard of SharePoint, but not every client has that installed (and frankly I don't know how it works).

I have a workbook with multiple worksheets, for instance Red, Blue, Green,Orange, etc. I want to split off everything except Red & Blue into separate workbooks.
I want each of the workbooks name to be saved as the value in a specific cell (stays the same for each book), say "A2". I also want to be able to choose the path of where to save these, all worksheets going to the same path user chooses on their comp, but each user may choose differently.
And lastly to keep these actions hidden from the screen when excel copying the worksheets.

I have 2 large XLS sheets that need to be split into seperate sheets.
The first is only 5 columns wide but the amount of rows changes day to day.
The second is a maximum of 7 columns wide and again the amount of rows will change.
I'm hoping for a VBA code to be able to do both on seperate books.
The A Column has the name of the company, and this can include (/,&) that will need to be removed, the names can also exceed 31 characters.
I would like to seperate the sheets by the company name and have the name appear as the sheet name.
Also the formatting from the master sheet to be copied to the resulting sheets, with a header row.
I have included the data for the larger of the two workbooks. data.jpg I have to pull the smaller report each day and the larger report each week.

I am attempting to split my workbook and save the sheets as individual files. Simple enough? yes. The issue I am running into is that when the sheets export I want their filename to be pulled from the value of a cell on a master control sheet. While I am pretty sure these can be done separately, not sure how to really do them as a whole within a one click button. Also an issue I am running into is that when I click my export button on my control page, the sheets that are saved have lost some of the page formatting.
SHEET1 is my control sheet
Here is the code that I was using to export the sheets.

I have just run into the situation where some users, magically and overnight , have widescreen monitors. This means the screen designs for 4:3 monitors show way too much on 16:9 monitors. I would like to put a control button on the opening page that gives them a choice of zoom, which usually seems to be 100% and 135%.
I'm thinking probably an IF sequence to parse their response and execute the appropriate zoom. But how can I make it effective for all the sheets in a workbook?

I have a great bit of code for a spreadsheet I'm working on by a board regular called Norie;
The code is;
Code:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
If ActiveSheet.Name "ThankYou" Then
Worksheets("ThankYou").Visible = xlSheetVisible
Application.Goto Worksheets("ThankYou").Range("A1"), True
Cancel = True
UserForm1.Show
[code]....
When I open the workbook it shows for about 1 second another sheet in the workbook rather than just instantly showing the "START" tab.
Is there any way to get over this to make this code 100% perfect?
I just really would love upon opening this workbook for the sheet that 1st comes into view to be the START SCREEN TAB, without any flash preview of another sheet.

I've tried the F1 Help screens and searched the board with nothing that applys to my problem popping up.
I have several Workbooks that I use regularly. Without making any changes that I know of, recently several of the workbooks began opening too long and a little off to the right.
I can grab the top header and move them back to the left but I have no visible bottom slider bar and the side slider bar when at the lowest point that I can pull it down to is about 1000 rows from the last entry. I have other Workbooks that are working perfectly. Its like my Monitor needs to be two inches taller.
I have checked View settings -- Format Settings -- Resizing and all other things that I can think of, all to no avail.
Using Control G and trying to mentally keep track of my current last line number to enter a new row is really getting Old.

I've developed a complex dictator application, which pretty much takes over the entire Application object. During beta testing, I've had some user complaints that, once my program is started, they can't access their existing workbooks.
In order to remedy this situation, I'm trying to construct a front-loader workbook, which will automatically determine whether or not to start a new instance (application) of Excel. If the user already has a workbook open (i.e. "MiscBook.xls"), the front-loader will start a new application; otherwise, it will just use the existing application.
My "Auto_Open" code for the front-loader workbook is shown below:
Sub Auto_Open()
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application
Dim wbkTemp As Workbook, wbkApp As Workbook
Dim lCount As Long
Dim vTemp As Variant
The code works fine, but I have a minor gripe: every time a new application is created ("Else" in the "If-Else" above), the screen doesn't appear to refresh. In other words, I get a new window (instance of Excel), but none of my custom-defined buttons and menus show up. If I hover my mouse over their intended locations, they "appear" one at a time.
I'm just wondering - is there something I can do to prevent this behavior, or "refresh" the new application window upon startup? I'm essentially looking for something like "Userform.Repaint", only for a brand-new Excel Application object.

First the splash screen and then the one sheet.

Workbooks.Open "V:allaBeredningKontrollsystemetKontrollsystemet.xls", ReadOnly:=True

Workbooks("Kontrollsystemet.xls").Close SaveChanges:=False

Application.ScreenUpdating = True

I have a workbook that has worksheets that serve as data input pages for the user.
I have control boxes created by the forms toolbar.
I created a splash screen that is to be launched when the file is opened.
Instead, often the last sheet that the user was on when they last saved the file (usually but not always the worksheet called "Main Menu") is seen first.
I understand that not all the sheets can be hidden - that one must be unhidden.
So I created a sheet called "Background" that is a solid color with no gridelines.
Objective:
When the file is opened, I want the "Background" sheet to be seen first and then the splash screen to be initiated.
Now - when the user opens the file, the Main Menu worksheet is seen for a few seconds (or whatever the last sheet was on before it was last saved), then it disappears and the solid background screen is shown with the splash screen. When the splash screen ends, the "Background" sheet disappears.
Here is the code that I have in the workbook
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Dim wks As Worksheet
On Error Resume Next
For Each wks In ThisWorkbook
If wks.Name "Background" Then
wks.Visible = False
End If
Next wks
End Sub
What has to be changed so that the first sheet that is seen upon opening the file is the "Background"; then the splash screen happens; then it returns to the Main Menu sheet?

I am running a script that populates about 70 or so workbooks based on information from the database. Naturally this script is quite slow but what seems to take the most time is opening and closing workbooks. Is there a way to "hide" the workbook opening/closing operation on the screen? I have tried using the
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
this sped the code up but you still see the workbooks opening on the screen.

Now, this code isn't working I suspect because the Copy and PasteSpecial Functions don't work the way I wish to.

Is it possible to do more than one search simultaneously. Let me elaborate. I have a data of 40,000 students in DATA A and searches each student in DATA B which is also around 40,000 students. Instead of doing a For Next Statement, searching one student at a time, is it possible for it to search all the students simulatenosly because searching 40,000 students in a data base of 40,000 students takes FOREVER?

For example:

10 _
_ 1
_ 6
_ 4
Should sort to:
_ 1
_ 4
5 _
_ 6
10 _
