Jul 16, 2007

I have a useform that loads up with two buttons and I waat to force the user to chose one of the buttons. However, I have noticed that the user can just press the cross in the top right corner of the form to close the window and therefore not press either button.

Form Or ActiveX Button To Stop / Start Code Temporarily?

May 12, 2014

I would like to know the easiest way to temporarily keep a worksheet code from running while I am editing, then turn it back on when I am done. I was thinking a button with these commands(?)>

Application.ScreenUpdating = False

Application.EnableEvents = True

but I don't know which button to use, or if I would need a button for each.

Close/Open Userforms On Mouse Click

Aug 23, 2006

I have a menu structure in place so when a user clicks a button, it opens a Userform as a menu. The only problem i have is that if the user doesnt want to use that menu, and clicks on the spreadsheet, it doesnt dissapear.

Is there any VBA code that anyone knows that when a user clicks on the spreadsheet, or even just clicks their mouse anywhere (ie other menus at the top, spreadsheet, desktop) like a mouseout code on HTML so the menu will dissapear?

Stop Calculation On Workbook Close

Dec 1, 2006

I have a report whose calculation time I've reduced greatly by turning off automatic calculation and including in the worksheet code directions to only calculate the impacted range. BUT, it still takes a lot of time to calculate on close, when I turn automatic calculation back on. I'm afraid my users will think their machines have crashed. Does anyone know of a way so that on close, the workbook does not calculate, even though Calculation is turned back on to automatic?

Private Sub Workbook_Activate()
With Application
.Calculation = xlManual
.MaxChange = 0.001
.CalculateBeforeSave = False
End With
End Sub

Private Sub Workbook_Deactivate()
With Application
.Calculation = xlAutomatic
.MaxChange = 0.001
End With
End Sub

I managed to figure out the code for enabling the button any one box is checked:

Form Button On Spreadsheet - Identifying Which Row The Button Is On

Jul 23, 2014

I am imagining a spreadsheet with the equivalent of an info button in each cell of column A. The idea is the user clicks the button to open a User Form containing additional info about the entitity represented by values on that row.

E.g., Row 1 is labels, row 2 is all about Bob, 3 is about Jane, 4 is about Freddy. If the user clicks the info button on row 3 then a user form opens up and displays additonal info about Jane.

I am wondering if there is a way for VB to identify which row the clicked button was on without having to write individual code for each button telling VB which row the button was on.

I am hoping there is some form button property I can reference or interrogate which will give me a cell address; a button.position property or similar. This will obviously save me a lot of coding if VB can dynamically determine which row is being interrogated as there will be a couple of hundred of these to start with, potentially thousands. (I realise Access is a better solution for database interrogation, but I have to work with excel at present).

Ultimately, the user form that the button calls up will have a list box on it and I want the list box to default to the entity on that row, and allow the user to browse the other entities if they want to.

If there isn't a solution for this I will just have a single info button for the users to click that opens the user form and then they can select the entity from a list box. But I would like to offer the "intelligent display" option but don't relish coding the equivalent of several hundred "You clicked button four hundred and seventy six, default to info card for bert".

Open Only The User Form ... Or Close Everything

Mar 22, 2006

Assume that the workbook Book1.xls opens a user form named myUserForm.

I'm trying to show only the user form on the desktop when I open Book1.xls, with Book1.xls minimized on the Taskbar.

And , if the Cancel button on the form is clicked, then unload the form and close Book1.xls.

That simple!

In ThisWorkbook, I have the event:

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
ActiveWindow.WindowState = xlMinimized
ShowTheForm
End Sub
On the Form, I have the Cancel button:

Private Sub btnCancel_Click()
Unload Me
ThisWorkbook.Close True
End Sub

The above procedure shows the form, with Microsoft Excel blank window in the background, and produces a small bar at the bottom left of the screen for Book1.xls
Click the Cancel button, and both the Form and Book1.xls close, but the blank Excel window remain open !

I suppose I would not be able to edit this version of Book1.xls, but that is fine for now!

Before Close Not Working On Closing Workbook

Sep 29, 2009

I am hoping someone can help. I am new to writing macros and have the following in the this workbook page. When opening the macro does exactly what I want and expect, but does not do the "before close" part. If I select the macro in editor and run it, it does just what I want, so dont understand what is going wrong. Do I have to put in some kind of prompt, or manually run this before close - preferably I would like it to just run.

secondly, I have password protected the workbook, but have to put the password in the macro, is there any way of making this invisible to anyone who then reads the macro....

