View 3 RepliesI learnt that " " & can combine the text and figure. However, when it comes to a negative numbers, i dont know how to maneouver it. Eg, Cell A1 is USD(50,000.00) and the comment in Cell B1 is Cost is USD(50,000.00). So the function in B1 = "Cost is "& what to put here?

I have a workbook that is being used by users with both "," and "." as decimal separator. This is working all fine, except for one cell, where I need the number output to be displayed with two decimals. See formula below:
="Open at " & TEXT(+OHL!J$13+OHL!H$15,"0.00") & " and Go"
This example does not work with "," decimal settings.
Is there any different way to force two decimals in a text string, except for TEXT (where the format given in itself limits the cross decimal separator functionality)?
I am trying to find a code that will allow me to Save Rows to a txt file with cell separator ?
I have put together this from other peoples work online and now all i need to work out is how to add a cell separator like a comer?
I have numbers in cell A1 (say 3545852) as a sum of a data range. I want to display it like this "Rs. 35,45,852.00 Cr."
How can i do this. I used text function like this
="Rs. " & text(A1,"0,00.00") & " Cr."
But it displays "Rs. 3545852.00 Cr."
I want thousand separator also.
I've got a spreadsheet with several rows and the numbers within those rows are totalled up at the bottom. Is there a way where i can highlight the cell within the spreadsheet and it takes it off the accumulative total at the bottom? or something similar to this effect? I just don't want to have to remove figures from this spreadsheet and highlighting will be a good way of seeing what has been done
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is not related to macro - it's an excel question regarding wrapped-around text within a cell (i.e.: text brought onto next line by <Alt>+<Enter>)...
SayI have the following in a cell :
Car<Alt>+<Enter>
Truck<Alt>+<Enter>
Van
and say I want to add a figure (in this example 1A) to the first part of the cell and then another to the second line of wrapped text and so on. How can I split the cell (or lookup the first 'wrapped' line) so that I can then perform changes (using formulas with '&' to combine etc or whatever) so that in the end cell have the following:
Car 1A<Alt>+<Enter>
Truck 2C<Alt>+<Enter>
Van 1B
I’m looking for a formula that will give me a figure against the name in column A (name) while looking picking out a specific word within the column B, say "alarm"
So it reads
Alan Ingram 1
David walker 3
And so on...
See attached. This is a report that I have to do every month. I cant work out a formula for it. What I need is a formula that will pick out which is the largest Figure of column A,B,C,D for each row and put the corresponding header in column G. i have manually put these in. Would anyone know a formula i could use for this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Column A to show the Project I am working on and Columns B-M show the months of the year with the figures under certain months. In Column N I just want to show where a figure falls under a certain month, I want Column N to show the month (header) that particular figure is under e.g. N2 should return a value of "March", N3 ro return a value "June" and N4 to return a value "April/September".

I am trying to write a formula that shows the best grade for each each student and the subject in which
that grade was achieved.
In a previous post i was shown how to identify the highest grade
MAX(IF(A$3:A$34=A7,C$3:C$34))
I hit CTRL, SHIFT & ENTER to activate the formula - Result in column E
However, I also want to identify the subject in which they scored their highest grade in column F
I have two problems
1. I don't know how to write a formula that brings in the subject based on the grade for each student
2. I don't know how to write a formula in case there is a tie (see DAVID L)
On my indows XP box, when I type a number into an Excel spreadsheet and it is in "General" format, the numbers appears like this (examples):
1234567
or this:
7.125
or this:
8.1
I want them to look just like that except for the first one, which I want to have the thousands separator:
1,234,567
I don't want to use a number format because
Excel makes you set a specific number of decimal places...I want the decimal places to float depending on how many decimal places there are in the entered number (just like the "General" format does). So basically, I want a "General" format, but with thousands separators (commas).
I tried using something like ###,###.### but that leaves a decimal place at the end of each integer (i.e. "123,456.") which is also not acceptable.
we in india to any number put comma as stated below
ie 15,13,10,565.00
fifteen crores thirteen lacs ten thousand five hundred sixty five only.
00,00,00,000.00
but excel we have only thousand separator.it separates the number after every thousand.
can it possible in excel to formate number as per our style.
00,00,00,000.00
I have made some macros for importing data from a txt fileand to sort the data into a sheet ready to be exported into another txt file. I have made VBA to work with "." as decimal separtor within the spreadsheet.
But, when I run the macro to export the data into a txt file (I have used the macros from this site [URL] .....) it automatically changes all "." into ","
But why?!?
I need the txt file to load data into another program, and this program need the use of "." as decimal separator - and not ",".
I'm using an European windows system.
I have data which needs to be formatted with a thousand separator as below.
400.00
1,000.00