Stop Users From Saving A Form

Jul 16, 2008

I placed the code below in the ThisWorkbook section of a Service Request macro. The intention was to block users of saving the input they had just entered into the blank template. However, some continue to do it, despite the code. Obviously it is not as tight as I expected.

Does anyone know a better, tighter method, short of killing the offending user (which I am tempted to do, believe me!)?

Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
Dim LoginName As String
LoginName = Environ("username")
If LoginName "chuckdrago" Then
If SaveAsUI = True Then
Cancel = True
MsgBox "Saving this form is not allowed! Print a Copy"
Else
ThisWorkbook.Saved = True
Cancel = True
MsgBox "Saving this form is not allowed! Print a Copy"
End If
End If
End Sub

Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
ThisWorkbook.Saved = True

Disable Red X But Keep Enable File - Close Working

I added in the red code as i wanted to disable the red X as well to ensure that users will always close the EXCEL worksheet via a Macro button.

The Macro will save the spreadsheet and close the worksheet and the Private sub should restore the toolbars.

Cascaded Open / Close / Save Not Working

Aug 3, 2009

I have a 'Summary' workbook which collates values from a series of 'sub-workbooks', (and can also update values in those sub workbooks).
the subworkbooks are setup so that when they are saved they also copy certain values out to another 'backup' file.
So there are 2 possible routes that the files will be used in:

1) SubWorkbook opened directly
- User opens SubWorkbook and makes some changes.
- User closes the SubWorkbook saving changes, or clicks the save button. The BeforeSave event opens the "restore" workbook, copies over the key values from the subworkbook, then saves & closes the "restore" workbook.

2) SubWorkbook opened remotely
- User / Admin opens the "Summary" workbook and changes an option.
- The summary workbook opens a subworkbook and makes changes, then saves it. The subworkbook should (as before), then open the restore workbook and save the key values etc.

The problem is in the second scenario the 'restore' workbook doesn't get opened.

I have created a set of 3 workbooks to illustrate the problem here.
Book1.xls = Summary workbook
Book2.xls = Subworkbook
Book3.xls = Restore workbook.

If you open book2 and then save it the 'BeforeSave' event will cause it to open book3 and write the output of 'Now()' to the next free row of book3-columnA, before then closing and saving book3,......

Macro Stop Working With No Error

Jul 24, 2006

I have wrote a simple macro/ function that used to work before I decided to improve it. When I run the macro, I can step F8 until the before last line in the following code

Function bla() As Boolean
Set rCell = Cells(1, 1)
If rCell.Value <> "" Then
x = rCell.Value * 0.02 'Works
rCell.Value = rCell.Value - x 'Doesn't work
End If
bla = False
End Function

Excel does stop running the macro, but it doesn't show any error so I don't know what to fix.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Create new Excel document
2. Type any number in the very first cell
3. Open VBA, add module and copy above function
4. Type in another cell "=bla()"

Auto Close Workbook After Showing Form For 30 Seconds

Mar 24, 2007

I have the following code that displays a form at a user defined time and if the user does not press "Stop" then the workbook saves and closes. The user can press stop then the workbook remains open.

Here is what I have where:
Admin_Auto_Shutdown = Yes or No
Admin_Auto_Shutdown_Time = 3:34pm or user defined time (This doesn't seem to work??)

'Auto Shutdown CloseandSave
If UCase(wb.Worksheets("Admin"). Range("Admin_Auto_Shutdown").Value) = "YES" Then
Application .OnTime TimeValue("Admin_Auto_Shutdown_Time"), "AutoShutdown"
End If

Sub AutoShutdown()

Application.OnTime TimeValue("Admin_Auto_Shutdown_Time"), "AutoShutdown"

Auto_Shutdown_Form.Show

End Sub

Now, my question is about a timer that I can show on a form. When the form is displayed I would like to give the user 30 seconds to press stop (and keep the workbook open) or to press proceed and save and close or to not do anything and the workbook would close and save when the timer reaches zero.

Code for user form which is missing most everything...

Private Sub Halt_Click()
'If user whats to continue without closing
Auto_Shutdown_Form.Hide
End Sub

Private Sub Proceed_Click()
'If user whats to save and close

Auto_Shutdown_Form.Hide

How do I add a timer to this code where it will run this at the end of the timer?

Auto_Shutdown_Form.Hide

Application.DisplayAlerts = False
With ThisWorkbook
.Saved = True
.Close
End With