How can I do this without it displaying as below
,400.00
I do not want it reflected in the case of hundreds.

I have a SAP application that outputs a field of data from a specific query. One column, the date, is produced in the format 18.02.2009. Is there any excel 'trickery' that can convert this into a standard british date format i.e. 18/02/2009 & then allow me to sort the entire data field by ascending date order?

Excel allows only thousand's separator.
The other option is to make the changes in the regional settings... which will
affect all other application.
I have a petty cash sheet set up:
A1 - Date
B1 - Receipt No.
C1 - DEPT CODE
D1 - NOMINAL CODE
E1 - Reason
F1 - Amount
G1 - Running total (I've put a little formula in there to keep the balance - clever eh!)
So - this is fine - except I have to add the total amount for each department/nominal code each month.
What I'm doing at the moment is copying and pasting, sorting the sheet by:
Department
Nominal Code
Date
Then doing a manual add up of each and adding it to my month end report.
I'm really not an expert at all - but I thought there must be an easier way for me to do it. After inputting the petty cash there MUST be a way that it can automatically calculate it?
Or is this going to be a difficult thing to do requiring expertise in pivot tables etc?
I have tried searching for it but I must not be entering the correct criteria.

I have a command button (code listed below) which is 1/2 working. I have a column of PID's (numbers) sorted in ascending order which includes multiple rows with the same PID. When the command is executed, I want to insert a new row after the last matched PID (this part of the code works fine),

Insert a new row for the non-existent PID but in the correct sorted location (this is what I can not seem to figure out how to get to work).

I need to figure out how to do an if for the over 30,60,90 past due. Here the logic I need to figure out:
in the Over 30 column, the logic of the statement is as follows: If the difference between today's date and the date of the invoice is greater than 30 and equal to or less than 60, the amount goes into this column.(over 30 E3) To get the amount(the ammount in C3) into the Current column, the difference between the two dates must be less than 30. To get into the over 90 column, the difference between the two dates must be greater than 90. You can figure out the over sixty column. And this needs to be copied to the remaining colums
Today’s date: =TODAY() Shop Invoice Date Invoice Amount Current Over 30 Over 60 Over 90 Ludwig's Landromat =TODAY()-72 $432.78 Willie's Washing =TODAY()-107 $565.11 Wash It Here =TODAY()-80 $308.47 Spiffy Wash and Dry =TODAY()-58 $725.37 Water Soap & Hot Air =TODAY()-30 $427.95 Wash it & Dry it =TODAY()-90 $603.91 Acme Wash & Dry =TODAY()-60 $332.35 Totals
I have been building a tracker to track benefit payments for child benefits and DLA so I know where I stand and what has been paid.
The problem... its limited and basic an I have to do most things manually, even when I have cell formulas to do some of the legwork.
I stumbled across the term MATCH and SEARCH and I was curious on how to use them for my needs, I was trying to use the LOOKUP set of tools.
My problem...
Benefit rates are set between two date periods, all payment periods are 28 days apart (...but could change to every 7 days) which means that sometimes payments are due 3 weeks of one rate, 1 week of another, the reverse of that or 50:50 depending on the cycle.
A
B
C
[Code]....
The problem should be very evident and especially when I adjust the dates to match what payment dates I finally end up with.
The result of the look up needs to be calculated at the frequency in A14 to B14, A15 to B15 (for example) at the appropriate rate found in D:D when searched for based on the dates in A14 to B14 ... ... etc.
I tried using MATCH to get a match to a date falling between 30/12/2013 and 4/4/2014, I tried this...
=SEARCH(A15,MATCH(B15,A4:F8,1),A15)
which returned #N/A
